Group editing

Is there a way to do group editing in logic similar to how you can in pro tools?
Im trying to allign a drum session Ive done with the the grid but want to be able to keep overhead and cymbol channels in phase with the snare etc. Im aware I could highlight every region each time but this is pretty time consuming.
Is there any easier way to do this?

Yes. Simply assign all of the drum tracks to the same group. This is done from the group box, found above each fader, right above the automation settings box.
You will need to open the group settings, and enable the "Region Selection(Edit)" parameter.
Now, selecting any ONE of the drum tracks will select them all, and any cuts, edits, etc... done to one drum track, will happen on all the drum tracks assigned to that group.

LR 1.4 Question about Group Edit Capture Time

Hey guys... working my way through...
Was wondering -- when I highlight a group of files -- and then go to the Metadata Menu and choose "Edit Capture Time" -- why doesn't it change the date of all the High-Ligghted Photos?
I am obviously doing something wrong... Can someone please tell me who to di it right?

actually - i'm kinda confused.
all my images are DNG's.
All I want to do is take a group of photos I took in 2002 [that all have bad dates from different decades somehow] and correct a group of say 130 files at a time to a specific day from all the various days they are mistakenly showing in Capture Time.
But when I highlight a group of say 30 files and choose to EDIT CAPTURE TIME -- only 1 or maybe a couple of files change -- the rest stay.
iPhoto allowed me to Batch Change a group of photos from various dates to 1 single date -- but I am getting the impression LR 1.4 does not have the ability to do this.

CancelButton on Group Edit gives 404

Portal version 9.0.2.6
We are experiencing a strange error. When we are in the Edit Group page - either for creating a new group or editing an existing group - the cancel button gives a "Page cannot be found" error. I have looked at the URL associated with the Cancel button and I couldn't see any glaring errors. Its not a major issue, but I'm concerned that it is small symptom of a larger problem. And it is obviously also annoying my users. Does anyone know anything about this problem?

Our problem was resolved by following the steps in Note 234808.1 "404 Page Can Not be Displayed with Create New Groups link in Portal". The solution was to clear all caches in 9iAS and the browser, including OID, Web Cache in Global Settings, mod_plsql cache on the 9iAS Infrastructure server, AND cookies/tempfiles/cache in the browser.

Noobie Question - Group Editing Environment?

Hi All -
Logic noob here, though not new to the studio, or the Mac … if this issue has been discussed comprehensively elsewhere on this forum, please feel free to point me there … here’s what I want to do:
Import & edit 8 tracks of recorded drums as a group.
Here’s how I work: I record my drummer at his place. We mic up the kit & record 8 tracks at once to an old ADAT-XT while he listens to my scratch reference track on an iPod, then I bring them home and dump them via lightpipe to an Alesis HD24 hard drive recording unit. For editing, I transfer the track files to the Mac Mini with a FirePort.
In Logic 8, I want to set up a template to import and edit these 8 tracks as a group, do a beat map function to establish the anchor, enable snapping to either beats or bars with zero crossings locked, so that when my drummer has a “senior moment” and stumbles a bit, I can simply cut out the nasty bar(s) and paste in a good one from another location in the track.
This app has a heck of a learning curve! Way too much horsepower for what I’m doing, I know, but it is what it is – I’ve got it, so I’m gonna have to use it … any quick & dirty hints?

using groups is explained in chapter 25, page 562 of the manual. You can define the behavior of each group in the Group Settings window. One of the handiest settings is the Region Selection (edit) which means, if you select a section of the song from one track, all in the group get selected and you edit all tracks at once, which is real good for multiple drum track editing.
setting up a template is real easy. just create a song with the tracks you want and any channel strip setting, group setting etc and under the file menu choose "save as template". just open that template every time you want to work that way in Logic

Distribution group editing

I created three distribution groups for my client.
Only the first one I created appears in Outlook?
How can a user add more members to the distribution group? Can this be done from Outlook or OWA? I have not found a way.

Hi,
The three distribution groups should show in Outlook when you click your Global Address List.
I didn't have Exchange 2013, in my lab, Exchange 2010, I can manage the distribution group in the following way in Outlook.
Click New E-mail button, choose Address Book, find the distribution group and right click the
Properties, you can add members or remove members.
Note you should have the managed by permission on this distribution group.

None of the documentation I've found actually defines all of these. Create, Edit Details, view details are pretty obvious and mentioned, but nobody seems to be able to define the rest. Not apple, not the 3rd party books and vids.

ITunes 7 wont group edit Show Titles

If I select a few TV Shows, iTunes 7 will not allow me to change the Show Title. I can do it one show at a time.
Also, the Show Title field does not suuport auto-fill like all the other fields.
Plus, iTunes 7 is a dog in terms of performance. I have about 30 TV shows, 33 movies, and about 5000 songs. iTunes 6 would just load up. 7 takes forever and when it loads I get a dialog that tells me that it is loading the library.
But I do like the added features and look and feel.

Photoshop Elements 6 - GROUP (or Batch) Editing

Hello to all... I'm using one of the older Adobe software packages...Photoshop Elements 6. Does anyone know if it's possible to do BATCH or GROUP editing? For example...you bring up 12 images for correction. You apply changes to the 1st image and then wish to apply the same exact changes to the remaining 11 images. I could not find anything in their HELP files and their ONLINE support is only for Elements 10! THANKS!!! Andy in 'Historic' Gettysburg, PA, USA

It’s not possible in any version of elements, except for raw files where you can open a batch and synchronize the settings.
Adobe Lightroom 4 is the next best alternative. You can save presets and apply them on import as well as selecting and synchronizing batches.

Problem with multi take drum tracks not working with group selection editing

Ive recently tracked drums into using 7 mics and doing multiple takes layered on top of each other, the 7 takes belong to the same group and i have enabled group editing in the settings.
I think i changed the comp options at the end of the track and as a result audio tracks 1 and 2 edit between takes together fine. I.e. when i choose say take 5 with track it does the same selection for track 2.
Tracks 3-7 work in the same way fine, im just wondering if anyone knows how to get them as a complete group again so that when i choose take 5 for example on the one audio track, it will make the same selection for all of them!

I did a multi camera edit of Act 1 of a taped performance and all went well. Moved on to Act 2, which ran longer and each camera needed a tape change. So I matched the clips from each camera on each video track and tried to move on to the sync & then create a multi camera sequence stage of the project. That's when I hit a road block. I could not sync the four video tracks. So I consulted Adobe's on line help and this was all I could find about my predicament:
Note: Adobe Premiere Pro uses an overlay edit when synchronizing clips. Take care not to overwrite adjacent clips if you have multiple clips on the same track.
So what was I to do next? I found your post and now know exactly what to do. Thanks for a great explaination and saving me a lot of head scratching.
Why couldn't Adobe explain it as well?

Adding users to group www with NetInfo doesn't seem to work

I've added several users to the www group using NetInfo. As you can see, it seems to have worked:

However, when I look at what groups I belong to, www is not one of them:

Any ideas as to how I might get the addition of the group to actually kick in? The system won't let either user assigned the www group edit files with group www.

I wouldn't edit the www group if I were you. That group is used internally by OS X and meddling with it could have unintended consequenses.
I recommend creating your own custom group and adding the users you want to it. Netinfo Manager is not the easiest tool to use for this. Instead, download the Server Admin Tools from Apple and use Workgroup Manager. It makes creating custom groups a snap.

How do I restrict content provider edit rights to a single region on a page

We have a 2-level security requirement for Portal pages that are accessed by "the general public" - users that do not log into Portal. I'll call this population "The Public".
Top Level Edit Security
Web-masters need to edit all content on any page in any page group.
Sub-Level Edit Security
Content providers need to be restricted to editing HTML content within a single region on all pages within a single page group. They will use the RTE (FCKeditor) to edit the content of the restricted region.
One idea I tried was creating a nav page as a portlet and placing the portlet on the page. This seemed satisfied all the requirements. The drawback is having to create a new nav page for each page created. Since the content and pages are mostly static this does not seem, to me, to be a big deal.
I next tried Item level Security, created a group (publicusers) that included PUBLIC and ContentProvider users and granted "view" to the "publicusers" group . I found that "The Public" can see the entire page, except for the Text Item Type that is under Item Level Security. Only by turning off Item Level Security can "The Public" see Text Item Type. (This action seems to be supported in the documentation as well.)
Any other ideas on how to implement multi-level content security on pages within a page group? There will be at least 18 page groups, each with a unique content provider. The content provider can not edit content outside of their designated page group.

I would recommend creating pages for each "chunk" of content that needs specific security. Set the security at the page level.
Then, publish those pages as portlets, and stick those portlets in the regions that need "per group" edit rights. For each portlet, display the Edit link. Users who have rights to edit the portlet's source page will see the edit link, and can edit that content "in place".

How to assign a Sales Org and Product group

all the config have been maintained (creating the hierarchies/categories, assign the set types to categories etc.) under IMG->Cross-Application Components->SAP Product.
Also assigned the set type for sales data/product group for category MAT_DIEN.
But the fields from these section are greyed out when I try creating a product (not able to assign the sales org, or product group)

Create an Internal Order (T. Code: KO01) with required Field-entries in
Tab: Assignment --> Profit Center; and

I'm using excel addin version 10.0 SP07 Patch 02 .NET4 Build 7222
I have on report that on rows has an item dimension and customer dimension.
So I can see rows like this:

My first Total is using FAMILY Property.
ITEM 1 and ITEM 2 belongs to FAMILY 1 and ITEM3 belongs to FAMILY 2
So I can use Member Sorting and Groupind editing my report

A few time ago, I had the same problem and I couldn't solve it. I had a report that the rows was displayed by "EPMDIMENSIONOVERRIDE", so I couldn't use the dimension structure. I needed more than a SUM by rows to make subtotals but I only could made once, using "Member Sorting&Grouping".
In these, you can introduce a subtotal using the best property of the dimension for your report, but I think that it only allows one.
If someone knows a way to display more than one subtotal by rows, it will be very usefull for us!

Storing photos in iPhoto 6; editing using PS Elements (or Aperture)

Hi, After being away from my iMac for 2 weeks and having accumulated 800 pictures (new grand daughter) and 12 small movies, I am debating how to handle every thing. 1) before the trip, I bought PS Elements 4 because I wanted a more powerful editor. However, from various discussion groups, editing in PSE 4 and storing in iPhoto requires special handling procedures. 2) while in MPLS, I stopped in an Apple store and the experts told me a lot about Aperture. So I am wondering if I should be using PSE 4. Anyone have strong opinions either way? And how about the best way to store photos? Thanks!

If you have setup iPhoto to use PSE when you double click on a thumbnail then the edited version of the photo will be the "modified" version and stored in the Modified folder inside the iPhoto Library folder.
If you had opened that file in PSE directly from the Finder, a big NO-NO, then the original would be the edited version. If in your editing you create a layered file, which makes for great multiple versions by duplicating the base layer, you must do a Save As to the Desktop and import that file as a new entity. Then any changes, additions of layers, etc. can be made and a simple Save will suffice.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
