Grey'ed out "No Wi-fi"

I'm having an issue with the wi-fi settings. It is greyed out and I am unable to click it to change the settings. When I go to Settings> General> About- Wi-Fi Address: N/A. I tried to restart and restore it but didn't seem to fix it. I also updated the firmware which also didn't fix it. Is there program available to fix this? I have the Ipod Touch 1st gen. My warranty expired, can I still get it repaired?

-Luvlabs
The problem is that I am unable to click on the wifi settings. Its greyed and says No Wifi. There's no slider to turn it on or off, or the > arrow. I'm going to try to update the firmware to 2.2 and see if it fixes the problem.
-Jason L
I tried resetting the network settings, full reset, and changing the firmware. Nothing seemed to fix the problem and my warrenty is already expired when I checked the site, is it still possible to ask for repairs?

  • Unable to send a document (office) via the share icon - the share via email choice is grey'd out

HI, only since this week... I have been unable to "Share" any document/excel sheet/ANY FORMAT document by email.
My only choice is to attach the document to a new email.
    I have Macbook Pro OS X 10.8.2
I use the Apple Mail client...
It was working last week and now - the options have been grey'd out
I can "share" from Safari - strangely.
    Please help

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take the action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Grey'd out folders in building new workbook

I've created an 'orders' EUL against a snowflake style schema. Thus i have tables
    Orders -< OrderLines
    OrderDate -< Orders
    Product -< OrderLines
Note that this is not a star schema, and that when you want both product and orderdate in the workbook you'd have to join orderdate to orders to orderline to product.
I see some wierd behaviour in the wizard. when I add order create date to the selection, everything except orders is grey'd out... including orderlines which is a child of orders! Am I missing some EUL setup? I should be able to select sum(units) from orderlines and group it by orderdate.
Does Discoverer mandate/strongly encourage a Star Schema design?

    Brian:
If your joins are set up properly in the EUL, then selecting any column from the 'Orders' table should show enable you to also select from the OrderLines folder. Selecting from the OrderLines folder would then enable you to select from the 'Product' folder.
One of Discoverer's strengths is that it can adapt to any schema, OLTP or Star.
You may want to go back and look at the following: 1, Check your join definitions between the folders. 2, Try creating a 'complex' folder and check that you can select items from all three source folders. The basic steps are to a)create a new folder and give it a name b) drag items in from the Orders folder, c) drag items in from the Lines folder, and d) drag items in from the Products table. It's that easy.
Reconnect from the user edition, and you should be able to run the wizard against the new folder.

  • Reset Sync History Grey'd out...

In an effort to cure the iCal error...
"Calendars could not be synced due to inconsistent data. Confirm your computers data is valid then reset calendars on MobileMe in System Preferences."
..I decided to try resetting my sync history in iSync but when I do (iSync > Preferences) both the check box next to "Enable sync on this computer" and the "Reset Sync History" button are grey'd out.
Any idea what could be causing this?

Try turning off the syncing in the preferences of the programs that use it first. Then go back to ISync preferences and see if the check box is active

  • Why would iPhoto be grey'd out when I try to download pictures to Shutterfly from my MacBook?

I can't seem to access photo's saved to iPhoto to download to an external site.  It is simply grey'd out; can't select.

The order of consumption is usually, video, pics, music, docs.
If you have a great deal of photos on you internal drive and have them on an external storage drive, then you can delete them from your internal, that would free up space, same for videos, they are both space hogs. I regularly put my photos to an external drive, just keep my internal with as much free space on it. It runs faster and less stressful on the drive.
If you are having these error messages then you most certainly need to get stuff off, overloading can kill a drive.
As a general rule try to keep the internal below 50% for better performance.

  • Grey'd or part-grey'd out photos

When I transfer my photos from my digital SLR camera on to iPhoto via the SD card slot located on my macbook pro I find a few of the photos either part grey'd out or totally grey'd out.  I can select them and go into editing but it shows like the photo is there with a chunk of it (or all) grey.  I can crop out the grey but hoping there might be a soloution to this problem.
When you look at the images on the SD card you can clearly see the full image to be uploaded.  If I try to upload it again it puts the same grey pattern on it as before.
I have had this problem for a while now, it's always been the same computer and camera, with random images.
Please see the image as an example of the part-grey'd out picture.  If looking at the images on the SD card it shows it grey'd out, but the preview of the image in iPhoto is totally clear.
This bother with the photo only starts to occur when I try to connect the SD card to the macbook pro.  Before then I can view the image clearly on the camera.
Please help as I'm not sure how to stop this from happening, and scared that I end up missing really nice photos because of this problem.
    Thanks,
    Kat

Same problem? Then same information is needed to help.
it looks like either your card or your card reader slot are having problems.
When did you last reformat your card in the camera? Id try to backup the images from the card and reformat it.
Have you tried a different card, if it has the same problem?
have you tried to read the card with a different card reader or connecting the camera directly?
Have you access to a different camera, to check, if cards from another camera are having the same problem?
Also what version of iPhoto and of the OS?

  • Sharing grey'd out in Workgroup Mgr, terminal way to renable sharepoints?

    Y'all:
After performing some controller card resets on one of our Xserve RAIDs last nite, the lovely Workgroup Manager has the 'Sharing' grey'd out and unable to configure. Then after a half-hour of general troubleshooting, and an hour on the phone w/ Apple premium... they say it's time for a rebuild.
The Apple rep believes that the reason this may have happened was that we had root disabled in NetInfo (something we've had for quite sometime). He said that doing so (which is not the default, however it IS the default in Mac OS X workstation) is a bad thing on the file server for unspecified reasons.
    So...
    - anyone have any experiences/suggestions on how to troubleshoot bringing back the Sharing button?
    - or, anyone know how thru the terminal to enable shares?
    - and/or anyone care to comment on why root should not be disabled on OS X Server?
    Cheers,
    J.

    many many Macs

To enable shares through the terminal do
    sharing -a /SomePath/ShareThisDirectory
More info in Apple's Command Line Administration manual, available from http://www.apple.com/server/documentation/ and also from typing 'man sharing' at the server's terminal, which is where the example came from.

  • Mail icon has grey-d out life preserver over it

I have a grey-d out image over the Mail icon on the toolbar. It looks like a life preserver with an Apple logo in the center. It appeared about the same time my e-mail flat stopped working. Anyone have an idea of what's up or how to correct it?
    G4 Notebook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The problem seems to have three parts.
    1) Still cannot get or send mail and I get asked for password every time I check for new mail. Even though I put in my known password, it comes back and asks again.
    2) I now have to 'force quit' Mail to get out of it completely.
    3) The fan on the computer runs almost constantly (may or may not be part of the same issue but it all started at the same time).

    See:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

I Noticed that some of my app icons randomly appear to grey / shade out, I don't know why they do this or what to do to get them back to normal.  I've tried all sorts and the only thing I can get to work is to restart the phone.

Try downloading and installing any free app. That usually kicks things back to life.

  • I-phone wifi grey-ed out.

I-phone wifi grey-ed out. Is there a way to restore it? I've been getting it ever since i updated to ios6.1. Some of my apps can't activate too. Can i get some help with it?

Check Settings/General/About and Wi-Fi Address. If it says "N/A" or "000.0000.000" your iPhone needs repairs, and I hope you are in warrenty.
Backup the iPhone and restore it if that does not show up in about. If a full restore does not fix the issue, your iPhone needs repairs.
Grey Wi-Fi is usually indicative of a chip loose in the iPhone or a serious software issue.

  • I've had a problem with syncing itunes, when i sync it dosent sync songs previously deleted it just greys them out, which is great but if i want to add a new video or song from my computer it wont sync it will just grey out and wont play. now all my songs

ive had a problem syncing with itunes recently. when i delete a song on my iphone when i sync with my computer it still syncs but just greys out and is rendered useless. thats great unless i when i want to add new music or videos from my pc to my iphone it wont sync and will just grey out. i looked for solutions and one said that deleteing all your music from the usage in settings would fix it, well now when i sync all of my music is greyed out. ive tried adding all of my songs manually into my ipod instead of syncing entire library and nothing. (also when i select to sync music nothing shows up in the usage bar (normally 3 gigs)  might help) could someone please help?

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.
turning of locator and the push notifications from facebook--they have a lot!

  • ITunes Match and Genius options all greyed (grayed) out under 'Store' menu

I'm using iTunes 10.5.2.11 and have signed up for iTunes Match. - for the last couple of weeks it's been 'working' in so much as it has already scanned my Library and matched/uploaded just under 5000 tunes. I can see these on iPhone/iPad/Apple TV.  I can't say more than that as generally I don't think Match 'works' very well at all, but that's another story!
However....for the last 2 days I can no longer get iTunes to match any recently added content. I've added around 20 CDs and it starts the scan process, but just sits there with the progress bar at around 95% complete with the message "Matching your music with songs in the iTunes store..." The iCloud status of all songs in the library is 'waiting'. They're pretty mainstream titles, so I can't see a problem matching them.
When I look at the main iTunes manu under the 'Store' dropdown, the items Turn off iTunes Match, Update iTunes Match, and Update Genius are all greyed out and there's nothing I can do.
I'm signed in with my normal account, have tried logging out/in and restarting my computer and iTunes but nothing seems to change.
    Any ideas???

I'm using iTunes 10.5.2.11 and have signed up for iTunes Match.  I am having the same issue.  After letting it go all night I am stuck on the "matching your music with songs in the iTunes store" step with 1086 of 1110 songs checked.
Also, this is my situation exactly: "I should have added, the 'problem albums' and some of the artwork (hit and miss as usual) are visible on all my portable devices with all the track listings, but are all greyed out and have no 'cloud' icon next to them. Obviously they won't play"
Dont see why it should matter, but unlike others here, I do have a lot of non-generic music, album riips, etc.  And I have a lot of my own vinyl artwork scanned myself.
    What to do ...?
