Group ownership for rdbms files in the diagnostic dest

Hi Gurus,
In my RAC environment I have notices that, group ownership for the files under $ORACLE_BASE/diag/orcl/orcl/ folder is set to ASMADMIN.
Is there any specific reason why oracle does it that way?
Do we have an article id which explains this .
Thanks.

Hi,
Please refer to the following for the same
Advanced Installation Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a Cluster Preinstallation Tasks
2.5.5.1.3 Oracle ASM Groups for Job Role Separation Installations
SYSASM is a new system privilege that enables the separation of the Oracle ASM storage administration privilege from SYSDBA. With Oracle Automatic Storage Management 11g Release 2 (11.2), members of the database OSDBA group are not granted SYSASM privileges, unless the operating system group designated as the OSASM group is the same group designated as the OSDBA group.
Select separate operating system groups as the operating system authentication groups for privileges on Oracle ASM. Before you start OUI, create the following groups and users for Oracle ASM:
The Oracle Automatic Storage Management Group (typically asmadmin)This is a required group. Create this group as a separate group if you want to have separate administration privilege groups for Oracle ASM and Oracle Database administrators. In Oracle documentation, the operating system group whose members are granted privileges is called the OSASM group, and in code examples, where there is a group specifically created to grant this privilege, it is referred to as asmadmin. If you have multiple databases on your system, and use multiple OSDBA groups so that you can provide separate SYSDBA privileges for each database, then you should create a separate OSASM group, and use a separate user from the database users to own the Oracle Grid Infrastructure installation (Oracle Clusterware and Oracle ASM). Oracle ASM can support multiple databases.Members of the OSASM group can use SQL to connect to an Oracle ASM instance as SYSASM using operating system authentication. The SYSASM privileges permit mounting and dismounting disk groups, and other storage administration tasks. SYSASM privileges provide no access privileges on an RDBMS instance.

  • Change default app for DAT files as the su

    Hey
I do a lot of work in the terminal and it's sometimes convenient to be "su" permanentely instead of login in and out of the root account. The problem is whenever I try to open a DAT file, it tries to open it with, of all the apps in my Mac, HP Photosmart or something like that -.-
I've done the "cmd+i -> change all" several times now and it only worked for the non-root user...
Does anyone know how to change the deafult app for DAT files as the su (maybe the command line(s) for doing so)??
It's not like it's a life or death thing, it's just that it's a bit annoying having to constantly write "-a Microsoft\ Excel" whenever I want to open such a file (which can be several dozens of times in an afternoon and since the names of the files may change it won't suffice to 'arrow up' to the line previously used =\)
    Much appreciated

    I'll try that, thanks
I sometimes need it 'cause of permission issues of the files...
(E.g.,  Some file is sent to me or I'm logged as su to install something using ports and compile/run programs and the output files generated are only readable/editable as su... As I said, it's not a life/death thing, just wanted to know if anyone knew how to fix it once and for all )
I'll post the result as soon as I've tried the proposed solution

  • Can I partition a hard drive so that one partition is for windows files and the other is for time machine backups?

I have a 1TB WD passport that currently contains windows files e.g photos, documents, etc. Can I partition it so that one partition contains these files and the other partition is used for time machine backups? Also, how do I change the partition system on the hard drive so that it uses the GUID partition system?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can, though you need to format and partition the drive from the scratch.
    1) back up your PC data on other drive.
    2) partitioning your drive into 2 partitions with Disk Utility.
    3) format one partition by Mac OS extended (journaling) for Time Machine, the other by exFAT for PC data.
    4) restore PC data on exFAT partitioned drive.

  • No audio for some files in the Final Cut Event/Original Media folder

Hi, recently, I noticed that some of the video files stored into the Final Cut Event/"Event"/Original Media folder had no audio. They do have audio when I read them into FCP X but not when I open them as ordinary files in the Finder. It worries me as it makes these files unusable in any other application, unless I "share" them from FCP X. It's no big deal but it's more work and on the principle, it's criminal: why FCP X would strip the audio off an original? Video and photo applications now work on the non-destructive principle!
I usually shoot videos with a DSLR (Canon 550D/T2i) and a GoPro 3. It seems that the files impacted are the ones shot with the Canon and optimized for FCP X. The GoPro files are fine, optimized or not.
Is there any solution to this problem or will I have to export the files from FCP X?

Thank you very much for the info.
I removed the Media Cache and Media Cache File folders.  Didn't seem to make any difference.  Also, there's no audio if I try to play it in Organizer.
I have a question regaring "import".  What exactly does that mean?
Since all my MTS files are on hard drive already, what I did was:
    1) Open a new project in PE9.
    2) In the "Organize" tab, click "Get Media"
    3) Choose "Get Videos/Photos/Audio from: Files and Folders".
    4) In the pop-up window, navigate to my folder and choose the existing MTS file.
    Was that called "import"?
    Thank you again!

  • How to control text for PDF Files in the BI7.0 Broadcaster

    Hi ,
I am running a web template in the BI7.0 Broadcaster. The output prints in the PDF format. In the precalculation tab I have set up 4 variables(VAR1,VAR2 .. etc) . The main folder where these PDF files get stored I can control the text but dont know how to change the PDF file names which fall into this folder. All the PDF files have the technical name and number(like XXX_00000,XXX_00001 etc.) How can I control the text for these files.
    Thanks,

    HI Kal,
it is not possible to get any influence on the filenames. If you use Filternavigation the filename is generated to be unique.

  • WebLogic looking for class file using the wrong case

During my ant build, I precompile my JSPs using weblogic.jspc. All of the jars and wars are packaged into an ear and deployed to WebLogic 8.1 on Linux. When I access one of our normal screens, everything is good. Things go wrong when I try to access one of our help screens. We have a base help file that includes another file based on the screen code passed to it. The screen code is used in combination with a HashMap to look up the correct JSP to include. This part goes fine. But when the JSP is included, I get the following error. The best I can figure is that the class file is in mixed case (i.e., SampleHelp00.jsp and SampleHelp00.class), but Weblogic is looking for samplehelp00.class.
I'm not even where I should begin looking to solve this. Anyone have any ideas?

Ignore the part about precompiled JSPs being ignored on my development server. Turns out I had a stale cache. I cleared that out and now it recognizes the files.
The problem with that, is now I'm getting an Error 500 when I try to access the page.

  • When will there be an update for RAW files from the new Olympus OM-D E-M10 for Lightroom 4?

    Hello there,
when will there be an update for Lightroom 4 which provides the option to import RAW-files from the Olympus OM-D E-M10 directly into LR4?

Lightroom 5.0 came out in June 2013 with a public beta for LR5 available at Adobe Labs back in April 2013.  It seems you may have been unlucky purchasing the old version just before the new version came out, or perhaps LR5 required a minimum OS level your computer didn’t have.
Purchasing a new version every year isn’t necessary, but you do have to buy a new version whenever you buy an unsupported camera.
Adobe employees need to get paid just like the rest of us, and their releasing a new payfor version every so often is how they get paid.
Never mind that the new version has improvements beyond new camera support, so there was a full development-release-training-marketing effort behind it.
The upgrade price is cheaper than the full purchase price and if you want Photoshop capabilities, there is a LR+PS Photographer’s Bundle that is half the price of purchasing Photoshop, itself:

  • Searching for audio files in the Browser

    Hi,
I've recently ripped all of my SFX libraries to AIFF files but am having some trouble with using the Search functionality of the Browser.
When ripping the CDs, I wrote an Applescript to pull the descriptions from a spreadsheet and put it in the Spotlight Comment for each file. This works great for Spotlight searches from Finder but seems to be next-to-useless for Soundtrack (Pro) as it only seems to find results based on filenames.
Then I tried a different approach. I wrote another Applescript to copy the Spotlight Comment for each file and paste it into the Comment field in the metadata for each file (via iTunes). Again, this works great in Finder using a Spotlight search but makes no difference to the results in Soundtrack.
Each time I re-indexed my files within Soundtrack (as a side note, does anyone know where this indexing information gets stored? I'd like to have a look at it)
I briefly had a look at Appleloop Utility but it seems to offer nothing apart from vague categorisation of the files.
Can anyone explain what the search function within Soundtrack actually searches or see where I'm going wrong or offer some help?
    Thanks,
    Neil

  • Include using jsp:include for a file from the docroot directory.

    Hello,
I try to include one file from the doocroot but only can import files from the context (War deployed).
    when I put
    <jsp:include page="/foo.htm">
    to include this file: http://www.mydomain.com/foo.html
it try to show this file: http://www.mydomain.com/mycontext/foo.html
it puts ever the context before the name of my file.
How can I include this file.
    Thanks
PD: obviously 'foo.html' is in the doocroot.

From within a JSP you have a reference to a PageContext called pageContext. This has a method getServletContext(). From the ServletContext you can find the real path the servlet lives in. So...
File basePath = new File(pageContext.getServletContext().getRealPath("/"));Now basePath contains your path $Catalina/webapps/webservices. Then it's just a matter of working relative to that, e.g.:
    File usersFile = new File(basePath, "users.txt");

If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.
