I use Bento to maintain two large databases of group contacts. Mavericks will no longer allow me to copy the email address column and paste to the To: CC: BCC: in Mail as in the past. Any solutions?

So, now, open Automator, and click "Service"
Choose Service receives seleted text in Bento
Select Utilities->Copy to Clipboard
Select Utilities->Run Shell Script and enter the above command (in place or cat):
Select Mail->New Mail Message
Save
Now, highlight the email addesses in Bento, right click, and select the service you just created.
A new mail window will open, and just ⌘V

Thanks. So matters haven't changed. Ipad and iohone systems still not make use of the groups created in OSX Contacts, although one can "see" the groups synced through iCloud. They just do not function as real distribution lists in Mail.
With the Mailshot app, one creates Mailshot groups with Mailshot group name. It's as smooth as a work around can get.
Silly that Apple iOS folks never got around to connecting the contact groups now listed in iOS Contacts through iCloud syncing to also be fully functional in iOS Mail for the purpose of group emailing.

There's a functional workaround to send Group emails that takes some setup, and a copy-paste. But it's easier than any one-by-one solution cooked up without a 3rd-party app. Here's the way:
STEP ONE:
Go to Settings>General>Keyboard-->Shortcuts
Add a new Shortcut by typing in the full email addresses in the "Phrase" field, separated by comma and space; type in the few letters representing this "Phrase" in the "Shortcut" field.
STEP TWO:
In the email app, IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL, type in the letter for the Shortcut and space. Then Highlight-->Copy this text and paste it into the To: Field. (Obviously: Delete this text in email body; and use CC: or BCC: fields as desired.)
Regrettably, you CANNOT just type the Shortcut in the address fields as it gets lobbed into one address.
This "No Group Email Functionality" rates a #FAIL by Apple. One of the few.

Work Around:
On your mac:
1. Open a new email
2. Insert name of an existing group into one of the "To" fields as usual.
3. Highlight all the resulting names in the "To" entry
     [Highlight first name, and while holding shift, highlight last name and all will highlight[]
4. Copy (Command C) the highlighted emails
5. Paste (Command V) nto a pages document
6. Remove the name and anything else preceeding the first < and also the first < of only the first entry whixh will look like this:
     [email protected]>,
7. Remove the > of the last email which will look like this:
     , Jane Doe <[email protected]
8. Copy the entire altered list from the pages document
9, Go to Contact Book and click + to add a new entry
10.. Name the entry (XXX Group for iPad) or whatever you wish to call it
11. Paste all the copied altered list into any one of the email entry spaces
12. Click on "Done"
13. Create new email On iPad and click on + in any one of the "To" lines and search for "XXX Group for iPad" You cannot just key in XXX Group for iPad!!!!!!!, you must use + contact search.
14. Enter the selected iPad contact group into the "To" line.
15. All the entries will now appear in the "To" line and you are good to go.
Adding or deleting email addresses from the iPad group:
Easiest: Alter the original mac group in the usual way and repeat steps 1-14 above. It seems impossible to edit within the emai line of the iPad contact entry.
Rediculously simple once figured out.
Happy emailling, but please send Bcc so that you don't spread your groups' email addresses all over the internet for spam, viruses, and other unwanted emails. Be considerate and ask your recipients to notifiy you if they wish to be deleted from the lists you compose.

Cannot send to Distribution Group emails from outside exchange

Hi,
I have created several emails linked to distribution groups in Exchange 2007. When i email to these groups from an email hosted on the server the email goes through just fine. When I try to send to these emails from an external email address (one from hotmail or yahoo) the email is never received and I never get a message back saying anything went wrong. I am able to receive email to all normal user accounts. I know it was possible in Exchange 2003 to have group emails receive email from outside sources, as I used several group emails as logins at various forums, and received updates from them.
Am I missing some point of the setup? I have all domains open to be received from, hence why I can receive to my normal user email address. Any help would be apprecaited.

When you create any distribution list with Exchange Management Console - EMC or Exchange management Shell - EMS in 2007 by default Sender Authentication is Enabled to prevent unwanted messages from spam and from outside domain, this is by default in design...
You need to disable it to get email from outside.
From EMC: Recipient Configuration -> Distribution Groups -> Select a group -> Properties -> Mail Flow Settings -> Message Delivery Restrictions -> Properties -> Untick “Require that all senders are authenticated”

I want to send emails from the DB & i am following the steps given below ...
I have logged in as user - SYS AS SYSDBA
Step 1: Install UTL_MAIL package
To install the UTL_MAIL package, run the below files as user "SYS"
$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlmail.sql
$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/prvtmail.plb
Step 2: Set SMTP_OUT_SERVER parameter
SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET smtp_out_server=’smtp.domain.com’ SCOPE=both;
Step 3: Grant permissions +( I know this step should have been 2nd , but i don't think it will be a problem)+
Grants the execute permission on UTL_MAIL privilege to PUBLIC or the user which will use the package. Run the beow command as user “SYS”
SQL> GRANT EXECUTE ON UTL_MAIL TO PUBLIC;
Step 4: Create procedure to send email

As i fire the above command , my server shows me the query is executing for along time . I have waited for 30-40 mins ..... but no effect , no output & most importantly .... no email in my inbox....
I have also set the smtp_out_server in my init.ora file ....

Looks like there are 2 issues here.
Firstly, Gmail would require SMTP authentication (As would any 3rd party SMTP server that didn't want to be a full time SPAM relay), which neither UTL_MAIL or UTL_SMTP handle 'out of the box'. This thread has a few pointers Re: SMTP Password required
Also looks like Gmail requires SSL connections http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13287 . I found this article http://monkeyonoracle.blogspot.com/2009/11/plsql-and-gmail-or-utlsmtp-with-ssl.html that appears to have a workaround, can't vouch for if it works though.
It's all getting quite messy to set up though, as you can see. Do you not have any sort of local SMTP server that you could use?

Data level security filter to groups imported from database

The groups that a user belongs to are stored in a table in the database. How do I create a group in the rpd to define data level security filters when the group name is retrieved from the database table depending on who logs in. One user can be a part of several groups.
Please help.

I created the groups manually in the rpd first and assigned security filters to the group. The same group was created in the presentation services assigning some object level security (dashboard pages visibility). But the user picks the groups (row wise initialization) correctly and not the security filters applied to the group in the rpd. The privileges to the group in the presentation services works fine. Why is the group definition in the rpd being bypassed.

The native email app does not do groups, unless you want to add them 1 at a time. But there are a handful of apps that let you creat groups fairly easily, then you can e mail from there. I use mailshot, but there are a couple of others. Search the app store for group e mail.

We are current using Oracle Database 8.0.5. How can we send email using PL/SQL?
utl_smtp is not yet available i think for this database version? what is the alternative? How do we use/install this alternative.

Is this version not enough to run UTL_SMTP?
