Grouping pdf files on ipad

I get my daily newspaper on my ipad, but I have to be connected to the net in order to browse the pages. I can add any single page to Books as a pdf file and have it available when I am offline, but having to do this task everyday to 60+ pages is alot of work.
I have two questions:
1) How can I select more than 1 pdf page to open them in Books?
2) How can I group those pages to create one eBook with my newspaper?

While my iPad hasn't arrived yet,Goodreader plus Dropbox works a treat on my iPhone, so I can heartily recommend trying it. Goodreader will cost you a buck and a 2GB Dropbox account is free, so there is no reason not to start with this approach.
Yes, you can do the iTunes sync thing if you want, but Dropbox means that you can add PDFs via ANY Of your machines and then - almost immediately - have them available on your iPad.
One thing to note: you can download PDFs off of the web via GoodReader and then stash them into your Dropbox using Goodreader so that they are accessible on your other machines if you want to.

  • Looking for help for sharing pdf files with ipad from mac.  Pages only recognizes text.  What app should I use for file sharing pdf documents?

Looking for advice on how to share pdf files with iPad from Mac.   Pages seems to only recognize text.   What app is recommended for pdf documents?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
If I understand your question, you want to read pdfs on your iPad, not create or edit.
Drag pdf files to the iPad icon in Finder while connected to your computer via the USB cable.
They will show up in the iBooks application
(If you don't already have iBooks, it's a free download from the App Store.)
Once installed, there are two buttons at the top left of the Bookshelf.
One is Books, the other is Collections.
Tap Collections, and you'll see Books and PDFs.
    Tap PDFs and you're there.

  • Using pages how to insert pdf files on ipad?

using pages how to insert pdf files on ipad?
Anybody have any idea, have pdf files in ibook do not see where to insert pdf's.
Also trying to get word files onto ipad using drop box, do these word files need to be saved in another format?
    Also for pages.
    thnx

No - the Word files do not need to be saved in any other format if you have Pages on your iPad. There are other apps that provide better compatibility than Pages but it will work for you. You have to have DropBox on your PC and the free DropBox app on the iPad to use DropBox to transfer files.
To send the file using DropBox -  make sure DropBox is running on your computer. Then place the file in one of the folders that you have set in your DropBox folder on your PC. Launch DropBox on your iPad and find the folder that you placed the file into and tap on that folder. Find the document and tap on it. It will open in the window on the right. Tap the arrow icon in the upper right corner and select Open in Pages.
If you have pdf files in iBooks that you want to put into Pages you have to email them to yourself and use the Open In feature when you open the email. You cannot send a file from iBooks other than to email it - at least I am not aware of any other way.

Have you got iBooks app ?
This is what I use to open and read PDF files using my iPad3.
My source of PDF files are emails.
I tap on them and keep my fingers pressed.
A pop up appears, and I select iBooks to start reading the PDF file.

i copy a pdf file to ipad by itune, but where can i open it on  iPad?

How did you get the PDF into iTunes, drag to the books library? What PDF apps do you have on the iPad? If you dragged into the books library - and you have iBooks, look in there.
You can email the PDF to yourself and it will open a as mail attachment. You need a compatible app in order to save it, but you can open it from the mail app.

  • Pdf files on iPad

    Hi all,
I wonder if there's a way to import pdf files into an iPad and then opened it. The reason I am asking this is that I have thousands of pdf files (books, articles, etc.) which I would like to read on a portable device like the iPad. But as I browsed through the iPad specifics I did not find any mention of the "Preview" application or some type of pdf reader. Any thoughts on that would be most appreciated.
    Regards.

I was under the impression you could import them into pages but what you actually do is export PDFs using http://www.epub2go.com/Web/default.aspx and turn them into EPUB which would then be dragged into the books section and you could see them in iBooks.
Great news. I have been using Pages for base editing and then using a secondary application turn the content into Styled HTML/XML files for conversion to chapter/metadata annotated EPUB files. Will have to test this work flow out as soon as I can find the time. Was disappointed with Calibre PDF conversions and "layout" EPUB authoring applications.
Several developers are working on creating apps that would do the PDF to EPUB automatically.
Like many, I am hoping that Apple will eventually add an option to Pages that could target the word processor layer for direct export as EPUB with properly functioning annotations.
You'd get the full functionality of any other book in iBooks with your PDF. It's a little time consuming but it's a workaround.
Not as time consuming as my current work flows. My problem is that Pages is a very easy to use app for the creation and design of non-professional but still nice looking electronic media. Unfortunately, its PDF export doesn't annotate files properly (i.e., even well enough to match Preview's, Adobe's, Sony's, or various other software/firmware reader capabilities) requiring the use of other applications and work flows to make up for these deficiencies. Same is true for my EPUB but requiring a third application in the work flow.
Let me know if you want any more information on it.
I, for one, would be interested to know if the site you referenced processes images or is text only? Are there any know issues with any of Pages "special" features such as shadows, frames, borders, "group" content, justifications, etc? How about PDF annotations? If pre-entered in the PDF file before conversion, will they carry over to the EPUB file? While I will really want to check most of these things out for myself, any "heads-up" information would be greatly appreciated at this time. I really like the way the iBooks reader works. Things like the display of pages remaining in the current chapter just don't seem to be found in many other such reader apps and in one night I've come to depend on them when making a decisions as to how much more to read before closing the book, turning of the lights and going to sleep.
Thanks agin for the info already provided...
    PS,
Since this is getting a bit off the OP topic, you can post me directly via my Public Profile info.

  • How to display Pdf file in iPad site

    Hi
How to display Pdf file in web page which can able to view in iPad safari?
    Thanks,
    Arun

    You can't really.
You need to use DHTML in the swf-wrapper HTML file, usually a
division wrapped iFrame, and load the PDF into the iFrame as an
    overlay to the Flash.

You can use the desktop version of iTunes app to transfer PDF files between your iPad and MacBook Pro.
Please take a look at the following FAQ document.

  • Iframe is not working for pdf files in iPad safari

    Hi,
Pdf file is not displaying properly in iPad safari. I have faced below issue while using iframe
Not displaying in full width and height
Not able scroll other pages in pdf
    Thanks,
    Arun

    Hi Viraj,
You need to upload an image "pdf.gif" in \etc\public\mimes\images folder.
Also, you need to define the MIME Type for PDF documents in portal.
Navigate to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Utilities -> MIME Types.
Check whether you already have a MIME Type for PDF or not. Else you can create a new Type "pdf" with MIME Type "application/pdf".
    Regards,

  • I cann't find the"define" option in adobe reader when I read a PDF file in iPad 3.

I cann't find the "define" option in adobe reader when I read a PDF file in my iPad 3. I have already latest reader version and iOS 5.1.1 installed.

I believe that I figured it out.
holding finger over a word, will bring the copy/define menu
holding finger where there is NO text, empty space or image, will bring up the annotation menu.
but note that if you have a scanned document, where the words are actually an image, you will get the annotation menu, since there really is no text, just a bunch of pixels that look like text...
you can turn scanned text into "real" text by using OCR functionality of the desktop version of Acrobat Pro (not Reader), it would then create a layer of invisible text under the image of the text.

  • Thumbnail view of local network .pdf files on iPad?

Problem: I have about 250+ Lego Building Instructions saved on my MacPro.  My kids like to rebuild the sets and I'm looking for a way to view these form our iPads WITHOUT me having to sync them.
Is there any app that offers a visual/thumbnail view of local network pdf files?
I'm aware that I could upload them all to Dropbox, but even then I was not able to find a visual view in the Dropbox app.  And, since there is no need to go up to a cloud I'd like to avoid that step.
I would rather not have them even kept on the iPads but rather just have the iPads view the copy from my hard drive and then trash it on close off said magical app.
    Any suggestions?

    no one?  nothing?  anyone?  anything?
