Group Contacts are shown in email (not hidden)

Prior to Mavericks update, when I'd send an email to a group which I created in Address Book, I had the option (I think) of making those email addresses within the group to stay hidden. BCC, if you will.
Not only did I have a difficult time choosing my group (it did not automatically fill in, nor did click/drag work), but now I'm embarrassed that all of the addresses are shown in the actual email.
I was not able to find a setting that would allow me to ensure these addresses were kept private ...
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction (and understands my question).
Thanks in advance. First time posting!

Well, I guess I'm glad it's not just me ... anxiously waiting for a fix.
Contacts are also a bit 'wonky' when it comes to choosing a person/group when composing the email. ie, when I type in "xyz group", in the past just that group or any that started with the same letters would appear and I'd select it and I was good to go. Yesterday I noticed that there seemed to be two to choose from and I dare say that one group really wasnt a group at all and the email did not go out to all of the contacts in that group.
I've attached some images to help explain what I mean ... "longaberger" is the group I'm wanting to send to.
In the first image you see I have a few choices - only those exactly called "longaberger" are what I'm looking at.
In the next image you see I've picked the first one, but notice how it appears ... it's really not a group.
In the next images I've selected the other "longaberger" and see that that is the actual group.
Thoughts? Comments? How do we make Apple aware of these issues?

    Howdy eewebe13,
So you have no cellular service but are on Wi-Fi yet iMessage and Facetime are waiting for activation.
Please step through this article for that scenario.

  • My contacts and whats app messages are shown on my sister's iphone! How can I secure my iphone and have a high level of security and privacy! Her Contacts are shown in my iphone as well!!

I have and iphone 6 with iOS 8.1. My contacts and whats app messages are shown on my sister's iphone! She have iPhone 6 and and iOS as well. How can I secure my iphone and have a high level of security and privacy! Her Contacts are shown in my iphone as well! Setting in mac and iphone are a bit presice and sensitive. Is there any way to solve my issue and increase the safety, security and privacy in my iPhone and its data?

Your problem is that she used your icloud ID to connect to icloud and thus had all your data synced to her device.  Contacts are not saved in a backup to icloud, since they are stored independently in the Contacts section of icloud.  If someone deletes them, they are gone.  If you had them on the PC would they be available in some backup you frequently make of the PC?

  • IPad Group Contacts are not appearing in itunes

I have a Group Contacts app on my ipad mini that syncs with the contacts on my iPad.  I created 4 groups.  I want to import those groups into Outlook.  I tried opening up icloud, select all, export.  Only the 1st contact in that particular group is exported.  I then deleted and reinstalled itunes and my groups are not appearing.

Have had same problem and read many different posts on the discussion boards. Came to my own sort of hybrid solution that's posted below:
    Backup address book.
Turn off syncing to iPhone within iTunes, and then hit Apply to make sure it takes.
Quit Address Book, iTunes, and basically everything.
Go to Finder > Library > Application Support > Address Book … move all folders out of there EXCEPT the Metadata folder.
Go to Finder > Library > Application Support > Sync Services … move everything out of there.
    Reboot computer.
    Open address book.
Open iTunes, connect iPhone, and sync.
NOTE:  I had to play with these steps, and their order, several times to force iTunes to properly reflect what’s in the address book/contacts, but after about the sixth time it worked.

  • My iPhone contacts are only showing email address and not telephone number

I have an iPhone 4S running OS6. For some reason of late my contacts are only displaying the email address and not the telephone number.
I have repowered the phone a number of times but the issue still persists.
Can any one tell me how to fix this ???

    Hi Kimberly,
    Try the following:
    1. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive
    2. Check where the Start New Conversation From is set to. If it's not your number, select your number.
    If the above doesn't work...
    1. In Settings > Messages, tap on iMessage to turn it off.
    2. Reboot phone and after the phone restarts turn iMessage back on.
    Hope those help!

  • IMessage - I changed the time on macbook pro and now it won't let me log in. All contacts are shown in red.

I have a macbook pro, bought new in Sept 2011.
Yesterday, I changed the date (forwarded it to 2020 - for a silly reason) and then changed it back. Now my iMessage on the macbook shows up that all contacts are offline and when I can't log in.
I've trawled through a number of the already-existing threads on this and tried a few things - in Terminal, or in Systems Prefs but can't get it to work.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks, Pádraig.

Log out or restart the computer and try again. Make sure the date is now correct.

  • Contacts are seeing my email address and not my name when texting.

Two to three days ago my 4s has started sending out text messages with my email instead of my phone number.  It is confusing when your friends do not have your email address under their contacts and they have no idea who it is.  Also, I am receiving text messages under emails instead of the contact name.  Yesterday it deleted all my contacts then put them back on.  We upgraded my Mac to Lion a couple of days ago and I do not know if their is any correlation.  I am starting to get really aggravated.
Oh and this is what I have done:
I went to messages and it is forcing me to start new messages from my email and not my phone number.

You also may have to look at your iPhone 5s too...
Settings---> Messages---> Send & Receive---> (make sure your phone number is selected) as well as the (start new convo from)
If for some reason you can't select your phone number on your phone. Follow these instructions...
    Turn off iMessages.
Click Home key Sleep/Wake key at the same time until the phone reboots. About 20 seconds or so.
Return to the iMessages and turn it back on.
After that, you should be able to select your phone number.

  • My contacts are in iCloud, but not on Mac

I made a visit to the Apple store yesterday, primarily for a battery replacement on my Macbook Pro. In passing I also mentioned to the 'Genius' that upon opening Garageband since my upgrade to Mountain Lion, I am unable to create files, or access existing ones. He suggested a new battery and an upgrade to iLife '11 which the people in the back would install.
After getting my Macbook Pro back, the battery issue was resolved, however after a quick check I pointed out that the garageband issue was not resolved.
Someone came out and said that it looked like there was a corruption on my user account, all I would need to do would be create a new user and I would be able to use garageband etc. I have since done this at home, and it works. However, this is where the problem is, as my original user contains a vast amount of data - all emails and files etc.  I still feel I need to use it... this is where you guys' help comes in!
So on writing an email today, I realised that no contacts were present in my original user. The Contacts application opens, but it is entirely blank, they do however exist in iCloud, and also in the new user. I just wondered how i might get them back. iCloud is 'on' for syncing...
Clearly there is some serious shizzle going on with my user account, I'm just not sure how I can rectify it all and still have all my data to hand...
Cheers all in advance for advice...

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Recent contact suggestion while composing email not working

Previously when I used to type an address for email, the blackberry would
    1) Show email suggestions in small boxes below the "to" field and I just had to click on them and they would be added to the email address "to" field
    2) when I started typing an address, a scroll down window would suggest the full autocomplete address (even though the contact is not saved in my contact list, but it would pick from recently sent or received emails)
both options are no longer working. only autocomplete shows the email addresses saved in my contact list
    using blackberry passport
    please help

  • My iMessages are only showing email not phone number

    Can anyone please advise?

    Hello PrestonGirl,
I found this article while researching what you are describing here, named iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage found http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5538
Phone number missing on iPad or iPod touch
If your phone number is not listed on an iPod touch or iPad, follow these steps:
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you are using on your iPhone.
On your iPad or iPod touch, sign out of your Apple ID in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID with FaceTime and iMessage.
If your phone number is still not listed, follow these steps:
Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Receive At and also in Settings > FaceTime.
Now sign in to your Apple ID on your other iOS devices.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Contacts are not available when sharing a photo stream

I've updated my iPhone to iOS 6 and have noticed when I'm trying to share a photo stream, the bulk of my contacts are greyed out and not selectable. More notably, a lot of my contacts that have iOS 6 are greyed out. What's the criteria for it being eligible to share a photo stream?

No.  I just tried and was able to address to non-iCloud users.  Not sure why yours is grayed out.  Try addressing it by just typing in the email address rather than tapping the plus sign to go into contacts.

  • Group contacts in Symbian address book (E66)

I'm getting annoyed by the fact that all contacts that belongs to any group contacts are still visible in the address book's "main tree".
I want the usual single contacts visible as they always are and contacts in groups not visible at all at the main contacts list. Contacts included in groups would only be seen in the group contact menu.
The issue is simple but little hard to explain. Contacts included in any group would not be visible among the usual contacts in address book?
Is there any workaround to solve this or any better third party contact application, perhaps?

Mail doesn't have a separate SPAM filter as such, not unless I've completely missed something. How are these emails begin marked as SPAM? Are they arriving with the word "SPAM" somewhere in the subject or body? If so, that's being added by your mail server's SPAM filter, not by Mail, so you'd have to address the issue with your mail service provider.

  • IOS 8 updated, now my group texts are green!

Can someone please help me. I have updated to the new iOS 8 and now it seems that a few of my most used group texts are now green and not blue any more. Is there something in the settings that I might need to change

    Hey toridryden,
Thanks for the question. A green message bubble indicates that your message is being sent as SMS instead of iMessage. This may be caused by a contact included in the group message that is not using iMessage (non-iPhone user). For more help on messages, check out the following resources:

  • Group contacts missing

my group contacts are missing from icloud. I have three groups mine, my husbands and business. Only mine is missing. I looked on my IMac, my cell and on icloud it is not there anywhere. Went into time machine to see if I could get them back from there and I get an error message. "“Address Book” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X." Maybe I am not using Time machine correctly. My husband has all contacts on his phone, we share the same icloud account, he is out of town so I am not able to get to his phone, not sure why he still has all three groups and I only have two. I also noticed that some of my notes are moved. Not sure if these were ones I typed on the computer or on my cell phone.
OK so now if I hit all contacts they are all there just not my specific group so I am OK I guess

There's never been a way to create a group in Contacts using the iPhone. If you sync the contacts created elsewhere, i.e. iCal, Outlook, MobileMe, the groups created there will be synced.
Even if you have only 1 group in those apps, Contacts should show a group title at the top of the contacts list, with the "+" on the right (to add contacts) a "Groups" arrow on the left (to go to the groups list). However, you can't create a new group in the phone.
My phone, synced from MobileMe, has only 1 group named (by the phone) "All Contacts". When I also sync from iCal on the Mac, a second group is created (in this case duplication).
