Grid Y negative and positive chaged in CS5

I know there is another thread with discussion on why different programs have the y axis inverted, which is fine. The problem is that all previous versions of Illustrator have your zero point as it would be on a normal mathmatical grid. Why now after 7 years of using Illustrator must I "rethink" how I am moving objects. We create dielines and now if I am placing my measurement text and callouts on the top and bottom, we have to do the opposite of what we did for all of these years. Not to mention artwork placement. Why is there not an option? This is pathetic on Adobe's part. Someone please tell me there is an option to invert the now inverted Y axis.

Here it is:
To change the ruler origin in CS5 to be the same as in CS4 and earlier, you may:
1) Find and open the AIPrefs (Win speak) or Adobe Illustrator Prefs (Mac speak) file; it is a hidden file in the hidden folder Adobe Illustrator CS5 Settings
2): Find and change the following two bits of code:
/isRulerOriginTopLeft 1 >>> /isRulerOriginTopLeft 0 (change 1 to 0)
/isRulerIn4thQuad 1 >>> /isRulerIn4thQuad 0 (change 1 to 0)
Note: This is a global change.

u can make -ve sign as positive in the query.
Go to query properties in the query designer, then click on display tab->there u will find in the number format block settings for the display of -ve numbers....u can change them to positive there...

StackedBarChart stacked bar corrupted when add negative and positive value.

When StackedBarChart series have (positive & negative) data stacked bar corrupted and loss data.
I have a chart with data stacked on (-,+)Y-Axis.
- With JfreeChart all this go rigth and data appear perfectly on each bar without loss.
- But when using javafx StackedBar Chart , when bar series have (positive & negative) data stacked bar corrupted and loss data.

As stated in your StackOverflow post, you should file this as a bug on Jira.
But I'd also point out that stacked bar charts with negative values are not a good idea. In a stacked bar chart, the highest point of the stack should represent the total of the individual bars. You lose this property if there are negative values, and the chart becomes misleading. (I'd bet that the cause of the bug is that the code assumes this property at some point.)

Validation of JTextField to accept negative and positive values

I have a question. I have a jTable populated with the fieldname
in the first column and datatype in the second column.
I would like to place a JTextField component in the frame
depending on the data type. So, if a row is selected in the table, the
datatype of that fieldname is retrieved and depending on that data type
I want a JTextField to be displayed.
Now, if the data type is of Integer type, I want the JTextfield to
accepts Integers only(positive). I have created a class that extends JTextfield.
But, I want the text field to accept negative integers also. Can anyone please guide me ?

Negative values in red and Positive values in black CONDITIONAL FORMATTING

I have to show Negative values in red and Positive values in black in one of my report.
i tried these conditions
1. <?if:GAIN<0.00?><?attribute@inlines:color;'red'?><?end if?>
but it shows negative values only in red ,positive values in black are missing
2. <?if:GAIN<0.00?><?attribute@incontext:color;'red'?><?end if?><?if:GAIN>0.00?><?attribute@incontext:color;'black'?><?end if?>
This gives the exact result what i wanted ...but the problem is i have five tables in my report ... so the above condition only allow changes in ONE TABLE ONLY. :(
Plzzzz anyone who can help me to sort out my problem or else SUGGEST ANOTHER WORKING CONDITION

This should not be difficult and moreover the BI Publisher Desktop installation comes with a set of examples:
Start -> Programs -> BI Publisher Desktop -> Samples -> RTF Templates -> Advanced -> Conditional
There you can find two templates with the exact same situation like yours, highlighting either the foreground color or background color.

Object Size and Position values not being retained

Hi,
I'm trying to set the size and position of a picture object in a report. This logo, should appear on the top right corner of the report.
The margins of the report are Left - .79 in, Right - 0.79 in, Top - 0.79 in and Bottom - 0.39 in.
The size of the picture object should be 1.574 x 0.79 inches.
I have ensured that File -> Page Setup -> dimensions are in INCHES.
I right click the logo and select 'Size and Position'.
I set 'Y' (distance between top of object and top margin) = 0. This is to perfectly align the object with the top margin.
Now, i set the height of the object = 0.79 inches. Ok the dialog and close.
The strange thing happening is, when i re-open the size and position dialog, i see that the values i set are not being retained.
0.79 becomes 0.810
and
0 become -0.010.
What am i doing wrong here? How can i make sure the values i specify in the size and position dialog are retained.

Ensure that "Snap to Grid" is turned off.
Make your grid size larger (.5 inches for example)
What is occurring (I suspect) is that your objects are snapping to the grid - thus changing the position and possibly size due to the Snap to Grid being turned on.

Missing Image Size and Position Data

In AI CS5 the size and position of an image were displayed in the top toolbar when you selected the image. This is missing in AI CS6, how can I get it back?

Well I did discover that what I need is called "Transform" but it's already checked in the menu you suggested. In fact EVERY box is already checked in that menu, and checking or unchecking them from that menu has absolutely no affect on anything anyway.
I found that I can expand one of the menus from the right side, and the "Transform" box is there, and that's fine. But that data (object size and position) was very useful when displayed on the top toolbar in CS5. Any idea how to make it appear in the top toolbar? It will un-dock (and is very difficult to re-dock)

Invoice or Billing documents negative or positive signs in Tables

Hi,
How can we recognise the amount signs are negative or positive(+/-) in VBRK and VBRP tables for all Invoices and Billing documents.
Is there any indicator in any other table will expain the sign when it is storing in database tables.
for example: when i create a debit memo, how the configuration settings will decide negative or positive?
Where can i find this indicators....
Is this the right place to post this question, if not please guide me....

The positive or negative signs will be applied based on the Order type Document category. The code is in standard SAP.
Also For any custom condition types in pricing procedure, the positive or Negative signs will be applied based on the condition type defintion and also any routines assigned to the condition types.

Showing Postive Values as negative and negative values as negative itself

Hi Experts,
I want to bring using a formula the value in negative always how this can be done pls advise.
For example
{Field 1 - Field 2 } e.g - = 1 here the value 1 is coming as postive and sometimes the same
{Field 1 - Field 2 } e.g - = -2 here the value -2 is coming as negative
Now I want that there should be some formula that in the above scenerio the Positives are made as negative and negative values stays as negative only.
Please advise how this can be achieved.

Are you speaking of a film negative for a photograph?
You can edit the image to the timeline, then go Effects Tab > Video Filters > Channel > Invert and apply the Invert effect to the clip on the timeline.
Note that film negatives do not render color correctly when inverted. When they were printed, color correction "packs" were applied that were emulsion specific to balance the latent color skew present in the negative image.
So you will also need to then add the effect Video Filters > Color Correction > Color Corrector and make further adjustments.

Convert color negatives to positives

I am new to photoshop element 10. I purchased for the purpose to process color negatives. ie convert negatives to positives. I am copying the originals using my CamCorder to photograph the film. I am not getting what I want using the "invert" process. I have taken the tutorial but it did not cover my subject. Some of my negatives are over 30 years old. Please help or direct me to where I can find my answers.

Not being the professional here and thus not knowing what I "can't" do, but rather just going ahead and playing with Elements 10 on my Mac, can on occasion be somewhat gratifying.
For anyone interested I will follow through on my above comment using the two sets of examples below, same procedure for both:
Using a homemade sunlight box and my little Panasonic Lumix Camera (sharp pics from 2 about inches away) I snapped the pictures of the color negatives and then I brought the now digitalized color negatives into Elements 10.
Next I...
cropped the negative image to desired size.
Hit COMMAND I     (This inverts the image with a strong cyan color cast)
then go to:
LAYER -> duplicate layer     (always a good habit to get into)
ENHANCE -> Auto Color Correction    ...or...   -> Adjust Color -> Remove Color Cast     ...or.... Adjust Color For Skin Tones   (or just play with it.. have fun with it.. see what can be done and what can't be done for real.)
and finally ENHANCE -> Adjust Lighting -> Brightness/Contrast to your personal preference.
Then either save for the web to put onto a CD or DVD or print it out.     It may not professionally perfect, nor work as good as a $700 scanner, but it certainly works well enough for me.... Good luck to all.   bill

Is Lightroom appropriate for scanned negatives and pictures

What little I have read about Lightroom assumes pictures taken with a digital camera. I have two digital cameras (Nikon D70 and Canon Elf IS 850) which give me reason to try Lightroom, and it has been recommended to me by a big-time photography acquaintance. Photoshop CS3 is what I am using.
I have hundreds (more likely thousands) of pictures I have scanned from old negatives and old prints (don't be surprised, as I am old and retired). My oldest photograph is an 1882 print of my grandfather milking a cow with my mother's comment in her scrapbook: "Dad can milk a cow!" Not surprising, as his parents had a farm, though my mother knew him as the owner of a small town hotel. I've a negative from about 1912 which I successfully scanned.
I have black and whites copied from my mother's scrapbook pictures, black and whites from black and white negatives of my children's youth, and color negatives from when color became affordable.
I think you get the picture.
The question again: Will Lightroom be helpful with these old pictures, be they from prints or negatives?

Hi,
I'm using Lightroom for processing and cataloging scans of both old slides and even older prints, and find it very convenient to use. Firstly the develop capabilities are pretty good for adjusting white balance and tone curve either on individual images or batch processing (e.g. correcting a magenta cast or skylight haze on a whole box of slides in one go). My slide scanner does a decent job of auto cropping the slides though I imagine LR would be good for this if not, however I do have to manually crop and straighten scans of prints from my flatbed scanner, and the lightroom UI seems to me to be good for that also.
I have also converted my initial 16 bit uncompressed TIFFs from the scanners to DNG, saving a fair amount of space (~30%). Some would argue this is totally unnecessary as you could compress the TIFFs instead, but I find the conversion to DNG within LR very easy to carry out, and I also find it gives better (lossless) compression especially on the somewhat grainy 16 bit scans. Once I'm happy with all the color and tone curve adjustments I'll probably produce 8 bit LZW Tiffs to archive and maybe discard the still huge 16 bit DNGs (depending on the cost of storage at that time).
I think Lightroom is also very good for the task due to the integrated nature of the DAM and Develop tools - it doesn't force you into a fixed sequence of working (such as having to do developing before cataloging and other metadata operations or vice versa).
EDIT: I just realized you're referring to Negatives, not slides, so you might find the Develop tools a bit harder to use as LR isn't optimized for handling non-camera images especially negatives, though as someone else noted there are some work-arounds for handling negative conversion. However once you manage to produce positives somehow, I'd definitely recommend LR for further work.

I have a mac osx version 10.9.2. I used to have the student version of creative cloud cs6 earlier this year. I cancelled my subscription several months ago and bought cs5 two weeks ago. I never had any problems with the cloud. I went through the entire download process for CS5, and they all showed up in my applications folder and appeared to have downloaded but every time I try to open them they bounce around next to the application manager icon and then disappear.

Can you change the units used for size and position in layout editor?

In Aperture 3.4, does anyone know if you can change the units used for size and position in layout editor? The page is set in inches, but the image size and position are given in centimetres and I would prefer to work all in inches to create custom layouts. I can't see any way to change this. If anyone knows how it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Aperture uses the unit settings defined in the System Preferences. Set the "Measurement Units" in the "Region" tab of the "Language & Text" preferences to "US"; the Aperture will display the Size & Position in inches, if it is the "Book" layout manager you are asking about.
