Gripe about Camera Raw Update & Adobe in General

I love what Adobe products do, but hate the rigamorale you have to go through to get them to work.
I bought a new Canon T2i and it wasn't supported.  So I tried updating.  The Adobe Application Updates manager doesn't work.  I then tried the installer.  It fires up the Adobe Application Updates Manager which didn't work.  I uninstalled CS5, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted and it still doesn't work.  Finally got it to work.  I found & got the zip file & replaced the old "Camera Raw.8bi" at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats.
In retrospect though I spent several hours working on this and got angrier and angrier at Adobe as my morning progressed.  I noted that this issue (updating Camera Raw) is at the top of Adobe's list of support problems.
Several years ago Netscape sued Microsoft because IE was bundled with the OS and, thus, Netscape couldn't compete on a level playing field.  One of Microsoft's counter arguments was that a user could uninstall IE.  The process was so convoluted that the judge rejected Microsoft's argument.
Getting Adobe software to work is very time consuming and convoluted.  We buy the tools for workflow productivity then have to deal with the getting them to work in the first place.  And to add insult to injury, after paying through the nose for our software, Adobe charges us for support for their mistakes.  And this is the third crash I've experienced in 6 months.  I'm a struggling, sole owner, photographer and resent the time sink that dealing with Adobe software involves.
Adobe, are you listening?  I don't think I'm the only customer ticked off at these neverending problems.
Microsoft Sharepoint Designer 2010 no longer supports ftp.  As a replacement I was thinking of replacing my Microsoft Sharepoint Designer 2007 with Dreamweaver.  After my experience with Photoshop I'm going to hobble along on Microsoft Sharepoint Designer 2007 as long as I can and hope Microsoft adds ftp to future products or a good alternative to Adobe and Microsoft exists.

The version of ACR indicated in LR's help/about is the version of the RAW engine internal to LR, and not the version of ACR you actually have installed for Photoshop.
What does CS4 / Help / About Plug-ins / Camera RAW say the version is? And are there two versions of Camera RAW listed in the About Plug-ins.
Maybe there are multiple versions of ACR installed and LR is finding an old one, or perhaps LR is opening a file that was originally opened in a prior version of ACR/LR and LR can tell this by looking at the XMP or the LR database so is warning it may not be compatible even though it probably wouldn't matter. I don't have a Mac nor CS4, yet, so can only guess.

  • Lightroom warning about Camera Raw update I already have

When trying to open a RAW picture into Photoshop from Lightroom 2.2, it is giving me the following warning:
This version of Lightoom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 5.2 for full compatibility. Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu.
Thing is, I've already installed Camera Raw 5.2. If I open up the About Lightroom window, it tells me that I'm using Camera Raw 5.2.
Do I need to put a copy of the Camera Raw plugin somewhere else than where it is?
    I'm using Lightroom 2.2, Photoshop CS4 Extended, on a MacPro w/ Leopard 10.5.6.

  • CS4 and Yosemite, Camera Raw update

I bought a new apple macbook with Yosemite, I installed Adobe CS4.
    All good so far.
But when i wanted to install the Camera Raw update Adobe refused.
How can I install the newest Camera Raw?

You can't. The last version of Camera Raw supported by CS4 was 5.7, which is still worth having.
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh
You can use the latest version of DNG Converter. Set its Compatibility preference to Camera Raw 5.4 and later, and duplicate folders of raw files to DNG files, which can be opened by Camera Raw 5.7 running on CS4.

    hi
may i ask  about the future cs6 camera raw update ?
will be update it ? and for how many times
i mean is there a timeline for cs6 camera raw updates

This is a user to user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.
Also the Camera Raw Forum may be a better place for the question.

I am not sure that you will be able to. XP-64 was never supported in any version of PrPro. Some got later versions to run, but most usually had some issues.
You might do some research on DirectX, to see which versions were supported by XP-64. That OS, though providing beta-testing for 64-bit OS's to come, was essentially an evolutionary dead-end. It was completely replaced with Vista-64. Again, some users had issues with Vista-64 and later versions of PrPro, than yours. You might have better luck, trying Win7-64, but that is just a guess.
    Good luck,

  • How download cs5 Camera raw update and how make Photoshop the default in the Bridge "open" menu?

Two problems  which have defeated me.
First, I have a new Canon  EOS 500D  and need to download the  recent  (July  2010) CS5 Camera Raw update. However both of my computers freeze when I move from the Adobe Support web page to the Download web page.  Is this a known problem? What to do about it? I am using CS 5 on a Windows 2007 XP computer.
Second, (probably related to the first)   opening a file in Photoshop is not listed among  Bridge's  "OPEN AS" options. Also,  the "OPEN"  Default is "PAINT". How do I set Photoshop as the "OPEN"  menu  default?
Thanks for your suggestions. I am truly befuddled by these  issues.

Sounds like something is really wrong with your computer, and it isn't clear what, but if you're just having issues getting to the download link for ACR:
Here is the download page for ACR 6.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4728
Here is the download page for the CS5 12.0.1 update:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4733
If those links don't work, you can probably find the same updates on the FTP site, although some things here are more than a decade old:
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/
See if Bridge and ACR are any happier after installing these two updates.  Make sure you run them as Administrator.
If those still don't work for you, try another browser, where Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Google Chrome should all work.
    http://www.microsoft.com/ie
    http://www.firefox.com/
    http://www.google.com/chrome
There are numerous other browsers, as well, but they probably won't work if the above three don't.
Perhaps you either have a virus that you should scan for, or over-zealous internet-protection software that you could try disabling temporarily.
My favorite free virus/malware scanner is from www.MalwareBytes.com
The payfor version will automatically update itself and scan, but the free version works just as well except you have to manually update and scan.

  • Camera Raw update in Elements 11

Camera Raw update in Elements 11
I have installed Camera Raw 8.3 in Elements 11 to use RAW files from Canon EOS 70D
However when checking the about in Elements 11 it still says installed version is 7.4 and it will not open RAW files from camera.

I know nothing about Photoshop Elements. But, according to this list, Photoshop Elements can only work with Camera Raw through version 8.0.

  • Photoshop 12.0 Camera Raw Updates never download. Any ideas?

Trying to download the Camera Raw update for Photoshop 12.0.  No matter how many times I quit and re-try, the updates download but never complete the installation process.  This is common to all my Adobe products, so I'm guessing it's the updater. In the progress bar I can see the downloads taking place, but at the end of the process the updater gives me the message> " [product name]. There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
No amount of quitting and restarting etc has any impact.
I would prefer not to have to uninstall lightroom etc so I've held off doing that in the hopes there's an easier way.
Is this just me or do others have this problem too?
    Photoshop 12.0
    iMac early 2014 3.4Ghz, 8GB RAM, OS 10.9.5.

I’d suggest posting this sort of issue in the Downloading and Installing forum: https://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup
I’ve seen Adobe support people respond to things in that forum during daylight hours in the US, or you might try just starting a Chat session indicating you’re having issues installing Elements (or maybe Photoshop) by going to adobe.com, clicking on Menu then choosing Learn and Support and jump through the hoops to narrow down what you’re having an issue with, then click Still Need Help and choose Chat.
The Adobe Camera Raw forum is for the PS plug-in and perhaps general raw-decoding questions not specific to a product.
Not for either Lightroom or “Photoshop 12” issues.  By “Photoshop 12” do you mean Photoshop Elements 12 (PSE12) or Photoshop CS5 which is also known as Photoshop 12?

  • Problem with Camera Raw update in Elements 11

I need to update the raw plug-in in elements 11, but when I go to the update section, I just keep getting an error message (which says server busy or might be prevented by firewall).  I suspect that my firewall is stopping the updates, but I don't know how to over-ride this.  Can anyone explain it please?  (I have managed to 'allow' certain things on the firewall, but for this update, I don't know what I'm looking for to 'allow'!

  • Camera Raw updates Date Taken in JPG Files

    Hi,
I have CS6/CR 7.2.  I have had this issue where my file dates became changed (8000 odd files) so I had to restore 23000 files from backup .
When investigating trying to find out what happened.  when I open a JPG from Windows Explorer, photoshop is set to use Camera Raw for jpg files on open (ok).  If I cancel the dialog, nothing happens (ok).  If I click Done or Open Image, the file itself has the "Date Taken" time updated - 7 hours ahead of the original correct time.
This pretty much matches the date issue I have on the 8000 files.  Is this expected behaviour?  Why would Camera Raw update Date Taken and did it choose 8 hours because I am in the PST timezone (GMT-8 or currently GMT-7 with daylight savings)?
I have reproduced this on 4 or file random files - taking copies and comparing afterwards.
    Thanks!
    Mark.

Camera Raw writes your JPEG files back out with updated metadata no matter what settings you choose, because Adobe feels they understand the format of metadata in the files well enough to be confident they will not corrupt the files.
I've asked them for years to avoid doing that, to no avail.  I don't want my original files re-written.  It sounds as though you are of a like mind.
It is for this reason that I *never* open a JPEG file through Camera Raw.
It's possible there is a time zone problem or something, but that's not the point.  What, specifically, is corrupted is less important than Adobe believing it's okay to write back to your JPEG files.  That you have actually seen something corrupted is testament to it not being unfounded paranoia.
Generally I'm supportive of Adobe's design decisions, but absolutely not on this issue.  All I ask is that Adobe honor the "keep settings in the central database" preference choice for ALL input files, not just those for which they would otherwise write an XMP file.  I don't think it's too much to ask.
By the way, you might want to visit the Camera Raw-specific forum and make note of your issue there:

  • Apple Camera RAW updates without iPhoto or Aperture

I couldn't find a place where this really fits so I am placing it here.
I recently got a Nikon D90 and I take pictures in RAW format. I do all my editing in Adobe products so I have not bought Aperture or upgraded iLife. To be able to view the D90's files in CoverFlow and QuickLook requires the camera raw 2.3 update. However, you cannot install the update without Aperture 2 or the last year's iPhoto. This wouldn't be much of an issue since I don't generally sort my images in the finder, but every time I opened a folder with any raw files in it I would get frequent quick look errors popping up and the Finder would crash.
I fixed it by downloading the Aperture 2 trial so it would allow me to install the update...but it's ridiculous that I should have to have jumped through hoops to get the update installed.
Apple: Remove the iPhoto/Aperture requirement on RAW updates!

Well, my updates install without a problem.
"Camera RAW update" comes from Adobe and has absolutely nothing to do with iPhoto or Aperture.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4364
Apples, "Camera RAW Compatibility update" should install without a problem.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/digitalcameraraw compatibilityupdate25.html
The only time when I had a message "... not required..." was when I attempted to install the update while it was already installed.
Two things to consider would be; one, that the Apple's update doesn't work 100%.
It claims to provide RAW compatibility for Canon 50D, and yet the sRAW 1 and 2 don't show up in quickview or as icon preview (the full size RAWs do) - so maybe there's a similar issue with your camera.
Second, (if indeed iPhoto is needed to be installed - which I doubt, as I don't have it), extract iPhoto from your Leopard disc, install it, install the Compatibility update and then trash iPhoto.

Try the easiest way first:  simply select the Updates menu item in Photoshop's Help menu.
You want to be on version 6.7 of Camera Raw.
If for some reason the auto updater fails, you can download the updated plug-in and install it yourself by following the instructions on the download page, here:

  • Camera Raw update for Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000

    Hi.
I have Elements 11 and need to update it to open .raw files shot with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000. I can't find the link where I can download the camera raw update.
    Can you please help me?

    Hi,
The FZ1000 requires camera raw 8.6 which is NOT compatible with PSE 11.
You will need to upgrade to PSE 13 or use the DNG converter.

  • Camera RAW update for Nikon D3300

I recently purchased the Nikon D3300 - I use PS CS5.1 and do not plan on upgrading right now -  problem is that it won't open RAW files for the D3300 and I can't seem to find the correct update for Camera RAW to be able to process them  - anyone have a link for the correct upgrade ?

There is no update. You can only use the free DNG converter. That's just the nature of the thing: New camera = new Raw format = new version of ACR required = newer version of PS.
