Group email addressing
Can someone please advise me how to enter a group into the "To" bar to send an email to a group? Double clicking or dragging and dropping of the group name into the "To" bar at the head of the email does nothing. Apple advise that you must type in the name of the group and wait for the computer to load all of the group addresses. Snow Leopard allowed group addressing by double clicking on the group name. How does this work in 10.9? Even Apple does not seem to have an answer to double clicking the name to get it to work. Nor does Mail Help explain this.
This is a bug in OS X Mavericks. I've reported it to Apple, so hopefully it's fixed soon.
That said, if you want to address an email to a group (as defined in the Contacts application) a workaround is to go to Contacts, then control click on the group, and then click "Send email to <<group name>>"

How can I see the indivduals in an existing group email address - that I created
I have a group email address on Thunderbird that I created some time ago but have forgotten how to open it up to see who is on it - I need to alter it.
Thanksclick on 'Address Book'
A sub group known as a Mailing List will be a sub group to an address book.
If Mailing Lists are not showing, click on the small arrow to the left of the address book containing the Mailing List.
See image below - example shows I have a 'Test' Masiling list as a sub group to 'Personal Address Book'
Then select the Mailing list to see who is in that Mailing List.
Removing contacts from a Mailing list does not remove them from the associated address book.
Removing them from the associated address book will remove them from both address book and Mailing list.
You can drag and drop new contacts into a Mailing List, but they do need to have a valid email address. -
How to get group email addresses in BCC on iPad?
Have recently bought iPad mini, have MacBook so synced. Cannot get group email addresses to show up in iPad addresses book, and can't get them into bcc on mail?
That is because groups cannot be added in the iPad mail app, as bizarre as that seems. That functionality does not exist. You cannot create groups in the contacts app on the iPad either. Yoy can create them in iCloud.com but not on the iPad itself. You just have to add the email addresses one at a time by tapping the blue + button and selecting the contact from the contacts window that will pop up.
There are apps that let to email to groups .....

How do I use a Contact Group email address as the sender of an email?
I want members of the contact group to be able to manual select the contact group email address as the SENDER. This, primarily, so that recipient clients can respond, if necessary, by merely pressing reply (then the entire group gets the email).
Possible?By "contact group" do you mean a distribution group? If so, you need to use one of the following the shell commands:
For Send on Behalf: Set-DistributionGroup <group alias> -GrantSendOnBahalfTo <useralias>
For Send As: Add-AdPermission<group ID>-User<user alias>-ExtendedRights'Send-As' -

Hi,
Is it possible to create Group email addresses from within Server Admin without going into the depths of Postfix aliases?
Thanks,
StuGYou can create group email adresses the unix way.
1. Open Terminal.app
2. Enter "sudo open /etc/aliases"
3. In TextEditor.app goto the line "# Put your local aliases here."
4. Type the group mailaddress without @domain.com followed by ":" then hit [TAB]
5. Now you can enter receiving users shortnames seperated by ","
6. Save the document
7. Go to your Terminal.app
8. Enter "sudo newaliases"
Example:
[email protected] and [email protected]
# Put your local aliases here.
managers: john,peter,mary

Want Firefighter to use group email address
Can Firefighter be configured to use a group email address for automated emails? I have not been able to figure this one out.
Thanks.Clark,
FF does indeed reference the user's email address from within the User Master record.
You therefore have the following options:
1. Create a dummy User ID with the generic email address maintained.
2. Assign multiple individual controllers to the appropriate IDs as then all named individuals will receive the log reports.
3. Send to a single controller and use external email delivery settings to auto-forward the emails to the required destinations.
4. Change an existing controller's email address within SU01 to reflect the generic email address required - PLEASE DON'T DO THIS though as the email address is also used by other SAP Functions and it is not good practice to deliberately mis-represent user's details.Send to a single controller and use external email delivery settings to auto-foward the logs to relevant recipiants.
You may find, depending on the SP level, that if you add an additional email address into the user master, the Firefighter notification gets delivered to both email addresses. This works in SP06 but unfortunately, the log report does not!
Have fun, Simon -
New user. Email contacts imported to MacBook pro from PC - but I'm unable to call up entire contact list or to make a group emailing contact.
Assuming you are using Apple's Mail application, contacts are managed via the Contacts application, in your application folder. As for various addressing methods, including groups, maybe this:

Group email addresses into new email
when composing an email and trying to import group from address book, I cannot get emails addresses to appear in "TO" line when typing in name of group
Hi Lynn
I assume you see the contact names in blue bubbles, which appear after you type in the group name?
If you click on any of these bubbles you will see a list of all available email addresses for that contact, a checkmark shows which one is currently being used for this email.

Has Yosemite fixed Maverick's Mail problem with Group email addresses?
Does anyone know if Yosemite has fixed the problem that Maverick's Mail program had with Contacts? Maverick's Mail program cannot show Group Address names in the email "To:" window. By default, it shows all of the email addresses in a Group rather than the Group name. The work-around requires putting Group Addresses in the "Bcc:" window. Has that problem been fixed in Yosemite?
Many thanks,
Bob WincklerHi Barney,
Just found out that Maverick's problem with Mail's Group address procedure has resulted in my email accounts being put on hold by my Internet Provider. I'm the president of a local club, and I routinely send out emails to 200+ email addresses several times a month. Since Maverick's Mail now doesn't keep Group addresses hidden when shown in the email "To:" window, we have to put those Group addresses into the "Bcc:" window. The first couple of times that I did that, the emails went through, but the third time that I tried to send out such an email, my Internet Provider shut down my email account with the statement "Your ability to send new mail has been suspended as a high volume of suspicious mail has been sent from your account recently. Please contact your IT administrator." The IT administrator required me to run a virus check and then set a new password for my account before they would reactivate it. In my discussions with several of my Internet Provideer's tech reps, it appears that the way the way that the Internet Provider has their server's security system set, a high volume of email addresses in the "Bcc:" section of emails is enough to shut down an account as suspicious. Until Apple gets this problem fixed, my only options are to switch internet providers (after finding one that will let high volumes of "Bcc:" go through) or switch to an older Mac operating system, which I've done (now using an ancient iMac 400DV running Tiger (OS 10.4.11). Given the high number of businesses, etc., likely to be using Macs, I'm really surprised that Apple has let this problem with Maverick's Mail program go uncorrected.
Best regards,

Urgent! AD connector doesn't import Group email addresses!
The AD connector does not synchronize the email addresses of Distribution groups. This is a huge error, because there are 80 groups and I cant set the email addresses one-by-one.
Strange, but users get imported with correct email addresses, only Groups don't have the email address imported.
Please help!OK Its solved. I created a new second connector, now it imports the email addresses. What can I say, this is not what I would expect from this product...

Is there a way to establish when a distribution group email address last received a message?
We currently use Exchange 2007 but are planning to migrate to 2013 soon. As part of the prep for migration I want to tidy things up, and part of this tidy up is to remove unused distribution groups.
The user community is one that refuses to let go of anything (our retention policy is keep everything, forever), so if I ask them if they still need these groups the answer will be yes for all.
So, is there any way I can pull a report of the last time the email addresses associated with these groups were used?Apart from above, once you find unused users list, You can try below steps to remove them in exchange 2007 : Simply open the group from the recipient configuration, Distribution group node (or from Active Directory Users and Computers). Select the members
tab and select the user and click the X.
You can take a look at this helpful article to gather more information about this concern : http://windowsitpro.com/exchange-server/exchange-2007-distribution-groups
Furthermore, when you are preparing to migrate database from exchange 2007 to 2013, you can have a look at this proficient resource available at (http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com/) that would also be
a fantastic approach for a secure migration of mailbox data between two exchange server. -
Using google groups email address for appleID
Hello
I want to create an Apple ID, and I want to use a google groups email account (e.g. "[email protected]") as the primary email address. The google group has been set up with high security levels (only a couple of people with owner-level permissions have access to read emails, it is otherwise not open or exposed to the public. This group was set up in my workplace for registering software and hardware purchases (apple and others) so that multiple administrators can manage upgrades and licenses, and so the administrators can change over time but have access to previous admins' emails.
When I created the Apple ID, everything seems fine but the verification email was not received by the google group. So either Apple is blocking the outgoing message, or google groups is blocking the message on the incoming side.
Does anyone know if it is possible to do what I am trying to do?
thanks
EliApple ID security issues -
Account security issues almost always require you to speak directly to an Apple representative to securely establish your identity as the account holder. You can set it up so that Apple calls you, either immediately or at a time convenient to you.
1. Go to www.apple.com/support
2. Choose Contact Support and click Contact Us
3. Choose Other Apple ID Topics and choose the appropriate topic for your issue

How do i create a group email address
how do i create a group email address
Use your Mac's Contacts application to create the group. Then you can access the group name in Mail to send messages to.
Here's some material from Contacts' Help:
Organize contacts using groups or folders
Use groups and folders (for Exchange accounts) to organize your contacts by categories, or to easily send email to several people at once.
If you want a group that adds or deletes contacts automatically based on rules you define, instead of creating a group, create a smart group. For more information, see this help topic:
Use Smart Groups
Open Contacts
HideCreate a group or folder
In Contacts, choose View > Groups, and then select an account.
Choose File > New Group, and then name the group or folder.
You can also select the contacts you want to group, and then choose File > New Group From Selection.
HideAdd contacts to a group or folder
Select one or more contacts and drag them to a group or folder.
Contacts in an Exchange account can belong to only one folder at a time. When you use folders, any contacts that aren’t in a folder you create are in the default Exchange Contacts folder.
You can create subgroups or subfolders by dragging a group or folder to another group or folder. -

How to define a mail group email address?
Hi,
I have defined several groups and would like to use them as a mail group. By the default the address is [email protected]
I have defined several virtual domains on my server that can accept mails for individual user. I would like to have the following address working [email protected]
How can I set it up as the email cannot be set for groups in the workgroup manager (It is only working for users).
I also tried with the directory utility but I can create an Emailaddress key for a group or an user but it is not taken into account by the mail server. (workgroup manager probably does more than just creating an entry on the open directory :-( )
Thanks for you help !
Frédéricgroup addresses have been broken for some time.
I've used scripts to create aliases based on a group name and its members.
Below is a script that I've used on 10.7 with users in LDAP.
Any group which has a comment of 'mail' will be turned into an alias with the proper recipients.
You'll need to run it on a schedule (unless you want to run it manually) and you'll need to modify it for 10.8 and your specific environment.
I'll try to put together a 10.8 version sometime soon...
cd /etc/postfix
# clear current aliases
echo "" > group_aliases.tmp
# Get list of groups with 'mail' in the comment field
gr=`dscl /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 -list /Groups Comment | grep mail | awk '{print $1}'`
for group in $gr
do
echo $group: `dscl /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 -read /Groups/$group dsAttrTypeNative:memberUid | cut -d : -f 3 | grep -v "No such key"` >> group_aliases.tmp
done
cmp -s group_aliases.tmp group_aliases > /dev/null
if [ $? -eq 1 ]; then
echo different
cp group_aliases.tmp group_aliases
/usr/sbin/postalias /etc/postfix/group_aliases
/usr/bin/newaliases
else
echo same
fi
exit
