Groove template in Logic X broken?

How do I get a groove template that I have created in the region inspector to show up in the piano roll editor? This happened automatically in Logic 9. Create it in the region inspector, use it, and it would then be one of the options in the piano roll for using in other regions. But not anymore. Unless there's something I'm missing?
Another reason to stay on Logic 9?

  • Moving groove templates from 9 to X

    Right now you can't create a groove template in Logic X for whatever reason (see this post).
    So, In the meantime, since making groove templates does work in Logic 9—how do I import a Logic 9 groove track into Logic X? I'm sure it's as easy as moving a file somewhere, but I have no idea about the directories.

    Hi, vmorse. Assuming you have an OS X-native application in which you'd like the pictures to open, all you need to do is drag and drop the icons of the pictures onto the icon of that OS X application. Or you can open the application by double-clicking on its icon, and then open the files from within it using the Open... command in its file menu.
    In OS X, to change the application in which the files will open when you double-click them, select an image file or files in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and choose the desired application in the Open With... pop-up menu in the Get Info box. If you want all files of the same type to open in the same application, click the Change All button below that menu.

  • Logic X crashes when trying to create groove template

    Hi,
    I've been trying to create a groove template from a small audio loop, but Logic consistently freezes and doesn't respond when i try and do this... im on Logic X 10.0.5.
    Thanks
    Chris

    Here's a workaround until this is fixed:
    Groove Template from Audio Region
    1. Select Audio Region and activate Flex Time, select slicing, leave quantise off
    2. Double click audio region to open editor,  leave in Track mode
    3. Manually Add Flex markers at all the transients
    4. Switch to Flex Pitch mode (this can be done from the Audio Editor window you are in)
    5. Still in the Audio editor go to the Edit menu and select ‘Create MIDI Track from Flex Pitch Data’
    6. Close the edit window, select the new MIDI region and choose ‘Make Groove Template’ from quantise menu

  • L9 does not show my MPC (and other) Groove Templates?!

    hey all
    When i open a project from L8 (that had all my groove quantizes on it) in L9, they do not show
    any ideas?

    OK, open a new blank project in the arrange page, If you have a standard temple, pull this up. Go to the media browser and select one of the files to be converted, do this one at a time ( i.e. MPC then ASQ etc. )
    Pull the file onto the arrange page on an instrument channel, select the whole thing, go to the top of the inspector window, at the top you'll see quantise, scroll down till you see "make groove template" and select it.
    Now if you've done it right the grooves should appear in the quantise window at the top of the piano roll window.
    Step 2: Select the midi part you've just converted to grooves, Right ( cntrl ) click/pack folder. On the channel it's sitting on, select it to be no output, lock the channel ( View/ configure track header... protect, when the padlock appears in the track thing at the side click the padlock, it'll turn green )
    repeat as above till all the grooves appear in your quantize.
    Step three, save as template, save as Autoload.logic ... overwrite.
    This will now be permanent for all of your new projects.
    Happy days.

  • Groove lost in Logic?

    Hi,
    A quick question about different grooves. What made the Linn series MPC's and Emu SP series so exciting and original was the groove they had which, when played, fluctuated in bpm by about .5% up and down and was not tied to any "Grid", so to speak.
    What I'm wondering, is why Logic will not record MIDI from these machines and record all these wonderful nuances? Or maybe it can and I'm not seeing it? I was recording a Linn MPC3000 this week and the notes were bang on the grid, and the tempo was the same throughout.
    I've been able to record the grooves successfully in PT (i know, crazy right?) but is there a way to get Logic to faithfully reproduce these nuances? That way, I can create Linn groove templates, you know what I mean? Or am I being a nal?

    So are you saying that because Logic is the slave, the grid will be relative to the tempo coming from the Linn? I don't think this is the case since I'm able to line up any given audio instrument using the grid. This isn't really what I'm looking for. I would prefer to have the on/off occur at the exact time (-the speed of MIDI) that they go into Logic.
    I want a clear and accurate "groove" as its coming from the Linn (yes Roger, hats off to your feel, no pun intended).
    And yes, I have tried with the SP and the same happens. I was just wondering whether these groove templates can be harnessed but I'm afraid Logic (as great as it is) doesn't perform on that level even though beasts like my old Atari ST would track and accurately represent the notes, albeit at a 64th note interval and a tempo fluctuation of +/-0.5. LOL.

  • Groove template from MIDI region inspector copy to piano roll

    How do you do this? in logic 9, it just happened. In logic X, I can make as many groove templates from midi regions as I like in the inspector, but how do I get them to show up in piano roll so that I can make apply them in varying dgrees to other regions?
    I asked this question a few months ago and no-one responded. Am i the only one who can't figure this out?

    Select Audio Region
    Click on the Show Flex Mode button
    Select Flex mode from drop down selector in the track header..... (Change from Auto) and Quantize functionality in Region Inspector will reappear.

  • Is it possible to have a Groove Template show up globally, i.e. in the menu

    Hi All,
    I've been creating custom groove templates and would like to have these templates show up in every song automatically, is that possible? I'm thinking it's not but should ask anyway,
    thanks,
    t

    You need to copy the regions that make up the groove templates to every project.
    What you can do is copy the regions to a new project and pack those tracks into a folder and/or hide the tracks. Set the regions as groove templates...
    This can now be saved as a template and every time you open that template the groove templates will show in the Quantize menu.

  • Trying to modify the new nanokontrol template for logic 8

    hi folks,
    I'm using Logic Pro 8, and I just got a Korg nanoKontrol. I installed the plug-in that Korg put out last month, and it works great, execept I want to change one thing. I never use the Cycle Mode button, but I use Undo all the time when I screw up a take and want to start over. I would like to change the Cycle button to Undo, but the assignment window and learn mode aren't letting me for some reason. It looks like it should be easy and intuitive, but the obvious method just doesn't work. can anyone help me out with this, or at least verify if it is possible or not? thanks!!

    alright, I've learned that OSX commands can't be assigned to MIDI, and also discovered the 'Discard recording and return to last play position' command that does the Undo thing, only better, so I guess I answered my own question.
    in the meantime, I deleted the template and tried to reinstall it, and completely failed, but that's a whole other discussion!

  • Template UI Logic and backingbean

    Hi,
    I'm new to adf and i'm trying to build a sample project with jDevelopper 11.1.2.1.0 for my company to know if we can switch to it.
    I've go a use case to implement but i've got some issues to understand how i can do it.
    I must create a view with :
    1) a top zone with a toolbar (and other stuff)
    2) a center zone with a panel tabbed
    2.a) In the first tab, a bounded table with some columns
    2.b) In the second tab a splitter
    2.b.i ) In the first facet of the splitter a second bounded table with some other columns (but linked to the same iterator)
    2.b.ii) In the second facet of the splitter a form (to edit the data)
    3) a bottom zone with a statut toolbar.
    I've created my toolbar with a declarative component following the adf corner [079. Strategy for implementing global buttons in a page template|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/79-global-template-button-strategy-360139.pdf], my toolbar have 5 buttons (create, edit, save, cancel and delete).
    I then created a template for placing panel, and table splitter ui components with a backingbean used for binding the ui components (in backingbean scope, its' important cause the template could be on the same page with nested template tag)
    I've created a taskflow following the adf corner [007.How to cancel an edit form, undoing changes with ADFm savepoints|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/007-cancelform-savepoint-169126.pdf] for the edit form
    I created a page that inherits my template, placed the declarative component toolbar at the top, placed the two bounded datatable in the facets of the template, and finally created a normal region calling the taskflow.
    When i click on the create button, the template backing bean receive the "event" and handle it, changing a task flow parameter.... (updating the region)
    My taskflow update and show me the create form... no problem....
    But if the user is on the first tab, he sees nothing. So i would like to change the disclosed property of the showDetailItems of the panelTabbed.
    I then created a variable in the pageDef of the template that would store a boolean value if the page is in EditMode or not. (create and edit is edit mode. save, cancel and delete is not)
    I created a contextual event to listen when that variable change, like that a datacontrol from a bean with a single public method could handle that change :
    onIsEditModeChanged(boolean newValue){
     getGUI().swicthShowDetailItem(newValue);
    }The method try to get the backingbean of the template (with a el expression), and then call a updatePanel(Boolean newValue) for changing the disclosed property of the showDetailItems :
    public BackingBeanTemplate001 getGUI()
     FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
     ELContext eLContext = context.getELContext();
     ExpressionFactory expressionFactory = context.getApplication().getExpressionFactory();
     ValueExpression createValueExpression =
     expressionFactory.createValueExpression(eLContext, "#{backingBeanScope.backingBeanTemplate001}", BackingBeanTemplate001.class);
     return (BackingBeanTemplate001)createValueExpression.getValue(eLContext);
    public void swicthShowDetailItem(Boolean newValue) {
     if (newValue) {
      if(!showDetail2.isDisclosed()){
       showDetaill1.setDisclosed(false);
       showDetaill2.setDisclosed(true);
    }Here's my issue :
    When the onIsEditModeChanged method is called the backingbean of the template doesn't exist in the context.
    So adf create a new instance of it but doesn't fill the ui component references of the page so i can't change the properties cause i get a NPE.
    of course showDetail2 and showDetail1 have their binding property set :
    <af:showDetailItem text="showDetail1" id="pt_sdi1" stretchChildren="first" binding="#{backingBeanScope.backingBeanTemplate001.showDetail1}">
    And
    <af:showDetailItem text="showDetail2" id="pt_sdi1" stretchChildren="first" binding="#{backingBeanScope.backingBeanTemplate001.showDetail2}">the backingBeanScope.backingBeanTemplate001 is referenced in adfc-config.xml :
    <managed-bean id="__5">
         <managed-bean-name>backingBeanTemplate001</managed-bean-name>
         <managed-bean-class>org.darkink.test.backingbean.template.BackingBeanTemplate001</managed-bean-class>
         <managed-bean-scope>backingBean</managed-bean-scope>
    </managed-bean>If i put a button IN the template that change my attribut value :
    public void switchAction(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
             BindingContext bindingContext = BindingContext.getCurrent();
             DCBindingContainer bindingContainer = (DCBindingContainer)bindingContext.getCurrentBindingsEntry();
             AttributeBinding binding = (AttributeBinding)bindingContainer.getControlBinding("isEditModeAttr");
             binding.setInputValue(true);
    }I dont have the NPE, at the "JSF Invoke Application" the bean already exists in the context (it is created at the "JSF Restore View") and all the ui component are NOT null.
    BUT if a place my button in the page that inherits the template and i call that method :
    public void switchAction(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
             BindingContext bindingContext = BindingContext.getCurrent();
             DCBindingContainer bindingContainer = (DCBindingContainer)bindingContext.getCurrentBindingsEntry();
             DCBindingContainer bcPtb1 = (DCBindingContainer)bindingContainer.get("ptb1");
             AttributeBinding binding = (AttributeBinding)bcPtb1 .getControlBinding("isEditModeAttr");
             binding.setInputValue(true);
    }everything works the same BUT at the "JSF Invoke Application" the bean doesn't exist in the context (so adf create it, BUT doesn't fill the ui component bindings).
    The strange thing is that at the "JSF Restore View" the backingbean is well created and filled with the ref of the ui components....
    So here's my questions :
    1) Why there is a difference when my button is on the template and when it's on the page ??? (with the backingbean)
    2) Why the backingbean is not fully created (only the constructor is called and not the ui components bindings)
    3) How can i realise my use case ?
    4) Is there another method to implement UI Logic with template ?
    5) Is there a better way to do this ?
    6) How to get the context of the template ?
    Thanks a lot for all of you who had the patience to read all of this, i know it's a lot
    but i didn't know how to explain my problem without all thoses explanations.
    I've read all the adf corner and all the given pdf books on the site (that i've found) trying to search for a solution and
    didn't find one. So please don't tell me read the books, or the solution is already documented...
    It would be a lot more helpfull to explain me why it's not working or why what a did is not a good solution.
    Sorry for my poor english too.
    Thanks a lot....
    Angle
    P.S 1:
    In the swicthShowDetailItem method i've tried to change for using this :
    if (newValue) {
     RichShowDetailItem c = (RichShowDetailItem)getComponent("pt1:pt_pt1:pt_sdi2");
     if (!c.isDisclosed()) {
        ((RichShowDetailItem)getComponent("pt1:pt_pt1:pt_sdi1")).setDisclosed(false);
        c.setDisclosed(true);
    }It's working... but ugly and not efficient... so for me it's not a good answer....
    P.S 2:
    Another solution that i've found is that i could create an hidden button on the template
    that call the change event and in the page create a button that queue a click event
    on that button but for me it's not a solution.
    P.S 3:
    I dont like a JavaScript solution neither. for me, if a can bind my ui components to a backingbean
    i want to be able to use them !!!

    Hi,
    There will not any performance issue as such as all the code will be executed by the same Dialog workprocess in the application server.
    But it is alwys good to keep you flow logic and application logic seperated, so flow logic just calls the methods and the methods are in a different component like a static method of a class or function module in a function group.
    Best thing is Function Group as you can have screens in a Function pool.

  • Iphone TouchOSC template for Logic (includes all necessary files)

    Hi Ya'll,
    I had been looking for TouchOSC templates for LogicPro for a while. Since I didn't find any that were useful to me I put one together myself. Now I want to share it with anyone who needs basic track control in Logic.
    The zip file contains 3 files necessary to get the template to work:
    1. OSCulator file - necessary for routing and translating messages from TouchOSC to Logic. That file needs to be opened in OSCulatior.
    2. Logic Key Commands file - needs to be imported into Logic. It contains definitions of the functions contained in the TouchOSC template.
    3. TouchOSC template file - this file is the template itself and needs to be loaded into TouchOSC on iphone (i presume this will work on ipod touch as well but don't have one so I couldn't test it).
    The zip file is located at:
    http://methodsunltd.com/touchOSC/Logic-BasicTouchControl.zip
    Hope this becomes useful to all who wanted to control basic and what I think most useful controls in Logic.
    Cheers,

    yeah, I love touchOSC as well, especially it's streamlined aesthetic! But just like you, I wish Apple developed Logic control surface apps for iphone and ipad. The moment they do I'm getting an ipad.

  • Trying to save a template in Logic??

    Hi all, I've been trying to save a new template and it's not happening. I've gone to 'Save as Template" but when I try to save this pops up 'please choose a location in the template folder or one of it's sub folders'. Ok so I go to Library>Application Support> Logic> Project Templates and press save...same message 'Please choose...). The other quirky thing is my old templates folder (my Templates) isn't in the project folder either, however the templates show up when I select new project in Logic. So the question is 1 do I have an alias templates  folder somewhere ( I haven't knowingly created one) and 2 how do I locate, I've tried typing the exact names of my templates in spotlight but to no avail. Many thanks

    Hi
    Templates saved by the user usually need to be in
    <User>:Library:Application Support:Logic:Project Templates
    It seems that Logic will not let you save templates into the 'Main' Library
    Note that in Lion, the User Library is hidden by default, so Spotlight will not necessarily find files in there. In the Finder, you can use the Go menu with Option to access the User Library. You can then add it to the Sidebar in the Finder window for future (easier) access. You could also make the User Library folder permanently unhidden using Terminal.
