Grouping channels in Audition?

Hi,
Ok, I seem to be looking for an answer to this question by asking the wrong questions. I am moving to a new setup and my studio and using Audition CC to record but I seem to be lacking the proper Audition terminology.....
What I want to do is take several tracks in a mix - say all the drum tracks - and assign them to a group where I can control that group via one fader in the mx. ie - so I can control the overall volume of a drum mix in the main mix without having to adjust the individual tracks in the mix itself. I am coming from using a Mackie D8B and assigning tracks to a group and using the group fader was very easy.
My understanding of a mix group and what my current manuals on Audition tell me about groups in Audition seem to be rather vastly different.
Can anyone enlighten me on this process in Audition?
Thanks!

That would probably be the 'manual' then - the process is essentially identical!
The only thing that Durin didn't mention was how you actually assign the channels. The easiest way, once you've set up the bus, is to go to the track output routing at the bottom of each mixer channel (where it normally says 'Master' and assign that particular channel to the bus there.

  • Layer Group Channel blending, incorrect colors

    Hello!
    Wanted to bring up an issue that has troubled me in Photoshop for years, with the hope of it gaining some traction for fixing. For a while now (unsure which version), it was possible to set a Layer Group to filter/isolate a specific channel. This is a very useful feature for me, in creating channel masks for game assets and for use in real time shader techniques. However, it has a very large flaw that has made the feature largely unusable - and I'm surprised others have not had the issue as well as it should affect print as well (if in a lesser effect).
    When you use this feature, and essentially mask the contents of a layer to the Red, Green, or Blue channels, the layers in those Groups are still hit by color management, which results in the pixels drawing and blending incorrect colors. an example:
    In the first file, each group is set to blend to a specific channel, and a black to white gradient is applied in that layer.
    In the second file, those same layers are copied and pasted into the channels of a new RGB document. The file already looks very different.
    Finally, in the 3rd file the two layers are compared using the Difference blend mode. Can observe the difference between the two layers here, which is a result of the first method (Layer Grouping) not blending the pixels properly as if they were a channel - which when using the R/G/B blend masking on Group Properties, is what should be expected.
    When i use this technique of pushing certain black and white images into a channel, they are made for a specific purpose and function. Since the layer group blending alters what the values of those pixels are (very important for real time shader creation) in the final file, it makes this amazingly useful feature unusable. I would LOVE to be able to have Layer Group channel blending be a part of my workflow, instead of constantly copying and pasting into channels. I have created various scripts to save these types of files out easier, but i could greatly simplify them by being able to save this 'RGB Mask' file directly from my PSD.
    Wanted to share and start a discussion about it, to see if it would be possible to get a fix for this in the future!
    thanks!

  • I am unable to group clips on audition

    I am trying to group clips on audition.  On a mac, I hit command A to highlight the file, Clip, groups, and the group  clips font is faded out.  Wont let me group clips.  Any ideas why this is happening?

    Possibly because you're trying to do it in Waveform view? It only works in Multitrack view.

    Hi Marius,
    The problem was in your channel referencing.  When you ask DIAdem to do something to or with a data channel and provide only the channel name (no Group information) DIAdem simply finds the first channel in the DataPortal that matches that channel name.  So you were looping through all the groups but in several operations manipulating always the channels from the first Group.  Here's code that references by channel number that appears to work correctly on my computer when loading 3 files:
    For iCount = 0 To Ubound(MyFileNames)   FileName = NameSplit(MyFileNames(iCount), "N")  Call GroupCreate(FileName)   Call GroupDefaultSet(GroupCount)  Call DataFileLoadSel(MyFileNames(iCount), "CSV", "[1]/[3-4]")   ForceCh = CNoXGet(GroupCount, 1)
      TravelCh = CNoXGet(GroupCount, 2)   ChnName(ForceCh) = "Opening Force"  ChnName(TravelCh) = "Travel Distance"    Call ChnSmooth(ForceCh, ForceCh, 12, "maxNumber")   Call ChnSmooth(TravelCh, TravelCh, 12, "maxNumber")  R1 = CMax(TravelCh)   Row = PNo(TravelCh, R1)  Call DataBlDel(TravelCh, Row, 2000, 1)   'Call PicLoad("D:\BOF-MIU\Scripts\BForce_Multiload.TDR"  'Call PicUpdate Next ' iCount

  • 500 Internal Server Error - Channel Monitoring Audit Log

    Hi Experts,
    We are facing an error in the 'Audit Log' of the communication channel monitoring of a File Sender Adapter.
    The channel uses a custom written Java Module which uses XSLT parser internally. The audit log displays the following error:
    500   Internal Server Error
    Error: "Application error occurred during the request processing."
    Troubleshooting Guide https://sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/jsts/home
    Details: "The WebApplicationException log ID is [4698F300D2C40C2000000000000009AA]."
    This error occurs both when the file is processed successfully or when in error. In case of a positive test case file, we can even see the message reaching Pipeline (SXMB_MONI). But only the audit log does not show the processed steps in the channel monitoring and displays the above error message.
    We have even established that the cause of the error is Java Module (First, we executed by removing our custom Java Module from the module steps and the audit log showed the steps correctly. But by putting the module back in the channel, the error resumed).
    Initially, the error was not coming and we were able to test this properly. But over the time the audit log error started. Now, we are not able to get rid of this even by restarting the channel or restarting the Java stack of the server.
    To me, it seems like a memory issue in the Java Stack.
    Any thoughts?
    Can we find out where to find the details of the WebApplicationException log ID displayed above?
    Thanks,
    Sudheer

  • Error -2500 while writing new channel groups / channels to tdm-file

    I'm creating a tdm-file using the express vis provided by LabView. Everything goes fine in opening the file and setting the file parameters.
    When i'm using the write data-express vi to create a new channel group and setting it's parameters i receive an "error -2500" accompanied with the call chain of the vi.
    I'm setting the parameters by using a terminal on the express vi and by using the value setting in the express vi configuration. Any ideas what might cause this error?

    I solved it. I made the error to begine some of the properties names with a number, eg. 1s for 1 sigma. I renamed them to sigma_1s and it works.

  • Is there anyway to group channels together

    I hve the Spanish add on for example, and the spanish channels are all over the dial. I'd like to group together for channel surfing, how do I do it?
    For Example, i'd like to group 1663, 1724,1549, 1685, 1686, 1540, 1680, 1681, 1536, 1702-1707, 1563, 10, 277, 23, 20, 1722, 1520, 1741, 1521, 1503, 1523 ------you get the idea. I want to be able to hit up or down arrow and stay within the channels I've group without having to look at the guide and try to figure out what the next posible station is with the programming I want. Can you do this somehow? i'm an educational TV fan to and I'd like to group together the Dsicorvery, history, PBS, Net Geo adn so forth too. I want to channel surf without missing some of my favoite channels, how do I group them together so I can channel surg with the up/down arrows?
    Thanks!

    Verizon allows you to create two channel groups, Favorites1 and Favorites2. These can be set from either the options key on the remote, or by selecting Favorites in  Menu>'settings. Unfortunately there are only two such groups, and only 1 can be 'active' at one time.
    Stetting them up can be quite tedious because you can either add all channels to the favorites list, and then delete the ones you don't want one by one, or you can just add the channels to the favorites list one by one.
    You can then set your STB/DVR to only tune to channels  that are in the currently selected favorite group with channel up/channel down. The channels that are not in the currently selected favorite channel list will be skipped over by channel up/down, but are still accessible by entering the channel number they are on.

  • Create sub-group or sub-channel in TDMS file?

    Hello All,
      I have been presented with a situation where I am required to log data that is arranged in a multi-level hierarchy.  My preferred method for data logging is the TDMS format, but it is unclear if I can log more than 2 levels of hierarchy with this option.  In the terminology of TDMS file, I would need to create "sub-groups" or "sub-channels" so that all of the data can still be arranged within the same parent group.  Is this type of data arrangement possible with a TDMS file?
    Thanks,
    GSinMN

    My understanding is that TDMS files are set at 3 levels of hierarchy: File, Group, Channel.  You could probably name the groups to show a parent group such as "Parent:Group".

  • Audit Universe - Group Details

    Hi,
    I wanted to extract group information from Audit Universe so I have written this derive SQL but this doesn't help much.
    If a User is in HR Power User, Finance Report Consumer etc groups then it displays the result as
    User Everyone
    User Everyone | HR Power User
    User Everyone | HR Power User | Finance Report Consumer
    and there is no way to find out which are the groups that a user is currently in. It has one entry for every group a user was ever added or removed from.
    If someone has a better derived SQL for extracting Group information please let me know.

  • Add User to Group Behavior

    Hi all
    I found
    this post that explains the same issue I'm having, but the marked answer isn't relevant to my environment. I've built a user creation runbook, using 2012 R2 and this
    Active Directory Integration Pack. Everything works properly, except I'm getting strange security log events when using the Add User to Group activity.
    In one of the tests, I added a single user that was being created to about 100 different groups. Let's say one group has 50 members. When the user gets added to that group, the security audit shows that 50 users were removed from the group, and then those
    50 users were added back plus my new user. It shows this activity for every group that the user was added to. I get the following two actions for every member of the group:
    Member '-' was removed from 'Domain\Group' by 'Domain\User' on...
    Member 'DN of Member' was added to 'Domain\Group'...
    This is a problem because it makes our audit reports and notifications worthless since we'd have to read through all the noise to see an actual anomaly. I'm also concerned that if users are actually being removed and re-added to those groups, that there
    could be some consequences of that that we aren't seeing yet (i.e. application access interruptions, or what if the connection to AD is lost after removing the users but before adding them back in). Although I should say I'm not convinced that the users are
    actually being removed because as you can see above, no member information is recorded on the removal, and all the removals and additions have the same exact time stamp meaning they occurred within 1 second, which seems pretty fast given that some of our groups
    are large.
    Is this the intended behavior of the Add User to Group activity? If so, is there a workaround I can use to avoid this behavior? The next thing I'll try is using PowerShell to add the user to the group, but this option isn't ideal since the runbook will be
    managed by users who are not that familiar with scripting, so I'd like the solution to contain as little as possible.
    Thanks

  • VIEW won't display channels with same names

    Hello,
    We have recently installed DIAdem 2010 and are beginning to find channel name problems that we didn't have before with 9.1.
    Traditionally we have always set the name-oriented channel references to 'only channel name' and we have never had any problems when displaying multiple traces in VIEW. Now, we find that when we display more than one trace in VIEW with channel names that are repeated we get problems with the axis system display dialogue box. This dialogue box tells me that the X and Y channel names AND NUMBERS are the same for all three traces when in fact the data displayed is different. If I try and change one of the channels it immediately reverts back to the first channel with that name.
    I have attached a screen dump to help explain. The image shows a VIEW window with three speed time histories from three separate data files that have been loaded together. The three X channels will all be named 'time' but will be channel numbers 1, 4 and 7. The Y channnels are all 'speed km\h' and are numbered 2, 5 and 8. However, the dialogue box shows that all three traces are made from channels 1 and 2 despite the three traces appearing different. If I change one of the 'time' channels from number 1 to, say, number 4, then it reverts back to number 1 as soon as I move the focus to somewhere else in the box. Version 9.1 never had this problem.
    If I swith the name-oriented channel references to '[group index]/channel name' then the problem goes away - even thought the data displayed in the graph is the same!
    I'm not entirely clear on the reasons for settling on 'name only' references - probably historical - but I am even less clear on the effect of switching to '[group index]/channel name', particularly with the many autosequences that we use.
    Is this a bug that can be fixed?
    Regards, Si.

    Simon,
    The DataFinder is a database that DIAdem installs that integrates directly into the NAVIGATOR, so that you can easily query data files/groups/channels or compile properties from multiple files into correlated curves on a graph, etc.  You might be interested in the ability to look inside your data files in the NAVIGATOR to see the group/channel structure and their properties.  This is particularly interesting if you wan to load selected groups/channels from one or more files.

  • Strange PDC issue when inserting compressor on a group with side chain

    Hi Forum People!
    Seem to have hit a brick wall trouble shooting this issue, and hope someone here can help.
    Whenever I insert a compressor on a bus, and send a sidechain trigger to the compressor, PDC stops working for all multi-output synths. I can sidechain stereo tracks without an issue, but not group tracks with mutliple tracks routed through the groups.
    For the record, as soon as I remove the send to the sidechain, PDC works normally.
    Is this a limitation of Logic's PDC, or is there a workaround that I haven't discovered?
    Many thanks for your time
    Steve

    LOL! Sorry, didn't have time to respond yesterday. The problem was the way in which I'd set-up the group. Here's how I had the group set up, which broke PDC:
    I created an auxiliary track (the group), inserted a compressor, and routed my drums direct to this group.
    Here's how I fixed the problem:
    instead of creating an aux channel for the group, I routed my drum outputs through an unused bus, which in turn created the group channel automatically.
    I've only been using Logic for 1 month, having used Cubase for nearly 20 years, so realizing some things are done very differently.
    Thanks chaps!
    Steve

    ============

    I have tested on my DEVELOPMENT DB again. It is working fine. It requires to reconnect after turn off the DROP ANY TABLE. Have you done that? Send me output of test you performed.
    You can test using following script.
    connect as USER2 & execute following statements.
    audit drop any table;
    create table user1.test(
    col1 number,
    col2 number);
    select os_username, username, action_name, priv_used
    from dba_audit_trail a
    where action = 85
    and obj_name = 'TEST';
    truncate table user1.test;
    select os_username, username, action_name, priv_used
    from dba_audit_trail a
    where action = 85
    and obj_name = 'TEST';
    noaudit drop any table;
    reconnect here as USER2
    truncate table user1.test;
    select os_username, username, action_name, priv_used
    from dba_audit_trail a
    where action = 85
    and obj_name = 'TEST';

  • Calculate difference between channels

    I have some temperature channels from a sample. I need to calculate the ROA (Rise over Ambient) for each of these channels.
    So I want to take each channel and subtract the ambient channel from it. I can do it using the basic mathematics under the analysis tab but I have a lot of channels to compile and I am not sure how to automate this. I would like the new channel to have the original name plus ROA added to it.
    Thanks

    Hi chandler,
    "GroupCount" will tell you the current number of groups.  "GroupChnCount(GroupIndex)" will tell you the number of channels in each group.  "CNoXGet(GroupIndex, ChannelIndex) will return a channel reference to the particular channel in a group that you're looping over.  This approach will work in all DIAdem versions that have Groups, starting with 9.0.
    In DIAdem 11.0 we introduced the "Data" variable, which makes all this much more obvious, if not less complicated:
         Data.Root.ChannelGroups.Count
         Set Group = Data.Root.ChannelGroups(GroupIndex)
         Group.Channels.Count
         Set Channel = Group.Channels(ChannelIndex)
