Grouping process Chains

Hi all,
im working in a Dev system and currently the process chains are a bit of a mess. they all work fine but they are not grouped logically.
I have seen in a previous system that its possible to group chains together but I cannot find any option for this.
I cant even seem to find out how to change the display name on a process change group from un-assigned.
How do i do this, and how do I move process chains into groups? or create a group?

Hi.......
Go to RSPC >> open a Process chain >> Process Chain tab in the Top >> Attributes >> Display Components >> click there (F4) >> Then click on the Create icon (F5) >> there u can create ur own Application component..........and save the desired chains there........
U can also go to Display Component directly by pressing Ctrl + F11.....
To get it reflect in the list...........first u hav to come out.........then again open RSPC......

Cheta,
You can create the IPG with the selction of all infopackages in RSA1-Modelling Area to automate those loads automatically. That means it will trigger only those IP's which have been pooled up in that IGP...
Where as Process chain is also a automated process where you can have different process types which can be used during the load and after the load has been done.. For example in ODS once after the data has been loaded if you want to activate the data then in PC youo can insert the process type for that, but in case of IGP it will only execute your IP.

Running time for group process chain

Hello Gurus,
in our system, a group process chain includes a lot of process chains, after the whole group process chain runs through , how can I check how long it takes for the whole group process run?

Hi,
right click on start process of your meta chain..
there you can find the start time of your meta chain.take that as A.
go to last process of the chain and right click and take that time as B.
The difference between the two times is your total meta chain runtime.

4.performance wise which is best multiprovider or cube.
5.why cube is best (performance wise) for cube over ods.
6.What is max no of chars & keyfigures can insert in ods.
7.Is sid concept exists for ods.if yes when they generate.

1.From functional specification requirements,find out the datasources by using business content check(offline) or using Metadata repository(online), u need to have TREX installed in ur system.Do the GAP Analysis and note down the objects which are not in business content and create Z objects(Datasources,ODS or Infobjects,Cubes). Draw the bubble diagram and derrive ER diagram from it and finally do logical information model(cube model) and decide what u need in data flow.
2.You have a quick sizer in market place which can help you to decide the sizing of BI project.Take care of trade-off's between line item dimensions and normal dimension which have large impact on ur sizing.
3.There is no such default sizing,depends on ur reporting requirements whether u need detailed reporting or snap shot reporting.
4.There is no trade-off's between multiprovider and Cube regarding performance.From performance point of view we have to consider other factors such as aggregates,Indexing,Partitioning etc..
6.The Max number of Keyfields are 16 and data fields are 749.
7.Yes SID's are created for ODS when you check the flag for BEX Reporting.

Infopackage Group & Process chain

Hi All,
I read in documentation for Upgrade to BI 7.0, that infopackage groups needs to be migrated to Process chains, during upgrade.
But I do find infopackage groups existing in RSA1OLD( after upgrade) and they can be scheduled and seems to function properly.
1) So why is it necessary to convert infopackage groups to Process chain ?
2) If I don't migrate to Process Chain, what problems could occur ( as client is more keen on keeping infopackage groups and not disturb the setup.)

Folders for Process chains

Hi,
I need to group process chains in a folder. I want to know, how to create this folder so that i can put newly created Process chain in the new folder.

go to design modeof your process chain.
On teh menu icons, choose the one " Display Components". Its 2nd from "Execute & Schedule" icon. Icon looks like an hiearchy on a triangle. Blue in color.
It will open the "component" dialog.
Use the drop down menu to choose from existing ones or create a new one.
Folders in Process Chauins are actually named as Components.
After creating and selectying the component, save & activate your PC.
Also you need to refresh your PC window to view the component/folder & teh PCs in it.
Saved ones will show as greyed, Active ones as proper.

Can one suggest me, how to send a failure/success mail to a Group mial id when a process chain fails.
I am awere about sending mails to individual mail id's when a any process fails or succed. I want to know the group ID creation part & how to tag the same SOCT.

Additional process chain groups to be displayed in DM

Hi. Just wondering if it was possible to display additional process chain groups in DM. The way I see it only "Business Planning & Consolidation: Examples" and "Business Planning & Consolidation: System" can be displayed and therefore used. I would like to organise my chains in a better structure if possible.
Am I missing something perhaps?

It worked for me in the past and I can see that additional folder in Data Manager, but when I tried creating another one now I can't see in DM. So, either something had changed or I forgot some step.
I'll keep looking, but it's definitely doable.

How to setup "Server Groups" in RSPC (process chains)?

I'm a BASIS person working with our BI group on setting up their loads to only run on the application servers. If you don't define a host in RSPC, it will always run on the database server. We don't want to specific one host in case that server has issues. How can we setup the "server group" so we can use all our application servers for these process chains. It doesn't seem to use the SMLG logon groups we defined already.

I have setup the load balancing in the RFC, but for these jobs that are submitted via RSPC, they don't look at the SMLG parameters, they just always pick the database server. We can specify one host (other than the database server) in RSPC similar to SM36, but we were trying not to do that so in case that server is down, these jobs wouldn't fail.
I thought we could setup a "server group" and assign our 3 application server to them that way they would never fail if one is unavailable and it would keep them off the database server.

Dear Gurus,
We are going to do BI upgradation,prrequisite for that we have to convert all Infopackage groups in to Process Chain.In our system totally we 600 Infopackage groups.Let me know the optimized and oraganized way to make a process chain conversion.Before the conversion process, what are the basic measurement (Like sequence,Grouping under process chain,Scheduling .Etc...) I have to do.Anticipate your respone eagerly.

Hello Sivakumar,
Try this Function Module RSPC_MIGRATE_INFOPACKAGE_GROUP , this should help you.
You can also goto Process Chain Maintanance in the InfoPackage Group and create the Process Chain.
If that doesn't then as a manual process, you have to note down all the InfoPackage sequence and include them in the Process Chain in the same order.

Converting infopackage groups to process chain!

Hi,
We are planning to go for upgradation in near future!
i was asked to convert all infopacakges group schedules to a process chain schedules as infopackage groups are no longer supported in BI 7( ???? i do not why BI 7 would not support Infopacakge groups)
Requirement now is to make process chains out of infopacakge groups
i am little puzzeled of how to model process chain as there are too many infopacakges in groups and there are quite a lot of groups as well

Hi Raj,
You can still do Info package groups through RSA1OLD. Info package groups are outdated
1) infopackage group you can only schedule infopackages. You would still need to do the other steps manually. Whereas in process chains you can schedule all the steps. In process chains, you can also specify complex rules like, start 6th infopackage only when 1st and 5th have completed.
2) The disadvantage of Infopackage groups is that it is outdated and there won't any new features in them. So let us say that you wanted to implement a data loading logic which can be done by process chains, it might be too late as you would have created a lot of IP Groups by that time. infopackage group..scope is limited to just infopackage..that too they run one-by-one..not in parallel..
infopakge groups if any info package fails we need to trigger all the loads
manualy .where as in Process chains just correct that particular ipak and repeat from that particular process .it will take care abt remaing subsequent chains .
And also we can trigger parallel loads as well in this. Its much user friendly in
monitoring.
Dont worry about modelling . All the related Info Packages will be in one group. You need to see the flow and Design such that have info package and then DTP. and see if many data targets have same data source.then you can have only one infopackage and filtering through many DTP's.

Converting Infopackage groups to process chains

1. Goto prcess chain maintenance screen (RSPC)
2. Create new Process Chain
3. Create variant for Start process (Give description and Tech. name).
4. From process types select "Infopackage" and drag it to the process chain window.
5. Select Infopackages used in Infopackage Group (one bu one)
6. Link thes processes as per the execution sequence in Infopackage group.(Click on process and drag to the other process)
7. Activate the process chain.

Can you please clear about ur question:
r u doing infopackage group for ur PC. How many groups u have created.
Generaly if you prepare a batch for infopackages all will run in series( u have to give in proper manner while grouping).

Assign a server group as the background server for a process chain

Dear Experts,
Can I assign a server group as the background server for a process chain?
Even I assign a server group as the background server for a process chain by following T-cd: RSPC > W click a process chain > (Menu) Process Chain > Attributes > Background server and save & activate the process chain, no entry was saved in the column in RSPCCHAINATTR-SERVER with OBJVERS = "A".
Moreover, it seems that there is no process type for a process chain as a whole in T-cd: RSBATCH, so I assume that I may not be able to assign a server group to a process chain as a whole...
I know I can assign a server group as the background server for each process in a process chain.

On many UNIX systems there's a utility called detach which will launch the following command in such a manner that killing the shell will not kill the process. On systems that lack this command, I'd find an open source implementation and install it.
