Group messaging question...

My friends and I are testing the Group Messaging features in iMessage (iphone and ipad).  We both have Group Messaging off, but when I send a message to two other iMessage users, it goes out as a Group Message.  They both are on their iphones and can see each other's phone number.  However, they can only see my messages, not each other's replies.
I would think with Group Messaging off, they should not be able to see each other's phone numbers.  In other words, my text to multiple people should appear to them as an individual text messages sent just to them.  Is this a flaw?

Sure. You can use this link to provide Apple feedback, which ensures that your feedback is forwarded to and read by the appropriate Apple personnel, but this doesn't mean what you request will be implemented anytime soon if ever. You are certainly not the first person who has requested this, and you probably won't be the last. I have used the feedback link for this primarily for the Mail client.

  • HT3529 IMessage and Group Message question

with iphone 4S if I turn off iMessage and group message and someone sends a message to me and other people, will my reply "reply all" to everyone the message was sent to? Or is it only that when I send to multiple people their responses are only sent to me?

You can send a message to multiple recipients using SMS, MMS, and iMessage.
Group messaging allows you to send messages to multiple people and have any responses delivered to everyone in the group. Group messaging works with iMessage and MMS.
If you send a message to multiple recipients without group messaging in use by the sender and all recipients, an individual message will go to each recipient using either SMS or MMS. Responses to these messages will be delivered only to the original sender in seperate messaging threads.

  • Group messaging in iOS 7

Ok so ever since I got my new iphone 5s my iMessage/text messaging has been really weird. My group messaging is not working right. Instead of getting a group message, I get messages individually from each group member. So you can't even tell its a group message. It just looks like a bunch of random texts from different people. I don't get why it's doing this??
I looked in my settings under messages and I have iMessage turned on, SMS message on, group message on. Pretty much everything is on but it's still not working. Also it may be worth noting that everyone from the group message all have iPhones so it's all through imessage.
Any thoughts as to how to fix this??? It's driving me crazy!

I have seen a number of posts from different locations regarding the Group Messaging question. I am with AT&T in the US and have an iPhone 4s with iOS 7.0.3. I do not use Group Messaging very often and have always had the button in the off position. I have sent a couple of short group messages in the last week, and see all responses from all members of the group. You asked for a picture so here you go. This is located under Settings>Messages.

  • Groups messaging and find my iphone questions

    Hello everyone.
First, I've created and been part of group messaging since ios 8, and can NOT delete one recipient in the group.
Second, with my iphone 5 I had to put in my password everytime I launched Find My iphone.  With the iphone 6 I don't have to do this.  My wife said she never had to do this with her iphone 5.  I gave her my old one (because it has 32gb and hers has 16), and now she has to enter the password every time she launches the app.  How do I set the device so she does not have to enter the password every time the app launches?
    Thank you!!

If the phone says offline then there is no way to track it. Reporting to police would be the next step.

    Hey Grupo Castillo,
Thanks for the question. You can actually configure this behavior from Mail preferences:
    1. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
    2. Click Composing.
    3. Deselect the checkbox for "When sending to a group, show all member addresses".
When you send an email to the group, only the groups name will be seen.

  • How in detail, do you create a group message for the Mac Mini?

Could someone please help me create a group message in Mail on my Mac Mini computer.  I have gone into Address Book but cannot find anywhere to create a group.  Tried it and put the Group name at the top, then listed all the group but when I send a message the only one who gets it is the one at the top.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Yes, thanks, Linc.  Right after I posted my question, I simply googled it, and the page you linked came right up.  After 1/2 an hour of trying to make a "VIP folder for someone," I got the right info from googling and handled the situation in one second!  Once again, I have come to the conclusion that I should google any Apple problem, rather than staying within the confines of Apple Help, etc.

  • Group Messaging - Can it be turned off?

Hi - I've been searching the net and have called to ask this question and am now posting this question as a last resort to try to resolve this.  Is there any way to turn off group messaging so that when you reply to a pic message / joke for example you don't send the message to everyone that got the original?
Seems hard to believe that anyone would think this is a good feature without a need to be able to pick whether you reply to the sender or to everyone on the list that you don't know (and who will ask who you are because they don't know why you send an LOL out of the blue).
Any suggestions other than simply not being able to reply to messages and instead having to create a new message so you can reply rather than reply to all?   I have yet to receive a joke or pic message where I wanted to reply to every person that got it from the person I got it from (perhaps that's just me)....

You can select the sender's name from the drop down list at the top or you can press and hold the message to reply just to the sender. But I HATE this group messaging feature. It is very easy to embarrass yourself this way unless you pay close attention to see if it is a group message or not. I don't want that extra work on every single message. I don't like it at all. I've already accidentally texted my older sister's new boyfriend that I've never met.
Also, it is kind of an invasion of privacy--I can see everyone that the message was sent to. What if the sender doesn't want me to know who all the message was sent to? These older phones don't have any kind BCC option like e-mail. I really wish they would remove this feature.

  • Are my group messages being sent as MMS instead of SMS?

Hi there! I just have a quick question about text messaging on my iPhone. I read here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5760) that "some carries automatically convert group messages into MMS" and that "group messaging is sent either as an SMS or MMS"
See, I am a new postpaid subscriber. And my plan only includes unlimited text messaging (SMS) and data use. I usually send out group messages to 50+ of my colleagues when I need to remind them about something or ask a question. Are these messages being sent as an MMS, or as regular text messages? I fear I may be getting charged hefty sums for texting.
    Thanks!

Why don't you check with your carrier. They would be in a position to better answer that question than a group of users from all over the world.

  • HT5760 I need to be able to send a GROUP message!

I need to be able to send a GROUP message from my iPhone to the whole group of 36 people. Right now i have to inset/type each one of people names to start a new conversation thread. Any ideas?

As clearly indicated in the article from which the question was posted, this is not a feature of iOS.

  • BBM Group Chat Question

BBM group chat question - from time to time, additional chats show up in our group that have no messages in them. When someone posts in one, the whole group sees it and the admins can delete it, but otherwise they tend to be localized to one or two members and we can't remove them. Is there a way for a non-admin to get rid of one of these chats? My understanding is that if I had started it that I'd be able to delete it but since I'm not the creator I don't have this option. Thanks.

Group chat is not supported yet.

  • GROUP MESSAGING ON iPHONE??

Hello to all. I been looking around to try to find a "topic" associated with "group messaging" but no luck. My questions is does iPhone have "Group Messaging". So I can send 1 message to about 4 different people in my contact list? I know you can do it with e-mails with the "BCC" option. But what about TEXT?

    GROUP MESSAGING ON iPHONE??
    No.
SEARCH BOX IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF YOUR SCREEN??
    Yes.
Did you really think that in the 3 months the iPhone has been out that no one else but you has wondered about this?

  • Just loaded IOS 5, How to handle Group Messages

Just got our Iphones loaded with new IOS5, and noticed that all text messages are going to my wifes and my Iphones. They show up as a Group message. This is not what we wanted, how can we change this? I can't seem to find a setting.

    One more question i have.
I know i have to wrap those codes in a procedure to invoke it from .NET platform and set the procedure as "stored procedure" of a DataSource of a GridView. So i tried the following code, yet it didn't work, throwing exception "Error(3,1): PLS-00428: an INTO clause is expected in this SELECT statement."

  • Group messages coming in as HTML or Base 64

    Hey all,
This morning, I started receiving messages containing either HTML or Base64 code, along with a bunch of extra information. One such message (one that seemed focused on Base64) looks like this:
    --Nokia-mm-messageHandler-BoUnDaRy-=_-396604176 Content-Id: 0.smil Content-Type: application/smil;Name="123_1.smil" Content-Transfer-Encoding: BASE64 PHNtaWw+CjxoZWFkPgo8bGF5b3V0PgogPHJvb3QtbGF5b3V0Lz4KPHJlZ2lvbiBpZD0iVGV4dCIg dG9wPSI3MCUiIGxlZnQ9IjAlIiBoZWlnaHQ9IjMwJSIgd2lkdGg9IjEwMCUiIGZpdD0ic2Nyb2xs Ii8+CjxyZWdpb24gaWQ9IkltYWdlIiB0b3A9IjAlIiBsZWZ0PSIwJSIgaGVpZ2h0PSI3MCUiIHdp ZHRoPSIxMDAlIiBmaXQ9Im1lZXQiLz4KPC9sYXlvdXQ+CjwvaGVhZD4KPGJvZHk+CjxwYXIgZHVy PSIxMHMiPgo8dGV4dCBzcmM9InRleHRfMC50eHQiIHJlZ2lvbj0iVGV4dCIvPgo8L3Bhcj4KPC9i b2R5Pgo8L3NtaWw+Cg== --Nokia-mm-messageHandler-BoUnDaRy-=_-396604176 Content-Id: 0 Content-Type: text/plain;Charset="US-ASCII";Name="text_0.txt" Content-Disposition: Attachment; Filename=text_0.txt; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Location: text_0.txt Content-Transfer-Encoding: BASE64 SXQncyBjb29rZXJzIGJ0dw== --Nokia-mm-messageHandler-BoUnDaRy-=_-396604176--
This text simply said "It's cookers btw"
Another message I received came in HTML with extra information, as follows:
    --__CONTENT_64564_PART_BOUNDARY__33243242__ Content-Id: <0.smil> Content-Type: application/smil;Name="123_1.smil" Content-Location: 0.smil Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit <smil> <head> <layout> <root-layout width="240" height="160"/> <region id="Image" width="100%" height="67%" left="0%" top="0%" fit="meet"/> <region id="Text" width="100%" height="33%" left="0%" top="67%" fit="meet"/> </layout> </head> <body> <par dur="8000ms"><text src="text_0.txt" region="Text"/></par></body> </smil> --__CONTENT_64564_PART_BOUNDARY__33243242__ Content-Id: <0> Content-Type: text/plain;Charset="us-ascii";Name="text_0.txt" Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="text_0.txt" Content-Location: text_0.txt Not lou's --__CONTENT_64564_PART_BOUNDARY__33243242__--
This text just said "Not lou's"
This is occurring in group texts where not all users have iMessage. Any idea why this could be the case? Thanks!

This is happening to Android phones using T-Mobile as well. Although the group messages I was in also included Apple phones. Just an FYI

  • IOS Group Messaging not working when Android phones are involved

Group Messaging not working for me when there are both Iphones and Androids involved. iPhones still using iOS 7 don't seem to be having problems leading me to believe this is an iOS 8 problem. Is there a workaround for this yet, or is this a legitimate bug fix that Apple will have to address?

    Hey geoff_zen,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you arr having trouble with group messages. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you selected iMessage for use. If the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use, troubleshoot iMessage registration.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. If a data connection isn't available, troubleshoot cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while you're on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn which network your phone supports. If your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while you're on a call.
    Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario
