Grouping MobileMe calendars

The new MobileMe calendar is nice for collaboration.
But there is one thing that really annoys me:
In iCal all calendars from other MobileMe accounts, that I have subscribed to, are listed under my MobileMe account. If these calendar have the same name, they become indistinguishable as there is no reference, who is the owner of these calendars.
I would have expected, subscribed calendar are listed under the MobileMe account of the owner.
Unfortunately calendar groups don't work either with subscribed calendars, in fact, they don't even work with my own MobileMe calendars, but only with local (non-synced) calendars.
Has anybody found a workaround  or plist hack to group MobileMe calendars in iCal, especially those you have subscribed to?
Peter

I'm having a very similar issue, too. Tried the beta and did not like it or the current restrictions it places (no groups, slow syncs). So when I deactivated it and reopened the current iCal, it does not show any of these in the iPhone's Calendar app. It shows other subscribed and the Exchange calendars, but no MobileMe ones.
I, too, restarted the MobileMe settings on the iPhone and did a full replacement from the Mac desktop over the MobileMe versions. The calendars all show up correctly on the Mac and the MobileMe browser versions, but still no calendars on the iPhone.
I know w/ 3rd party apps, you can at least remove the app and all its preferences so a fresh install can be done. However, w/ Calendar & MobileMe being core elements on the iPhone, I don't know how to further reset this app...short of a full-blown iPhone wipe. Not in the cards!!

How do you change the color of a MobileMe calendar group?

Are you using MobileMe? If not, the colors do not match unless you implement the rather painful workaround of loading the calendars one at a time, in the order that the iPhone assigns them (red, orange, blue, green, purple).

  • New mobileme calendar

I upgraded to the new mobileme calendar and now when I open ical I have 2 calendar groups. 1 group called "on my mac" and one for "mobileme". I don't understand why there are 2. Before I had just 1 calendar on iCal and it was automatically synced with mobileme. Now when I add an event am I supposed to add to mobileme or "on my mac" or both? Anyone know how this is supposed to work?

    Greetings,
You may want to go to the New Calendar section on the MobileMe support page and review it's contents. It has good information on the function of the New Calendar: http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/
The "On My Mac" section are local calendars that exist only on the computer.
__Add calendars here if you want them to only be visible on this specific Mac
The "MobileMe Account" section are server based calendars that appear on MobileMe, your computer, and any other computer/device to which you add your MobileMe account (this takes the place of syncing the calendar as the calendar simply appears on all these devices).
__Add / make changes to Calendars listed here to see the changes appear wherever this MobileMe account is used.
If you are seeing the same calendars listed under both sections follow this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3505
I deleted all my "On My Mac" calendars and only have the ones under the MobileMe category.
    Hope that helps.

  • MobileMe calendars gone missing

    Hello!
I tried the new MobileMe calendar beta and became so interested that I wanted to start using MobileMe as my primary private web calendar. However I am experiencing some strange issue when I wanted to make the MobileMe calendars available on my iPhone (3GS running 4.0.1).
I am currently using Exchange 2007 from work and GMail (and a couple of subscribe calendars). When I first choose to activate Calendar from the MobileMe account (present since I got my iPhone) I got a question if I wanted to merge the calendars present on my iPhone with MobileMe's. I choose the alternative but I never got the syncing to work since the iPhone never should any events from MobileMe (they are present if I access the calendars through the web or iCal).
I then turned off MobileMe calendars on my iPhone (and chose to delete them). I hoped this would somehow reset them. Now I am even worse than before though. If I activate the calendars in the Settings part of iOS MobileMe doesn't even show up in the Calendar app (i e not present when I press the little blue Calendar button up left).
I have tried deleting the MobileMe account from the iPhone and readding it but it doesn't help. How do I get this working correctly again?

  • ICal keeps MobileMe calendars no matter what

I synced my iCal with my MobileMe account and now the calenders stay in there no matter what I do. Calendar "Syncronize iCal" in iCal preferences is unchecked, same in the MM preference pane, I even signed out of MM completely – the calendars are still there. Any idea what went wrong here?
    Thanks a ton in advance.
    V

If you have not upgraded to the new MobileMe calendar, then calendars live 'On My Mac' (and are just listed in the sidebar without any grouping); stopping syncing simply stops changes being transmitted to MobileMe. You can delete a calendar, if that's what you want, by control-clicking on it and choosing 'Delete'.
If you have upgraded to the new MobileMe calendar, then calendars live on MobileMe and are accessed by each device, like webmail. (The condition of syncing in MobileMe preferences is irrelevant and it should be off). Calendars are listed under your MobileMe login name. (You may also have local calendars under 'On My Mac' - these will not sync to MobileMe.)
However, by default a cached copy of each MobileMe calendar is kept on the computer so that you still have the ability to view the calendar when offline (and also you don't have to wait for the whole thing to load each time, only the changes). You can delete calendars by the same method as above.

  • Error messages after new MobileMe Calendar upgrade. Solved?

Quick rundown of what I've been through and how I have solved my problem.
I have a MacBook running 10.5.6 and I also have Bento 3. Recently Bento (Filemaker) told me that I would have to complete a few steps before upgrading to the new MobileMe calendar. So I followed the steps exactly. (URL: http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7846/~/setting-up-bento-for-th e-new-mobileme-calendar)
After completing the steps. I proceeded to upgrade to the new calendar. Upgraded in less than a minute and then after opening up iCal on my mac & importing my calendars, thats when things started to go wrong. I kept getting error messages on almost every even I have ever created. I could barely even quit iCal due to all the error messages. Also, many of my events werent there after importing and the progress wheel kept spinning. Complete DISASTER! (*Luckily, I made plenty of backups before doing any of this so I was safe*) But Still I had NO iCal!
I searched and searched and could not find a complete solution. So what I did was the following and so far I believe it could be the solution to all of you guys's problems.
I followed these instructions on this website (URL: http://answers.makeitwork.com/how-to-reset-ical-on-your-mac-or-how-to-clean-up-y our-ical/) **I followed these exactly**
    They are below:
+Export any Calendars you wish to retain after you reset by clicking on the Calendar you wish to retain and go to File > Export… > Export…+
+Repeat the above process for every Calendar you wish to keep. (Make sure you remember where you saved them)+
    +Quit out of iCal+
+Go to Finder and click on your Home icon to display the Library folder.+
    +Open that folder+
+Open the Calendars folder in the subsequent window+
+Delete all the contents within that folder+
+NOTE: If you open iCal at this point, it will initially appear that you cleared everything. Within minutes, however, everything will come back.+
+Go to your Utilities folder and open the Terminal application+
+Enter the following command: rm -rf ~/Library/{Caches,Caches/Metadata,Preferences,Application\ Support}/iCal+
    +Exit out of Terminal+
    +Open iCal and…Voila! Brand new iCal!+
But that did not completely work. So before doing this again, I went to my iPhone and quit syncing calendars on my mobile me account. And chose to ERASE every calendar on my iPhone.
After doing that and repeating the process above, I opened up iCal and boom, it worked. Then after I had the calendars setup the way I wanted on my MacBook, I proceeded to go to Preferences>MobileMe>Sync> and then chose to sync
I then went to Me.com and checked to see if the calendar was operable and it was 100%. I could do everything like before. Then I went back to my iPhone and just turned Calendar syncing back on in my mobileme preferences.
This has solved all my problems 100%. Hope this helps someone. Just remember that as long as you created a backup of your Calendar you should be safe.
    -Cody-

Well... seems I didn't have any answer on this. I fiddled a bit more but I have to say that I really came to wits' end at this stage. A couple of observations though:
    * I don't really understand this notion of a keyboard issue. My keyboard and its layout work properly but I will not be able to login regardless of login through GDM, KDM or Slim. Yet it's worth noting that in the case of GDM and SLIM the X server starts; I see the graphical interface, I click, etc. but when I type the trouble starts.
    * I tried to check my xsessions-errors file. The file is really big under a frame buffer, and it wasn't clear to me, but I found strange that the log was reporting all sorts of attempts to start KDE. I don't exactly know what's going on.
If anybody has any clue, let me know... It's becoming very frustrating.
    Thanks!

  • Link to MobileMe calendar subscriptions in Pages '09

I am working on a document with the end goal of sending out a PDF with links to subscribe to shared MobileMe calendars.
I am using Pages '09, version 4.0.5 (852), Mac OS X 10.6.7, and the new CalDAV MobileMe calendar. The problem is that every time I crate a link to the shared MobileMe webcal, Pages 'auto-corrects' the URL to begin with "http://" and breaks the link.
How I am currently creating the links:
         - Select text
         - Click the Link tab in the Inspector window
         - Click the "Hyperlink" tab
         - Check the box to "Eable as a hyperlink"
         - Choose "Webpage" from the "Link To:" drop down menu
         - Copy and paste the link to the shared MobileMe calendar (webcal://www.me.com...) in the URL: field.
Pages will automatically add in "http://" to the beginning of the URL.  After this, the link takes the reader to a blank webpage rather than adding a new subscribed calendar as expected.
I have found a work around:
         - Open Finder and navigate to the desired Pages document.
         - Copy the Pages document
         - Rename the Pages document to end in ".zip" (without quotes) and choose "Use .zip" when prompted
         - Open the new ZIP file
         - Open the extracted folder (should have the same name as the ZIP file)
         - Open index.xml with TextEdit or another plain text editor
         - Use the Find and Replace feature (⌘F in TextEdit) to replace all occurrences of "http://webcal://" with "webcal://" (without quotes)
         - Save and Close index.xml
         - Go back to Finder, open the folder that was created by unzipping the the Pages document
         - Select all items in the folder (⌘A)
         - Choose File > Compress [number] Items from the menu bar
         - Rename the newly crated "Archive.zip" to "[document title].pages" (without quotes). Put the name of your document in place of [document title]
         - Open the newly created Pages document and immediately choose Share > Export... from the menu bar
Does anyone know of a more elegant way to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    NChiu

I can't help you on the not having http:// part of the equation. One simpler step for you though is after you have made all your changes, instead of selecting everything in the folder and archiving, just add the extension .pages to the folder.
I know it isn't much help, but maybe a little.

  • I am trying to sync my new MacBook Air iCal with my iMac calendar.  I can get it to sync if my iMac is set to MobileMe calendar, but I cannot get rid of iCal which keeps coming up with an error message.

I am trying to sync my new MacBook Air iCal with my iMac calendar.  It will synce with MobileMe calendar on the iMac, but I can't get rid of iCal on the iMac and this one keeps coming up with an error message.

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

  • Sync iCal - iPhone - Exchange 2007 broken after MobileMe Calendar upgrade

I need to keep contacts and calendars in sync between my work pc (XP, Outlook 2003, Exchange Server 2010), my home Mac (10.6.6) and my iPhone (3GS, iOS 4.3). Until recently, that worked fine by the following (roundabout) way: PC syncs with Plaxo online via Outlook add-in; Plaxo syncs with Mac; Mac syncs with MobileMe; MobileMe syncs with iPhone. However, the recent upgrade to new MobileMe calendar breaks this workflow, at least for calendar syncing, because Plaxo cannot synchronise with the new CalDAV cloud-hosted calendars. Can anyone suggest another way of getting this to work?
I thought MobileMe for PC might be a solution, but while it can show MobileMe calendars in Outlook, it can't synchronize them (and it seems not to work with Windows XP). A while back, I tried using Google Calendar as the focal point, but found Google Calendar Sync for Windows created a lot of duplicate items, lost items and general mess.
PS The office network doesn't run Exchange ActiveSync and does not allow a vpn connection from Mac or iPhone.

    Hi JWilson@ch,
So I thought I was the only person doing that crazy workflow to get everything synced. I do it exactly the same way.
I stupidly upgraded to the new MobileMe last year when first invited, and spent the next few days working out how to get it all back and working. I have been happily syncing everything the old way since then.
My major concern now is that I just received an email from MobileMe today saying I have to upgrade now as they have stopped syncing the old calendar! I haven't checked this yet (I will in a sec), but if I have to upgrade, that means I lose everything that has worked so well since MobileMe started.
My crappy work Blackberry is useless for mirroring my Outlook calendar, so syncing my work onto the much more user friendly iPhone had been a saviour. Now I have all of my work and personal appointments in the same place, and I never miss anything.
What to do now? Is there another way to get my PC calendar onto my iPhone, apart from the Exchange Activesync option which my office also doesn't support.
I'll hold out as long as I can...

  • ICal crashes whenever opened after upgrade to new MobileMe calendar

I upgraded to the MobileMe calendar beta, and have no problem using it on my iPhone, MacPro or the web. But iCal on my MacBook Pro now crashes every time it is opened. I can see it start up OK, then as soon as it starts showing the indeterminate spinner next to my MobileMe calendars (presumably showing it's doing a sync) it crashes. I've tried deleting all my calendar data from my Library folder but that hasn't helped.
Has anyone else seen this? Or could anyone offer any suggestion as to how I can remove the MobileMe calendars from iCal to at least get it running again? The error it crashes with (it's the same every time):

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • New Time Zone Issue with MobileMe Calendar Upgrade

I'm having strange things happen with sending/receiving "invitations" to people in other time zones.
Prior to this MobileMe calendar upgrade, sending/receiving invitations worked fine. I would schedule an event (obviously in my time zone), and if I invite a friend in a different time zone, the event would show up on her Google Calendar at the proper time. Between iCal and Google Calendar, the time zone translation was working properly. Likewise, when she scheduled an event and sent me an invitation, the event showed up in iCal at the proper time for me.
But now, after simply upgrading MobileMe calendar, events from me to her show up at the wrong time! It's as if the time zone translation is no longer occurring. Oddly, events that she sends to me still work correctly.
I have "Turn on time zone support" enabled in iCal, MobileMe calendar, and on the iPhone.
So this very nice feature that was working previously seems to have broken with the MobileMe calendar upgrade.
Has anyone else seen this, or (hopefully) solved it?
    Thanks!
    Jim

  • All entries duplicated after update to new MobileMe Calendar

Since updating to the new MobileMe Calendar, all entries in my local calendars (those that appear on both my desktop and my laptop) have every entry duplicated. Each entry that was there before the upgrade is still there and it is overlaid by an identical entry at the exact same times and with the exact same text. The calendar that appears in MobileMe does not have these duplicates. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have a solution to remove all the duplicates?

    John,
I think I'm in over my head.  Yesterday I was prompted to download and install the newest software for my iPhone 4.  During the course of the install, I was asked if I wanted to use iCloud as my backup destination, and I answered "yes".  Later I was also asked if I wanted to set up a MobileMe account, to facilitate being able to use "Find My Phone".  I answered "yes" to that also. (I'm so easy!)
I finished the install and then last night I plugged my phone into the computer to sync and charge, as I always do.  It was this morning that I noticed that all the entried in my Calendar (on the phone) were duplicated.  I didn't have time to deal with it right away, and while I was at work, I entered a few appointments into my phone.  After work, I noticed that not only were the entries on my phone duplicated, but the appointments entered on to my phone this morning, weren't appearing on iCal (on my computer).
My Calendar appointments are crucial to my business, and I need to be able to trust that what I enter on my phone will also show up on my computer, and vice versa.  That's where I'm trying to go, and frankly, I don't really understand iCloud or MobileMe, and probably shouldn't have tried to upgrade without more knowledge.
I certainly appreciate the time and patience you've offered me, but I don't want to use your whole day.  Worse comes to worst, I can always make an appointment at my local Apple Store. You've been very generous, and I appreciate it.
    Thanks again,
    Nela

  • How to merge multiple MobileMe calendars?

    (1) I have several calendars on MobileMe that I want to consolidate into one calendar.  How do I do that?
    (2) Everytime I delete the local "calendar" it reappears when I sync my iPhone with iTunes.  This presents a problem when I create a new event because that event defaults to the local calendar instead of my first MobileMe calendar.  Then this new event lives on my iMac but never sync's to MobileMe.
    (3) I don't want to lose any of the events I have in my different calendars during this process.
To summarize: I want to get rid of the local calendars, consolidate the MobileMe calendars into one & not lose my events.  I want to end up with one MobileMe calendar for all my events (which will evenually roll over to the iCloud service).  Thanks for any suggestions & help.

    kporterjr,
    (1) I have several calendars on MobileMe that I want to consolidate into one calendar.  How do I do that?
Use MobileMe: How to back up calendar data using MobileMe Calendar for help in backing up and restoring MobileMe calendar data.
After the data is backed up, you can then restore each calendar into one new consolidated calendar.
You appear to be using iTunes for syncing. Make sure that your iPhone is set up to use MobileMe sync: Apple - MobileMe - Set Up MobileMe.
I want to get rid of the local calendars, consolidate the MobileMe calendars into one & not lose my events.  I want to end up with one MobileMe calendar for all my events (which will evenually roll over to the iCloud service).
Be sure to use iCal>File>Export...>Export for each one of your "On My Mac" calendars. The exported copies will allow you to preserve your data and import that data into a new calendar. After successful import into a new calendar you can delete the "On My Mac" calendars.

  • MobileMe Calendar won't load on OS X 10.7.2

I try to add MobileMe calendar to iCal on OSX 10.7.2 and I get the message "iCal couldn't log in to the CalDAV server “me.com”.  Standard apply reply in support is to upgrade to 10.7.2, but I'm already there.

I got the problem resolved through Online Chat.  It involved going back through system preferences, but I can't remember the exact steps.  If you contact Apple Support, my case number was Case ID: 272501455.  Maybe they can pull up the transcript.  The key is to get the MobileMe online chat.  The regular phone support apparently doesn't handle MobileMe type problems.  Good luck.

  • Share a group of calendars?

I've been working with iCal to create several groups with many different calendars within each group. Think three groups, each with about fifteen calendars. When i try to share a group of calendars with someone, iCal consolidates my many calendars into one. I have so many calendars that it becomes hard to understand when it's formatted this way. Is there an easy way to share groups of calendars without publishing each calendar individually?
I need to share these calendar groups with many people, and sending out 45 emails to 20 different people telling them to subscribe to each individual calendar doesn't make sense.
If iCal can't do this, does anyone know of a program or service that can? Google Calendar doesn't have groups of calendars like iCal does.

Dan, when you say "click on .Mac", where should one do that?
My iSync icon on the menu bar does not have that option. My .Mac preferences has four "pages" or "tabs" - Account, Sync, iDisk, and Advanced. I can not find any place to specify individual calendars.
Under Sync, I can only choose to sync all calendar data or none at all. Under Advanced, I can select my computer, click "Reset Sync Data", then I can select to replace all data or just Calendar data from the computer to the .Mac or vice versa.
Is there another place to make this selection?
