Grid view of books doesn't show everything - thus selective sync impossible

I have recently added a bunch of audio books to iTunes. However, only about half of them showed up in the grid view. Only after checking out the list view did I see that the books were actually in iTunes and just weren't shown.
This wouldn't be so bad if the selective synchronisation of books wasn't based on said grid view, with no possibility to change said view. Therefore, I have the choice between syncing all audio books, for which I do not have the space on my iPod, ignoring the ones the grid view doesn't show or deleting the ones I don't want synchronised and sync all others.
So, what do?

At a guess your "missing" books are simply organised as Music instead of Books - here's how to fix things...
Audiobooks
With iTunes 8.x or later you have the option to tell iTunes to treat any audio file as an audiobook. Simply select the tracks, *Get Info.*, then on the options tab set *Media kind* to Audiobook. You can also set options to *Remember playback position* and *Skip when shuffling*.
Assuming, however, that the books consist of more than one file you may have problems if you plan to listen to them on an iPod. The Audiobooks feature was originally designed for books that have been stitched up into a single file and hasn't been updated to reflect the changes that now make multi-track audiobooks easy to work with in iTunes. The main issue is that the iPod lists all audiobook files by track title/chapter name so unless you rename every track using a scheme such as *Book Title, Chapter XX* the tracks will play out of sequence. There are tools for creating iPod-friendly audiobooks for which Aldo on Audiobooks is probably the best reference. Personally I don't bother with the extra effort and just have an "Audiobooks" playlist folder containing sub-folders for each author and within these playlists for each audiobook. Although I still mark the files as Audiobooks to keep them out of my main music section when it comes to the iPod I ignore it's Audiobooks feature and use my own playlists for access.
Note that I've used leading digits in the playlist names to arrange these in chronological rather than alphabetical order.

Thanks to both of you for attempting to help. I finally figured out what was wrong . . . it was a Permissions problem. Very frustrating, but after scouring the troubleshooting tips I finally found the one that solved my problem. I had to add a User and give it Read/Write privileges to Lightroom. The file I had to add the User to was Hidden on my Mac, so that added an even bigger challenge to the mystery. Only a few days left on my trial version! I hope I have time to try it out!

IPhoto: title of book doesn't show in the layout preview although a picture and headline was created. What do I do wrong? All other photos show in the preview normally?

Try the following::
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later -run Option #4 to rebuild the database

Installed fonts (mac Default font) in my Font Book doesn't show up in photoshop CC

Hello, I'm in trouble with fonts.
I'm using mac OS X 10.9.4 mavericks.
I want to use 'HanziPen SC' which is already installed in my Font book but it doesn't show up in photoshop CC.
It has been default font since mavericks, maybe.
And I have same situation in AI as well.
I've already tried to clear cache and reboot photoshop but it didn't work to me.
Does anyone help me?

It was solved!
But in my case, the reason why it didn't show up was veeeery stupid...
I checked out Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC/CT Font Cache/Adobe_Fnt_OSFont.lst
Then, there was 'HanziPen SC' and I found out surprising fact!
Its Writing script was 'Chinese'!!
So I couldn't find 'HanziPen' even though I typed 'HanziPen'.
It has been shown up in Chinese...
What I did is to over write WritingScript,FamilyNameNative,StyleNameNative,FullNameNative to Japanese.
I don't know why it happened to me at all. but anyway, finally I was able to see the one in photoshop CC.
Again, Thank you for your kindness. If you didn't suggested about cache files, I might have not found out the answer.

Downloaded book doesn't show up

Have downloaded an ePub book, and it shows up on ADE when first downloaded, but when I leave ADE and come back, it does not show up. Is there some way to "search" for a particular book? This book is a collection of 12 novels, 12 different authors, and none of the titles show up in my list.

You should be able to copy it over by connecting your phone to your computer's iTunes and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases - it should copy over to the Books part of your library

'Today' search in finder doesn't show everything

I've been trying to get a printer driver to work for a Lexmark Z605. When I run the installer I've downloaded from Lexmark it installs a load of files (lots of names pass quickly along with a progress bar) and I've been trying to work out where it puts them. I thought the 'Today' search in Finder would be a good way to do this, but it doesn't seem to pick up any of the recently created driver files. I've found some of them by hand, for example 'Z600SeriesPM.plugin' located in MacintoshHD>Library>Printers>Lexmark , clearly showing a modified date of today. But it doesn't show up in the 'Today' search.
I'm assuming some file types are excluded from the search? Is there any way of updating the search to find these files, I thought it would be really useful for this, but so far it's been no help at all.

By default the search function doesn't return System files, you must tell it if you want those files included, using the criterion drop down menu to select More, then select System Files from the list (if you add a check mark, it will appear in the drop down list from then on). Also, the canned Today search shows files only, not folders, and the search is for things with a "last opened date" that is today.
What is it you really want to do? I presume you just want the printer to work? You may be out of luck, Lexmark's download page doesn't even show support for that printer for anything beyond 10.4, and it has drivers for 10.1 and OS 9. Makes it sound like it is really really old.

Hi,
Make sure that the Export flag against the Material field is selected in the custom search help that you are referring to.
Values can be returned from the hit list to the input template (screen) with an export parameter.

Font book doesn't show a preview of a newly installed font

I purchased the postscript ITC font Zapf Dingbat. It appears in the Font Book list, but there isn't a preview. It works fine in Illustrator, put it appears as Helvetica in Text Edit. Quark Xpress lists it in the font menu, but it doesn't appear in the document on screen. It does, however, print correctly and show up in PDFs I create from the Quark document. Any ideas?

None of my fonts show up when they are first added. I just get a blank.
Another problem - I added and used Times New Roman PS on Monday and used it in a document -
Tuesday came back to same document, checked Font Book and the font was still active - except it wasn't. It defaulted on printing. Rechecked Font Book and it was activated. So I deactivated it and reactivated it and it worked. Why?
We also have to change Macs here because one Font Book will not use Helvetica today and another will. Tomorrow will be a different story. Why can't Font Book be reliable?

HT4059 I've downloaded ibooks and downloaded the free Beatles book to see what ibooks looks like. I click on the book inside itunes and nothing happens. Also, the book doesn't show up on my ipod touch within ibooks. What am I doing wrong?

I also tried to use it with an epub book and the same issue. It shows both books under "books" in itunes but I can't open either one. Neither shows up within ibooks on my ipod touch 4th gen. Thanks for help.

Tap the iBooks app not iTunes.
On your iPod tap Settings > Store
Make sure Books is enabled.

Can put to Remote View, but it doesn't show upon on Web

I've been using Dreamweaver MX 2004 since, well, 2004 --
without incident.
But out of the blue, I'm suddenly not able to post changes to
my Web site. I can make the changes, and I can save them in Local
View, and "put" them so that they appear in Remote View -- but they
are not appearing on the Web. (I've also confirmed that it's not
simply a browser cache problem.)
Also, all the pages on our Web site appear to have reverted
back to old versions of themselves from three weeks ago, site-wide.
Any ideas re: what's going on?? Thanks in advance for any
insights....

web pages on
their system
Please post a link to a page which should be displaying a
change
and let us know what changed item to look for
and we'll see if our internet connection is showing the
latest version

Adobe Content Viewer desktop preview doesn't show the animations

I built a Folio and wanted to preview it on the desktop. The audio I inbuilt functions but no animation does. In the InDesing animation preview it does work though. Where's the mistake?

InDesign animations are not supported. The preview panel in CS5 and CS5.5 has finally been appropriately named in CS6 to the SWF Preview panel.

During the setting up of my new iphone 4s music doesn' t show as a selection with icloud

i tried to set up my iphone 4s and itunes 10.5.2 to share music via i cloud
in settings>store>automatics downloads menu i had to activate apps and books as a choise ( there wasn 't a choise for music such i see in user manual)
Same in itunes edit>preferences>automatics downloads i had the same two choices
Also i don't have any imatch menu such as it reported there is under the store menu
i only see the genius activate choise
please help me understand what is the problem

You need iTunes 10.5 to be able to sync an iPhone 4S. If you have an older version of iTunes, you'll need to upgrade iTunes to the latest version.

ITunes doesn't show some playlists for sync with iPhone ...

I've got a few smart playlists.
The annoying thing now is that some of them do not show up under "my iphone" / Music / Playlists.
So I can't sync them to my iPhone ;-(
I used to have this smart playlist in the iPhone section of iTunes - but I can't remember when it disappeared.
For instance, I've got a smart playlist that contains some of the latest episodes of some podcasts.
It is populated fine, but it does not show up in the playlists for sync with my iPhone.
Another smart playlist (which I call "random pop") contains some music from my music collection.
This one does show up in the iPhone section of iTunes ...
BTW, just in case you wonder why I have this smart playlist containing some episodes of the podcasts: first, there are some episodes that I don't care for on my iPhone; second, with this little trick I can jump by a simple double-click to the next episode, no matter which podcast it belongs to, while listening to my iPhone.
Any insights, tips, and suggestions will be highly appreciated!

9300i connects but doesn't show up in PC Sync

Hi,
My 9300i connects via Bluetooth and the Nokia PC Suite. I can transfer files no problem, so it is definitely connected.
However, the PC Sync window shows no phone connected, and clicking on the "Select Phone" does nothing at all. It all used to work fine, then suddenly stopped - I've upgrade PC Suite twice, to no avail.
Any clues?

Does this happen with other applications?
Try opening a Terminal window and typing:
killall Dock
Which will restart the Dock. I bet it shows up. Other folks have had issues with this and it's usually the Dock has crashed.
