Grouping of videos by artist

Some of my videos are grouped on the iPod Touch by artist, others are not. For example, Sheryl Crow shows up on the list with a heading that states "(7 Videos)", while The Cranberries' videos are listed individually. All were purchased from iTunes. And in the iTunes listing on my Mac, I cannot see anything that would group them, in fact, Sheryl Crow's videos are listed individually when using Album view. They are not marked as part of a compilation either.

How many Cranberries videos do you have? Less than three? TV shows/videos won't be grouped under a header/artist unless you have three or more by that artist/TV show. Took me a long time to figure that one out.
Also, make sure that the information under Info (Get Info/Info when you right-click (ctrl-click) on a video in iTunes) for things like Artist is the same across all of the videos.

  • Songs not being grouped into one album/artist!!!

Ok, so just as an example... I have this one CD - American Idol 2 All-Time Classic American Love Songs ... my problem is that it seperates them all into individual artists and won't group them together - which isn't too big of a problem, because I can just rename everything and make them group. The problem is, 2 of them do group! Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard's tracks are recognized as part of one album and are automatically grouped into a Various Artists category! eek! It's the only time it's happened - It doesn't do that for any other American/Canadian Idol album I have! and I just can't figure it out. I tried renaming those tracks and stuff, but it just wouldn't work, it still only grouped those two seperately!

Ok and it also happens with a couple Westlife songs - I have a Misc category because they're from a couple different singles albums and I didn't want like, one song per folder! So I just grouped them all, but again, iTunes won't make ONE Misc Category, it bloody makes two!

  • ITunes refuses to group one video with others with the same album and artist

This is absolutely ridiculous. They have the exact same album and artist name, yet my latest addition refuses to group with the others. I've tried so many things, yet it still won't group. Tried adding some random text to both the album and artist. Then tried removing the random text. Also tried completely removing all the text and manually typing them again. Still does the exact same thing. And believe me, there are no spaces or weird characters that differentiate them. They are exactly the same. The weird thing is, if I add the word "Nuke" before "Jizztage" in the title, it will then group. What the ****? I don't want the title of the video to be "Nuke Jizztage Volume 1." Just so frustrating for an app that has been around for donkey's years. And no, it's not a big deal. Just annoys me that I have to spend hours trying to figure out why this stupid piece of software won't do the simplest of things!

Thank you! That's been driving me crazy. I have one artist with only 2 videos. I've tried re-valuing the artist name, removing from the iPhone, putting them back... Now I just need to find another video.

  • Sorting music videos by Artist?

My music videos are coming through on the iPod Classic 160GB in order of the title of the track - surely there should be an option to view them in order of artists so I can play multiple videos by the same artist in a row?
    Am I missing something?

I am not sure if this will help or not, but I move any and all videos from the Movie folder by doing this:
right click the video file and select Get Info.
    Click the VIDEO tab
Make sure the Video Kind is Music Video.
It now appears in the Video Music folder where you can enter the artists name in the Artist column. When you sync your ipod, your videos are arranged by artist.
One more tidbit: If you want to play your videos continuously on your IPOD (not have them stop when finished for you to manually select the next one), do this:
    right click the video file
    select Get Info
    go to the Options tab
    UNCHECK Skip when shuffling.

  • Not able to find Group/singer in the "artist" list but only by album

After importing a cd, the artist name appears in my library, but then on my ipod I can only locate some groups/singer/artist by looking for the album.
Why aren't all of the artists appearing in my "artist" list on my ipod? THANKS MUCH!!

It could be that you have inadvertently imported these CDs into iTunes as part of a compilation. If so, the artists won't show in the artists menu on the iPod.
To check, highlight the tracks on one of the offending artists CDs in iTunes, right click and select "get info". This brings up a multiple song info window, and from there you can check if you have 'yes' in the box marked "part of a compilation".
If you have, select 'no' instead and click 'ok'. Do this with any CD that has this issue. This will alter the info in iTunes, and you should then connect your iPod and synchronize the changes.
The problem arises because the information contained on the Gracenote CD Data Base (where iTunes gets all it's album/artist/track info from), is sometimes incorrect. It can show CDs as compilations when in fact they are not.
You should also check that the songs have album name info in their ID tags.
See: Some songs don't don't show under artist on my iPod.

  • Arranging videos by artist with iTunes 7

Can anyone figure out how to arrange your movies/TV shows by artist in the new iTunes? With the last version I had all of my videos arranged by the "artist" as there were several episodes of the same programme. Now everything is simply arranged alphabetically and by episode numbers, so everything is scattered all over the place.
I don't care that the TV shows are not where they should be (under TV shows) or that I can't move them. It just seems stupid that I can't tell the programme which way I would like to order my stuff rather than it's way. This new version seems a little inflexible compared with the last, and I think I would have preferred keeping the older one.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, that would be cool. Thanks.

  • How to group my videos by year/hard disk

The new iMovie with the Mavericks seems to sort all the movies based on date when they were imported rather than the date videos were created.
iMovies 11 nicely grouped them by year and hard disk if i wanted but dont see any option on the imovies that came with mavericks
Is there a way to change the view as it was in imovies 11?

I need this back too.  In the previous version of iMovie, I really liked being able to see all of my raw video that I have imported over the years grouped by year on the left side of the screen.  Makes it so much easier when it's time to make a video montage or other video containing clips from multiple years.  If someone knows how to re-enable this in the new version of iMovie, please let me know.  If it's been removed, I need to know that as well as that is a deal-breaker for me, and I will just stick with the current version.
    Thanks.

  • How can I group collaborations under one artist?

Hi, this is hard to explain but I'm trying to group various collaborations under one artist so that it looks neater on my iTunes/iPod. I haven't managed to get it working right yet. I'll give an example:
I have various albums involving Elvis Costello. They include solo albums, but also albums credited to "Elvis Costello and the Attractions", "...and the Imposters", "...with Burt Bacharach" and so on. I don't want to drop these titles, but I would like them all to be sorted on my ipod in a folder named "Elvis Costello". I've tried fiddling about with the Artist, Album Artist, Sort Album, Sort Album Artist fields etc but i haven't had any luck.
I'm using iTunes 11.1.5.5, and an iPod Classic 2.0.4.
Does anyone know how I can do this? Thanks.

I have exactly this situation, with the following solution:
In all cases where I have one Artist per album (most of EC's albums), set the Sort Artist to "Costello, Elvis", leave the Album Artist and Sort Album Artist fields blank
For compilations like "Out of Our Idiot", where the Artist field varies across tracks, set Album Artist to "Elvis Costello" and Sort Album Artist to "Costello, Elvis", leave the Sort Album field blank
For all albums set the Sort Album to "Costello, Elvis yyyymmdd" where yyyymmdd is the release date - this is a standard scheme that I use to ensure than when sorted by Artist & Title albums appear in correct release order (sorting by Album and Year doesn't always work when an artist has more than one release per year - I categorize live albums by recording date, so this works particularly well for artists with multiple live releases from the same year, e.g. I have 33 Grateful Dead albums* where the Year field is 1972, including the recording/release date field in the Sort Album ensures that these are listed in correct sequential order).
With this approach the Albums listing on my iPod Nano 7th gen is (to me) correct, being ordered by artist and then by release date.
    * I have each of the 22 shows from the "Europe '72" box set in iTunes as separate albums.

  • Itunes not grouping the same album artist together

I have had a quick search but not found anyone talking about this issue, apologies if it has been mentioned before.
I have a number of albums that are mixed by DJs. I have set it up so the artists in each album reflect each individual song and the "album artist" is the name of the DJ. I have selected compliation and assigned an album cover. This works fine and each album is grouped together as one album as it should be. The problem is that iTunes doesn't seem to want to arrange these albums in the order of the album artist (ie. the DJ who mixed it).
If I order by "Album by artist" all these albums are placed at the end of the list and ordered by album name and not album artist. If I add the "album artist" category to the display and arrange by this, the albums get split up into individual songs - which is even worse!
Is there a way to get iTunes to sort these albums so they remain together as each album and are also arranged in order of the "album artist" so that eg. All albums mixed by DJ X appear first, followed by those mixed by DJ Y and finally those mixed by DJ Z?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Grouping podcasts
A podcast series will split up in this way when its feed is moved to a new URL. Merging the series requires editing all the older episodes so that they appear to have come from the current feed. Download and install Mp3Tag (not sure of a Mac equivalent offhand). Use it to explore the Extended tags of podcasts from the same series. PODCASTURL (formerly ITUNESPODCASTURL) is used to link different podcasts from the same subscription (as opposed to fields like Album & Album Artist etc.) and PODCASTID (formerly ITUNESPODCASTID) determines the order. Everything else seems to be optional. Backup your files, tweak a few a tags then play each track briefly in turn. If iTunes still fails to notice the updated tags try my script UpdateTagInfo (Win).
As far as I'm aware the order is determined by the PODCASTID, but if you need/want to modify the Release Date then in MP3Tag/Extended Tags it corresponds to RELEASETIME in the format yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ssZ, e.g. 2008-02-20T09:10:52Z

  • Polycom Group Series video resolutions in Lync conference

I've noticed that two Polycom Group series devices that have the Lync Interop licence installed provide good quality (1080p) video calls when making a point to point lync call but if the same two devices connect by joining a Lync conference, by
joining via a calendar appointment for example, the resolution drops to 640x368
I documented my findings in a quick blog
    http://1plex.co.uk/polycom-group-series-testing-lync-2013/
anyone been successful getting the devices to connect at a better resolution?

Thanks Thamara, thats a great shout, I did look at this but didn't think it was relevant as I found this definition of the parameter below - maybe the issue is that the Group Series don't get classified as 'Lync Server 2013 clients' and it treats them
as legacy clients. I'll look into it a bit further - thanks again
MaxVideoConferencingResolution   This parameter is no longer used for Lync Server 2013 clients in Lync Server 2013 conferences. Lync Server 2013 conferences use the bit rate controls described earlier in this section. This
setting is still used for legacy clients joining a Lync Server 2013 conference. This parameter determines the maximum resolution allowed for legacy clients in conferences organized by users who are homed on Lync Server 2013. That is, legacy clients are treated
the same as they were in previous versions of Lync Server or Office Communications Server

an then when i sync with my ipod, all the films in my ipod don't appear with any name...is just a list with no names at all....but all the videos are there....I have already tried all the tricks that I have remember of...So please, can you give me some hope??
    sincerely yours,

  • Itunes 12.0.1.26 Display and group Home Videos in Genres

Hi, Since the most recent version of iTunes has been installed on my mac, my home videos of which I have hundreds, are no longer displayed by genre. I used to have a list of genres down the left side of the screen. you could then click a genre to display the home videos within it.
Is it still possible to display that view or similar? All I can seem to do is display all the home videos on one big screen. granted they are listed in genre order but its still a bit of a chew on to scroll right down to the genre i want.
    Hope someone can help me!
    Many Thanks!
