Grey scale objects get lighter when Outer Glow assigned to text

I have a grey scale object on one layer and text on another. When I apply an Outer Glow to the text, the grey scale object gets 10% lighter. If I have a 2 page spread and apply an Outer Glow to text on one page, the grey scale objects on both pages get lighter. Is there some way to prevent this or at least an explanation as to why?

Your transparency blend space (probably working cmyk) is different than the grayscale space of the image. Your grayscale image profile is "dot gain 10".

Photos get lighter when I switch from 1.1 RAW to 2.0 RAW

All of my photos get a bit lighter and less saturated when I switch to using the 2.0 RAW decoder. I prefer the 1.1 decoder, except there are fewer options. This is with all default settings. It would be a shame to have to then go and darken and tweak the saturation on every shot.

since the decoder varies for each camera, i think it depends on the camera you are using..i have the same issue with my 5D..images get lighter and less saturated..however images shot with my 40D get darker and more saturated..
for the 5D images though, i do gain more detail in the shadow areas..but for most of my photos that have already been tweaked/adjusted, there's no need for me to go back and reinvent the wheel by tweaking again.

How do you add outer glow effect to text in Elements 12?

I've created a layer in Elements 12 that contains some text. I'd like to add an outer glow effect.
This is what I am doing:
1. Select layer with text
2. Click FX button at bottom of screen
3. Click Styles tab
4. Select Outer Glow from drop down
5. I can see 11 preset option. The only one that works is called 'Fire' and it is not the style I'm looking for. I want a simple outline, but none of the other presets have any effect.
Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Why do objects get bigger when I copy and paste from one Keynote document to another?

I have 2 keynote presentation files open. I select some objects on one slide, apple-C to copy, go over to a blank slide in another file, and apple-V to paste. The item(s) get pasted but are much bigger - they take up way more of the new slide than they did for the old one. What am I missing? Why can't I copy it with the same relative size it used to have?

Chances are that small file used to be a PowerPoint file - PowerPoint deals in inches instead of pixels (which blows my mind).
I would first convert the smaller file to a larger resolution - that should keep most of the scaling intact - and then copy and paste. In my opinion you'll probably have to re-polish your presentation once you've changed the resolution as some things will probably be a bit wonky.

Does an object get cloned when you put it in a Map?

When you call the put method on a Map, does it clone the object you're "putting" in the Map, or does the Map just hold a reference?

Everything is a reference (except the primatives like int, obviously). Java never does any of the nastiness of C++ where it will sometimes copy an object, and sometimes this and sometimes that. Everything except the primatives is a reference, and all method parameters are passed by value. Period.

How get SIMs when out of state for weeks ...

I will be out of state for over a month and if I can locate an iPhone 4 would then transfer the 3GS to my spouse. So how would I go about getting a SIMs for my spouse to use through the remainder of the trip? We will visit six states or more and will not be at any one place very long.

Outer Glow not appearing in Illustrator CS5.1

I am working in a file in Illustrator CS5.1 and when I try to add an Outer Glow effect to text or an object, it does not show up. As I'm applying it with the preview option selected, or even after I apply it.
I also can't seem to get the blur option to work on drop shadows. All drop shadows appear with a hard edge.
The odd part is that when I open a CS4 version of the file, I can see the outer glow on the text and objects, but once I manipulate that file, it dissappears.
Is this some setting I am missing in Illustrator that was previously set default in older program versions????

Why won't my outer glow show up?

I'm working in AI CS4. I have text appearing over a photograph (linked) and I want to put an outer glow around the text to make it easier to read. I was able to accomplish it in ID, but not in Illustrator.
I converted my text to outlines, selected effect > stylize > outer glow; clicked the preview box, set blending mode to screen, color to white, opacity to 75%, blur to 2 inches. I get a status bar for the generation of the Gaussian blur, but when it's done, there's nothing there. Everything is just as it was before. The attributes dialog box tells me there's an outer glow. I wondered if the photo being linked had anything to do with it, so I tried it on text over a colored box, and I had the same results.
I'm a newbie in AI, so if you answer, don't assume I know anything. : )

OK, I did that, and though it didn't solve the problem per se, it did lead to my discovering the problem. One of the modes, I believe it was darken, did have a noticeable, although not desirable, effect. It turns out that setting the blur to 2 inches was the problem; it made the effect so subtle I couldn't see it. I changed it to 0.2 inches, and problem solved. Still, the effect was more subtle than I'd hoped for, but applying a second effect (smaller and with lower opacity) gave me what I was after. So thanks!

Setting Specific Color for Outer Glows?

I'm trying to set up an outer glow around some text (which is black text) and the glow keeps showing up as yellow. I want it to be white (like a cloud). Is there some way to get it to do this? Or am I stuck with yellow (which I don't understand where the yellow is coming from - I have the foreground set to black and the background set to white). I'm using Photoshop Elements 3.0 for Mac...

Why not do something as simple as this:
Add a blank layer above the text layer.
Set the foreground color to white.
Use the Brush tool with a soft brush to paint the glow, the Eraser tool with a soft brush to remove excess glow.
If the glow is too bright lower the layer's Opacity. You can also try applying a Gaussian blur to the glow to soften and expand it a bit.

HP officejet Pro 8000 Can't print when color cart is empty enven when printing in grey scale

I do not use color in my printing. Nonetheless when the printer says my color cartdridge is empty I can not print. I spent a $100 on color cartdridge and never used them. They now show empy and I can't print. Is there a work around or should I just junk this printer. Thanks for your help.

I can understand the frustration when the printer, in your case the Officejet Pro 8000, stops and tells you to change inks you are not even using. I too have fought with this in the past. Unfortunately, there is no "work around" for such an issue, at least that I have been able to find.
Even when printing black text only, for example, a resume, the printer will be using a subtle amount of color as a base. Printhead maintenance also will chip away at the ink, this is to ensure the ink is not drying up within the print system. This information will explain more: Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers.
What I have done in order to get the most out of the printer ink is, set the printer in a black only grey scale mode. This needs to be set in the printing preferences in the print driver installed on the computer.
The inks will still need to be replaced, but it should help for the future.

Is there a way to set an outer glow size to % to crete an object style?

Hi, i have an effect that (an outer glow) and now it's perfect on my graphic that is 1 in X 1.5 in. Except that i will need to have multiple version of this grahic at different sizes, i want to know if there is a way to create an object style taht will make the same effect if i have different graphics at different sizes (without having to import the graphic at the same size and then scale it).

The only way I know to scale an effect with the art in ID is if the art is linked. You could do this with an Illustrator file, for example, or make the art in ID as a separate file, then place it into another document and scale.
