Grid Control installation for 11G: is 10g grid required ?
Dear All,
We are currently using the local dbconsole for the monitoring and doing administrative work on our 11g database. My limited experience and observation indicates that 11G does not have its own enterprise Grid control yet and it requires the older 10G grid control ? So if we deploy (albeit successfully 10G grid control), does the enterprise manager control tabs will be very different than the current dbconsole in 11G ?
Thanks.

Thanks.Upgrade Grid Control to 10.2.0.5. Grid Control is an independent product and will not follow the same numbering as Database and App Server/Fusion.
It will provide a lot of extra pages and tabs anyway. And it will format and present the information for Oracle 11g properly to work in it's pages.
Try it and see.

2. I found only 32 bit installers for windows , where as they are using 64 bit OS , is it fine to install 32 bit OEM in a 64 bit OS ?
3. Do they require any separate license for OEM 11g , they have license for oracle 10g database ?
I will really appreciate if someone can help me with these details , thank you.1. My customer is using windows server 2008 with oracle 10g R2 database , can I install OEM 11g R2 to monitor all the 10g databases ?

You don't need any license to use OEM 11g, however you do need licenses to use Management Packs

10g Grid Control Installation/configuration on RAC
Hi Experts,
I am new to RAC and I need your help.
I need to configure 2 node RAC and install/configure Oracle 10g Grid control (High Availability) on HP-UX Itanium servers. Is there any good document or link?
Thank You all in advance
BellHi Bell,
Here is the link for the 10gR5 Grid Control Installation Guide: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/install.102/e10953/toc.htm
Considering the GC repository is a RAC database you will be performing the "+Using an Existing Database+" installation type.
I would highlight the below part of the documentation:
To view a list of certified Oracle Database, see Document ID 412431.1 on My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink).
If you want to use a RAC database, which is configured on a virtual host, as the existing database, then refer to Document ID 561441.1 on My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink).

Regards,
Jozsef

What is the best installlation document to follow for the latest EM Grid control ?The latest Grid Control is available for download at http://download.oracle.com (Scroll down to "Enterprise Management"). There is a README beside the download link. THAT README PROVIDES INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS.
In a nutshell, you install the lowest version (10.2.0.1 or 10.2.0.2, which ever is lower for your Grid Control platform), and then apply the 10.2.0.5 patch according to the readme. That should not normally take more than a day.

Also, can GRID discover PeopleSoft and Siebel application software ?
That can be found using the self-help portal: http://otn.oracle.com -> Products : Enterprise Management (left edge menu). In the 'Product Focus' area, you will notice 'Application Management' which will lead you to the appropriate data sheets and supporting information. -
The Grid control installer has inside an Oracle Server ?
Hi
The Grid control installer has inside an Oracle Server to create the Repository Database or I have to install and Oracle Server before ?
ThanksI have installed both Grid Control and with GC 11g and WebLogic Server and I don't recall creating the respository before the install.
You will have to choose which install you are going to use. Grid Control 11g requires WebLogic Server install.

Grid control pugin for PostgreSql Plugin ?

Can we manage PostgreSQL database with Oracle Grid Control 11g without plugin ?Dominik,
You can't find a plugin for monitoring/managing PostgreSQL because it is not available (yet?). Here you can find all the plugins currently available: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/extensions/index.html

Grid Control Architecture for Very Large Sites: New Article published
A new article on Grid Control was published recently:
Grid Control Architecture for Very Large Sites
http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/havewala-gridcontrol.htmlOliver,
Thanks for the comments. The article is based on practical experience. If one was to recommend a pool of 2 management servers for a large corporate with 1000 servers, what that would mean is that if 1 server was brought down for any maintenance reason (for eg. applying an EM patch), all the EM work load would be on the remaining management server. So it is better to have 3 management servers instead of 2 when the EM system is servicing so many targets. Otherwise, the DBAs would be a tad angry since only 1 remaining managment server would not be able to service them properly during the time of the maintainance fix on the first management server.
The article ends with these words: "You can easily manage hundreds or even *thousands* of targets with such an architecture. The large corporate which had deployed this project scaled easily up to managing 600 to 700 targets with a pool of just three management servers, and the future plan is to manage *2,000 or more* targets which is quite achievable." The 2000 or more is based on the same architecture of 3 managment servers.
So as per the best practice document, 2 management servers would be fine for 1000 servers, although I would still advise 3 servers in practice.
For your case of 200 servers, it depends on the level of monitoring you are planning to do, and the type of database managment activities that
will be done by the DBAs. For eg, if the Dbas are planning on creating standby databases now and then through Grid Control, running backups daily
via Grid Control, cloning databases in Grid Control, patching databases in Grid Control and so on, I would definitely advise a pool of 2 servers
in your case. 2 is always better than 1.

Porus.

Oracle 10g Grid Control Installation On RedHat Advanced Server 3.0
I am planing to install Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 1 (v10.1.0.3)
on RedHat Advanced Server 3.0. The agent I am trying to download is showing version 10.1.0.4.1. I am not sure iof this agent is going to work with (v10.1.0.3). Pl. let me know if someone has performed this installation. Do I need to apply any patch on OEM and agent.
Thanks
RajActually, entirely the other way around, unless you like seeing errors in your OMS.
OMS must be at at least the same patch level as the communicating agents.
10.1.0.3 agent against a 10.1.0.4 OMS = OK
10.1.0.4 agent against a 10.1.0.3 OMS = Bad mojo
Download the 10.1.0.4.1 patchset from Metalink and update your OMS, or stick with the 10.1.0.3 agent if you've no access to metalink. -
