Group Policies won't apply then un-configure themselves
I'm having problem with Group Policies at ONE school (I have 59 other schools that are not having this problem).
Running ZDM7sp1_SR4 on Netware 6.5 sp7 and e-dir 8.8- "Student Group Policy" files are sitting on sys\public\gpolicy\student\ I edit the Group Policy in ConsoleOne and then apply to Student container on Event:UserLogin; NDS Rights are for the entire School OU.
Student user logs in, Policy does not apply on login. Open ConsoleOne to see if I missed configured something, and all settings I had previously set have disappeard- everything is unconfigured: Proxy settings and everything in Administrative Templates.
Run WMSched on workstation, see the Student_Group_Policy is associated, and when I "Run Now" it runs for about 2 secs then goes back to "Not" running.
WMgrpPolicy.log are exactly the same as the WMgrpPolicy.log a PC (at a different OU) that does have Group Policies applying. Line-by-line, they are identical.
I don't know what to do next.
It seems to mee that the settings you configure in ConsoleOne are not written to the policy files on the filesystem or the location of the files is incorrect.
Could you verify that the location where the files reside (shown in top of the policy details screen) is writable to the user that creates the policy, and that it's readable by the workstations ?

How many group policies can be applied to an OU?
Hi,
I just want to know about how many group policies can be applied to an OU?
I have 7 different GPOs but only 2 or 3 are applied. How can I troubleshoot this problem?
reg
AGPOs are actually applied by users or computers. Each object can process 999 GPOs. If you have GPOs not being applied, it most likely is a scoping issue.

Group Policies not always applying
I am seeing a problem when trying to apply group policies to windows xp
worstations. Sometimes they apply and other times they will either
partially apply or not apply at all.
After some thorough investigation I have found that sometimes the
directory stucture in "c:\windows\system32\grouppolicy" is just not being
copied fully from the source. The Scheduled task to apply the GPO is
always running but, seems to be before the grouppolicy directory has been
updated.
Enviroment is Netware 6.5sp5, zen 6.5sp2, winxp sp2, novell client 4.9sp2
(also tried 4.91sp2). Problem has been around for some time (previous
versions) and can be randomly replicated on different servers and in test
enviroment.
Note: have tried changing source for group policy to local pc and even
this can fail, this along with other tests have rulled out network
issues. Have noticed though that when enabling logging of zen management
agents that the logging in process is slowed down and will help reduce
the problem. Could be a log-in speed issue?
Hope somebody can offer a solution. Thanks in advance.Unfortunately I cannot read much from your log file. But currently I am
a bit confused about your setting.
* Are you using a ZENworks User Policy Package or a ZENworks
Workstation Policy Package? Or both (which means you have to care
about concurrency)?
* What is your schedule for the policy package and the GPOs (within
the policy package)? The usual schedule for user policy packages
is the user login.
* If you have problems during user login, try a different schedule.
* Is it correct, that the central and the local GPO path is not
always synchronized by ZENworks? Then check access problems to the
server/path (including name resolution, ...), check the ZENworks
policy package schedule (in ConsoleOne and at the local
workstation) and verify that the scheduled job is executed.
* If the synchronization works, but the GPOs are not applied, it
looks more like a Windows problem. There are a couple of Windows
tools for testing this. Unfortunately I am not on site this week
and I don't remember their names.
* Yes, it is important to use the SP2 plugin for ConsoleOne.
* It is also important that the workstation you create the policy
package (with the mmc) and the workstation you apply the GPOs have
exactly the same patch level.
Keep in mind, that ZENworks distributes the policy files and Windows
applies them. Therefore both processes must be considered separately.
There could be said much more about GPOs, so please give us one concrete
problem with clear boundaries (what you have tested).

Group Policy won't apply, No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
I am using Group Policy Preferences to remove users from the local admin group and add a local admin account. This GPO is working on 90% of the Win7 machines on the network, but three laptops are not accepting the GPO. I get the following error:

I've searched high and low for an answer and nothing I find on-line seems to apply. I also notice that the option to 'Run as Administrator' does not work. If I right-click on cmd.exe and select 'run as administrator', the command box opens but
I am not prompted for credentials and the command box does not have admin rights. Not sure if this is related or not.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
JoeHi,
Delete your remove action from the GPP and push it again, does this issue still occur?
If it still exists, let’s collect the GPP log for analysis:
Group policy Preference debug logging policy settings are located under:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy
Click Logging and tracing, select local users and group preference logging and trace.
Meanwhile, just a similar issue, but it is worth trying:
A user is added to the wrong group on a client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Hello,
I have just installed Windows 10 on my laptop as a try out, and I LOVE it!!
Just, I have joined my laptop to a domain... and unfortunately the group policies are not applying!
I get error messages like this in the application event logs:
The user '...' preference item in the '...' Group Policy Object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x800704f1 The system cannot contact a domain controller to service the authentication request. Please try again later.' This error was suppressed.
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks!Hi GeoffreyBeulque,
Can you give us the ipconfig /all information about your network?
In your error information, your client cannot contact the Domain Controller, you need check your network settings to make sure the connection is OK.

Problem with Group policies and Administrator count
I have one problem with Group policies and Admnistrator count.
Win XP, Client 4.91, Client Zen 4
I use DLU for users.
the Group policies are well applied and i keep them after logout for
security reasons.
But my problem is, after logout, the Administrator count becomes this
Group policies, and the only technique that I use, is to remove the
repertories c:\windows\system32\GroupPolicy*. Administrator must
loguing again for having good policies.
Can you help me?Bill,

ZCM 11 Group Policies not applying to satellite servers
Hi there
We are running 2 Windows 2012 Primary Servers and a SQL 2012 Database server at our main site, all remote sites have SLES11 SP2/OES11 SP1 as satellite servers. We upgraded all servers last weekend to 11.3.1 and now have an issue with Group Policies applying to the satellites. The satellites are all set up the same with Authentication, Collection, Content and Imaging roles.
Since we upgraded Group Policies are (99% of the time) not applying on satellite sites. I have tried manually replicating content (I assume policies will come from content replication?) to the satellites - I've done this with a zac cdp replicate and zac cvc and everything seems to replicate over however I tried highlighting a satellite server and clicking on Action, Specify Content - select the Policy that is not applying and move it into the selected Content to update column and when I click finish I get the error "The Wizard cannot continue for the following reason(s): Unable to complete your request for the following reason: Error updating content"
On a managed device at the satellite site if you look at the properties of the Zenworks agent and click on Policies it has applied 4 device assigned policies successfully - Remote Management, Power Management, Application Launcher Config and Application Control Policy, also has successfully applied 3 out of the 4 User Assigned Policies - Mandatory Profile, Dynamic Local User, Application Control - but not the Windows Group Policy.
Our PCs are on Windows 8.1 and all policies were applying fine before the weekend upgrade......
Has anyone else had any experience of Group Policies not applying that could point me where to look? I have logged an SR with Novell through our reseller but as yet I am getting no response back at all, not even asking me for more information.
Many thanks
SharonSounds like you have a content replication issue more than a GPO issue.
Especially if the GPO works for locations that point to the Primaries
for Content.
Do you have throttling configured anywhere in any fashion?
You may need to increase the Replication Timeout to make sure content is
getting over to the Sats. Often increasing from 60 to 240 helps, but
watch out for throttling preventing content replication.
It is possible things are backing up.

W7 Group Policies not applying
We are planning on deploying Windows 7 Pro in our offices this coming year and I have been in the process of building my Windows 7 group policies from scratch by using the XP policies as a template. I have 3 policies that I create the standard lockdown, administrative mode, and IT. As I'm building the policies and the have the Group Policy editor open, whatever changes that I make do apply on my local machine, but after I save and upload the policies and apply them to machines the policy status in the Zen Notify Icon says that they have applied, but in function no policies have applied. I'm getting ready to start adding my Allow These Executables list but don't want to waste the time if the desktop look and feel and general access features aren't being applied correctly to the machines. Is there anything that I can check to see why this isn't working correctly?
I am making the policies from scratch on a Win7 Pro machine. When I use the GP Editor from ZCM to create and reopen the policies all of my policy details are applying correctly to my local machine which I am working on the policy with. When I apply them to Win7 systems the policy status under the ZCM desktop icon shows that they were applied successfully, but when trying do do anything prohibited by policy or checking the gpedit.msc everything says Not Configured. This is only happening to "Windows Group Policy" objects, DLU and Remote Control are working correctly.

Our Bank's core processor has rewritten their product to run in a web browser. Their browser of choice is Firefox 3.6. The specifications from our core processor specify specific security and settings parameters that must be adhered to by all users for their product to run properly. Is there a way to globally configure these settings via the registry or group policies to insure everyone who logs in to a given workstation opens Firefox with the same settings? Thank you for any assistance you can provide - Steve Gish, First Bank Kansas.

iPad (Retina Display) (iOS 7.0.4) won't sync new music from iTunes (Windows). Only solution found was to uncheck "Sync Music" under Music tab, apply, then recheck "Sync Music" and apply. This is timely and aggravating. Any other solution?
I have also tried a hard reset. I have also gone into settings and checked "display all music".
Anyone know if the new update will have solutions to this problem?Successful experience with Apple Care.
If anyone is having the same problem, there's a chance it's an issue with the Mobile Device Manager for iTunes. The key is to ditch the old/corrupt file and replace it via clean iTunes installation.
Here's the fix that worked for me:
1. Trash iTunes (uninstall); don't forget to trash it from your dock if you have it there.
2. Head to /System/Library/Extensions/ and trash file AppleMobileDevice.kext
3. Head to /Library/Receipts/ and trash AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg ( * this may or may not be there * )
4. Restart computer (& empty trash)
5. Download fresh & clean iTunes and reinstall.
Voila! The content is now properly recognized by iTunes, the capacity bar registers the correct amount and type beyond "Other", and now I can put music back on the iPad. -
Group policies not applied after upgrading to Windows 10
After signing in on my T430 the group policies delivered by the AD-server are not applied. In particular the network drives don't get mapped (there are some other policies as well, but that's the bigggest problem). When i wait for some minutes in order to force a group policies update, the network drives are slowly getting mapped. The network connection works after signing in and the connection to the server is stable. I set up a clean Windows 10 installation on my T430 (instead of before just upgrading from Windows 8.1) and without installing any third party programs oder drivers and I experience exactly the same problem. On 6 other desktop-computers Windows 10 works fine, just our 2 upgraded Lenovos don't apply the group policies after signing in. I restored my Windows 8.1 image and now it works fine again, the group policies are applied after signing in. Has anyone else experienced this problem yet and found a solution for this?
I have contacted Lenovo via phone support. They told me Windows 10 isn't tested yet, they have not made any experiences so far and in order to that officially don't support Windows 10. Drivers may work, may not work. Contrary to this list - https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103535 We don't use any wmi filters. But what troubles me ist that at the first login of a user all group policies are applied, including mapped network drives. So everything is fine. But all further logins make it not work. I have contacted Microsoft at well, they tell me to contact Lenovo. Lenovo on the other hand tells me to contact Microsoft...

Group policies not working in one lab.
G'day
I've got a situation at my school where group policies are not having any
effect on the PCs - but only in one of the 3 computer labs.
I've run through the steps of most of the troubleshooting documents I could
find but they haven't really helped.
to summarise...
If I delete the group policy folders from the system32 folder, then log in,
new copies are brought down OK.
If I force an update by executing secedit /refreshpolicy user_policy
/enforce the changes (proxy restrictions mostly) take effect
The policy IS correctly associated with the users and shows in the
Workstation manager as having been executed.
I'm at a loss.
I was wondering if anyone could have a look at the debug log
file I generated and give me some idea what's happening.
Thanks.

Windows NT-2000-XP User Group Policies - Clarification - broke?
Environment ZFD 4.01 ir6
We use to use the Windows NT-2000-XP User Group Policies as a catch all for
our Windows 2000, XPsp1 and XPsp2 policies. Since applying ir6, I've
noticed it does not let me use this option anymore. Could someone clarify
my questions.
Does this mean..
I must use a Windows 2000 machine to configure the Windows 2000 policies and
save those group policies files in a different network location? Likewise,
should I use a WinXP sp1 machine, configure and save those group policies
files to a separate folder than W2K files? And then use a WinXP sp2 machine
and repeat the above? It seems that I when I use a WinXP sp2 machine to
configure the policies, my XPsp1 machines don't read the policies.
ThanksGreg,

Local Security Policies not getting applied
Hi,
We have a Windows 2012 Server which is added to Domain. We have requirement for applying some security settings on the servers. We do not want to use Group Policies for the same as we have different server in different OU's.
We have applied the policies using gpedit.msc by going to Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies
But once we run rsop.msc the settings are showing as not defined.
I tried running gpupdate /force and rebooting but no use.
Also there are some settings which are configured in Security Options but we want to change those to not defined. There is no option for the same, its only enable or disable.Hi,
I have done some tests, and getting the exact same results as yours.
It looks like settings configured within the Winning GPOs are dispalyed. For those settings which are not configured from any higher level scope, local group policy settings can be applied then.
Best Regards,
Amy -
Hi
I have a problem.
As an example, I have a Windows group policy with a single setting for Windows Update that I have associated with the Workstations Folder. Let's say the "Configure Automatic Updates" = Enabled.
Then I create another policy with the same setting but with state disabled, which I associate with a workstation group or workstation.
The problem now is that the policy setting that is associated with the workstation group/workstation does not win over the other policy setting below (Workstations Folder).
I thought that group policies closest to the workstation object would apply. Any way to control this or is there another solution?
Thanks in advance

I hope you get an answer. I have posted the exact same issue but the
policies assigned were cumulative against the user and never got a response.
