Group change photo description??

Maybe the editing tools improved in this App but the Photo organization certainly did not.  I like to add a description to a group of photos i.e. "Yellowstone Park"  It only lets you add description to one photo at a time.  Without "Events" I have hundreds of Albums. Being able to search descriptions would let me combine some albums.  Obviously something that will be added in the future.   Just an observation...  Apple is spending huge effort to trim down their OS X applications to match the IOS format.  Why not upgrade the IOS apps to work like the OS X???

I like to add a description to a group of photos i.e. "Yellowstone Park"  It only lets you add description to one photo at a time.
You could try several things:
You can add keywords to several selected photos at once, perhaps in some cases a keyword will suffice instead of a batch assigned description.
If your photos have GPS assigned, all your Yellowstone photos should be in a Moment or Collection of photos taken in Yellowstone National park. Then you can select the photos in he moments.
You could search for the date range, when you have been in Yellowstone with a smart rule.
Or try to batch change using an Apple Script or Automator workflow.  I posted a few simple scripts as a user tip:
Photos for Mac: Batch Change the Descriptions
Batch Changes in Photos for Mac:  Change the titles to a Given String
Try the scripts first on a small selection of test images, if you want to give it a try. And not without having a backup of your Photos library.

  • Change a group of photos to meet length of audio

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how to change a group of photos' length to meet the length of an audio clip? I know that you can individually change each photo length but I need help with selecting a group of photos and making them all fit the length of a music clip.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

You may want to try to repair your iPhoto Library.  Errors may have crept in.  Back up you library first.  Hold down the option and command keys when you start iPhoto.  This will bring up repair options.  Try the first two or three, one at a time, and see if it helps.
You may also want to check out the iPhoto Library Manager App.

  • I changed the description on 125  photos, though when I try to drag them into a folder the old photo

I just changed 125 individual photos descriptions, though when I try to drag the photos into a new folder the descriptins revert back to the old photo #'s.  How do I get the new descriptions to follow ?

You need to follow iPhoto terms since we only know what you tell us
You say photo descriptions but it sounds like you are talking about titles - Is this correct
And what are you calling folders - in iPhoto folders can not hold photos - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders
The basic default view of photo is by event (iPhoto '08 and later)
Exactly what you you trying to do? And what version of iPhoto do you have?

  • Photo description field... change font style?

I inadvertently pasted some text that was copied from a different app, and the text text had a particular font and style to it, and pasted it into the description field for a photo in iPhoto, and then that field picked up the style of the source text, and applied universally to the description field in iPhoto.
How do I get back the default style, or do custom styling at all to the description field?

I was unable to duplicate you issue of changing the Description font. I tried copying and pasting from other documents with vastly different fonts. No luck.
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Launch iPhoto and check the Description field.

  • I made a imovie out of a group of photos and added music. When I burned to DVD on iDVD and played back the disc all of the photos were larger than the frame could accommodate and the sides were cut off. I also tried resizing from 16 9 to 4 3 and no better

I made and iMovie out of a group of photos and added music. When I burned to I DVD the pictures came out to wide to fit into the frame. I tried again by changing the size from 16 9 to 4 3 and it didn't make any difference. Would going to share to browser rather than directly to share to IDVD make a difference?

What do the photos look like if you play the movie within iMovie?  Sounds like adjusting Ken Burns would help.

  • How to back up a group of photos in iPhoto to an external hard drive

how to back up a group of photos[an album] in iPhoto to an external hard drive. not taking them out of iPhoto just backing up

If you're not taking them out of iPhoto, then you need to back up the iPhoto Library:
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • Batch Enhancing for a group of photos

    Hi,
I just took over 100 photos that all need to be enhanced similarly. I was going to use the auto-enhance feature on each one. Is there a way to use this feature on a group of photos other than going through each one individually?
    Thanks

    Valid concerns.
    ben oven1 wrote:
but wont lift and stamp lift the changes done to that photo only and so it will make the same adjustments for every photo to be the "auto enhanced" settings of photo 1, which may not be the best for photo 2?
No. Lift & Stamp of "Exposure→Default Adjustment" from a Version which has been auto-adjusted using the Exposure brick will cause the stamped Version to be auto-adjusted. This is easily tested (auto-adjust, lift, select another Version, stamp, compare the values in the Exposure brick to make sure the stamp is relative not absolute, auto-adjust the stamped Version and see if the Exposure values are changed).
I do not want to auto-enhance on import becasue I want the master RAW files to remain intact so that I can use them for detailed editing in photoshop, but when I am doing samples I want to just use a quick edited version like the auto enhance.
Raw is raw. It is not an image format, it is a data format. What you see in Aperture is an image format file which Aperture creates from your raw files. You should test this as well: import two images (helpful if they are poorly exposed) and auto-enhance them as part of the import. Select them after import and "reset all adjustments". Tell us what you find out.
I am 98% certain that the processing you tell Aperture to do on import is done as a Version of the raw file.

  • Changing photos to B&W

Hi, is there anyway to change a group of photos (e.g. 100) to B&W in one go? The only way I have been able to do this in iphoto so far is go edit -> effects -> B&W for each photo individually. Any ideas?
    thanks,

  • IWeb and Aperture - Photo Descriptions - Help please?

When you drop photographs into a 'photo' page in iWeb it automatically places a title underneath the photo which is in fact the file name. I don't have Aperture (yet) but would using Aperture enable me to attach a "description to the file? If so, is it possible to include this description in the photo albums so that it appears when each image is presented in the browser? At the moment I am laboriously cutting and pasting 600 image descriptions from Lightroom and into iWeb. Surely there's a quicker way?
    Thank you in advance.

Once you get your photos in to iWeb, you can highlight the thumbnail and the description under the photo which is the file name. Once the description is highlighted, type in what you want to say. If you click in between the thumbnails a control box will pop up and you can choose how many lines you want for your description. Once the the description is typed in, highlight what you just typed, then press the command key and "C" key. That will copy what you have highlighted. Press the Tab key and it will take you to the next thumbnail and the description will be highlighted. Next press the command key and then the "V" key. That will paste the new description on the photo. Once you do the copy (Command+C) you can go through a bunch of thumb nails fast by pressing the Tab key then the Command key and V key.
Hope this is the info you were looking for. You don't need Aperture to do this...it uses the file name too unless you change it in Aperture. You can change the photo description faster in iWeb.

  • Changing photo name after downloading

I downloaded a group of photos to my computer and wanted to rename each photo. When I attempted to do so, I received a message saying "changing file name extension may make file unusable". When I did it, the photo disappeared. Why can I not change the name? I have done so in the past with no problem using a different camera.

    Hi Nancy,
Are you trying to Rename the files using Photoshop Album Starter Edition or simply from Windows Explorer. In either case, you should rename only the file name and leave the extension as it is. For example, if your file name is "file1.jpg" you should only change 'file1' and leave ".jpg" as it is. Otherwise, Windows will not be able to recognize the file as a picture file.

  • Is there a way to batch process (basic auto tone) groups of photos in Lightroom?

Is there a way to batch process (basic auto tone) groups of photos in Lightroom?

There are two ways to do this:
    1) Create a develop preset and apply it during import of images.
In the Develop Module apply the settings you want to one image and then click on the <+> sign in the Presets panel (on the left side) and save your settings under a descriptive name. In the import dialog on the right side in the panel <Apply during Import> select the preset that you created. It will be applied to all imported photos.
    2) In the Develop Module apply your settings to one image then select all the other images you want the same setting applied - but your first image should remain active - to and press <Sync>. A dialog will appear that lets you select the settings you want applied to all images.

  • Arranging groups of photos in aperture 2.1 browser

Hi, I'm having trouble reordering groups of photos. According to the getting started manual (page 75) you can select a group of photos in the aperture browser, and drag them within the browser to change the order of the photos. Doing that with individual photos works but when I try with more than one I never get the green bar that lets me drop the photos into the new location. Am I missing something? Clues? Thanks!

    Hi, Peter
It works. Select the photos regardless of order and click on the first photo and drag to the new location. The sort order will change to "Custom" and Aperture will remember the new order regardless if you later decide to sort by date...
