Grey where there should be photo?

Ok I have a Macbook Air (OS X version 10.6.7) and a Canon DIGITAL IXUS 70.
So today I tried to import 59 photos. They all appeared in preview. I then opened iPhoto and clicked import Canon DC, but when the items imported only 5 photos appeared the rest where almost entirely grey with a tiny piece of the photo at an edge. Why has this happened? How do I fix it?
NOTE: I'm not brilliant with computers, I'd really appreciate help, but please try and keep it simple, my understanding is limited!

I would first suspect the video driver. Video drivers can cause weird problems, sometimes affecting only one program.
Things I would do, many of which you may well already have done:
First off, set a system restore point, so you can recover what you do.
Check the video driver, and make sure it's the right one.
Try earlier versions of the driver. The NVIDIA 640GT is not new, and may work better on older drivers. My GTX 550 doesn't like the current drivers, and is significantly faster with earlier ones. You can also go into Device Manager and roll back the driver to previous versions. I don't update video drivers unless there's a reason: to fix a problem, say. New NVIDIA drivers are usually only to support new hardware.
Try removing the driver (in Device Manager, use Uninstall for the video card). That makes Windows default to a basic VGA driver, and then get Windows to update the driver (in device manager, update driver). That will get what Microsoft reckon is the latest driver, which is not generally what NVIDIA think is latest, but may be more stable.
If you've still got the old card, try that (just to check whether it is a video card issue).
Uninstall and reinstall LR.
I know that's the obvious stuff, which you've probably done.
PS - as ssprengel says, check the monitor profile. Definitely the first thing to do!

Can someone help me! I tried restoring deleted photos using time machine...I know I shouldn't have fiddled! When i went back to my i photo albums some of the photos had disappeared and in the space was a grey square with a question mark in. The photo still shows in the top area but i can't put it into a space. I have i photo 08. I don't know if it is an i photo album problem or I have in some way corrupted some of my photos. When i right click on the question mark the photo appears and I can drag back to the top area, it just won't show up in the album. Any suggestions? Thanks

Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

WHat version if iPhoto? Where is your iPhoto library located?

Exporting video from Photoshop CS6 leaves background grey where it should be white.

On export of an animation from Photoshop, the rendered video has a grey background where it should be white. We have tried multiple settings and documents and nothing we've tried works?
Does anyone know what might cause this. Using CS6.

It is the camera. Just take video with the camera.

Imp inserting 0 rows where there should be data... because of BLOB?

Hello. I am trying to import a .dmp file that was handed to me (and which was created with exp I believe, as impdp refuses to process it). I am using imp as follows:
$ imp mteter/*** full=y log=nfam2_imp_1.log file=nfam2_27sep2010.dmp
I think I have created all tablespaces referenced in the file, as well as the appropriate users. However, when many of my tables get their data imported, the result is 0 rows imported. Some do get rows inserted, but from my sampling they all appear to be tables without any BLOB or RAW columns. I suspect this is a clue?
I go look at the .dmp file in VI, and I do see what appears to be at least some data that would be imported into one of the tables (which results in 0 rows). For example, here are the create lines and insert lines from the .dmp file:

Now, I'm not sure what's in the binary data, but it appears there should be at least something (one row or more) being inserted. If not, then why would there be an INSERT INTO in the .dmp file?
In my log output I see this:

Unfortunately, SHOW=Y doesn't give me all the information I seek. For example, it does not show the INSERT INTO statements that will be performed. Instead it shows things like *. . skipping table "ALARM"*. Since I do not save changes to the binary .dmp file, there is no harm. VI has no problem doing searches within the file, and I find it much easier to read than the strangely formatted and line-broken show log.
As for the errors, I have no need to create a number of users who are only referenced in GRANT SELECT statements. Those lines can fail, as far as I can tell, without impacting my import adversely.
Table X gets created successfully.
Whether there are failed grants that follow seems irrelevant. Some INSERT INTOs that follow work, and some don't.
I really wish there were a smart browser that could give me details about the data that is being inserted (attempted). Obviously I am unable to read that as it is in some binary form.

I have completed the tutorial Adobe LR5 Classroom in a Book. I have a MacBook Pro. Every photo that I import from either my hard drive or the tutorial has red where white should be. What in the world am I doing?

I see this immediately when switching from Library to Develop before I do anything to the photo except import it. I would appreciate any tips!

You are seeing red because that is the color of the clipping indicator. It is indicating that the whites are being clipped. You can turn off the clipping indicator by clicking on the little square in the upper right-hand corner of the histogram. Or you can adjust your highlights, whites and exposure until the red disappears. If you see blue on your photos that is indicating that the shadows are being clipped, and that is controlled by the little square in the upper left-hand corner of the histogram.
As a side note, you can activate or deactivate both clipping indicators by simply pressing the J key while in the develop module.

Don't know how long it would take to import that many photos but if you stopped import and ejected the card ther is something else wrong here.
I would Force Quit iPhoto. Then Restart your mac. Then restart iphoto to see if any or all of your photos were imported. If they ae you're good to go. If they were not imported I would try importing fewer photos at a time and see what happens.

Apps (like other synced media like music) are not included in the backup that iTunes makes. Thus, restoring from backup if the apps are not in the iTunes library there are no apps to restore to the iPod.
Redownload the apps into your iTunes library.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
And then restore from backup.
Make sure that in iTunes>Preferences>Devices the box that say "Prevent iPods..." is checked otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer the previous backup (with your app data) might be overwritten.
