Hi all,
I'm trying to manage a 9.2.0.1 database with Grid Control 10.2.0.2
Everything is working fine except in the Performance tab, i can't find links for Memory Advisor and Undo Advisor.
This Link below provides a Database Management Matrix and Memory/Undo advisor are listed in 9i version
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/pdf/em_gc_8i-9i_4.pdf
Any help ?

Hi MarGur
I try to help you. The OEM Grid Control in some times not discover the Oracle 9i databases and you must to add manually.
First, check in your target machine that the user owner of agent software have rights of read and write in the ORACLE_HOME directories of Oracle 9i databases.
Go to Grid Control Console
Select Targets ---> Databases
Press Add --> Select the host ebisdb2.oneshield.com and press continue
The automatic discover process begin. When finished is very normal that nor discover the Oracle 9i databases. You press the Add manually button
in the page that appear you must entry all the configuration information of database:
ORACLE_HOME directory
DBSNMP USER
DBSNMP PASSWORD
HOSTNAME
PORT
SID
Check that the dbsnmp user in your database is unlock and press the TEST button to verify the connection work fine.
After this many windows appear of configuration process, and you will put the sys password and host credentials.

  • Release Date of EM Grid Control 10.2 for HP-UX and Solaris?

    Hello,
does anybody know the estimated release date of EM Grid Control 10.2 for HP-UX and Solaris?
    Regards,
    Martin

We are also very curious about that here. If anyone has any information or estimates it would be much appreciated.
We've ran into the following problem:
Note 338123.1 After Upgrading Catalog Database to 10.2 Cannot Use RMAN Catalog With 10.1 Grid Control
And have been told we have the following options:
    Workarounds available:
    1. Use dbcontrol for the 10.2 database to maintain the recovery catalog until 10.2 Grid Control is available
    2. Use the RMAN command line utility
    3. Use the 10.2 Management Agent when available.
Which basically means we are out of luck on OEM RMAN until 10.2, and hope to hear it may be available in the near future.

  • SQL tuning Advisor for old statements

    Hi all,
i've identified SQL ID (through snapshots AWR) that make me performance problem. This is a old select statement (Mar 10, 2008) and when i try to run sql tuning advisor, it shows me this error:
"There was a problem creating a SQL tuning task. ORA-13780: SQL statement does not exist. ORA-06512"
I've set AWR for retain 60 days of Snapshot Retention, why i can't run tuning advisor for this statement??
    thanks very much for answers.
    Andrea

    Hi
The problem is that the information of AWR is based on Historical information that Oracle retrieve of historical tables . AWR means Automatic Workload Repository.
But when you execute the SQL tuning advisor task, Oracle needs retrieve the information of sql statement from SHARED POOL.
The Library Cache is a part of Shared pool and contains an area named SQLAREA that stored information of execution plan for sql statements. This memory area is managed by LRU alghoritm.(last recently used) and the error is produced because this sql statement not is stored in this memory area.
When the sql stament not reside in memory Oracle can't build the execution plan and then the error appear

  • Sql tuning advisor for concurrent requests

    Dear all,
I am having one doubt in my mind from very long time. Can we use sql tuning advisor from 10G(EM) to tune concurrent requests and reports?
    Regards

    Hi Helios,
I am just thinking wiht voice. If you have one code blog which is typed in sql-pl/sql for your concurrent request, its going and run on dbtier. So it has one SQL'ID and also can be check on AWR report. So i belive you can use sqltuning adviser for to can tune related sqlAFAIK, some Instances a single concurrent request may contain multiple SQLID's and in that scenario tuning approach is difficult. Any information how can we consolidate it. If tune one specific sql then the explain plan for other sql become more worst. I came across this situation so many time.
Any information or inputs on this is really appreciated.

What is the best installlation document to follow for the latest EM Grid control ?The latest Grid Control is available for download at http://download.oracle.com (Scroll down to "Enterprise Management"). There is a README beside the download link. THAT README PROVIDES INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS.
In a nutshell, you install the lowest version (10.2.0.1 or 10.2.0.2, which ever is lower for your Grid Control platform), and then apply the 10.2.0.5 patch according to the readme. That should not normally take more than a day.

Also, can GRID discover PeopleSoft and Siebel application software ?
That can be found using the self-help portal: http://otn.oracle.com -> Products : Enterprise Management (left edge menu). In the 'Product Focus' area, you will notice 'Application Management' which will lead you to the appropriate data sheets and supporting information.

  • Installing of Grid Control failed at Repository Creation Assistant

I have a "clean" Windows Server 2003 machine (formatted hard disk, installed the OS and applied all service pack and critical system updates). I was trying to install Oracle Grid Control 10.1 for Windows.

  • Configuring Grid Control on 10g R2

    Hi
Current Envt : Oracle 8.1.7/Win NT.
We are going migrate to 10g R2 ,
In the current 8i environment, we have a EM database which manages RMAN backups of a couple of Other databases.
And we monitor these backup jobs through this Enterprise Manager 2.2.
Also, using this OEM 2.2, iam able to monitor all the existing databases .
    Coming to 10g R2 (10.2.0.1)
i realized that Enterpise Manager (web based) is only for a single instance.
And i read some where that 10g Grid Control would be helpful for multiple databases.
and how to access the Grid Control..and configure multiple databases on it.
Currently, i installed Grid Control 10.1.0.5 by giving the path as
    E:\app\oracle\product\10.2\em_1
However, iam not able to figure as how to bring up the Grid Control.
I wanted to know if someone can provide the steps on how to install (if i have been doing anything wrong ?
Whether while installing i have to give the same $ORACLE_HOME as with the database ?
I also tried the same way as regular DBcosole ie., http://localhost:port/em
In addition, while creating the DB using DBCA, i selected the Grid Control Option.
Please suggest as how to proceed further.
    Thanx

You probably didn't install the DBconsole.

For this option to work, you need to have Grid Control operational. First start with selecting only DBConsole...this way you can manage your database. After you get Grid Control installed and the agent is working properly, you can stop the DBConsole service and use Grid Control to manage your target database.

  • Error when trying to install OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.2 win32

    Hi
I'm trying to install Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control release 2 for windows server 2003 32 bits, but the installation could not be completed.
I got the following error when OMS Configuration step is running.
SEVERE: OUI-25031:Some of the configuration assistants failed. It is strongly recommended that you retry the configuration assistants at this time. Not successfully running any "Recommended" assistants means your system will not be correctly configured.
    1. Check the Details panel on the Configuration Assistant Screen to see the errors resulting in the failures.
    2. Fix the errors causing these failures.
    3. Select the failed assistants and click the 'Retry' button to retry them.
The "C:\OracleHomes1\agent10g\cfgtoollogs\configToolFailedCommands" script contains all commands that failed, were skipped or were cancelled. This file may be used to run these configuration assistants outside of OUI. Note that you may have to update this script with passwords (if any) before executing the same
When I look into the configToolFailedCommands log file, the are any more information regard the issue.

My server that was running that version had crashed, so I'm trying to install it again.
I have EBS 12.0 and 10g DB that I usually monitored with Grid Control.

  • MOS Credentials setup in Grid Control 11g Error

    Hi All
I have a 11g Grid Control Environment setup on a W2K8 R1 32 bit with a 11g db. Everything works ok apart from the patching setup.
When I setup the proxy settings and test the patch url it works, but says need to setup MOS
When I do this i get network error cannot connect to oracle support.
In the emoms file it says this
oem 11g cannot establish proxy connection: 407 proxy authentication required
I have managed to set the server to bypass any proxy server and can connect out to the internet and firewall logs to prove this, but if i choose no proxy i get the error of no proxy server setup. But should i need to if its bypassed anway
Also is there a file where i can put my credentials manually on the server, maybe some config/xml file? It must be stored somewhere.
    Any advice much appreciated
    Thanks

    Check note:
11g Grid Control: Setting Credentials for 'My Oracle Support' Fails with "Networking error: Unable to connect to My Oracle Support" [ID 1119897.1]
The Firewall should allow connections to:
    *.loginadc.oracle.com
    support.oracle.com
    login.oracle.com
    updates.oracle.com
Actually it is best to allow all connections from the OMS-server to the outside world, because I have seen GC using URL's I have never even heard of. But if your company will allow this?
In case of problems you could ask the Firewall manager to check the Firewall logging on traphic coming from the OMS-server that is not allowed to go through the firewall.
Note: Understanding Proxy Settings in Enterprise Manager Grid Control [ID 471842.1] is also good reading.

    Hi,
can we have a standby database with oracle grid control.i mean i want to have grid control + physical standby for my database(data guard)Question not clear. You can have a primary database, then you can have a standby database and then you can have grid control (on a separate server) to monitor both your primary and standby.
i just know grid provides data guard facility.kindly explain how does it provide this functionality in grid. No, grid does not provide data guard facility. You can use OEM grid to create and manage your dataguard environment, but it does not provide this facility at its own. OEM grid is an administration/management and monitoring toll for Oracle environment.
if there is disaster can i have a physical standby Your create a physical standby and then make it primary in case of any disaster.
also please tell me does sap application support grid controlYou may find your answer in the following thread.

  • Installing Grid control

    Hi,
I have oracle 11gR2 database on windows 2008 with 64 bits. There is no package of grid control on OTN for windows 64bit. So can anyone suggest me how should I start?
    1. Do I need to install the grid control on some other server and then access all the databases from that server?
    2. Also since doing for the first time I wanted installation guide on windows. I did not find the readme of grid control good.
    Thank you,
    Myra

    Hi Myra,
The OMS on Windows is only supported on 32 bits, see note: Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Certification Checker [ID 412431.1] on support.oracle.com
So it is best to use a 32 bit Windows server.
We have one 32 bit W2008 server running OMS and the database without a problem. But you can put the OMS and the Database on different servers.
The minimum bandwidth between the database and OMS should be at least 1Gb/sec (maximum latency 30 ms), this should these days not be a problem.
Thus, you can use the 64 bit database you have now, or create a new DB + OMS on one 32 bit Windows server.
In Master Note for Grid Control 11.1.0.1.0 Installation and Upgrade [ID 1067438.1] you will find the example How to Install 11.1.0.1.0 on MS Windows 2003
A difference of using W2008 compared to W2003 is that you have to run executables (setup.exe) with the "run as administrator" option.

  • Grid Control Monitoring Solutions

What are the Good solutions of Grid control/Plug Inns for monitoring solutions of DB?

Grid control is the best way to monitor your
    grid computing infrastructure.
You can monitor OS level statistics, application level , and database in a RAC or grid environment or standalone. You can do end to end moitoring and easily view how much time is spent in the database, applicaiton server amd set events and threshholds for applicaiton server database and even network latencies.
Grid control is the way forward for cluster computing environments as well

  • Security concern about grid control agent

I am planning for grid control rollout. Our system administrator is concerned about
security of grid control agent. For example, I do not know the Oracle password,
I sudo to Oracle after login as myself.
What are the options do I have ? I have told my system admin that
other companies use "oracle" - the database sysdba/software owner as agent owner.
But my system admin think this is a big security risk since he has to tell me the
    oracle password

In more explicit terms, what is the security concern you have?
Specifically, I do not see what you mean by the sentence:
when I install grid control agent as "oracle", I provide "oracle "password in order
to run job on our unix server.By "oracle" are you referring to the Oracle Software owner account, by which the Database and/or EM software was installed?
Please explain how the job is related to installation of management agent. If you are talking about running jobs after installation, when agent is configured and running, where and how exaclty are you required to enter "oracle" password?

  • Enterprise Manager Grid Control - SSH not working on Windows

    Hi,
We tried the below steps to install EM Grid control on our Windows servers.
    • Oracle Application Grid Control with Oracle Management Agent has been installed successfully on Server1.
    • As part of prerequisites for Agent installation using Agent Deployment Wizard, we have installed Cygwin in both the boxes – SOA box (Server2) and Grid control box (Server1) for SSH communication. However, the agent installation failed and the service in SOA box failed to start. We tried re-installation of Cygwin but unable to bring up Cygwin service.
    • We have installed SOA suite in another box (Server3) and then installed Cygwin. Cygwin installation was successful and all previous issues were resolved.
However, SSH communication is getting failed because of the error "User Authentication failed on remote nodes:Server3. Either the provided username and password is incorrect or Password Authentication is disabled for the sshd daemon on the remote nodes. To enable Password Authentication set the property PasswordAuthentication to "yes" in the SSHD Configuration File (sshd_config) on the remote nodes".
We are able to achieve SSH communication when we manually try it through Cygwin Bash Shell.
Any pointers in resolving this would be highly appreciated.

I couldn't get to work either so I left the ssh configuration out and went on with 'silent' installation which worked like a charm and oem discovered it right away. Be sure change the parameters according to your environment in 'additional_agent.rsp' file and use that to run the silent installation. You may have to add one additional parameter manually about agent home location, look in the documentation for the exact parameter name. Hope this helps, Viral.
