Group Video Chat

I am yet to find a good tutorial or example code on how to implement a group video chatting application.  Is it possible to use RTMFP Groups to launch multiple chat windows without using point-to-point connections?  If I'm attempting to use RTMFP Groups then should I use DIRECT_CONNECTIONS or not?  I have looked over the Video Phone Sample Application but it is a 2 way communication model and I'm interested in group video chats.
Any help, resources or advice would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

I would also like to know, how do you get all peerIDs for everyone who is a member of a group.  To link up video, do you have to h
ave the explicit peerID of the user from which to pull the camera feed?  Is there a way to iterate through all users in a group and pull the camera feed?

  • Camera not an Option in Group Video Chat

Hi there.  I have a regular account with a Mac OS X.  For some reason, in Group Video Chats, the option to turn on your camera isn't available.  Any help would be appreciated.  My Skype doesn't need to be updated either.

    Hi all,
I've been using skype for years and years, and recently, I've gotten into a habit of doing group voice and video calls with friends.  We rarely use video but on occasion, it can be a nice way to show something as part of a conversation.
This group has close to a hundred people, but it's usually 3 or 4 of us on the call at any particular time.
Even running the latest Skype application version, when my Windows friends can click the video button at their liesure, my mac version, and iPhone/iPad version (although that's somewhat expected), does not show a video icon at all.  Nothing.
If I take the same people in the call and start a NEW group and then start a call, or someone else starts a new call, I have a video icon and can use my webcam normally.
What gives?  Why is mac limited for some reason?  It's very, very frustrating

  • Free Trial Group Video Chat

I've got a free 7 days Group Video Chat trial, and received a email that confirmed the trial.
But, don't know why, I just can't use the group video call!
Every time skype says that i have to use a premium account in order to use the group video call.
Does anyone know what i have to do?
    Thanks in advance.

Because one-on-one chat works correctly for you, it is possible that you, and / or one of the participants you were trying to connect with, do not have enough bandwidth to support best multi-party video. All participants must meet all the requirements, so all of you who are having problems should consider all of the following suggestions:
If any of you are using wireless connections to the internet, connecting via ethernet instead might help.
Also, check Making a group video call (Mac).
You can check the actual speed available to you by using Speedtest.net.  Do not have any other internet connected apps (like email, etc.) connected while you do the test.
If you have not restarted your entire system for a long time, shutting down everything and then restarting your modem, router, wireless access point (if it is a separate device), and computer sometimes helps improve communication speed.  Let every device complete its power-on self-test before restarting the next device in turn.
If the problem continues after you restart your system, Skype's comprehensive support system should best be able to help you use their product with your system.
You can also search or post for help with your problem in Skype's dedicated Skype Discussions for Mac.  The Skype users who post there may have already solved the same problem.
If nothing else works, you can sign in and ask for email help directly from Skype's Technical Support people.

  • Bandwidth for group video chats

    Hi everyone
A few things I would like clarified about group video chats before I set one up.
    1) Will everyone who joins the chat be able to see each other's videos? Or does only the host have access to see all the videos?
    2) How much bandwidth is taken up by a group video chat, and does this affect the host only or all users?
    3) What is the maximum number of users allowed on group video chats, including the host? I've seen various figures from 5 to 25.
Thanks, your insight on this is much appreciated!

  • IChat and google apps accounts for group video chat

Does group video chat in iChat work with Google Apps email accounts added under gtalk?

    No.
iChat can Video Chat to iChat users only in Video chats 3 or 4 ways
This can be based on  Jabber (Google Facebook Other) Buddy list or from an AIM Login list (AIM, @Mac.com or @Me.com)  but you cannot mix and match Buddies from AIM and Jabber.
Not even in 1-1 chats will iChat VIdeo Chat to:-
The GoogleTalk app (Standalone on PCs),
Any Web Browser Login to Google (Mail or iGoogle page) This uses the Google Plug-in for Video chats of which there is a Mac and PC version)
Or any Other Jabber app that would do Jabber Video
Jabber use a Connection Protocol called Jingle.
This is in those Jabber Apps that have it, the Google Standalone app, that the web Browser plugin.
It is not compatible with the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) that iChat uses.
(in fact the Google Variant of this is not that compatible with other Jabber apps)

  • Group video chat - best option?

    Dear Skype team
I work at a university, and the discipline would run a online-based program next year.
The students would be all areas - mostly in Australia but some may be located overseas.
We are expecting more than 20 students, and they would need to join the live video session at the same time.
Looking at your website, the maximum number of participants at the same time is 10. Is there any way for more participants to join?
Thank you for your prompt response.
    Regards

  • Can OS X server xmpp server do group chats, video chats and group video chats??

    Question is above!! :)

We actually don't use a whole lot of data on the server - with video there's a lot of data involved but it's generally stored locally on individual raided drives and backup drives. Working with probably less than 1TB of total data that will be connected directly to the server to be shared. So I'm looking at a 4TB RAID 0 drive to hook up to it.
Read a little about Rumpus. Are you suggesting it as an alternative to OS X Server or something to work in conjunction with it?
The most important thing is for us to be able to send out links to files on the server for clients to view, and also for clients to have the ability to upload to us. I'm assuming this can be accomplished via Filezilla or Cyberduck if we didn't want to invest in Rumpus? I'll have to do more research on that. Just don't want to present this option to my boss and drop the cash on it only for it to not end up serving our needs.
    Thanks!

  • Group Video Chat Subscription

I am in need of a platform for conducting workshops for the next month only.  How can I get the subscription to only take on a month and me not have to go in and end the subscription?
And if that is not an option, how do I go about ending the subscription before it charges me again?  And when I do go in and end it, will it end it on my end of month or on the day that I make the request?  And how does the month work?  Is it a 28 day month? Or does it just fit the exact month, ie August 31?  Or is it from the 2nd of the month to the 2nd of the next month?

It might be that your payment method is Skype Credit and if you don't have enough balance to cover 3 or 12 months then these options will be disabled.
Try changing the payment method on the left side when you are presented with 1, 3 and 12 month options: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1781/How-can-I-pay-for-a-subscription#2

  • Skype Group Video: Free for everyone or not?

I've been paying for Skype Premium for 2 years now for group video chat.  Now I read EVERYWHERE including Skype's website that says Skype Group Video chat is now free.   So I chat with a Skype customer service guy to find out why I was charged for Skype Premium and why I even need it anymore. He tells me Group Video is NOT free for everyone and that it's coming in the near future.  I asked him why the FRONT PAGE of Skype.com says it's free and all he says it that it's not free.
Anyone know what the deal is?
Here's page 2-3 for our chat log:

Indeed we had some changes recently with Group Video calling becoming a free feature in Skype. Some further reading here: http://blogs.skype.com/2014/04/28/skype-loves-bringing-groups-together-with-free-group-video-calling...
We therefor upgraded Skype Premium subscriptions as detailed here: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34454/what-s-new-with-group-video-calling
The Skype Premium subscription you have includes an unlimited calling option to a country of your choice. This should get upgraded to an "Unlimited World" subscription allowing you to call 60+ countries while keeping the same subscription price. This upgrade hasn't seem to have happened yet for your account though.
If you don't think you will use the calling subscriptions please follow the instructions here to cancel your subscription. Then follow the instructions here to request a refund: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA297/how-do-i-request-a-refund

  • Group Video Call

    Hello,
My company  is exploring upgrading to Business Skype. We would like the ability to host Group Video Chats, the main concern here is, do the other parties need to also have business skype in order to participate in the Group Video Chat.
We would like to upgrade to Business Skype to have this functionality while not forcing our customers to have to upgrade. Please provide me with more information as well as rates/Subscription fees.
    Thank you.

    Hi HWSands,
The quick answer to your question is 'No'.  Your customers do not have to business Skype accounts to join your Group Video Conference.  Only the host is required to have the Group Video Calling subscription.  The cost of group video calling is GBP£4.99 per month.
If you would like more information about how to use Skype in your business please get in touch.
    I hope this helps.

  • Does Skype now allow multiple video chats during c...

I was doing a Skype video call recently and I had a couple of people in the conversation.  One of the people had his web cam on and everyone else had their web cams off.  The person who had his on had some old plan or feature in place on his account that allowed for mulitple video chats in a call when Skype did not support that feature with newer accounts at the time.  All of a sudden, I saw a message appear on the screen about being able to add multiple video chats to my Skype call for free. Has Skype really gone and added the capability of multiple video conferences during a call?

Group Video Chats are now FREE.
