Group mailing list adress

Hi, maybe this is a stupid question but I have some trouble figuring it out. I have a mail server with several domains. The domain name is set to something.com and the host name is set to mail.something.com Every e-mail user gets the mailadress [email protected] but I wanted it to be [email protected] I can set every account up manually but why am I doing wrong? It works on regular users to do this, but not on groups.

There's probably a better way to do this, mines a bit of a hack - but it works.
Under Mail->Advanced->Hosting
I just made sure that all the domains I host email for (5 of them) are listed under local host aliases and virtual hosts. This has caused some warnings in the postfix logs that I haven't looked into yet. If it's complaining its obviously not the right way, but insofar as emailing to my groups it works great.

  • How to create a group mailing list in JavaMail?

    Hello,
I've been searching through the entire API, specifically the InternetAddress class and I can't seem to find out how to create a group/mailing list. Does anyone know how to do this?
That is, I would like to be able to group a bunch of e-mail addresses together and give that group a name "my friends". Then send it off using this 'group mail address' as opposed to an array of InternetAddress[]. Then when the recipients receive the e-mail, they see "my friends" in the To: field, instead of everyone's e-mail address...
Is this possible in JavaMail? I've tried many things like creating an InternetAddress object passing in a comma-delimited list of e-mail addresses but it doesn't like it.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi:
I have the same problem. I've read JavaMail implements RFC 822 which allow mailing lists. But, how can I implement it with JavaMail?

  • I dont receive e-mails with attachment sent to OS X Server 3.0.1 Group-mailing lists

I have a small company using a mac mini with mavericks and server 3.0.1.
We are using most of the services available in OS X server (except DHCP, Netinstall and Xsan). One of the services we use the most is Mail server, and the whole company uses that as our primary mail server.
We have set up several different Groups and activated group-mailing lists on some of them. The setup has been working very good for over a year (started using it with Mountain Lion Server).
Recently I was going to send a christmas card to all employees using the workgroup mailing list. I was using the stationaries in Mail, and it was sent as normal but never recieved by me or any of the other employees. Below is the SMTP Log

I did some trial and error and it seems like it is linked to the fact that I have attachments to the email. Sending an email with only text is recieved like normal. Even attacment like PDF or jpg is "blocked" it seems. I have tried using email outside my domain but still the same result. Sending the same email (with attachment) to all reciepients (not using the mailiing list) works and is recieved by everyone. I have turned off all email filtering settings on the server but still the same result.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? My guess is that this is a Server 3.0.1 hickup, so it would be nice to get confirmation from others experiencing the same.

  • Enable group mailing list in Server.app not working

    Hello everyone,
I have been trying to enable a new (?) feature of Server.app : "Enable group mailing list". Until now, it does not work for me. When I try to send an email to the group [email protected], Mail tells me that the smtp server cannot send my message. Here is what I see on the server's /var/log/mail.log file :
    Sep 10 16:55:54 testserver01.pretendco.net postfix/smtpd[2311]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from testclient01.pretendco.net[10.1.101.10]: 550 5.1.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table; from=<[email protected]> to=<[email protected]> proto=ESMTP helo=<testclient01.pretendco.net>

It is interesting to note that group mailing list aren't even mentioned in the Mac OS X Server Advanced Administration Guide :

Does any has any good/bad experience with group mailing lists under Mountain Lion Server ? Any advice ?
    Thanks a lot !

Hello Mark23 and thanks for your help !
The log says nothing particular when I (un)set the "Enable Group Mailing List Option". The only difference I see is a line saying mail_groups[127]: sleeping for: 1 hour(s). I have no idea what this means exactly. Googling it did not help me much either.
I post the /etc/aliases file below. Interesting : every time I (un)set the "Enable Group Mailing List" option, the /etc/aliases last access time changes. But the md5 hash of the file stays the same.
I guess that the "sudo newaliases" uses /etc/aliases to construct the binary database file /etc/aliases.db ? It seems that this script is run every time I (un)check the option since the access time of *both* /etc/aliases and /etc/aliases.db are changed to the current time.
Do you have any other option checked ?
Here is my /etc/aliases (I removed the blocks of comments at the beginning and at the end):

  • Group Mailing Lists and Email Addresses

    Howdy All,
    A couple of quick questions:
    1. When a Group mailing list is created does this create an equivalent Mailman mailing list (i.e. that would appear at the Mailman list URL)? I'm not so much concerned as to whether Groups uses Mailman behind the scenes just whether or not one could "further" admin the group mailing list through the admin interface.
    2. What happens when you have a username "x", a group name "x" (which I commonly used on other Unixes) with a mailing list (implictly named "x"), and a Mailman mailing list named "x" (what was created as a Mailman mailing list in Server Admin) and then you email x@serverDNSname? Because I often use the same user and groups names this could be quite common.
Thanks for any thoughts on these puzzles.
    Cheers,
    Ashley.

I am beginning to suspect a combination problem- i.e. bad converter and bad Admin Tools.
The 10.6 Mail Admin manual states that:
+In Workgroup Manager, enable the Mailing List service for each group you want to have a mailing list address.+
+The setting is located in the Basic group options in Workgroup Manager.+
However, I no longer have these options in Admin Tools. I had them in 10.5.8, but not in 10.6 or 10.62 tools. I took a screenshot of the basic tab in WM:
    Image: !http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t69/dunkelza/Screenshot2010-01-08at81609AM. jpg!
I checked the About Workgroup Manager menu item and got "Version 10.6.2 (361.2.1)"
So it appears that the update to 10.6 not only failed to convert the LDAP settings correctly and/or map them to the mail system; but, that the update also removed my ability to see this and fix it through the GUI.

  • Enable server group mailing list

I am try to figure out why I cannot get the server group mailing list to work. I have a group called testgroup in my OD and have 4 users added to it. I restarted the server after I ticked the box "enable server group mailing list" in Mail/settings/Mailing list and when I send an email to testgroup the mail client rejects the address. What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is create a group email account.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    HI John,
The group settings in WGM SL and Leopard are different.
Yes, they are. I booted to my eval copy of SL Server and ran through the settings in WGM, Server Admin and Server Preferences; as you pointed out, all the mail list admin tools I could find are in the Mail service in Server Admin.
The only thing that may be of interest that I could find is that for the group mail list, the email address for the group is group_shortname@ServerDNSname, not groupshortname@yourdomain (this is in the Mail Services Admin Guide for 10.6). This might explain why your email to the group may have been rejected?

  • Cannot enable group mailing list

    Hi,
Running 10.5.2 server on Xserve, server acts as OpenDirectory master and Mail sever.
We have a normal mail service running fine, but trying to enable the "Mailing List" option for groups results in an error.
"Error of type eDSInvalidAttributeType (-14131) on line 733 of /SourceCache/WorkgroupManager/WorkgroupManager-319/Plugins/GroupAccounts/GroupB asicPluginView.mm"
Web service is enabled, and appears as the option for the dropdown "Enable services for this group on:", but even just choosing the server from the dropdown and attempting to save the config (without turning on any services) results in this error.
Can anyone help with what this means?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi,
In Mail service -> General -> ensure "Enable SMTP" is checked,
if you don't desire to send outgoing from clients then don't select any authentication methods in Mail Service -> Security -> SMTP,
In Mail service ->Mailing Lists ensure that "Enable server group mailing lists" is checked,
once that is done, per website -> Web Services ensure "Mailing List web archive" is checked if you want mail to appear on the website,
For each group ensure "Mailing list" is checked, and "Mailing List web archive" if you want the group email repository on the website.
At least one group member should have an email account or a Forward to email address for the mail to go somewhere, assuming Web archive is not selected.
Send an email to the group address at [email protected] and look in the SMTP log for teamsserver to receive the email and then forward to individual addresses.
    Hope this helps,
    Harry

  • Groups-Enable Group Mailing List

I just upgraded from Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server to Mac OS X 10.8.3 Server. I had an Employee Mailing List working under Mac OS X 10.6.8, but can't seem to get the new Group Mailing List to work that was created in Groups in Mac OS X 10.8.3.
When trying to send an email to the group "[email protected]" I get the message "Cannot send message using the server".  I gave the group access to Mail but it still doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

Yes, it works, but the Mail Overview still return Mailing Lists Stopped, and I don't know why...
    This is the procedure:
    - on server open terminal
    - then use these commands
    1) sudo touch /etc/postfix/aliases
    2) sudo newaliases
    3) sudo postfix reload
    that's all!

  • Delete an entry from group mailing list

Does anyone know how to remove entries from a group mailing list?
There is no edit button and the list is not visible in mailman?

I would like to know that myself! Afer a long search I was only able to find the following information:

I'd be glad to know if another (more user friendly) way exists. The MailServiceAdmin.pdf apparently wrongly suggests that mailmain can be used to administer server based mailing lists. Is there any "official" way to manage the mailing list and its web archive?

    Hi,
I have used the group mailing list feature and the group web service maillist archive.
In both cases the Mail service must be running. I set up the General panel to Enable POP and IMAP because I have users on those services. I did not Enable SMTP because I used my ISP for outgoing. I don't think you need IMAP or POP for teamsserver mail because no mailbox is created for that user by cyrus or postfix.
In the Relay panel set to accept SMTP relays from 127.0.0.1 and your server IP.
Use junk mail rejection from zen.spamhaus.org
In the Mailing lists panel Enable server group mailing list.
In the Advanced panel -> Hosting ensure you have a local host alias set for your groups domain.com
Group mailing list can be setup in WGM with Enable Mailing list for the group.
Group Mailing list web archive will only work when wiki/blogs are setup for the group.

  • How does one create a GROUP mailing list from an e-mail message ? ?

I am having no end of frustration trying to figure out - using the latest versions of Apple Mail and Apple Address book in side-by-side windows, t he following:
How to select; then 'drag & drop' a list of email addresses from an incoming email message I am reading, so that I can create in my own address book a duplicate "Group" list bearing all the addresses that got the message.
I am sure I have been able in the past to use simple drag-n-drop technique between the mail window and the newly created "Group" window in Address Book, but it won't work this time .
Is there a script or a third party app somewhere that will lift addresses out of the "TO" and "c.c." fields in an Apple Mail message and import them into a designated (new) 'Group' list in Address Book.
Or is there a way to create a CSV file from an email message - if that will do the trick ?

Mailscript's Add Addresses script should open a window with all the addresses in the email listed. You can select the ones you want to import, you can choose the group or create a new one, and you can pick the label for the email address. It will stay open so that you can add different emails to different groups.
Your description doesn't sound anything like Mail Scripts.

  • Group Mailing List Emails Undelivered

My organization finally upgraded our servers.  We jumped from Snow Leopard Server to Mavericks with the Server app.  In the past we were always able to send emails to groups and for most part its working on the new server.  However, we have an app (CCC) on the server that sends notifications to a specific group and the emails are bouncing as undelivered.  The error message is "invalid characters in the message".    Does anyone know a fix for this?  The emails never bounced on the old setup and I can send them to any single user in the group on the new setup without a problem.

I have the same error, the log entry is (for this post i changed the domain to xxx.xx, other than that it is the original messes, up to an and including the typo in the error message, it really says "charracters" with two "r"s.):
    Oct 11 09:32:14 xxx.xx postfix/local[4556]: 6B01FD32027: to=<[email protected]>, relay=local, delay=0.04, delays=0/0/0/0.04, dsn=5.3.0, status=bounced (Command died with status 1: "/Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/libexec/MailService/list_serv er_post post partner". Command output: /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/libexec/MailService/list_serve r_post invalid charracters in message )
    Additional information:
The text in the message is not important, I don't get any message delivered, even an empty one.
    OS X version is: 10.9.5
    Server version in: 3.2.1
Before the update the list worked and I had OS X 10.9.4 and Server 3.1.2
I hope this information helps to find the bug.
    Best regards,
    Markus

  • Mail to Group Mailing List bouncing

I migrated mail to a new machine with a new OD.
There are several issues that came up.
    1. [email protected] used to work magically. I don't see this group in the old OD, so I don't know how it sent mail out, or how members were put into it.
    2. A new group, [email protected], will give strange bounce messages such as:
    <[email protected]> (expanded from <[email protected]>):
data format error. Command output: Apr: Mailbox does not exist
    <[email protected]> (expanded from <[email protected]>):
data format error. Command output: 29: Mailbox does not exist
    <"@mail.fantasyflightgames.com> (expanded from
<[email protected]>): data format error. Command output: 17:54:29:...
Several other groups have the same behavior, so I suspect someones aliases are messed up, but don't know where to look or how to figure out the problem user, short of sending an email to each person individually.
    Thanks for any help.

I fixed this, it was basically a bad email address, somehow during the migration a bit of garbage text was appended to an email address for an account.

  • How do I set up a group mailing list in Mail?

I want to send email from my iPad to multiple recipiants. Is it possible to create a group so I do not have to enter the addresses every time?

Unfortunately, the built in iOS mail app does not allow you to mail to groups - even if you could create them on the iPad in the contacts app - which you cannot do either. There are third party apps that can do this.
