Group mailings

A lot of my entries have MULTIPLE e-mail addresses. I've put my group together, but can't figure out how to send the e-mail to ALL their addresses (those that have multiple e-mail accounts and want EACH of them to get the message). This is hard to describe, and I hope you understand.

I found a workaround to mail to multiple email addresses without the need to select them one by one from your contacts addressbook. This workaround works both for creating a mailinglist (e.g. you want send a mail to all you're football friends) and for sending a email to people that have multiple emailadresses. This is how the workaround works:
- Use the address book of your Mac (The Iphone addressbook does not allow you to use comma's in the email entry line and you need a comma for this workaround)
- For a mailinglist: Create a new address in your address book (e.g. football team). Put the mail addresses of all your football friends in just ONE entry and separate their email addresses with a comma (e.g. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]).
- Sync your addressbook and your Iphone
- Select your mail app and in the To field select the just created address entry (e.g. football team). And voila, now you have selected all your football friends in just one click.
_ For multiple email entries in one contact the trick is more of less the same. Do NOT use multiple email entry lines, but just use one to put all your contacts email addresses in and separate the emailaddresses with a comma.
Have fun!

  • Address Group into Mail

Since I installed Snow Leopard, when I go to my mail to send a New Message I used to be able to open the address book in New Message to put in my group mailings with one click. Now that doesn't work. It only takes the 1st name in the group. Now What
    Thanks

I had similar problems. In Leopard, I used to be able to just drag one or more Groups from the Address Book to the address field in the Mail message, and it would go in unexpanded, as per the Preference I have set in Mail. With Snow Leopard, when I do this all the individual addresses go into the address field PLUS the unexpanded Group.
However, I found that if I Select the group in Address Book, Copy it, then Paste it into the Mail message address field, all is well. That is, the Group goes into the field unexpanded, and the individuals in the group all receive the message with "To: Undisclosed Recipients" as I intended.

  • I'm trying to send a 500 word document by e-mail to a Group in my Address Book

How do I e-mail a 500 word document created on a iPad to a Group from my Address Book? When I put the group name in the "To" line, it says iit is not a valid email address.

The native mail app in iOS does not support group mailings (groups in contacts are just an organizing and filtering tool for the contacts app). You will need to select the recipients one at a time or explore alternate mail apps that handle group mailing (distribution lists).

  • How to send to all contact addresses in a group?

I see similar questions with no answers! I do large group mailings, 100 in each group. I didn’t realize that Mail only sends to one address for each contact, but some of my contacts are husbands and wives with two addresses. Any way to get Mail to send to all addresses of each contact?

This is useful for any group involving kids or families.
I know. That's one of the possibilities I was considering, and the right way to solve that problem would be to have a card for each member of the family, i.e. if each member of the family has his/her own email, he/she should have his/her own card as well.
The problem arises when you want to trick Address Book into doing something it's not been designed to do, namely to treat each address within the same card as an independent entity. They aren't, and the only way to promote them into that condition is by giving them their own card, which is what Allan's workaround does. I still don't consider that a solution, as having multiple copies of each contact wouldn't be acceptable to me, but if it's acceptable to the OP, it works.

  • How can I import all contacts to iPad1 from iMac?

My iPad [1] IOS 5 has a number of duplicate addresses, but does NOT include *all* my Contacts from my Mac.
My Mac is OSX 10.7.   I have selected iCloud as my storage, not 'my computer'
I have tried deleting the iPad Contacts [iCloud>slider 'off']  but when I return the slider to 'on' the Contacts are repopulated, but with all the same duplicates and omissions as before.
I have allowed a time delay; tried restarting the computer; nothing makes any difference.
Please help - I am reduced to sending myself emails containing the missing addresses!
In additon to the above... Pt2:  the duplicates in iPad Contacts have more - eg repeating the Home address - or sometimes less, information.
and if I add a name to a Group, there is immediately a duplicate entry created in the main address list [I could have >8 duplicated entries for one name if added to several group mailings]   Deleting duplicates is pointless, as they reappear.

If you have all the contacts you want on your iMac, turn iCloud contacts off on you iMac. Choose to keep the contacts local. You might backup or archive a copy of your contacts.
Once the iMac is isolated from iCloud, go to the iCloud.com website and select and delete all contacts. You can do this on the iPad also (it may be easier). Once the contacts are cleared from both the website and iPad, you can turn on iCloud contacts on the iMac. It should populate the website and the iPad.

  • Incorrect mail sender address

When I send an e-mail on my Virgin Media account, a prefix, "41 Club" is added to my e-mail address. Consequently, it appears as:-                                                41 Club <[email protected]>. This is incorrect. How can I remove this irritating prefix?

Thanks very much Glenn. Your suggestion made me think a little harder and look a little wider. Some time ago, I served as secretary of our local 41 Club (Former Round Table members). Some of our members reckoned they weren't receiving my group mailings, so I added my second (Virgin Media) e-mail address in the Group Contacts under 41Club. It was this address Mail was picking up when I used Virgin Media. I have removed this Contact and removed and re-entered my own details. Following your suggestion, I also made sure this card is marked ME.
Hopefully this will solve the problem!

  • Distribution lists in Address Book don't stay set

I have several groups I e-mail regularly and many of the people on the lists have multiple e-mail addresses. I know to go to Edit Distribution List to select which one I want that group message to be sent to, but the selections don't seem to stay selected for that list...is there some way of saving the selections for a distribution list that I am missing? Am not sure whether the people with multiple addresses are just not getting the messages when they aren't selected or whether the message is going to all their e-mail addresses, neither of which is desirable.

Talked with AppleCare yesterday and was informed that this behavior is "normal"--whenever you close Address Book, it "forgets" the Distribution List choices you made. Apparently the only way to have someone in your Address book with different e-mail addresses that you use for different group mailings on a regular basis (in my case, folks on both the Chamber of Commerce list with their business e-mail and the Arts Alert list with their home e-mail), is to create duplicate cards for those individuals. One more aggravation in my efforts to be a good neighbor/volunteer who distributes useful information to others for free. If anyone knows another way to accomplish this, I'd sure appreciate hearing about it.

  • Accesing address on the web

Can someone please tell me how I can access all the address in my iMAC mail program from the Comcast web site? I check my home e-mail from work (through the Comcast site) and sometimes need to send out group mailings immediately to people who are in my home address book. How do I do that from work without typing in all those addresses?
    Jeanne

I tried it the first time exporting using current field settings. It allowed me to change the .txt to .csv and import them. However, it listed all the addresses as unkown. No e-mail address or name was listed. Just 300 unknown tags.
Then I tried it again and exported using the Outlook template. I changed the .txt to .csv but when I chose that file in the Comcast web site it automatically added the .txt again to the file and then I got the message I cannot import anything that is not a .csv.
    Still banging my head.....

  • Hiding addresses in 'to' address bar

I would like to send group mailings of my monthly newsletter, but I would prefer to keep everybody's emails private. Is there some way to do this so that I can send them all out in one email, but not have all of the email addresses show up?
    Thank you for your time.

You can do one of two things.
The first being go to Mail > Preferences > Composing and under Addressing, deselect "When sending to a group, show all member addresses".
Or the preferable way is by adding the Group to the Bcc: field instead of the To: field when addressing a message.
Some ISPs and email account providers require at least one address be placed in either the To: or Cc: field. If so, you can place your email address in the To: field and the Group in the Bcc: field. You will obviously receive the sent message and the only email address all recipients will see is your email address when opening the message.
If your ISP or email account provider does not have this restriction, all recipients will not see any email address when receiving and opening the message.

  • Help using Apple Mail

On occasion, I receive e-mails that I forward to others. I think I am doing something wrong. I have set up some group mailings, and that is working fine, my problem is sending the messages I receive. There seems to be a few problems.
    1. I haven't figured out how to send the messages without including the e-mail addresses that came with the original e-mail.
    2. When I send several e-mails that I have received to a specific list, it is sent as one huge e-mail containing all of the e-mails that I am forwarding.
Is there any way I can eliminate the addresses that came with the e-mails I received, without going through each individual e-mail before I send it?
Is there any way I can eliminate certain parts of e-mails that I am forwarding (notes, comments, etc) before I send them without having to do it individually?
I am making the transfer from the PC to the MAC, and was using Eudora on the PC which allowed me to do this. There is no version of Eudora for the MAC.
Any help, comments or direction would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi, Noel,
You'll probably get the quickest and most applicable suggestions if you ask in the Mac OS X 10.6 Mail forum. Since this issue isn't related specifically to your Mac Pro, posting here is restricting the number of people likely to see and respond to your post with useful ideas.
    Good luck and regards.

  • Is it possible to seperate contacts into groups for specific mailings?

Example I have a group of people I play baseball with. I want to send a blast e-mail to those people only, but don't want to sort through my contacts when picking out their e-mail addresses. Can I create like a group or work group with only those e-mails I am interested in?

Firefox doesn't do email, it's strictly a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Mozilla Thunderbird, see this forum for support.

  • Can't Send Mail to Group

    Hi,
I am having a problem sending a message to a Group in my Address Book-- I get this error message: "[SUSPEND] The mailbox is currently unavailable - please contact correspondent directly." It then prompts me to choose another SMTP server.
Since I am having no other problems sending or receiving mail, my guess is that there is something wrong with my group, or an address in my group. A note; I put myself in the group-- is that a no-no?

All internet service providers with the email account and SMTP server the ISP provides along with email account providers only have sending limits/restrictions for all personal/non-business email accounts.
For the email account and SMTP server provided by my ISP, there isn't a number of recipient's per message restriction but there is a total number of recipients for all messages sent in a 24 hour period restriction which can be exceeded with a single message.
You must wait until the 24 hour period expires which I believe is at midnight your time or whenever the 24 hour period begins/ends or if you are also accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet with Mail, you can select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send messages with your .Mac account.
These restrictions are part of an overall effort to prevent spam and bulk spam mailings emanating from the ISP's or email account provider's domain.

  • Mail Smart Groups

My mail smart groups are too large for server - How do I make smart groups smaller e.g. A-F, G-L, M-S T-Z? Any help appreciated

Just edit the groups and set the criteria such that it only gets those items you want in the group.
You would likely need to create a criteria entry for each letter to include.
Although I don't know of any personally, you may want to get some third-party software that does mass mailings, or subscribe to a mass mailing service.

  • Default Email Addresses Picked From Address Book in Groups?

Many of the records in my address book have more than one email address. When I am sending an email to that individual I start to type their name and am presented with the various choices -- I believe the address I most recently used (or maybe most recently received from) is at the top.
But I just ran into some troubles.
I made a Group of people and want to send a mass email. But, unbeknown to me the email addresses seem to be picked as the first one on the address card.
    Do you follow?
How do I create the groups so mass mailings go to the email specify?

Hi wsnuggs, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You may very well get an answer here, but it's quite acceptable to start a new topic of your own, feel free to start a new topic to attract more helpers to your particular situation should it be a little different, here's a link if as is often the case, it's hard to find out where to do it...
