Group addresses

I am trying to migrate to Mail from Claris Emailer and one of the main reasons I use CE still is its easy group address feature.
I am wondering how to get a group of 63 work-related addresses that I use rarely, (I have several such groups n my CE Address book but this is the largest) only some of which have names attached, into Mail efficiently. I am not thrilled about having to input them all separately - especially since I do not know all the names. I am also not thrilled about having to see all these addresses (in CE I have them hidden). I know how to add Notes to create Smart groups - but that is just more inputting!
How can I deal with them in Mail/Address Book efficiently and can I only see them when I want to?
Also, I find Mail's Address Book often shows me more info than I would like with my primary correspondents. Can I not set one email address as the default so that that is the one showing up in the panel or in the autoaddress drop down - with the others hidden until bidden in some way? (Again, like in CE). Natually, I need to keep all addresses on file to make sure mail from them is not filtered into my spam folder whenever they use an non-default address).
Thanks for any tips or any add on software recommendations that might make Mail more CE like!

Thanks Austin - you have answered some questions for me that will help.
But I hope that Mail's developers will heed my suggestion(s) and make customizing Addressbook so that it can contain hidden addresses a priority. It is a very useful feature and would really help make Mail more useable! I believe that in Appleworks Database module, you could also hide entries.
Here's another example:
I have a Trisha J. and a Tricia that I only send mail to occasionally. In CE their addresses are hidden so I don't always have to scroll past their names when I want to send to a frequent addressee: Trisha S., who in mail always comes in third when I type Tri....
Does anyone know of a script that might help me get closer to CE?
Thanx!

Use BCC.   That's blind carbon copy.   And copy paste the address into the BCC field.  It really depends what e-mail program you use how to enable BCC.

  • Unable to send email as a distribution group address

    Hi
We have a user who is a member of three distribution groups in exchange server 2010. He is able to send emails changing his “from” address to two of the distribution group addresses but not the other.
This is the error message received “You can't send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so. Please make sure you're sending on behalf
of the correct sender, or request the necessary permission.”
    Can anyone assist
    Thanks

    Hi Esky,
Please make sure it has necessary permission assigned
    Please try deleting addressbook
Close Outlook and delete the Offline Address book folder(s) under "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook \Offline Address Books\" (Assuming your OS is Windows 7)
Please check this for details. It is a similar thread http://exchangeserverpro.com/forums/exchange-server-2010/536-exchange-2010-outlook-2007-2010-send-issues.html

  • Can't enter email group address in iPhoto

I just purchased new iMac with Yosemite. Now I can't use a group address to e-mail photos plus I can't add CC addresses.

Do you have set the iPhoto "Preferences > General" to "Email Photos using iPhoto"?  With this setting I am seeing the same, the name of the Group vanishes, as soon as I press "Enter". It looks like iPhoto were not possible to retrieve the group from Contacs.  It looks like a bug to me. The handling of groups changed in Yosemite and perhaps iPhoto's update for Yosemite does not include this new method.
With the setting "Preferences > General > Email Photos using Mail" however, iPhoto will open "Mail" app instead and in that case the group will  be expanded and works.  Mail.app also has stationary for mailing photos. You can show it from the toolbar with the "Show stationary" button.
    So, as a work around,
Either  use Mail.app as mail client from iPhoto with the setting "Preferences > General > Email Photos using Mail",
Or make a detour. First Share the photos from iPhoto to yourself using your own email address and iPhoto's stationary, and then use the command "Message > Redirect ⇧⌘E" in Mail to forward the iPhoto mail to the group.

  • Mail does not suppress group addresses

  • Group address - size limit

I have a reasonably small group address - just about 16 names. But mail program will not allow me to add any more names (& addresses) to it. Is there a limit on the number of words (characters) in a group address? I read comments from people who have school groups, church groups, so I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions?
Another problem - if I include the group addresses with other addresses in my "To:" box, it gives me a message saying that there is a problem with some addresses. By trial and error, I have found out that the name of the group - e.g. "Sewing" - needs to be deleted and only the ladies' names & addresses can be in the "To:" box. I also have to delete the at each end of the address. Thanks

    Austin,
Sorry - I should have been clearer.
I am referring to composing emails in the .mac mail program. I have no problems with the Mail Program - Version 2.1.
There is no option to turn off "When sending to a group, show all member addresses" in the .Mac mail prog. I use this program whenever I am away from home in WI, and as you have probably seen from my profile, I am often in Tralee. I also travel to Michigan on a regular basis, so I use my .Mac mail a lot. I know this prog. has been improved immensely lately, with the email address recogniton feature(getting away from the meagre 10 quick addresses), so I thought the group address feature might be improved also.
Thanks anyway for your advice and maybe someone else has had my problem with .mac mail group addresses.
    Regards
    Geraldine

  • MAIL: Can send group addresses Bcc

I have Bcc activated and when I try to put Group addresses in the Bcc area they won't go but immediately go to the "To" area. Can't get Group addresses in "Bcc" address area. Thanks.

*Hi paul, Welcome (Back)* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
In the "To" Box put yourself.
You should be able to put the Group in BCC then.
    Good Luck, JP

  • Printing OE GROUP Addresses

How do I print my OE GROUP addresses? I was able to print the single, individual names, email addresses etc. from the my OE address book by doing File-Export Contacts and saving them on the destop, then opening that and printing it, but that process completely ignored any Groups of contacts. Even when I double clicked on a Group in the Address Book to open it, doing File-Export Contacts simply copied all the Individual contacts once again, and ignored the groups altogether. Help!

These are mosly old addresses and old groups. The groups just suddenly appeared empty. I re-dragged the contacts and sent some mail. The next time I tried to do this, the group was empy again. I just loaded the groups again from v-card from my lap-top. I deleted the old groups first. One group gave me lots of trouble in that I couldn't delete it at first.

  • Group address from Address Book not sending in Mail 2

I just upgraded from Panther to Tiger, and also upgraded to Mail 2 in the process.
I discovered some of my old group addresses held in Address Book would no longer link into my emails. When I selected the group name and clicked the To button in the Address Book panel, the group name would appear in the email To line. But when I saved the email and later reopened to send it, the group name would no longer be there.
After much head scratching I worked out the problem was with full stops being included in some of the group names.
Remove the full stops and problem goes away.

    Janice Fisher wrote:
I am having the same trouble but only with groups.  I cannot get them to work in email
hi...In a new email, just start typing the name of the group in the To, Bcc or whatever, and the full name of the group will show up to choose, choose that name, then hit return and all the names pop in.
    no dragging and dropping, sad.
or, in a new email, click 'addresses' icon at the top of the e-mail (i customized my email top bar to add this in. you can do this by right clicking on the tool bar. As you can see I have added several things)
Or that addresses man icon is at the top of the messages....and open that, then choose the group, then click in the name/list area of all the names and select all the names by doing command-A, then choose to click the button at the top left of the Addresses window: to, bcc etc
As you notice, only the topmost e-mail address, if you have several for a person, will be chosen....to that is different too....could be good, could be bad. I guess one has to rearrange all the addresses to that the top most one is the one you really want to send to
    oh boy
The only use I see for Address Book, now called Contacts, it ot put the addresses, and to mail one at a time a contact. cant just drag in addresses like before, that i see.
btw, do you happen to be the Janice Fisher from Scotland?

  • How do you send an email to group address with Maverick OSX?

Installed Maverick 10.9.2 and have problem sending emails to Group address's. I can add each reciepent one ata time but can not get the one click Group address to load like I could with OSX 10.7. Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for replying. I did a poor job of explaining my problem. With OSX 10.7, Sending mail from my Mac Pro I was able to add multiple groups to the send line. Using OSX 10.9 I can only add one group, it does not allow multiple's.
I tried the CC  line as well as BCC  to no avail.
As far as one click, I prefix all groups names with a key double character to keep them together. Now I can type that key characters on the Send To line and bring up the list of groups to select from ( my one click reference).. I use a double ZZ. After selecting the first group, keying ZZ quickly allows subsequent groups etc. to include in the same email. It worked with 10.7, not in 10.9?
Rather time consuming, having to send each group the same email one at a time.
    Again appreciate your reply.

  • Has anyone had an issue with group addressing in OS X 10.9 Mail

Has anyone had an issue with group addresses in Mail after installing Mavericks?  Both my MBP-15 and my Mac Pro stopped automatically filling in the addresses when I typed the name of the group that I have in Contacts, after updating to Mavericks.  Prior to updating they worked just fine.

    Hi,
I just found these work arounds.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5490015?tstart=0
The first is appropriate if you want to send as an undlisclosed resicpient. The second method shows all addresses.
