Greyed out tabs in .mac sys prefs

First off I am a noob to the support site, i appreciate your patience.
My work laptop (12 in powerbook G4, osx 10.4.11) is unable to sync with my mobile me (.mac) account. When I go to .mac system preferences the sync and advanced tabs do not work. When I click on them they just grey out and do nothing. The idisk tab functions normally.
I have read several other threads that discuss this issue but have not been able to find a resolution.
I would be grateful for any advice or direction.
Mike

I'm not sure if you can UNregister. You would have to cancel your subscription entirely. Let's try some troubleshooting first.
Try this first: Delete the following files from Users/YourName/Library/Preferences:
com.apple.dotmactranslator.plst and dotmacsync.log. Send those to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. Try your System Preferences/.mac If that didn't work, keep reading.
Open iSync, it's in your Applications folder. With iSync open, from the Menu click iSync/Preferences.
At the bottom of the window click the button: Reset iSync History And, make sure all 4 buttons are checked on that window. Quit iSync and reboot your Mac.
If this does not resolve your issue, or if you are unable to open iSync, follow these steps:
In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
Open Terminal.
In the Terminal window that opens, type or paste the following command on a single line:
/System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsyn c.pl full
Press Return.
When the operation is complete, Quit Terminal from the Menu and reboot.
Now try to go to System Preferences/.mac (or MobileMe) and see if you can access the Advanced tab.
*Note MobileMe requires 10.4.11 I realize you indicated you are on the most recent Tiger update, but click the Apple logo top left in your Desktop, click, About This Mac and make absolutely certain that it says: 10.4.11.
And, this is a full subsription, not a 60 day trial???

  • Firewall tab greyed out in System Preferences - have I been hacked?

    Hi,
I am running 10.4.11. In System Preferences, under Sharing, the Firewall tab is greyed out, suggesting my firewall is not running or has been tampered with.
    So I did some poking:
    brendan% sudo ipfw show
02000 844220 100107534 allow ip from any to any via lo*
02010 0 0 deny ip from 127.0.0.0/8 to any in
02020 0 0 deny ip from any to 127.0.0.0/8 in
02030 0 0 deny ip from 224.0.0.0/3 to any in
02040 0 0 deny tcp from any to 224.0.0.0/3 in

20000 0 0 deny log icmp from any to me in icmptypes 8
65535 92033 23684897 allow ip from any to any
Does this look suspicious? I also tried:
    brendan% /usr/libexec/FirewallTool
    Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname(net.inet.tcp.blackhole): 1
    Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname(net.inet.tcp.loginvain): 1
    Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname(net.inet.udp.blackhole): 1
    Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname(net.inet.udp.loginvain): 1
Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname returned: -1
    Firewall Tool: Error opening socket
Firewall Tool: Error 1, Error setting up V4 Firewall!
Firewall Tool: Error opening socket for V6!
Firewall Tool: Error 1, Error setting up V6 Firewall!
Should I be concerned? Am I being paranoid?
If I want to reset and restart my Firewall, how do I do that, if the tab is greyed out in System Preferences?
If I want to load a backup copy of my firewall configuration, what file do I need to copy from my backup disk? There is no /etc/firewall.conf on my system.
    Thanks.

As I recall, if you do any sort ipfw stuff in command line under Tiger, that that made Sharing > Firewall gray out. Try doing a sudo ipfw flush then see if that lets you reconfigure from Sys Prefs.
This article discusses Tiger's default firewall settings with web sharing turned on. That will give you a start in seeing what you should have on. This article may help a little, too, if you are running services or have certain softwares doing different things (gaming, etc.)
Hope this helps some; sorry I can't help you more.

  • I have lost my last window of 61 tabs. Recently Closed Windows is greyed out. How do I restore my window?

RECENTLY CLOSED TABS doesn't offer what I need. And RECENTLY CLOSED WINDOWS is greyed out. Can't I roll back my Firefox to 2 days ago and recover my missing window with 61 tabs?

Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
Your System Details list shows that you have preferences that were used in previous Firefox versions and that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can cleanup the prefs to have a fresh start and delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

  • Issues with Fast User Switching, language pref, greyed out menu options

I have only one user logged in to my Macbook. If i want to select the other user using Fast User Switching and clicking on the username in top right corner of screen, nothing happens. The other user at this time is still logged out.
Incidentally, when i click on the airport symbol, the wireless networks are often greyed out and i can't change networks unless in go into network prefs.
One more thing - i have english and spanish selected as languages in international preferences. I ca not switch back to english at all - by clicking on the flag in the menu bar or by going into sys prefs. When n battery power, power characteristics are also greyed out and unable to select a different profile.
    any help welcome.
    thanks

It sounds like everything in your menu bar is florfed.
Can you log in to the other user account from the login window instead of by fast user switching? If so, does that account have the same problems with the menu bar?

I would try it on a PC and see if you can format it, then put it back on the Mac and try again. If it's not seen on a PC, then there's the strong likelihood that there's a hardware issue; either the bridge/chip set or the HD itself is dying/dead. There's also the small possibility that the cable is faulty, so I'd try a different cable too.

  • I reinstalled my plug-ins into Photoshop CC (2014) on Mac OSX 10.9.4, and they are greyed out in the Filters menu. How do I get them to work? I have tried everything including repairing permissions.

My apologies. Your post jogged my little grey cells to the point that I did a few experiments. In essence, you are right. My plug-ins do not work with 8-bit greyscale images. I like to deliberately shoot B&W and have a Wratten #12 minus-blue filter on the lens--as I used to do with film cameras.
The raw files ( Fujifilm's .RAF) were converted in Adobe CR by checking off "Convert to Grayscale" under the fourth tab. In the future, I will do the B&W conversion in Photoshop with either Nik or Topaz plug-ins.
    Thanks for your input!

  • Can't edit movie artwork (greyed out on Get Info tabs)

All I need to know is how to be able to add artwork to my movies that are being read form an external hard drive. When I press CMD+I for the get info window the option to even select the Artwork tab is greyed out and unavailabe. How do I get it to add artwork that I have found online?
I did not have this problem when itunes was reading the movies from my actual mac computer it only started when I made itunes read the movies from my external drive. I can still edit the artwork for the ones that are not on my external drive yet and are only on my actual mac computer. Why is this happeneing?

When you add a movie to iTunes you have to make sure it makes a copy of the file in the iTunes Media folder.  Otherwise, you can't edit any of the information on the movie or video.
In iTunes 12, go to Edit-->Preferences
In Preferences, go to Advanced and make sure the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library".
Unfortunately, you will now have to re-import the movie files into iTunes using "Add File To Library..." Once imported, the movie will sometimes appear under "Home Movies" instead of "Movies" but if you right click on the movie file it will list a menu item called "Get Info" where you can change the "Options" to "Movie". You should also be able to click the "Add Artwork" button.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can only open 4 tabs in window. Then + button doesn't work, and New Tab greyed-out in menu.

Running Firefox 7.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.7.1.
Number of tabs that can be opened in a single window is limited. Can't currently open more than four. Clicking the "+" button to the right of open tabs does nothing, and the "New Tab" option in the file menu is greyed out.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Why is "more info" greyed out in the About This Mac window?

RE:  MacBook Air running OS X 10.6.8
The More Info... is greyed out in the About This Mac window... how can I ungrey it to get info?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • When I open a new tab, there is always greyed out thumbs of previous webpages on it. Ver 13.0

I just updated FF to v.13.0 and now whenever I open a new tab, I see greyed out thumbs of previous pages I was on instead of a blank screen.
Also, when I browse some sites and click on a link, sometimes I will get a Foxit Reader error message dialog box that I have to click cancel on several times to get rid of it. This happens when I'm NOT running Foxit Reader.

There is an icon with 9 little squares in the top right corner of the about:newtab page that disables or enables the new tab page (toggles pref browser.newtabpage.enabled).

  • Files "greyed" out on Mac OSX

The files in my "files" workspace tab and menu bar above it in Dreamweaver CC are greyed out (they don't show any colours), on my windows 7 computer they do have colour.
I also have problems editing my CSS at times, it will blank out while I am editing, and Dreamweaver's been crashing.
On an additional note I am using SVN as well on my local area network, is it possible that this could be the cause of my frustration, since it only started happening after setting up the SVN?
Thank you, your help will really be appreciated!

  • Camera profile tab suddently greyed out

Went to use LR just now and the camera profile options are greyed out. Anyone else experience this? I'm using 5.7 and OSX 10.10.2
I've never seen this disabled ever.

You're quite correct that both operating systems have problems. To offer my story, I had used Windows exclusively since 1993. I'd wanted a Mac at that time but they were SO much more expensive than the Windows 3.1 machines, and I wanted a larger monitor so was quite proud of my NEC monitor at that time.
I wasn't able to acquire a Mac until 2.5 years ago. I'd planned on switching over entirely to the Mac but I soon discovered the "joys" of having two systems on in front of you at once! I soon began to prefer all of my photo editing work on the Mac, partly because my Windows 7 machine is much older and slower. I can tell you that during this two years my Mac has crashed on three times, when it became unresponsive. I had to restart without saving but when it rebooted (which takes about 20 seconds) everything was fine. My Windows 7 machine, on the other hand, has crashed many times, and had many more problems where it would not boot, or would not shut down and I simply would have to cut the power and try and do a system recovery. I'm a "power user" so I am not uneducated about how to maintain a Windows computer. The Mac just works so much more reliably. I AM NOT an Apple freak. I do not use an iPhone (I prefer Android) and I am not planning on acquiring an Apple Watch. BUT I do know a good operating system and hardware when I see it, and my Mac is one smooth operator.
Sorry for going on about Mac/PC in the wrong forum, but we sort of touched on it.

  • Extensions tab greyed out, yet extension manager indicates the extensions are enabled

Recently downloaded trial version of photoshop cc (wanted my extensions to work before I purchased subscription), I also downloaded extension manager cc.
I installed a particular extension called Kubota Action Dashboard, it is enabled in the extension manager.
For some reason though when I open photoshop cc the extensions tab is greyed out and cannot be clicked on.
Any idea why this is the case? Why is the extension recognised in extension manager but not photoshop itself?
    Thank you for any assistance

To answer my own question, it appears to be an issue with the maker of the extension and not with the adobe products.
Just found this. It's probably the same with other extensions too, the developers just have to catch up.
