Group Policy Files Not Being Deployed to UNC Paths

When attempting to deploy files via Group Policy Preferences, there is a well-known issue wherein you may receive an error to the effect of: 0x80070003
The system cannot find the path specified. This is due to the local system being the security context used to deploy the file. If the local system does not have rights to the location, as is true with mapped drives, access is denied and the path cannot
be found. The workaround for this is to enable the common option "Run under the logged in user's security context"
However, I have done this and still receive the same error. I have verified the logged-in user can reach both the source and destination. Specifically, the source is a file server and the destination is the user's HOMEPATH,
which resides on another fileserver in this case. More to the point, it's their redirected Documents folder, and it otherwise works fine; I cannot imagine this being a permissions or connectivity issue, especially because I receive the error even if I execute
a gpupdate
/force /target:user while logged in.
I've also installed the hotfix from Microsoft pertaining to this issue: "Error
code 0x80070003 when a Group Policy preference is applied to Windows 7 clients", but this did not change anything. (I only installed it onto the desktop; that seems to be where it belongs for my case.)
I'm at a loss as to why this happens. The domain controllers agree the common option is set, and a gpupdate does otherwise succeed. Also, if I change the target to a location on a local drive of the computer, it works fine. I do not see the common option reflected
in the output of gpresult,
but I'm not sure if I should.

Before going further, how did we input the source file path and the destination file path? Did we input the paths as follows (t1.txt as an example):
Action: Create
Source file path: \\servername\sharename\username\documents\t1.txt
Destination file path:\\servername\sharename\t1.txt

W7 client machine stuck on startup "Group Policy Files Policy"

we have some w7 machine getting stuck on boot up before ctrl-alt-del, once verbose message was turned on for troubleshooting, we noticed they were stuck at "applying group policy files policy".
we had let it wait for more than 60 minutes at time and it would still be stuck. (thou mouse / kb still responsive)
this problem however, is not re-produceable on demand, if we power off the machine, it boots back up with no issues.
checking the group policy log, we didn't find anything weird, but was not sure if that's the right place to look thou.
we do have two group policy preferences pushing out host files as well as desktop shortcuts, might that be the culprit?

My recommendation: Use Group Policy Preferences as you like, but do NOT
use the "Files" extension.
Why? GP Processing at Boot/Logon is a synchronous foreground process
that cannot be interrupted (as you are already experiencing ;-)).
Replace GPP Files with a script that runs some robocopy commands. Start
this script through a scheduled task at boot or logon, so that it can
run asynchronously in the background, not disturbing the user experience.

Mapping change not being deployed

Hi All
We're experiencing an issue where any changes we make to a map or orchestration is not being deployed once the assemblies and re-deployed on the server.
I have tried the following -
1. The normal process of stopping the host instance, re-deploying the assemblies and updating them in the resources folder then restarting the host again
2. Rebooting the machine and re-deploying
Process 1. has always worked in the past, not sure what could be happening. Any clues?

Any of the following could be the cause for your problem:
May be you’re not rebuilding your artifacts like maps or orchestration. You simply build the components. Try to rebuild the artifacts, for the changes to reflect in the assembly you deploy.
I understand that you add the assemblies in Resource folder, but may be you’re not gacing them. GAC the assemblies you have updated, restart the relevant host instance. Either use the GACUTIL
command or check the ADD to GAC checkbox when you add the assemblies to the resources folder to gac the assemblies.
May be updated assembly is deployed properly, but the section of the update code is not executed (not covered in execution) because of any data/business rule. Ensure that you have correct test
data which would execute the updated code.

Usually that error can be cleared up by renaming the personal config folder. Turn on your OS's hidden files and then go to...
C: > Users > your username > AppData > Roaming > Dreamweaver (version) > your language > configuration
Rename the configuration folder configuration-old and start DW up. That should create an entirely new configuration folder and correct the menu.xml file.

I ran into the issue of the 32-bit file not being recognized in LR 5.6 after it has been saved in PS. I tried every type of file I could save a file as in CC but none of them would be recognized or said it was corrupt. I had exported 3 files to Merge in HDR Pro Photoshop as 32 bit files. I then saved in PS and returned to LR 5.6, but it said the bit depth was not supported . Is this a known issue with LR 5.6 / PS CC?

I am using windows server 2008 R2 and all my clients are running Windows 7 Enterprise and they are working over a domain, note that I am using VMware.

Outlook 2013 - wrap text group policy applied, not working with or without digital signature

I'm adding group policies to apply on our new installations of Windows 8.1 with Office 2013. One of the settings being applied is enforcing plain text emails and wrapping text at a certain number of characters. Policies are being added using the Outlook
2013 admx.
When I check the options inside Outlook 2013 the group policy did apply successfully (File, Options, Mail, scroll down to Message Format) The option to "Automatically wrap text at character:" is set to 132 and not adjustable as it should be.
In the group policy I have it set to wrap at 132 characters, but when I go to a client machine and send a digitally signed email, it wraps at the default 76 characters. This makes for very annoying short blocky emails and multi-line hyperlinks.
If I do not digitally sign the email then the text doesn't wrap at all! (until it meets the end of the window). So under no circumstances is it wrapping at 132 where it's supposed to.

What is your account type in Outlook? Exchange or others?
Please also let me know the email format that you are sending, Plain Text, HTML or Rich Text Format.
You can try sending the same emails in Outlook Safe Mode:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.

Urgent Group Policy Issue - not applying despite saying it does

Thank you for this urgent help. Auditors checking this out tomorrow morning.
We have a GPO that sets the eventlog audit settings for success or failure security events. The scope is set to Authenticated Users.
When I run the group policy wizard in GPMC it shows the settings applying to one of our servers in that OU.
When I run gpresult/z from that server it shows the policy applying to that server.
But when I go into gpedit.msc the security audit settings are all set to "not defined" and they are grayed out so I can't edit them manually.
As a test I set the GPO to deny applying to that server. I ran gpudpate/force on the system and then gpresult and it shows the GPO now not applying. But the settings are still set to not defined and still not editable. they are not being set by any other GPO.
In the event logs I only see three GPO errors but they are unrelated. A separate GPO is having issues creating user accounts. No other GPOs apply.
Quick help would be fantastic.
Server runs on Windows Server 2008 R2 (I can edit GPO but not the domain ones and I don't have access to the domain controllers).

OK, After several hours I figured it out. Turns out there's bugs and odd functionality.
If someone ever tested the 'advanced audit settings' (which I did in the same GPO at some point) then it sets a registry key to disable the use of the older basic audit settings. But when you stop using those advanced settings in your GPO it doesn't remove
that registry bit. So I used the GPO to undo that setting. This was the first step. This is found Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > "Audit: Force audit policy subcategory
settings (Windows Vista or later) to override audit policy category settings" to DISABLED.
Even though this is done, sometimes the GPO files on the domain controllers don't remove the old audit settings. So in the comments of another thread I found out you may have to go to
\\domain-fqdn\SYSVOL\domain-fqdn\Policies\{your-policy-id-where-this-setting-was-originally-set}\Machine\Microsoft\Windows NT\ and delete the Audit folder which is left behind due to some odd bug. If you don't do this even after doing the next step the
next gpupdate will bring that security setting above back down.
Next you have to reset your audit settings on your PC to the defaults. Unfortunately there is no way to do this. Auditpol /clear does not accomplish this. The only way to do this is to take the audit settings from another working system, export them and
then 'restore' those same settings to the affected server. To do this:
1. On 'working system' run cmd.exe as administrator and export the audit settings to a folder like this:
auditpol /backup /file:c:\working-auditpol-settings.txt
2. Copy that file to the broken system such as the C:\ drive and run this on the broken system:
auditpol /restore /file:c:\working-auditpol-settings.txt
Open GPEDIT.MSC and verify the audit settings are back to normal. Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Audit Policy
Then run gpupdate/force on the formerly broken system. Close gpedit.msc and reopen and verify the settings were not overwritten. If you skipped the sysvol audit folder deletion step they may come back.

Group Policy File Item Preferences Delay

We are using Group Policy Preferences to copy files from a file share to local workstations, using the "Replace" option. We are most concerned with files being updated at logon.
If the third-party macro developer makes a change to one of the distributed files and then immediately logs off and logs back in, the new version of the file is not pushed out via Group Policy. It will be updated on the next GP refresh.
Logins that occur some unknown time after this will have the new version of the file distributed. The system seems to be caching the files somehow.
A comment on this KB article suggests that the default SMB DirectoryCacheLifetime is 10 minutes, not 10 seconds - if this is the case, could this be the issue?

Seems we need traces now... I'd suggest capturing a procmon trace on
client and server side (with a filter for a test file, of course) to see
whats's going on. In my environment, I've never seen such behaviour :(

Group Policy - File Copy

I have a batch file that I need to copy to all workstations. I am trying to avoid having to create a startup or logon script to accomplish this. In Group Policy under computer configuration>Preferences>Windows Settings>File I see there is
an option to create a file and push it to the local machines. I tested this but it does not work.
When I select create as the action, the source file is set to
\\ter-trim\ker$\public\training.bat and the destination file is set to c:\training.bat but the training.bat file does not copy itself from the network share and create the file on the machine C: drive.
Am I doing something wrong?

How did we link the GPO? Did we link the GPO to the OU where computer accounts reside? Please run cmd command
gpresult/h c:\gpreport.html with administrative privileges to collect group policy result to check if the preference item was applied successfully. Besides, make sure that computer accounts have access to the source file.

November updates cause error in IE group policy files

Hi,
I reinstalled Windows 8.1 with Update today and noticed an error after installing either the IE 11 cumulative update or the optional November rollup update package. The error pops up only if either or both are installed. If they are uninstalled, the error
no longer appears.
The error pop up displays when group policy editor is opened,
"Resource '$(string.VerMgmtAuditModeEnable)' referenced in attribute displayName could not be found. File C:\windows\PolicyDefinitions\inetres.admx, line 1495, column 249."

This issue is related with the ADMX files of Internet Explorer. The error was often caused by mis-matched ADMX and ADML files.

Crossdomain.xml file not being called by the SWF

Hi,
I'm serving an swf file compiled using flex builder 3.2 through plain HTTP, the SWF file calls a service in the same domain through HTTPS, as such, I put the following file in the root directory of my web server:

When the service is invoked, I get the following error: [RPC Fault faultString="Security error accessing url" faultCode="Channel.Security.Error" faultDetail="Destination: DefaultHTTP"]
When I check the access log files of my web server (Apache), there's no entry for crossdomain.xml (it is not being requested), why?
When I serve the SWF through HTTPs it works OK ... any ideas?
I have tried in several machines (different browsers, different versions of Flash player) and no success.

I am also experiencing the exact same problem. I'm not able to change the crossdomain.xml file located in the root directory and am going to try creating a new policy file in a sub directory. The problem I'm having is that my web service is called from a virtual path and I do not know where to save this new policy file.
Have you tried to load in a specific policy file?

Also, you may want to check which sandbox your swf file is in. flash.system.Security.sandboxType. This could be another cause to the error. My swf file is in the "remote" sandbox.

Client.jar file not being generated by weblogic 6.1

I have developed a web service for our Internal network. I have deployed the web
service onto weblogic 6.1 and have been able to obtain the wsdl file. I have coded
my java client, but to compile and run the client, I require the client.jar file,
which weblogic should create on its own once the actual web service is successfully
deployed. wl server is not able able to create the client.jar file and hence I am
unable to run the client. Could anyone tell me why the client.jar file is not being
created and is there any workaround for coding the java client without using the
client.jar file.

I'm assuming that you used the <wsgen> Ant task (in your build.xml) to create this
web service, right?
Are you sure the client.jar file isn't in the web-services.war? You can verify this
by extracting this file (web-services.war) from the .ear for your web service, and
viewing its contents with WinZip (or the jar.exe utility that comes with the JDK).
There is a way to create client code without having a client.jar (or a WSDL document),
but it takes a little more work :-) I have attached a "heavily commented" example
of this, at the bottom of this post.
