Grouping text boxes/objects

Hi- 1) I've created a text navbar for the top of the page, consisting of 10 text boxes on a shape, with lines (from the shape menu) between each box. I now want to paste this onto every other page.
2) I've repeated this for the bottom of the page but without the shape.
Is it possible to group all these together in one action, so afterwards it needs only one click to select the navbar before copying and pasting, ot simply re-positioning it ?

Hi Cyclosaurus, thanks for answering. I've got Rulers - which is a really neat little programme- for actually lining up objects.
What I meant was something different: that the objects/text boxes can be 'stuck to each other' so that they become one unit,which can then be copied and pasted with one click.
I've also experienced that- especially viewed in Windows -the text moves independently to the objects and a disaster results. Like yesterday when I uploaded all the changes I'd made to my site.

Is it possible to group text boxes in pages for iPad?

Yes, it is possible to group text boxes.
When you first create a text box, it is set to move with the text on the page. In this mode, you can't group the text boxes.
Select the first box and while holding it, tap the next text box to select them both. Then tap the Style Menu (brush)> Arrange > Wrap > Move With Text > OFF
Now tap one of the two boxes again and the option to Group should appear. Tap Group and the boxes are now grouped and can even be set to move with text again at this point, if you desire, or not, if that is your choice.
This is explained more in the Pages Help (under the Tools Menu (wrench)) under "Select, group, layer, and copy objects"

I'm having some trouble spacing groups of text boxes. Does anyone have an automated way to evenly distribute space between groups of two text boxes?

There isn't much more to this question. My format works like this:
H2 Headline
H3 Explanation
H2 Headline
H3 Explanation
H2 Headline
H3 Explanation
I need to distribute these text boxes evenly down my page. It's a bit of a pain to do so manually. Since there are other objects on the page, the spacing guidelines get thrown out of whack. My most secure way is to create a box, line it up with the bottom of the first group and the top of the next. Then repeat all the way down the page.
I thought about using just one text box but rejected it. I need to have content pulled from other portions of the site. That wouldn't be possible with only one text box. Plus, it's much easier to format the text box than individual text.
If anyone has an idea, I'd love to hear it.

mitchging If I am understanding what you require, this might be what you're after.Assuming you want to have all the boxes equally spaced, you can use the Align panel. In the screen grab the four boxes are sets of two grouped text boxes, similar to your description. Select the first group object, then select the remaining three. Open the Align panel. First set the Align To method to Key Object. Now set the distribution spacing to the required value. When you click the Vertical Distribute Space button, they will all be spaced equally. You can then fine-tune it by changing the value and hitting the button again whilst they are still selected.

Can not Group text and shape/object

I have previously made frequent use of grouping text and objects or images together. But in Keynote 4.0.2 this is not possible (for me at least). I am able to lock multiple images, but the group, mask and alpha buttons are not active when selecting a combination of the two (text and objects). Images or objects can be grouped together. Is this a bug or what ?

Open a NEW presentation (it should default to the Title and Subtitle slide of the theme)
Type some text into the Title
Insert a shape (square)
Select the shape and the Title
You should see that you cannot group anything with either the Title or Subtitle object of a slide. If you want to group text to an object, you have to create a new text object. Would this describe your inability to group (ie. limited to when you have Title/Subtitle selected?)

Converting a text box to graphic

I'm trying to copy a text box into Preview to handle it as an image. I thought I used to be able to simply copy an image from Pages, go into Preview, Open New, and paste from the clipboard. This time it's not working. In Preview, New From Clipboard is enabled, but it results in a blank page.
Also I'm not sure what format would provide the best resolution for text. I'm trying to make this bit of text an image that I can use as a layer to create a larger image to use as a greeting card in iPhoto.

When you Copy in Pages before going to Preview.app, make sure you are copying the Text Box Object and not the text layer within the Text Box. To do this click off the text box, then click once on the text box such that the corner handles are showing, and only then Command-C.

Font in text box

Is there a way for me to set the default font for a text box, so that everytime when I open one, I don't have to customize it again and again, over and over?

Sure. Open the blank template & insert a text box, click in it & choose the font, size, color, etc. you want in the fonts panel or format bar. While you're at it resize the box if you want, set the amount of extra space in the wrap inspector, etc. You can do similar changes to inserted objects & tables. Delete each text box, object & table after you've set them. Now, save this document as a template & select that template as default in preferences. If you decide to make any changes to the template down the road, just Save As Template again with the same name & replace the previous version.
While you're at it, set any default text styles you want. Now, save this as a template then, in Pages > Preferences, select this template as the default for new documents. All of your new documents will have these settings for inserted objects, images & tables. Unfortunately, the settings won't apply to any other templates or "foreign" documents you open with Pages.

Can't drag text boxes

When I try to drag a text box it automatically looks like I'm holding down the alt key and thus makes a copy of the object.

I mean when I try to move the text box object. Sorry for the long delay, but I believe this fixed itself in the last update.

You shouldn't be using the NT plugin in 3.1, is there a reason you are using this plugin over AD? If you really want to use it you may need to open a case with support and trace the CMS. Are there any groups currently mapped? if you hit update without adding/removing what happens? What if you remove the NT users group and hit update?

How to move grouped text frames as a group?

I have a threaded text frame with two text frames total in the thread. I am trying to move only the second half of the threaded text frame from the second-to-last page to the last page of my document. I have been able to successfully do this using this code:

myEndFrame.move(myDocument.pages[myDocument.pages.length-1]);
However, this code does not work when the second half of my threaded text frame has another text box grouped inside of it (such as a pull quote). In that case, the script will only move the threaded text frame part and not the other text box grouped with it. I need the two text boxes to remain grouped, and I would like to move the entire group together to the last page of my document. I have tried everything I can think of to get this to work and have been unsuccessful. (For example, I tried to get my code to move the entire group, but I can't get it to recognize the grouped text boxes as a group.) It could be that I'm missing something obvious. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If its constructor.name == "Group" redefine myEndFrame. I mean:
myEndFrame = myDocument.pages[-2].textFrames[1].endTextFrame;
if (myEndFrame.parent.constructor.name == "Group") myEndFrame = myEndFrame.parent;
myEndFrame.move(myDocument.pages[-1);

CS4 Linking Text Boxes Together in Anchored Objects?

Hi. Using InDesign CS4 I have a Anchored Object that I would like to link part of it to the next one in the text frame. Example: I have grouped together a text box, a box with a placed UPC from Illustrator and another text box stacked on top of each other, all lined up. I group this and place it in a text box so I can set these at different places along a 29" document. When I have overset text, in the top box for example, I see the + sign but can't grab it to try to link the text to the next text box in the Anchored or grouped object. All I can do it change the size of the box - even when holding down the command key on the Mac with the text too enabled. I am setting it up this way so all three boxes stay together when positioning on pages. I have multiple rows of these so it makes it easier to modify. If I take the grouped set out of the text box so it's by itself I can grab the overset text. I am trying to link text boxes so it's easier and faster to flow in text from another program. Thanks.

OK, I will try to get the whole page later. I want to keep what you see in the screen shot - one of the grouped objects - together as it goes across the page. So the 9232554 text and all bellow that would stay grouped together when I tab it over to line up to a certain spot on the page. This is placed in a text box that runs horizonal on the page, about 28" across. I also wanted to link the 9232554 box to the 9232729 box which is just a duplicate of the group of text and UPC code before it. But from what you say, and what I tried to do, I can't. Even when all the anchored object groups are in the same long text thread. I tried not grouping each section - the UPC code sandwiched by the text boxes, but could not place them in the long text box when not grouped togther.
I wanted to flow in the text to all 14 of these grouped or anchored objects, say all top boxes, in one 'paste' instead of doing each one at a time but keeping the 3 elements you see togther at all times.

Solved: InDesign CC: Problems with text in text box: text flows around invisible object

I just upgraded from CS4 to CC. I have two problems with text in some text boxes:
The text seems to flow around invisible object that I cannot find or delete. It's as if there is a photo or other object behind the text box; but when I press COMMAND-a to select all, I don't see any such object.
When I move this text box, the layout of the text within changes. For example, when the box is high on my spread, the text flows correctly within the box; but when I move it down, it flows around that hidden other object. For another example, when the box is low on the page, the text starts at the top of the box; but when I move the text box up, the text starts somewhere in the middle of the box.
I have checked margins of the text box and the paragraph options of the text paragraphs (margins, indents, alignments). They all look OK.
If I modify the text box, checking the box "Ignore text wrap", then the problem goes away; but then the text also will not flow around a real object that I want it to flow around.
Solution:
There were objects in a hidden layer on that one spread. It seems that in CS4 when you "select all" you would also select objects in hidden layers; but in CC it doesn't.

How can a text box overlap an object?

I have a 1TB late 2012 iMac. Yosemite version 10.10.2 is installed.
Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

How can I place a text box overlapping an object?
I have pasted a photo from an email into a Pages document and I'd like to put on top of it.
I have tried as many Help topics as seemed relevant, but 'Move Backwards' and 'Move to front' are greyed out.
I have been confident using this technique with Mountain Lion, but now I'm stuck.
I am old and self-taught.

Assuming you have Pages 5.x
Click on the object > Toolbar > Format > Arrange > Stay on Page > Text Wrap > None
Now you can move it. It probably was inline and part of the text.
You can not move it under the general body text however, unless you move it to the Section Masters in which case it will appear on every single page of that Section.
You will need to create a Textbox to put your text into and move that on top of the object.

Lagging when rolling over objects, text boxes, images in indesign CS5

I just installed CS5 suite onto my new upgraded machine. In InDesign, whenever I roll the cursor over and object, image, text box, there is about a 1-2 second lag in the cursor, almost like my system freezes as Indesign differentiates between the bounding boxes. My system is brand new and exceeds all system requiremnts for running CS5. Photoshop renders 3D lightning fast and I have encountered no other issues in any of the other Apps so far. Indesing itself runs fine until there are multiple frames on a page at which point just moving the pointer from one side of the screen to the other results in choppin movements and lag. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Set your Live Screen Drawing preference to delayed. Does that help?

Objects (lines) and text boxes are not able to be made bigger or smaller

first of all: For no reason at all, all of my text boxes are now set up as threaded text. I dont know how that turned on. When i go to "type"
and try to select "threaded text" it wont allow me to select it - it is not highlighted. So I have no clue
how to turn this off. Now I can not stretch my text boxes to suit whats in them - ie: make them bigger or smaller, ie: there are only two boxes to drag - one at either side of text box and they wont allow me to drag them to make the box bigger - only to move the entire box (before there were 4 boxes to manipulate the size of the text box - one on each corner - now there are only two) and this seems to apply
to many other objects now. when i draw a line, I have to make sure that line is the exact right size because once i draw it - it wont allow me to make it bigger or smaller - it only allows me to move it to a different place - i dont understand what is happening

i am pretty sure it is area type because in type i can see "area type options"
i dont know how to turn bounding boxes on or off so I can not answer that question.
yes i should be able to resize the bounding text box by dragging and ive always been able to do that. however I can no longer do that. the usual bounding text box that i am accustomed to has little teeny boxes all around the entire box - in each corner - so i can drag each corner easily
this set up that has currenly taken over my illustrator program has only TWO little teeny weeny boxes that when selected wont allow me to drag them to resize at all. when i double click on one of these two little teeny boxes it gives me the thread text tool... which i dont want and have never even used before
i just want my text boxes and everything else to go back to normal so i can drag them to resize them again
does that make more sense or have i explained it better?

Can't move objects or text boxes in indesign CS6

I'm using a Mac (10.8.5), CS6 InDesign, and today my move tool stopped working. Any object or text box I create I can't move with the selection tool/dragging it -- they'll move with the arrows on my keyboard. I tried resetting the preferences (cmd + opt + control + shift). Any other fixes?
