Groups and Importing Addresses

I would really like to meet, in person, the perverse people who write Apple's Help files.
I went to Help to figure out how to create address groups. Help told me I could, indeed, do this: Open Address Book and then go to Address Book Help. Of course, there is no such Help.
Then, wanting to import addresses from Entourage, I was told to go to File and Import Addresses. Of course, no such category exists in the File menu.
I can set up addresses one by one as I need them, but how can I set up groups?
Thanks.

Sounds like you may need to visit Troubleshooting Help Viewer.
My Address Book Help viewer is working properly which the following was copied from.
In Address Book, choose View > "Card and Columns."
Choose File > New Group and enter a name for the new group in the Group column. You can also click the Add button at the bottom of the Group column.
To add a person to the group, drag the person's name from the Name column to the group name.
To remove a person, select the person's name and choose Edit > Remove From Group. You can choose to remove the person from the group or remove the person from Address Book.
You can also create a group by selecting multiple contacts, then choosing File > New Group From Selection. You can include one group in another group address by dragging the group to the other group name.
Then, wanting to import addresses from Entourage, I was told
to go to File and Import Addresses. Of course, no such category
exists in the File menu.
A category that exists is import vCards not from a list of applications. You must export your Entourage address book contacts as vCards (you can do so by selecting all and the click and drag all highlighted contacts to a created folder on the Desktop and then use the Address Book import vCards feature or drag all highlighted contacts direct to the Address Book "All" Group.

  • How to export "Managed by" field of Distribution and Security groups and import with new values? (Exchange 2010, AD 2003)

My Active Directory environment is 2003 functional level and we have Exchange 2010.
I am trying to find out the best way to do a mass edit for the "Managed by" values of our security and distribution groups.
I know we can export the "managed by" field by csvde but I am not sure this is the correct way to do it. Also in the case that there are multiple users assigned to be managing a distribution group it only shows one value. Also powershell from Exchange
2010 can be used with "get-distribution" but as our AD environment is 2003 is this correct also?
Finally once the data is exported to csv can it be edited to then reimport and udpate the existing group managed by fields with new values?
Not really sure that the best way to go about this is.
Summary - We have 2003 AD with Exchange 2010 and I am trying to export a list of all our Distribution/Security groups showing the group name and managedby values so we can edit and update the
existing managedby values with new ones. In some cases we have multiple users as the owners.
Appreciate any advice on how this can be best achieved. Thank you.

    Hi,
We can use the following command in Exchange 2010 to export "Managed by" field of Distribution and Security groups:
    Get-DistributionGroup | Select-object Name,@{label="ManagedBy";expression={[string]::join(“;”,$_.managedby)}},Primarysmtpaddress | Export-Csv
    C:\export.csv
After you changed the Managed by field in export.csv and saved it as a new file named import.csv, we can run the following command to set with new value:
    Import-Csv C:\import.csv | Foreach-Object{ Set-DistributionGroup –Identity $_.Name –ManagedBy $_.ManagedBy}
    Hope it works.

  • Import Full Name and Emal Address

    Hi,
I have successfully connected my BOE 3.1 to SAP and imported a role with 2,500 users.
The Account Names are successfully populated but the Full Name and Email fields are not.  Further to this, if I click on any user, the "Import Full Name and Email Address" check box is actually disabled.
Is this a limitation of the integration kit?
    Will it be supported soon?
Is there a work around such us a productivity pack where we can perform a bulk update via Excel and an API call?
    Thanks,
    Steve

While it is possible to include additional roles in SAP an import them, the preferred approach is to validate the users in SAP only and to use local groups and imported SAP users for internal application security so as not t clog up the SAP system with with security roles which don't apply to it.
Unfortunately, only the 8 digit SAP HR number is imported into BOE. Someone will now have to create an excel lookup spreadsheet for all users with their ESS number and full name, then manually add users to groups after looking refering to the excel spreadsheet for each name.
Also, in the future, publications will also need email addresses.
In R2, there was a migration / productivity pack where you could programatically add users to groups in bulk.  This would assist us in adding SAP users to local BOE groups.
    Cheers,
    Steve

  • Cannot select 'Selected groups' to sync address book contacts to ipad

    Hi,
After i upgraded to iOS5, I cannot select 'selected groups' to sync address books to ipad. I am syncing via icloud, but there is no option so sync selected groups contacts, nor via itunes for manual sync.
    Can anyone help, please.

Exported addresses from Address Book to desktop and then deleted all addresses from Address Book.
    Deleted file AddressBook-v22.ab** from Library>Application Support>AddressBook.
Exited Address Book and iTunes, restarted Address Book and imported addresses from desktop.
Restarted iTunes and all of the groups were visible in the "Synch Address Book Contacts" window.

  • Retrieving User groups and email for all users in a group

    Hi Everyone,
I need to create an ADF application to retrieve all the groups in OID, the user would select a group and it should list down all the email addresses in that group.
Can you suggest what is the best way to achieve this. My main concern is how to retrieve groups and email addresses from OID. I was unable to find APIs for it.
    Your suggestions are greately appreciated.

In a multi-user environment, a user install a dreamweaver extension, but just the user who install the extension can use it.
Is there a way that administrator install the extension and make this extension available for other users in multi-user environment(e.g. the Windows 7)
Dreamweaver had this capability many releases ago, but it has been dropped, so it's no longer available.

  • Importing a group of names and email addresses from EXCEL to address book

I want to create a new group in my address book, so I can send one email to multiple addresses. I have an EXCEL document that contains the names and email addresses. Is there an easy way to import them into my address book from EXCEL?
    Thanks, Teri

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to import 300 addresses from an Excel file into Address Book. The Excel file has been converted to tab-delimited (txt). I've gone through and deleted any extra line breaks within fields, commas, etc in the addresses.
When I go to Address Book and ask it to import the Text file, I get the dialog window showing me the fields it will import, but when I click on "OK", the program just freezes. Also, it tells me in the dialog window that it won't import specific fields like Street 2, City, State or Zip and there is information in all of those fields for every record to import.
I've been working on this for three weeks now and am at my wits end. I have never had a database program be so difficult to work with.
    Any ideas?

  • TS2481 I can't rename a group I imported into my address book?

I can't rename a group I imported into my address book...It just says "last import" and in the menu it is not available to choose....

Have you tried opening Address Book from either the dock or from the Applications folder? Address Book is a separate application (although it works together with Mail), so you can just open it without opening Mail.

  • How can I send an email to a group in my address book, but hide the individual names and email addresses?

how can I send an email to a group in my address book, but hide the individual names and email addresses?

You used to be able to do this through leaving unchecked the box in preferences "when sending to a group show all member addresses". However, that feature failed some time ago (two or three years?) and the only way to hide the addresses now is to put the group in the BCC field.

  • How do I create a group in my address book to send and e-mail to multiple contacts

can I set up a group in my contacts / address book to send the an e-mail to multiple contacts?
I have mac book pro & I-pad 2 running latest operating system.
    Thanks

Yes you can by creating a group and then dragging the contacts in to it. However, since iCloud, the Edit Distribution List feature has been grayed out. Without that feature, it is not possible to specifically select a single email address for those contacts that have multiple email addresses. A major flaw that will hopefully be fixed.

  • Add contacts to address group and they disappear

I have a Macbook Pro with the old operating system.  I am attempting to put together email groups and am having trouble.  When I am in an open email and highlighting the name, I click on the down arrow and add sender to address book.  The name does not appear in my address book and the option to add to address book is gone.
Also, once I add a group to my contacts, how can I send an email to everyone in the group and how can I do so without showing everyone's email address?

Checkout the macosxhints.com article "Add Mail senders directly to Address Book groups".

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • Data import from ECC to MDG via MDMGX tool for CC group and CC hierarchy

    Hello,
We currently in process of importing data from ECC to MDG (co-deployed).
The MDMGX guide we follow mention about Accout (ACCA), Cost Center(CCTR) and Profit Center (PCTR).
While doing DIF, it shows above 3 domains but didnt mention about how cost center group(CCTRG), Cost center hierarchy (CCTRH) and same with profit center group (PCTRG) and profit center hierarchy (PCTRH) will be imported to MDG?
is there seperate process to bring hierarchy data from ECC to MDG?
    Thnx in advance
    Sahil

    Hello Sahil
With MDMGX you can load individual master data but for group and hierarchies, you have to use the old procedure. If you ask me, then the MDMGX takes longer time rather that downloading the data in file from tables directly and upload it in MDG.
Go through this document and load the hierarchy and group data.
