Grouping and resizing screen controls

The manual says this:
To group screen controls:
1 Select the screen controls you want to group together.
2 Choose Group from the workspace Action menu (or press Command-Option-G).
The screen controls are grouped. Moving one of the grouped controls moves the
others, and resizing one of the grouped controls resizes the others.
However, when I try that and then try to resize a group, only the control that I'm resizing actually resizes. Can someone else try this and then point me to the stupid thing that I'm missing?
yes, all the controls (9 sliders, 8 buttons, 8 knobs) are "merged" before "grouping"
Thanks,
Stewart

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).<br />
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />

    Hi Tilo.
I have a mother who is with an ISP which issues a new IP address every time she starts up.
I have set her Mac up with Loopware's (free, thank you Loopware) IPMenu. (Thinks. Must make a donation.)
    See http://loopware.com/ipmenu/download.php
This can_be/is set up to send me an email everytime that her address changes, and it is working very well.
Now all I have to do is work out how to get her to set up everything else for an internet connection, when I finally work out what needs doing at both ends.
    She & I are both getting a bit old & slow <grin? more groan>

  • How can one change the channel of a screen control within Mainstage?

The issue that I'm having is that some 3rd party apps (Dimension Pro in particular) seem to receive Sustain (64) messages on only Midi Channel 1
I'm using a multi zone controller, with sounds set in MainStage to respond to different channels. I've got it all working well except . . Dimension Pro won't "see" a controller message if it's sent from any channel other than channel 1.
I was even having the same problem with certain sounds in Kontakt.
So the question is . . how can one shift the channel of these messages over to channel 1?
Better question, how can I get Dimension Pro to respond to a controller on a channel other than 1, but I suspect this is not the forum for such questions!
    Thanks in advance,

    MacOS 10.7.3
    MainStage 2.1.3
Axiom 61 (2nd gen) keyboard controller

You may be able to achieve the desired results by a different method. I have an Axiom, but I don't assign zones in it. I just send one zone to Mainstage and handle it all there. You can layer and or split a practically unlimited number of instruments and assign screen controls easily. You probably want to set up all screen controls at the concert level in layout mode. You can later override concert mapping in individaul patches if you want. For instance, you could use an expression pedal for volume(7) on one patch and for modulation(1) on another patch. You can send that control to one instument channel strip or you can choose to send to all. To do this, select a screen control in edit mode. In the screen control inspector, check the overide concert mapping box. You will then see two additional tabs-mappings and unmapped. Select the mappings tab. In the mapping list, double-click "Unmapped". You can the map the screen control to any single  instrument channel strip in this list or send to all. Select one and then choose a mapping destination. If you want to map expression to one instrument and not others there's another way. Select an instrument channel strip, then selct MIDI input in the software channel strip inspector. Check the filter expression box. This instument will now not respond to expression, but the other intruments in this patch will. You can filter some other events on this page. The layer editor tab allows you full control ol splits and layering options of all your instruments in this patch. Hope this helps.

  • Infotype screen control

    Hi,
Can anyone help me with the difference between the STD and RF screen control option for the fields of an infotype in the table T588M?
I understand that both STD and RF option makes a field mandatory. Also, 'STD' means standard Setting and 'RF' means required field at the outset.
But please let me know the exact difference between them.
    Warm Rgds,
    Arun.M

    Hi Arun;
Actually they are not same. There is difference.
STD is standard and RF is required field.
Normally STD is coming with the system standard. I mean if that field is important for every company etc, I mean that field is required for every entry then STD means same thing with RF. But in some conditions some fields are not mandatory in the system standard. So when it is STD in T588M you can leave this fields empty.
But RF makes the field reuired field anyway and you need to enter a value to save the infotype.
Hope I could explain it clearly.
    Regards.

  • After moving and resizing control, some controls don't redraw properly as the cursor passes over them.

I have a top-level VI with three panes (two splitters).  One of the panes contains nested tab controls.  One of the tab pages contains six XY-graphs, a table and some decorations.
I use a subVI to resize and relocate the tabs and contained controls.  All this is working fine, and everything looks fine after the resizing is complete.
The problem is when the cursor passes over certain controls (the chart legends and the table column headers for example), they redraw with gray boxes.  The problem only occurs after enlarging the window from its minimum size.  It goes away if the window is resized back down to minimum.
Anything that causes the window to redraw, like another resize or minimize/restore, properly refreshes the screen.
Has anyone seen this problem, and have a workaround?
The problem exists in development environment or built in LV 9.01 or LV 2010.
    Thanks!

Thanks again for taking a look at my problem.
force redraw - This is apparently only available in LV2010.  I did give at a try, but it did not prevent the problem, nor did it correct the problem once the gray boxes appeared.
disable updates (on a graph) - This apparently only applies to 3-D graphs, which is not what I am using in this case.
disable front panel updates - I tried disabling updates before moving/resizing the front panel controls, then re-enabling updates afterwards.  The problem is exactly the same as before.  Once the move/resize is complete, passing the mouse over the table column headers or the graph plot legend results in the gray boxes.
I would appreciate any other suggestions you may have.
Again... the problem is not that the moving and resizing don't work.  They work fine.  But once the resizing is complete, passing the mouse over the legend or table column headers causes gray boxes to appear.
    Thanks!

  • On-Screen Keyboard and a String Control

I am experiencing some odd behavior when I use the On-Screen keyboard (OSK) and a string control.
I am developing a application that will need to use the OSK to enter in some data on a touch screen monitor with no physical keyboard. I have a Event-Driven State Machine set up to the Key Down event when a word/characters are entered and the user presses the Enter Key on the OSK. I noticed if I probe the VKey wire wuen I press the Enter Key on the OSK, it comes across as a Return press. No big deal I thought, just see if the Return Key is pressed and continue on.
When I went to test my program, I noticed that my values were displaying as if nothing was entered. Digging a little further, I noticed that my original data is still there if I press the Backspace Key and remove the Return command. Probing the string wire within the string control indicates that that the value comes back as a empty string in my string control even though my entire string is physically still there. I can press the backspace key (deleting the carriage return) and see my original text. What I think is happening is when I press the Return Key on the OSK, it inserts something and moves my text either up or down and when I use the property node to extract the data within the string control, I get a empty string.
How have you gotten around this? I'd like to hear your solutions.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Since you marked Jarle's message as the solution, I hope it means your happy and he's helped you solve your problem.
I had never seen the OSK app before.  It looks like it can be very useful, but these other issues like how to programmatically get into it, or out of it with a task kill seem like they are a bit of a hack to work with something that shows so much promise.
If these issues are too big, consider making your home pop-up keyboard as a LabVIEW VI.  It would be a little bit of work, but not so bad.  I've made a pop-up numeric keyboard that I've used in a few apps of mine.  Of course that is fewer keys to layout and deal with.  And I didn't need decimals for what I was doing so I didn't have to program that which adds a little complication.
A pop-up keyboard might actually be easier, other than having 3-4 times the number of keys depending on how many symbols you need to deal with, and if you need to deal with CAPS, or CAPS lock or whatever.
There is also a chance that someone may have done something already.  A google search might find something.  It is likely in the NI community if it exists.  If you can find something that works or is close to what you want, it might be better than using this OSK executable.
Just some ideas to toss out there.

Now, I downloaded a couple apps that I need, and no matter what I did, the spinning ball came up and the download stopped till it unlocked itself. It is really frustrating because the download was not completed and whatever came through would not mount. Could this issue be the internet connection? Permission fix showed a lot of Airport issues. I will try to run permissions fix again.

Do you think this product is possible?

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • MISSION CONTROL, LAUNCHPAD, and FULL SCREEN APPS (one month later)

I'm pretty good embracing a new thing when it comes along.  I downloaded LION the day it come out, which was over a month ago at this point. On that day, I immediately found MISSION CONTROL and LAUNCHPAD both uninituitve and pointless.  Unhandy iCandy.   And of FULL SCREEN APPS?  Not necessary on an iMac anyway.
So I quickly sought out quick solutions to 'fix' these new features.  Launchpad and full screen apps have the advantage that they can be simply ignored.  This is a good thing.  Mission Control, on the other hand, got in the way of a beloved feature for me:  what was once SPACES and EXPOSE.  That is, I couldn't simply ignore MC because I still needed the previous helpful features in Snow Leopard.
My solution was kind of surprising and eye-opening.  It's complicated to explain but I thought I'd share.  This conclusion is likely best suited for someone not using a small screened Mac.  It turns out that most users (with big enough screens) don't really need Mission Control, Launchpad, Spaces, or Full Screen apps.
    At all.
Let's go through that conclusion, one by one:
    FULL SCREEN APPS
If you have a relatively big screen (20 iMac for instance), why do you need Safari full screen?  Unless you intend to sit across the room from the computer, no reason.  And there's lots of bright empty space when you do this.  Do you need the Mail app full screen?  If you need reading glasses, maybe, but otherwise, nope.  I find it's easier just to stretch out an app pretty big and leave it at that.
Full screen apps DO offer a nice feature which is making your desktop, menubar, and dock go BYE BYE.  I can see where sometimes this is a useful feature, but typically -- NOPE.  Typically I want access to my dock (to switch between open apps without the added step of cancelling full screen first), and typically I want access to my menubar so that I can glance up and see what time it is or find an app menu quickly.
The only feature I find worthy of praise with full screen apps is that they hide the clutter on your desktop.  But there's an app in the Mac App Store which makes your desktop icons vanish with the touch of a button (CAMOUFLAGE).  I mean, what's the point of a wallpaper if you bury it with desktop clutter or eliminate it with full screen apps?  If it's a busy and distracting wallpaper, umm... you picked bad wallpaper.
    LAUNCH PAD
LAUNCH PAD offers an iOS experience inside OS X.  At first I thought it was completely silly.  After a month now, I kinda get why it's there.  Kinda.
You see, before LP, to duplicate it's functionality, you'd have to organize folders yourself.  Put folders of various apps together.  Place them somewhere in the finder heirarchy.  Then drag those folders into the part of the dock with the trashcan.  Then you could click them open and have access to similarly themed folders of apps.  The problem here, of course, is that unless you're a power user, you'll never do this.
So Apple thought, AH-HA, we'll just drag into OS X a paradigm that users already get from iOS.  Clumping apps together any way you like them.  The misfire, if you ask me, is not allowing users to drag the new iOS folders straight into the dock when finished.  That is to say:  copies of said organized folders.  It's as if Apple's software people have complete contempt for the dock -- and are desperate to have users abandon it.
My problem is that I like having folders in my dock of stuff I need.  It just works, as Steve says.  Going to the same EXACT place every time I need anything is more intuitive and graceful than ADDING an app called Launchpad that launches you into a different finder altogether.  Makes zero sense and THIS is why I say, like FULL SCREEN APPS, LP can basically be abandoned.
By the way:  need proof that Apple has complete contempt for the Dock?
    MISSION CONTROL/SPACES
A month has passed since MC was introduced and SPACES was eliminated.  I dare anyone to tell me why either is needed at all.  Before you get iMiffed, humor me for a moment and hear me out.
The notion of SPACES was that it's a neat way to keep like minded open apps together.  I totally bought into this, back in the day.  So much so that I was iMiffed when it was gone in Lion.  But let's look at this closer.
The REASON why we needed SPACES was that we could have WAY too many windows open at once on a Mac.  Right?  A big mess of windows covering each other up.  Suppose you're surfing in Safari but need iTunes?  But iTunes is hidden.  So what did you do?  You went to Spaces as step one, moused over to your iTunes space as move two, and then clicked it as move three.  Seems like a great solution until the day you discover that you could simply click on iTunes in the dock as move one and arrive at iTunes.  As one step.  Period.  Really simple, right?
Why have Spaces and apps dance around when you can just click the app you want and be done with it?  That's the critical observation to make in order to follow my entire line of reasoning.  Sure, it may look really cool and make Windows machines look like junk, but at the end of the day, why add two steps to something you might do 100 times a day -- switching between apps.
So why OH why did Apple add Spaces?  Simple:  because too many apps were visible at once in one 'desktop' window.  So if you can build many new desktops, there might only be one or two in each.  Great solution.  Right?
Wrong, as it turns out.  Because we still have the two extra steps.  It's a weak solution.  And it's in complete contempt of the Dock, which as it turns out, offers the strongest solution.
The strong solution would be that only one app is visible in your Mac's window at all times.  Say you're in Safari.  Despite having 12 other apps open, you only see Safari.  Your dock tells you that you have other apps open, but nothing else sits in your window BUT the app you're using.  So you want to go to iTunes?  So click on it in the dock and Safari vanishes and iTunes emerges by itself.  No other windows.  What could be simpler?  (This app is freeware known as ISOLATOR.)
If you download and try ISOLATOR, you'll say, umm, okay, but wait:  sometimes I do want more than one window in view.  Okay, fine, turn it off then.  From the handy menu bar menu.  I find that 98% of the time I need ISOLATOR on.  Mileage may vary.
So let's recap.  One third party software removes distracting desktop clutter, the other removes distracting app windows.  Both can be toggled on and off from the menu bar.  One is free, one costs $2.  These two solutions remove the only real feature of FULL SCREEN APPS and make SPACES and it's newfangled cousin MISSION CONTROL pointless.
Need that last one explained?  Well, what's Mission Control but a variant of spaces?  To invoke MC and switch to the needed window are those same two annoying steps Spaces added into the mix.  Nothing was fixed.  Plus, like spaces, you must invest time and energy organizing such spaces.
Why bother?  And so I ask again:  can somebody who's read and tried the above carefully explain to me why Mission Control, Launchpad, and Full Screen Apps are really needed at all?  (Outside of small screened Macs.)  Doesn't the dock and these two sharewares together solve most problems?
    Am I missing something?

I agree with everything you said about full screen apps, mission control and launchpad. For apps that made sense to run full screen, they already could under SL. Launchpad is totally unnecessary and Mission Control is a mere shadow of Expose and Spaces.
However, I feel you have not given due credit to Spaces. The point of Spaces is to let one organise logical desktops for different tasks, not just a way to reduce the number of windows on display. For example, I have a Space for software development where I run Xcode and the iPhone simulator, a Firefox window showing perhaps documentation or some other websites pertaining to software development, a Finder window that is opened in the folder with my design docs. I have another Space where I have the remote login sessions, yet another Space with another Firefox window where I do general surfing and emailing. I can switch between these spaces using a keyboard shortcut, which is much quicker than having to lift my hand off the keyboard, move it over to the mouse, move the mouse pointer over the Dock, find the app and click on it, only to find that it has switched to the wrong window of the app.
Without Spaces, organisation of my desktop is disrupted each time I want to switch task, whereas Spaces allows me to drop everything I am doing, go and do something completely different for a while and go back to my exact previous environment. I have a 27" iMac so am not short of screen space but I use Spaces extensively. BTW, switching Spaces using a keyboard shortcut is a lot faster on SL than the equivalent on Lion, thanks to the gratuitous screen animation of the latter.
