Grid Control: transaction play with trace problem
I'm using OEM Grid Control 10g, an Oracle Application Server 10g, and an Oracle Database 10g, all running on Linux.
I'm trying to use OEM Grid Control for performance tuning.
I've created a Web Application target and a transaction for my web app.
Then I go to Manage Transactions, select my transaction and click "Play". After transaction play, I can click on "Show Results". All works fine.
Instead, "Play with trace" doesn't work. The transaction is played, but when I click on "Show Results" it displays: "Error: Unable to get trace data" and displays only the same informations displayed after a simple "Play" command.
I've searched in log files, in particular $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/log/emoms.log in EMGC10g ORACLE_HOME contains:
2004-06-23 11:13:46,137 [EMUI_11_13_45_/console/webapp/e2e/trace/postresults] ERROR csm.target endElement.500 - Invalid element: name
2004-06-23 11:13:46,137 [EMUI_11_13_45_/console/webapp/e2e/trace/postresults] ERROR csm.target endElement.500 - Invalid element: bad_parameters
Tracing on application server is activated.
Is this a bug?
Hi Rob,
It doesn't seem to write anything to the emagent.trc file. Makes you wonder whether the agent is running properly - it looks like it is:

Using my ipod nano -when listening to an audio book it freezes after about 10 minutes. I have done a soft reset, I have deleted the audio book and re- installed. My music plays with no problem.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

60fps footage in 30fps timeline plays with artifacts problem
I have to types of footage for a project: 720P 60fps shot in avchd and 1080P 30 shot with an HDV camera.
I am trying to combine the clips in the Premiere pro CS 4.1 AVHD 720P30 sequence preset. I do have to resize the 1080P footage but that is fine. The 60P footage plays at the correct speed, but it is filled with artifacts during playback in the timeline.
When I view the 60fps footage in the AVCHD 720P60 sequence preset, it playse back smoothy with no artifacts.
Am I missing a setting (such as frame blend maybe) or should I just try to edit everything in a 72060fps sequence and hope the hdv footage will be okay?
Thanks! That's strange--the Source monitor is, as far as I'm aware, frame rate and format-agnostic, and should playback whatever is in it at its native frame rate. Unlike a sequence (and therefore, the Program monitor), it bends to the will of the material it contains, regardless of what it is. I'm indeed bewildered by this, and I'm sorry to say I don't have any idea what the problem might be. Did you change the interpretation of the footage after you imported it, or is it "as-is"? What is the playback quality setting for the source monitor?
EDIT: By way of example, the screen shot below shows a 29.97P clip in the source monitor, and then the same clip and frame in a 23.976 sequence. Frame Blending is on for the clip in the sequence, resulting in the smear, but that's not a problem in the source monitor: -
How to control transaction isolation with tjdo + jboss
When running TJDO (a jdo-implementation) in conjunction with JBoss, tjdo's PersistanceManagerFactory is created by jboss as a service and can be retrieved using jndi when needed.
This tjdo is configured by a file tjdo-ds.xml in the deployment directory. Does anybody know if it is possible (and how) to control the transaction isolation level of tjdo in this case? The default is serializable, but experience indicates that using read_committed should be more useful if Oracle is used as database.
Best regards

Creating physical standby db through grid control 11g fails with "default listener is not running"
On step 4/6, i am getting error like below
ErrorExamine and correct the following error(s), then re-try the operation.Default Listener in Grid Infrastructure - The default listener in the grid infrastucture is not running.
I have the listener running on grid user and grid home, 11.2 in both primary and standby.
During these steps till 4, its no where asked for grid user password.
Not sure how it will detect the grid home listener.
Listener is running with default port 1521 on both the servers primary and standby
On the step 4 screen the other option for default listener is non-default listener and its pointing to db home and not grid home.
So i guess oracle is looking for the listener to be up on the db home and not on grid home causing the issues,
if so how to fix this ?
I am using role separation, separate user for grid and oracle homes grid and oracle user and all are on 11.2.0.1 db + gridHello again;

Multiple ALV Grid Controls per report - problem with default displ.variant
Hi,
I have a report with few screens called sequentialy. Each one of the screens has implemented own instance of ALV Grid Control within custom container, means:
- screen 100 has container Cont100 and grid control "grid100",
- screen 110 has container Cont110 and grid control "grid110"
- screen 120 has container Cont120 and grid control "grid120"
and so on...
Each one of the grid controls is initialized with own field catalog table, with own layout and variant structure definitions. My problem occurs when the user changes the display variant for some of the grid controls and save the layout variant using "default setting" checkbox. In this case next time the program is started all other grid controls behaves like they don't have their own variant definitions, but uses the default setting of the mentioned screen. This leads (usualy) to unsuable grid controls by default, because usualy different controls have no equal field-definition tables. I have the same behaviour even when there are more than 1 ALV grids on a single screen (for example - 2).
For now I don't provide variant variables at selection screen, but it seems there is no way to provide such variables for each one of the grid-controls.
Is anyone aware how to control this? Means no matter if there is default setting in use for some of the grid-controls, how to manipulate other grid-controls not to use this default setting?
Many thanks in advance.

Oracle Database FAQs -
Hi,
I'm a newbies in Oralce grid control. next month I will be start my new job which will involved in deploy and administer oracle grid control release 3.
I try to performed some setup just to have an initial idea how the grid control works. I have an Oracle RAC database (10.2.0.3) running on RHEL 4, 2 nodes.
Is grid control come together with the Oracle database software installation? or I have to download separately?
How is the grid control installation should be in place? Installation on the same database server or separate server? If both are allow which is the common approach?
Since my RAC database running in Linux, is it a must to have the grid control for Linux version? can I install into a windows server and managing all linux databases? Which should be the common approach?
Appreciate of any feedback given.
Many Thanks
best regards,
chongGridcontrol is separate software, don't confuse it with standalone DBConsole, which is part of a database creation. The latter can serve this particular database only.
If you have the resources, install gridcontrol separately. It needs some resources and may interfere with the monitored database(s).
You can install gridcontrol (more exactly the management services) everywhere, on Windows,Linux,Solaris .... .
What you need on the monitored machines is the correct agent for the platform. So you don't need gridcontrol for Linux, but you need the agent for Linux.

Grid Control Lincesing - Confused
Hi! Please help me understand Grid Control interoperability and licensing scheme!
1. Is it possible to manage Standard Edition instances (I mean management packs functionality) by Grid Control? (We have one Enterprise Edition instance).
2. If so, what licenses should we purchase?
Thanks in advance!
Ilya.As I see it, it is based on what features you have or use "in" the Database - not on use of the Grid Control (and Database Control) web-based user interface. Any extra Database features have to be licensed whether used through EM or sql scripts or from some other management tool (application).
Part of your concern should be relatively easy to answer:
As there are no Packs for SE, there should not be any "extra" manageability features that we need to worry about purchasing further licenses for, right? This idea may seem easy enough and it is perhaps backed up by the sentence that The management packs can be purchased only with Enterprise Edition (from the Database Licensing Information document, Options and Packs).
Per my own understanding, certain Database features are, licensing-wise, available in Packs. From the Database 10g Licensing Information doc, we have: Oracle Change Management Pack, Oracle Configuration Management Pack, Oracle Diagnostic Pack, Oracle Tuning Pack (requires the Diagnostic Pack). The last two packs are of certain interest here, and includes features such as AWR, ADDM, history and advisor data dictionary views, performance reports (sql scripts), SQL advisors, SQL Tuning Sets, and so on the long list goes.
The Licensing doc says "In order to use the features listed above, you must purchase licenses for the <NN> Pack. The <NN> Pack functionality can be accessed by Enterprise Manager links as well as through the database server command-line APIs. The use of either interface requires a <NN> Pack license.". The <NN> part is my edit.
So, in which way you use it does not matter. The database features need to be licensed for the database (not EM).
So, the use of EM depends on the use of other packs' functionality (in Database, Application Server, etc.). The Grid Control product, however, is described as a key feature of SE1, SE as well as EE (i.e. all editions except XE) on the Product Editions & Features page (look under Manageability).
So, from that link, to me it is quite obvious that Grid Control is "free" with the database and that it can be used to monitor/manage SE database instances - but you need to be careful about the use of underlying functionality or features. (still, you can only purchase the packs for EE?)
Basically it all boils down to: If you want something perfectly clear, understandable, and possible to comply to; You have to have an agreement with Oracle about these matters. Such an agreement (or contract) should be made with somebody from Oracle that is authorized to make such agreements - while staying within the OLSA limits.
* These are all my personal views on the matter. You can not and should not use anything written here as a basis for your license purchases or any use of Oracle products. *
Sorry if I'm just adding to the confusion, but hopefully it is a start... ;-)

Do I need to start up dbconsole on each server if I am using GRID control ?
Well this is not "completely" true. Grid control can be used as a free product provided , you don't use the Tuning and Management packs and don't install them. Search over this forum for the same discussion and you will find a thread talking about it. Grid control, is used with Tuning Pack becomes a paid product(legally). About the pricing, I would suggest to contact your sales rep as its not a good thing to ask someone over a public forum about licensing, it can be quite tricky and depending on the negotiation skills of yours, price may vary as well.

Problem with alv grid control editable
Hello all. I ask your help with this question because I did not find the answer in the forum. Sorry for my pour english.
I have an alv grid control (OO) with the standards buttons 'insert a line', 'delete a line', 'copy a line'.
My problem is I want to catch the event of these buttons, because after I register the events mc_evt_enter y mc_evt_modifies, when I push the button to insert a new line the alv grid show the new line and then get a dump with error: Field symbol has not yet been assigned.
My problem is that no event is launched when I push the button. I tried to catch the event before command but it does not happen.
It is like these standard buttons works apart and it is not possible to find out what they are doing.
I have read the manual easy reference for alv grid control, and I created the class lcl_event_handler exactly equal.
I have tried to debug the code in order to find the error but I can find out where it has been done.
Thank you in advance. If anybody needs to see my code I will send you or post you.David,
What you need to do for that is to enable the editing field by field. You will have to add a field STYLE type LVC_T_STYL to the DATA table. This nested internal table will hold the information for each field of the row, whether the column is editable or not. So, if you have 5 columns, then the nested internal table will have 5 rows for each row of the main internal table.
Once this is done, you will have to append a blank row to the table, making all the fields editable and REFRESH the display.
Regards,
Ravi
