Grouping objects in Pages 5.1

I apologize is there is another thread for this question but I searched as best I could and couldn't find one.
I have recently upgraded to Pages 5.1 (not because I had any desire to, but simply to stop the annoying pop-ups telling me to update it). I was reasonably happy with the older version, which handled most of my document needs.
The 5.1 version has many changes that I find annoying (such as the evident inability to convert text into tables and vice versa), but I thiink I have found work-arounds for all the problems except one. (My prreferred solution would be to go back to the old program but that seems not possible.)
I cannot get simple objects to "group." I only use "shapes" provided from insert and text boxes. I do not need to know how to group graphics created outside of pages (although it would be nice). But two simple "shapes" that Pages itself provides, when I click on them both and go to the "Arrange" pull down, the "group" function is not on (as it would have been in the old program) and I can't group the objects.
I realize this may not be the most pressing issue with this new program, but it is cusing me a great deal more work. I used the feature to create fractions in algebraic equations and I could copy and paste a grouped fraction and change the variables, exponents, numbers, etc., quite easily. Now I have to create each fraction from scratch, because the parts don't easily stick together when I copy and try to move one.

I had some trepidation bothering you all with my trivial question, but I end up having more information that I ever expected. I really thought I would either be plagued by a dysfunctional WP or suffer endless harassment about updates. Ironically, when I went back to retreive the old Pages at Viking's suggestion, the first thing it asked me is if I wanted an update.

I use Photoshop, Premiere, after effects, and many other adobe produts...
All of them have something in common, you can group or nest objects, vector based or pixel based media does not matter.
In Premiere, yoy can group a film a title and some effects into a cilp, and then use that clip as a object.
In Photoshop you can create folders under layers and use those to manage several objects at once.
But what about captivate? Even the "not to be mensioned here PowerPoint" can group objects.
Why is it so that within a company one does not reuse smart ideas and maby code?
Do not get me wrong, I love all the posibilities with captivate, but explode sometimes on the small unessesary to forget to develop things.
And to you who want to tell me about SHIFT, that is not what I am talking about

Hi All,
I am working on a product catalog in InDesign 6 and need some help flowing grouped objects (2 images and 1 text frame) through a 3 column 2 row layout. How do I set it up so when I add more products/grouped objects the current products flow to the next cell or even next page? I'm stuck! Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Animating grouped objects for ipad presentation

I am working on a 134-slide timeline presentation in keynote that I'm designing on my Mac and then transerferring to an iPad. I have read that to avoid problems translating the presentation from a Mac to an iPad to avoid grouping objects that an effect will be applied to. I'm taking that to mean that includes animation? I have several slides where three different blocks of text need to dissolve into the frame at the same time. It makes sense to me to group these instead of applying a separate build to each text block but since reading that advice (found here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4114), I am concerned about what I should do.
Does anyone have any answers that would either verify this advice or refute it?

Transform group objects

Hello Illustrators.
I've came across a thought, how to transform a grouped object. like in Photoshop when we use the distort transformation, we can manipulate the corner points
for a particular occasion. Here in the example I have 3 rectangles one smaller than another, and I I have grouped them. Now I'm trying to figure out a way how to adjust
the shape into the grey one. I have used the free distort tool, but does no justice. because there is no preview so I cannot see how it adjusts. I'm only after the equivalent of the distorition
like in Photoshop.

The root problem--as I've been pointing out here ever since Illustrator acquired envelopes--is that Illustrator envelopes insist on being created with their curve handles auto-extended. FreeHand, by comparison, provides you a choice of whether a rectangular envelope has its handles initially extended or retracted. So such a thing in FreeHand is as no-brainer simple as applying a rectangular envelope and then dragging its four corners to where you want them (just as in Photoshop).
To do that in Illustrator, you have to tediously set up guides so as to try to replicate the proportional positions of the envelope's extended handles on each side, after moving the corner points.
Using Envelope>Make With Top Object only works sometimes, because that feature does not provide any means by which to instruct the program which corner of the artwork is supposed to map to which corner of the already-drawn envelope shape. Instead, it just makes its own "guess" according to the ever-tyrannical horizontal/vertical axes of the page.

Placing a Grouped Object in Library

Is there a way to place a grouped object in the Library? For example, I have a smart object (0% opacity with 0 border) placed over a custom button grouped together. This grouped item will not always be placed in the same location, so it's not like I can just place them on a template slide. I realize I could just copy and paste from another page, but for a cleaner solution, I would like to just be able to pull it right from the asset library. Is this possible? I am using Cp7.

No Kevin, that is not possible. But why do you use a smart shape over a button? You can use a shape as a button? But of course, too bad that a shape will never be in the library (as is the case for buttons). You can copy/paste within the same project, or create a template to have them available for future projects.

Feature restore request. (allow locked and grouped objects to be able to tagged.

In CS2, using the direct selection tool, I'm able to select and tag the image even if it's grouped and locked, no script needed at all, no sweat and fast!
Furthermore this XML element can also be moved freely in the structure hierarchy after tagged and remains grouped and locked.
In CS3 and CS4,
I can't do that.
It will give a warning message "Cannot modify elements that contain locked content, or are contained by locked content. Please unlock or check out the content and try again."
So need to write script to unlock the image's parent first, and then tag and locked the object back automatically.
(This script is essential so as to prevent any unintentional and accidental change on the page layout if it's done manually)
But to make matter worse, grouped objects will need to also find out all these ancestors and have them unlocked first!
It creates alot of hassle! Really being user-unfriendly in CS3/CS4 when doing such a simple xml tagging task.
PLEASE please restore the wonderful CS2 feature back in the next version of Indesign.

I'd suggest you submit your suggestion through the iTunes application feedback page. It's more likely to be seen by the iTunes development group that way.

Unable to group objects - it's greyed out all the time

Hello,
I am using Page's 09 (version 4.0.3 build 766). I have a document with many self made graphics using text boxes, shapes and connection lines. No matter what, I can not select group objects. If I select two, three, four, or more it is always greyed out.
Is this a nasty issue with Pages? Anyone else experiencing this?

Sorry, Aaron, I must have been seeing fruhulda's equipment profile and thinking it was yours.
Well, there have been an incredible number of manifestations of problems with iWork and the 10.6.2 incremental update. I wonder if there are any other issues that you may not have mentioned because they don't seem related to this one.
As Yvan says, what you want to do is something that works well on a properly functioning system. All manner of things have gone wrong for those who have installed 10.6.2.
I haven't installed 10.6.2, so I don't have first hand experience with this, but posts indicate that you must have a properly updated iWork first, and then do the Combo Update. After that you hold crossed fingers behind your back, or something like that.

I think I know what may have happened.
As I can see you are trying to create support for an updateable materialized view.
You have to make sure the name of the schema that owns the materialized view is the same as the schema owner of the master table (at master site).
From the code you have shown, I bet the owner of table EMP is SCOTT.
From the other hand, you want to create materialized view EMP_MV under schema KARTHIK that refers to table SCOTT.EMP at master site.
According to the documentation, the schema name used in DBMS_REPCAT.CREATE_MVIEW_REPOBJECT must be same as the schema that owns the master table.

I tried to reproduce your example in my environment, and I got exactly the same error which actually confirms my assumption that the reason for the error is the fact that you tried to create the materialized view in a schema with different name than the one where master table exists.
I'll skip some of the steps that I used to create the replication environment.

How to copy objects from Pages (5.5.1) and paste it into Photoshop as a vector smart object with high resolution?

I recently have bought a new Macbook Pro (Version 10.10.1) with the OS X Yosemite. The computer comes with the new Pages (version 5.5.1).
Here is the problem: I like to create artwork using the shapes on Pages. Previously, on my old mac, I used Pages 4.3 to create objects, which I would copy then paste to Photoshop and it would become a vector smart object. However, in the new Pages (version 5.5.1), when I copy objects, they would appear on Photoshop as instead, a layer and it would not be in full resolution.
Also, I know there is nothing wrong with the Pages file itself because I have converted the document to PDF form and it is high resolution when inserted into Photoshop that way.
Does anyone know how I can copy individual objects from Pages (5.5.1) and paste it into Photoshop as a vector smart object with high resolution as I have done before?

Oh, well if you don't actually need vector objects then it looks like this is possible. As I said earlier, Pages is putting a PNG on the clipboard. I tested it and it does paste into Photoshop as a transparent layer, because I can see the transparent background of the pasted PNG graphic if I either turn off all layers behind it in Photoshop, or if I start a new Photoshop document to paste into but make sure I choose Transparent for the Background Contents in the New Document dialog.

Grouped objects not saved correctly

I group objects (graphics and text), save the file, but when I open it again, grouped objects are moved, sometimes outside the slide. This seems to affect graphics dropped onto keynote, and only of they are grouped. Graphics & text produced inside keynote, using its graphing tools are displayed correctly.
Anyone sees the same behavior? More importantly, anyone has a fix?

I noticed that I can not change the precision on a column in one of my tablesProbably that's a FK column.
For the other problem - probably it's caused by merge conflict and you have in the file symbols <<<<<< >>>>>> and non valid XML elements. You can try to replace the content of the file manually using version from repository. There will be better processing of suche cases in next release.

Can't group objects in Captivate?

Why no option to "group" objects in Captivate? -- not only is this standard in vector graphics programs (Freehand, Illustrator, Flash, even in Word), it's necessary for efficient editing.

You may group, but the grouping is temporary.
Note that Captivate is not a vector application. Instead it is a raster based applicaton. Perhaps that explains it?

Any related object on the detail page should have an "Add" or "New" or both buttons by default - This is vanilla functionality and will do the required action.
If you want to modify this behaviour and do something tricky you will potentially have to go for javascript. You should add the javascript on a custom web tab on that Object.
Admin --> Application Customization --> Contact -->Contact Web Applet
Now, add your javascript in the code area, after you select the type = HTML for this web applet, expose this web applet on the Contact detail layout and your javascript will be invoked whenever this page is loaded.

You can't expect Mail to support all the objects of Pages which can include anything up to charts generated from spreadsheet tables.
Even if Mail was a superset of Pages, what would the recipients who don't have either Mail or Pages, make of it?
