Group messages coming in as HTML or Base 64

Hey all,
This morning, I started receiving messages containing either HTML or Base64 code, along with a bunch of extra information. One such message (one that seemed focused on Base64) looks like this:
--Nokia-mm-messageHandler-BoUnDaRy-=_-396604176 Content-Id: 0.smil Content-Type: application/smil;Name="123_1.smil" Content-Transfer-Encoding: BASE64 PHNtaWw+CjxoZWFkPgo8bGF5b3V0PgogPHJvb3QtbGF5b3V0Lz4KPHJlZ2lvbiBpZD0iVGV4dCIg dG9wPSI3MCUiIGxlZnQ9IjAlIiBoZWlnaHQ9IjMwJSIgd2lkdGg9IjEwMCUiIGZpdD0ic2Nyb2xs Ii8+CjxyZWdpb24gaWQ9IkltYWdlIiB0b3A9IjAlIiBsZWZ0PSIwJSIgaGVpZ2h0PSI3MCUiIHdp ZHRoPSIxMDAlIiBmaXQ9Im1lZXQiLz4KPC9sYXlvdXQ+CjwvaGVhZD4KPGJvZHk+CjxwYXIgZHVy PSIxMHMiPgo8dGV4dCBzcmM9InRleHRfMC50eHQiIHJlZ2lvbj0iVGV4dCIvPgo8L3Bhcj4KPC9i b2R5Pgo8L3NtaWw+Cg== --Nokia-mm-messageHandler-BoUnDaRy-=_-396604176 Content-Id: 0 Content-Type: text/plain;Charset="US-ASCII";Name="text_0.txt" Content-Disposition: Attachment; Filename=text_0.txt; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Location: text_0.txt Content-Transfer-Encoding: BASE64 SXQncyBjb29rZXJzIGJ0dw== --Nokia-mm-messageHandler-BoUnDaRy-=_-396604176--
This text simply said "It's cookers btw"
Another message I received came in HTML with extra information, as follows:
--__CONTENT_64564_PART_BOUNDARY__33243242__ Content-Id: <0.smil> Content-Type: application/smil;Name="123_1.smil" Content-Location: 0.smil Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit <smil> <head> <layout> <root-layout width="240" height="160"/> <region id="Image" width="100%" height="67%" left="0%" top="0%" fit="meet"/> <region id="Text" width="100%" height="33%" left="0%" top="67%" fit="meet"/> </layout> </head> <body> <par dur="8000ms"><text src="text_0.txt" region="Text"/></par></body> </smil> --__CONTENT_64564_PART_BOUNDARY__33243242__ Content-Id: <0> Content-Type: text/plain;Charset="us-ascii";Name="text_0.txt" Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="text_0.txt" Content-Location: text_0.txt Not lou's --__CONTENT_64564_PART_BOUNDARY__33243242__--
This text just said "Not lou's"
This is occurring in group texts where not all users have iMessage. Any idea why this could be the case? Thanks!

This is happening to Android phones using T-Mobile as well. Although the group messages I was in also included Apple phones. Just an FYI

  • Why are group text messages coming as downloads?

Since I downloaded the newest droid softward my group messages which go out to iphone users are often coming back as a download.  The download often just keeps running or I have to go out of texting mode and go back in again to get the text.  This doesn't happen in individual texts to these people.  What can I do??

If you text them a lot as a group, you should look into the GroupMe app. It's available for Android and iOS and can use either data or and SMS (so it can actually be used without the app). Basically, you post to the group and everybody gets it.

  • Group Messages Not Working between Android and iPhone Users on iOS7

    Hi there,
I am a former iPhone user.  I recently converted both my line and my wife's line from the IPhone 5 to a Motorola X Android phone.  We kept our same phone numbers, but we completely switched from Verizon to AT&T.  I have noticed that text messaging works perfectly on an individual basis when I correspond with individuals who have the iPhone, but Group Messaging is not working correctly.  I am able to send messages to a group and they receive them just fine, but when they respond back to me, I do not receive their responses (as it appears they are going through as iMessages).  My wife is having the same issue on her phone.  After doing some detective work, I have found that hundreds of other users are having the same issues on their smartphones when they make the switch from an Apple product to an Android phone.  There are a variety of "bug fixes" listed on the web, but I have completed all of them and I am still having the same issue.  Here is what I have done so far...
*Factory reset both of our phones and removed the SIM cards (since we are with a new phone carrier)
*Changed both of our apple ID passwords
*Removed both of our phone numbers from Apple's database all together
*Unregistered both of our iPhone products with Apple
*Had all of my friends/family switch SMS to "On" in their Settings tab
So now what?  I read one post on an Apple forum that said that they are aware of the issue and we can expect a fix in a future iOS update...but when is that going to occur, if at all?  It is problems like these that led me to leave Apple all together, and here I am after having left the company, and I am still left high and dry searching for solutions to my problems.  Who can help, and how can I remedy the situation?
Anything you can provide to help out would be great.
    Thanks.

There are reports of iOS7 altering the settings on iMessage's connection to the iPhone. Verify that each of the iPhone and the Mac is receiving on the "channel" (phone number or email address) on which the other is initiating iMessages.

  • Problem with group messaging?

A couple of days ago I started receiving only some of the texts that the people in the group message were sending. I receive some messages, but not others. Sometimes the ones that I hadn't received are received hours after the messages were sent. Please help, as it is very hard to communicate while not receiving all of the messages at the correct time. Thank you!

Hello alyy_mae, Let's get you back to the party! Does it appear that the messages that do not come through are coming from users with a certain type of device, i.e iPhone or Android? Is Group Messaging currently turned on which enables MMS capabilities among the group? Check Settings>Messages>Group Messaging>ON. Have you recently installed any new applications from the App Store? I look forward to your reply so that we can get this resolved!

  • IOS 8 creating multiple group messages with same recipients

After updating to iOS 8.0, my iPhone 5s has started creating multiple group messages with the same recipients. For example, my phone has created three group threads with the exact same people in it. Different friends' messages go to different threads. It is terrible confusing and annoying. It has done this with several of my group messages. Deleting the duplicate threads have not worked. They keep recreating themselves when certain people text the group.
Any suggestions? This has been a problem for many of my friends as well.

    Hi hkapn,
Do you and your wife use the same Apple ID and are connected to the same wifi network?  Your phone ringing to multiple devices is called Continuity and is a feature of iOS8. https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/continuity/
Essentially, it allows you to use your iPhone cellular connection on all of your iOS8 devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac computers with Yosemite.  On some devices the call will look like it is coming through FaceTime, but likely on your wife's iPhone it just looked like a regular call.
Since your iPhone was "hosting" the phone call through it's own cellular connection, you were able to pick it up after your wife answered, which caused your wife's phone to disconnect.  This is called Handoff and is also a feature of iOS8.
You can turn off Continuity if you'd like, but you could also look into getting your wife her own Apple ID.  I'm guessing you were sharing one so that you didn't have to make purchases twice.  Also in iOS8, there is a feature called Family Sharing which allows you to link multiple Apple IDs and share purchases (among other things).
In regards to the group text message issue, as far as I can tell, splitting group messages is NOT a feature.   I agree that there should be an answer to this already!

  • Custom Group Message Won't Appear

I go to "Details" in the group message and pull down on the screen and nothing appears. Where is the custom group message field? Am I missing something?

    Hello there, rygar.maximus.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great clarification in regards to the features of group messages and iMessages:

    Name a group message
You can name group iMessage threads. While viewing a conversation, tap Details, in the upper right. Then drag down and enter the name in the Group Name field.

  • Group Messaging

    Verizon,
I would really like to know the reasoning behind removing group messaging.  Do you not understand that ALL iPhones are equipped with this capability and that many users take advantage of this?  It really can be annoying when receiving a group chat from users who don't know that you don't have the capability and there are 30+ messages.  If you removed it because you plan on implementing your own solution then we the users deserve to know that.  The phone is most definitely capable of this technology as the 8X on EVERY other carrier can perform group messaging.  Please give myself and the users at least some kind of explanation instead of leaving us in the dark.
    Thank you,

  • Group Messaging Problem

When I send a group message and people in the group respond their responses come in as individual message rather than the response happening under the group thread.  It's something new that is going on because there are others having the same problem.  I was in a group message that was started by another individual and it happened with all of us, some iPhone some non iPhone users.  I checked the settings on the phone of the group text originator and group messaging and MMS was on, so that can't be the issue.  I think it may be a problem with the new update.

    Hello titussmith,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that responses to a group text thread are coming into you as individual text messages. There may be an explanation for this behavior which is described in the attached article. I would recommend reading over the article and using it as a resource.
Send a group message with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Why is Messages sending my group messages as individual texts?
If you send a message to multiple people and at least one person isn't using group messaging, an individual message will go to each recipient using either SMS or MMS. Only the original sender will get any responses to these messages, in separate message threads.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • Is it possible to temporarily turn off receiving group messaging?  If so what will the people sending the message see?

Is it possible to temporarily turn off receiving group messaging?  If so what will the people sending the message see?

    Welcome to the discussions!
Is it possible to temporarily turn off the wireless signal being emitted from an Airport Extreme whilst still remaining connected to the internet via ethernet? If so, what do you need to do to turn off the wireless signal?
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab located just under the row of icons
    Wireless Mode = None
Update to save your new settings
You can reverse the process to turn the wireless back on when you are ready.
Also, how strong is the wireless signal? If placed in a basement of a residential property, is it likely that the signal would reach two floors above?
It's just not possible to accurately predict wireless performance in advance for any installation. A guess would be that the signal will be very weak, and likely unusable, but you won't know for sure until you try it out in your house.

  • Droid Ultra - group messaging issues

Hello - 2 days ago, I lost the ability to send or receive group messages. I did not have a system upgrade - I have had no change to my phone that I am aware of. I was sending and receiving these messages just fine on Monday, but when trying to send Tues/Wed/Thurs, I get errors when sending and don't even see the incoming ones coming through. I'm on Android version 4.4.4. Any thoughts???

    tiny8741,
I know that would concern me just the same. Let's see if we can restore your devices messaging abilities. What happens when you attempt to send a group message? Are you receiving a specific error message? Are you able to send and receive picture messages? Are you connected to mobile data or WiFi? Same results with WiFi off?

  • How to delete a person permanantly from group message

Hi. My daughter inadvertently added a person to a group message. She is the only one who knows her. She deleted her almost straight away when she realised the error. The girl is really annoyed as she has no interest in the group chat messages which keep coming through. She asks to be deleted. Although she doesn't appear on the distribution list, she keeps getting the messages.  My daughter is upset as she has now lost a friend. They are only 10 years old. Why can't she be permanently deleted?

    Hi,
This question is posted in the  iChat Community.
iChat (1 through 6) start in the version before Jaguar (OS X 10.1) and through to OS x 10.6 (Lion) and about 10 years.
It can join or use AIM based accounts or Jabber ones like Google and Facebook chat and in iChat 6 Yahoo.
All these services say you have to be 13 years old.
In those types of group chat you can delete someone (or they can leave and  the chat will continue).
However if you mean you are using Messages (Mountain Lion onwards) then you have to end the Group chat and start a new one.
There isn't a way really of removing someone who wants to leave or should not have been added.
The differences here are that the iMessages account was added to the iChat App which then amounted to the name change.
The Messages app on the iOS devices worked differently to iChat in several areas and this is one of them.

  • IPhone5 Group Messaging Problem

I just upgraded to the iPhone 5 today and I'm having trouble with group messaging.  Here's an example.  I regularly group message with three friends of mine.  Two of them have iPhones and the third does not.  There was never any trouble when I was still using my iPhone 4.  Upon upgrading phones today, I was no longer able to send or receive messages in that group.  If I tried sending a message it would error as unsent, and when I received messages they would come in from that specific person, not in the group thread.  I started a new group, and only messaged my friends with iPhones and it worked flawlessly.  So it has something to do with the new iPhone 5 communicating with a non-iPhone user.
Also, I have had some multimedia messages come in as a link that I have to click to download.  Not just a picture or video in the message.  I'm not sure what's up with that either?  (Visit my MMS message in the next 7 days via web at http://www.viewmymessage.com/.....)
Is there an update coming soon to fix the problems?

I have an AT&T contracted iphone 5. Cannot send mms to anyone but other iPhone users. If you search the Internet, you'll see that the problem is everywhere...both the carriers and Apple are actling like the problem belongs to the other, or feigning any knowledge (which is kind of funny since the no MMS thing was in an ios6 beta that was released awhile ago, so I KNOW apple knows about it). No, I'm not running a beta (obviously, I just got my iphone 5).  Awesome. Have a great camera on this thing, but cannot send OR receive MMS from anyone other than other iphone users. Gotta love it.
