Grid lines over audio tracks

How can I view the grid lines over/thru audio tracks?

Yea, that would really be a useful feature.
My work around has always ben to put a blank track above or below (or both) the track being edited. That way I can see transients against the grid lines, as they appear above and/or below the region.

  • Multiple use of the same video time line for different audio tracks

    I have a 90 minute video timeline
I will be putting different audio tracks in multiple languages.
But as i was just editing i wondered if i could use only a segment (30 minutes ) of the timeline
along with a 30 minute audio.
    Example:
So the first thing on the menu will be the whole 90 minute video
with a 90 minute music track
Second thing might be the 90 minute video with a 90 minute commentary
Third thing might be the first 30 minutes of video with a different commentary
Forth thing on the menu might be the first 30 minutes of video and 30 minutes of
    a different language
    Etc.
I realize i will need to make space (mb)  for all the audio.....but if i could use the same video or pieces of it
    that would be fantastic.
If i can do this i am presuming i should use playlists and chapter playlists to get it done?
I have never done this before and would love some feedback on an over view or tips
that might save me some guess work
    Thanks for any help :-)

    Hey Stan!
Thanks for your help...i think i am really getting this. And have learned a lot.
I had to go back to my computer programming and flowcharting skills to figure out the flow :-)
And i still have 153mb to spare when i build it.
I ended up lining up all the different videos and audios exactly for each time line except for 1 timeline.
Question: I know if the audio is shorter it will be ok.... but if the audio is longer than the video on a timeline ( and its the audio i assigned it by specify link )
Will the DVD keep playing until the audio is done or end when the video is done playing?
2nd Question: I am previewing the playlists with the "Preview from Here" feature
I specify the link and chapter within that timeline ( it is the only timeline with more than one chaper....the one with the longer audio than video from the question above )
For most of the audios i only need video chapter 1.....the preview here plays it ok but if i hit the skip to next (in the preview button on theright of the play button)...it goes to the next chapter #2... instead of the next timeline chapter 1 like it is programed to do from the playlist.
I am wondering if this is just fluke in the preview feature...or will it do that on the actual DVD as well?
Lastly because i am using different timelines. I am wondering if there are delays between playlists? for example...i have a long audio that continues between three timelines...i have spliced it pretty fine so it picks up perfectly on the next timeline...but i am wondering if the DVD when playing in realtime will have a little black space inbetween timelines.
Thanks again for your help and time :-)

    Hiya Mark.
DVD-Video is video dominant, with the audio always following the visuals so if the audio ends berfore the video it will not (okay, should not) be a problem.
However, the other way around could go either way - if the actual video timeline has ended the audio may well truncate so I would personally add videoblack at the very least.
I am also not at all sure how you are going to work a single contiguous audio file across 3 separate playlists. This sounds flawed in concept to me (have I misunderstood your meaning?). In DVD-Video the format is graphically/visually dominant - the audio must always be tied to a visual asset be it a menu or a timeline - so there is no way to have one piece of audio playing across 3 timelines and having it play back glitch free whilst the timeline changes. You will not get a black space - it will simply stop. So unless I have misunderstood you in some way.........
As Stan says, preview is flaky - the only way to know for sure is to multiplex & burn.

  • White line across an audio track on premiere pro cc

In trying to access the waveform and volume control on a clip I don't know what I did but now there is a white line across the entire track preventing me from moving clips on that track - can anyone help me turn this off?  thanks!

it wont show the waveform unless "zoomed" in enough. if this is the case for you, you can use the scroll wheel over the audio track (A1 for example), and scroll up or down to zoom in and out. its also possible to zoom in using the scroll bar handles to the right, at the end of timeline.  make sure "show audio waveform" and "show audio keyframes" is turned on to see the audio waveform and volume automation line. you can hold down the ctrl key instead of switching to the pen tool, to create new points when clicking the white line. adjust as needed...

  • Using voice-over function I see the result on the specific audio track but I don't hear anything. What to do?.

Making a film in imovie I never had problems with voice-over. However in my current project I experienced problems at the end. Using the voice-over function I see the result - audio waves at the voice-over track - but I don't hear any sound of this track if I review or play this part of the project. Somebody an idea what I did wrong? Thanks for any suggestion.

Not sure why, but sometimes a project will just cease playback of Voiceovers added to it. I've seen this before, but never had it persist into a new project. As with any issues that are specific to a single project, it's usually best to start over, as one problem is quite possibly indicative of further issues down the line with that same project.
As a workaround (if you REALLY want to avoid recreating the project) would be to copy the voiceover files from within the iMovie Project file (browse to your Movies/iMovie Projects/ folder and right-click or CTRL+Click on the name of the project, then click "Show Package Contents") for that project out to your Desktop (or any other accessible location), then drag them back in to add them as a regular audio track. I've used this trick successfully, but it's not 100% (going back to the 'one problem means more later' thing).

  • When I record an audio track, there is a waveform. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing?

When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

    In Logic:
    Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

  • Logic Pro when recording audio and midi takes, the regions sometimes become confused. The midi tracks line up with audio tracks.

It sounds like you are seeing some unexpected behavior when you are working on your project. I would use troubleshooting steps 6-10 from the following article named:

If you have either iMovie 09 or iMovie 11 you can do this easily using the Cutaway feature.
Go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure that the Advanced Tools are enabled.
Now you jut drag and drop the 2nd clip onto hte first clip at the frame where you want the Cutaway to start. A popup menu will appear. Choose Cutaway.
    Here is a good Tutorial.
If you have iMovie 08, let me know. There is a way to do it, but it is more complex.

  • Panasonic TM700 1080/50p no audio track in time line

    Hi Guys
I have PP CS5 5.0.3 and a Panasonic TM700 in 1080/50P mode, audio tracks are playable in the sequence monitor and when I edit a clip and drop it into the time line there is no audio in the time line at all. I have set up a custom preset in desktop mode and set it to 1080  50 progressive and to 5.1 sound. etc and saved it as TM700 preset.
This has been frustrating me no end as you can apparently edit these files natively in PP CS5
    thanks

    Hi
Have you tried dragging some footage onto the new item folder (next to the dustbin) in the project panel to create a new sequence?
This will setup a new seqence with the sound track that the clip is using.
    A good place to start.
I have the TM700 and use it with CS5 PP all the time @1080/50p

  • Turn off diagonal lines on locked audio track?

    Hello,
Not sure if I missed the option somewhere, but it's a bit difficult to read the waveform when I lock the audio track.  Is there a setting that removes that overlay?
    Thanks,

Something that might help is to expand the vertical zoom of that Audio Track. In the Track Header, hover the cursor around the junction between Tracks, until it turns into a double-line with vertical arrows - Click-drag. That will give you a "taller" Waveform, from which to work.
    Good luck,

  • Audio tracks mute flat lines. Beware of PluralEyes. It is poison!

Can't find my old post to write this solution. Dead flat-lined audio on a timeline. I am pretty sure it was caused by Pluraleyes, supplied by my client. It poisoned the entire project. Every time the fils is closed, on reopening, it makes some and sometimes all of the audio tracks pans nan (not a number). I've had to trash my project and begin again, its that bad. A solution to save some edits has been to export XML file. Open this XML file in FCP, without all effects, then import the XML back into Premier. But it MUST be opened in a brand new Premier document. AND all Plural Eyes elements must be removed from the edits before exporting the first XML, or the problems will follow. Test this. Do a little work. Quite and reopen to test if the problems are still following you. These results are not conclusive however, I saved two major edits this way.

Not bizarre. If you have 8 tracks set to playback in real time and you add more you will need to render. Set your number higher than 8.

  • Global changes on an audio track or between in and out

I've come over from Avid and on Avid I could set an in an out point on an audio track and then changes the values of volume and pan which would then be changed between the in and out points.  I'm editing an interview and the radio mic channel has flipped over to one side and I want it in the middle and cannot get it to stay there.    I know that I can "write" in the audio mixer and just hold it there for hours, but I'm assuming there is a simpler way.  I know about paste attributes but it's not clear what I'm copying and where I'm pasting those attributes.  It would be far simpler if I could just select the audio track, set it the way I want it and tell it not to change for the duration.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

At the lower left of the timeline, there's a button that looks sort of like an upside down V. Click it- the clip overlays. You'll see red lines appear on your audio tracks. Grab the pen tool. Using it, you can click on the red rubber band lines to place key frames where you want. in your case, click once where you want your audio to begin fading out, then click again where you want the fade to end. On this last point, drag the keyframe all the way down, vertically.
As mentioned earlier, you can do this in the viewer as well - using the pen tool.
