Gridbag Layout In Flex - Looking for canvasgrid

Hello,
I found a posting about a layout mechanism call canvasgrid,
based on the gridbag layout principle. It is documented at
Mannu's Blog.
It is a very effective layout, but the download is broken, and so
If anyone happens to have his open source reference The source
filename is canvasgrid_v0.3.1.zip, and it was originally located
at:
http://tasmania.globat.com/~mannu.info/flex/canvasgrid_v0.3.1.zip
If anyone happens to be a code squirel, like myself, and has
a copy of this, that would be great. I will make it a part of the
flexlib, just because it's so usefull.

Hi, You can try this:
package {
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import mx.core.SpriteAsset;
import mx.core.MovieClipAsset;
public class GameSymbols extends MovieClip {
[Embed(source='gameSymbols.swf', symbol='Coffee')]
private var CoffeeClass:Class;
//CoffeeClass represents the embedded symbol.
public function GameSymbols() {
//Flex defines CoffeClass as a reference to a subclass of
//SpriteAsset class - for single-frame SWF files or
//MovieClipAsset class - for multiframe SWF files.
var myCoffee:SpriteAsset = new CoffeeClass() as SpriteAsset;
//var myCoffee:MovieClipAsset = new CoffeeClass() as
MovieClipAsset;
//You can manipulate the embedded Symbol by using the
methods
//and properties of the SpriteAsset or MovieClipAsset class.
myCoffee.setActualSize(50, 50);
myCoffee.x = 10;
myCoffee.y = 10;
myCoffee.alpha = 100;
myCoffee.visible = true;
addChild(myCoffee);

  • What to look for in a web hosting company for Flex applications

    Hello,
    I am trying to figure out what I need to look for in a web
    hosting company if I want to deploy my own Flex applications? I
    don't anticipate having any special requirements other than the
    ability to interact with databases and XML files. Can someone help
    me figure out what the server-side requirements are?
    Thanks in advance!
    Matt

    then almost 99.9% hosting will work.
    if you want a Flexx app with compiler then oo thats different
    but as you say "I don't anticipate having any special requirements
    other than the ability to interact with databases and XML files"
    then you can go with pretty much any hosting, as long as they have
    apache, Database serve and I think thats it.

    Another option: I bought a nice one at REI for PWB in March, and now use it for MBP. Has space for my wacom tabet and also small 3x5 or so firewire HD, and of course power adapter and misc stuff. notebook compartment can be removed and carried separately. Very happy with it.

  • Looking for a site planner app - having a charity 5k obstacle course and would like to layout the course based on the property

    I am planning a 5k obstacle course run and would like to be able to layout the course on the property using my ipad - looking for a good app - any suggestions?

    Great responce, but still not enough talent !!!

  • Looking for a two-column CSS layout

    I am looking for a two-column CSS layout that is centered
    with blank space
    on the sides, so the layout does not expand across the entire
    screen, but
    instead uses a portion of it (such as 75%). The left column
    would be for
    navigation and I haven't decided if I want it to be liquid or
    fixed, but the
    right column for content would be liquid. There would also be
    a heading div
    and navigation div across the top and a footer across the
    bottom.
    While looking for sample sites I keep finding ones that use
    three columns,
    and I'm worried that if I remove the third column that the
    layout will break
    at some point, even if I don't see it in my test browsers.
    I'm also
    discovering that some of the sample pages out there don't
    respond well when
    I resize the browser window. The columns don't have a minimum
    width or they
    stack on top of each other at some point.
    There are so many different techniques to use when designing
    a layout with
    CSS, some better than others, that I thought maybe some
    people here may
    already know what's tried and true and what should be
    avoided. Are any
    layouts robust enough to allow a third column to be added at
    a future date
    if needed? I also like the idea of putting the content div
    first in the
    code, to improve search engine indexing and also to aid those
    who may be
    using a screen reader, but if that feature makes the coding
    much more
    complex then I could see why I might avoid it for now.

    Sorry Nancy, I didn't see your post for some reason. At least
    we agree (o:

  • What folder does flex look in for embed?

    When I start a new flex builder 3 project it creates several
    folders (eg: bin-debug, src, etc.)
    if I were to use this code:
    [Embed(source="logowithborder.jpg")]
    what folder should I put 'logowithborder.jpg' in?
    Thanks!

    Your source folder. Look in your application properties.
    Under "Flex Build Path", look for the "Main Source Folder" value.
    By default, Flex sets this to "src". This is the /src folder that
    is displayed below the root of the Flex Application. So, your image
    would be directly under "src". However, it's best to organize all
    of your files, so, you might want to create an "assets" folder
    under your source folder, and put your images in there. I actually
    have an assets folder with several other folders below it -
    "fonts", "icons", "images", "stylesheets" - for further
    organization.

  • I am looking for a tutorial I had found a few days back on Tabular data display in Flex

    Hi,
        I picked up Flex programming a few days ago and I was learning about data grids and tabular display of data. I came across a tutorial with code samples that showed how to 1. display information in a tabular format.
    2. how to read that information from a xml
    3. how to show more information if a item in the tabular format is selected.
    the tutorial used gamers and their preferred games as tabular data items and once an item is clicked it showed the game publisher info and some detailed information as text. I am looking for this particular tutorial again and not able to find through google search
    Could you please help me discovering this article again?
    regards,

  • Looking for awesome Flex developers

    I'm looking for awesome Flex developers who are interested in creating real-time collaborative applications. Deadline is 7 of May.
    You may call it a race. The apps created are automatically registered in a public voting system. The most popular app created wins 1000$, and the guy who recommend the winner gets 500$. So if you don't have time or don't like the idea of an application contest, be sure to let your friends know.
    This is an actual opportunity for freelancers who are looking to play with new technologies, but often don't find the time or motivation to do it.
    Rules:
                 - register first [free, that's not the point]
                 - use XTWIP collaboration service in your app (much like Adobe LCCS, except that you have full control over the content being shared and that you don't have built-in components)
                 - send your app until 7 of May 2010 [better hurry]
    References:
                 - http://www.xtwip.com/blog/xtwip-developer-contest/
                 - http://www.xtwip.com/blog/xtwip-contest-terms-and-conditions/
    Feel free to ask any question here, on the website, blog, or support email.
    P.S. This is a great opportunity for Flex developers to test their adoption skills. Its target is non-commercial, but technology driven. Cheers.

    Hello tedro2,
    By submitting your application to this contest, you agree that the intellectual property of your creation goes public, under Apache 2.0 license. After the contest is over, we will publish your application source code, as we are interested to allow the open-source community to learn from these experiences.
    Under your approval, we can also publish your application in the XTWIP showcase (by carefully mentioning that you are the creator).
    The scope is not to repackage your application into a new product, but mainly to offer other developers the possibility to see more collaborative applications in action, as our belief is that web should be far more collaborative than it is today.
    Thank you for your question,
    Cristian Andreica
    co-founder XTWIP
