GroupWise 7.0.1 Vs. Windows 7

Is there any way to make it work?
Is that possible to create a "GroupWise 7 Client Portable"? :-)
Thankyou in advance!
FM

We don't have virtualziation.
Client 7.0.3 works with server 7.0.1 agents?
I haven't tried yet.

  • Migrate Groupwise 2012 to new Windows server

Could someone please tell me the quickest most efficient way of moving a Groupwise 2012 system from a Windows 2003 server to a new VM running Windows 2008 R2?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Laura.
    So the steps would be:
1 - move my post office & domain directories using DBCopy
2 - make changes in eDirectory
3 - install agents on new server
Is that the correct order? Am I missing anything?
    I'm going from a Windows 2003 Server to Windows 2008 R2

No it is not. We're looking at supporting Windows 8 with GroupWise
2012 SP2. It's unlikely that GroupWise 8 will ever be supported with
Windows 8. However, I have Windows 8 Pro installed at home and the GW8
client appears to work. My machine was upgraded from Windows 7 in case
    that makes any difference.

  • GroupWise API for Windows??

Hi does anyone know where I can download the GroupWise API for Windows if it exists at all?
Currently I am moving my GroupWise system off NetWare and Windows 2003 server, but I am using the GroupWise API 4.1
    Thanks.
    Steve.

yes Jim that is a good idea, I think may leave a single NetWare 6.5 server running just to be the master and also to the XNTPD service that a lot of my machines run!
One other point is how will the API connect to my GroupWise that will be on another box (or VM machine) ? Does the API only run on UNC or can it run over IP?

You could always put a small VMware machine running NetWare *on* the
Windows box, to handle the API gateway. Would at least eliminate the
need to leave an old piece of hardware up and running just for that.

  • Minimal open ports for groupwise to use by vpn

    Hi,
What are the minimal ports that need to be open to use groupwise online
remotely (by use of vpn) ?
We use the novell client 4.91sp4 and groupwise 7.0.3hp on windows xp sp2.
    - dns resolving for both udp and tcp are authorized and an user
authenticates to the FQDN like mail.domain.com
    - port 1677 is open, but then it takes 10 minutes, before you can do
    anything.
    - after monitoring with an account with full rights to every protocol and
port, we see NCP being used, so after having this authorized, it is already
    much better.
Still have to wait 1 minute.
Could it have something to do with the primary or dns suffix entries?
We do not use primary or dns suffix entries, so these are empty. The
connection suffix is being set by the dhcpserver. So this name differs for
    each person at home.
What we see in the capture is that the groupwise server name is being
accessed by its hostname, like <servername>.<connection suffix>
An enduser can not resolve these server names remotely, unless the FQDN is
    being used.
We do not wish to change primary of dns suffix entries, and prefer changes
on the serverside instead of clientside, but is this possible in this
    situation?
Anyone has experience with this ?
Also some icmp request are being made. Is it required to allow icmp to the
    groupwise server?
    regards,
    Marcel
by the way : if we remove the novell client, then only port 53, 1677 are ok
and performance is ok (within 10 seconds groupwise client opens)

    Hi Craig,
Thanks for your answer, but how do you explain that adding ncp (524) over
    tcp is decreasing the timeout?
In the Groupwise client options the archive and views are all located on a
netware server using the UNC syntax.
I do not see the public ip in the traces. In fact when tracing with a client
with restricted rights, I do not see anything at all. I need to trace with
all rights, to see what possibly could be used as protocol. Then I noticed
ncp (524) being accessed. So after that I authorized that and it was like a
    dream came true.
However.... like I said. only with the novell client (4.91sp4) being used.
without novell client it just works fine. In vista with both novell client
and vpn client the slow gwclient also does not appear.
    regards,
    Marcel

  • Restricting access to the Admin WebConsole of WebAccess 2012

    Hi,
With the new WebAccess 2012 web application, the console is now a WebConsole that can be accessed by the URL http://<server>/gw/webacc?action=Admin.Open
I search the KB, the documentation and now this forum, looking for a way to restrict access to my precious WebAccess Console. No luck! (Only one thread ask for a similar solution restrict admin tool based on ip with no solution provided so far)
Humm So we are only 2 guys in the Groupwise community concern with security in those days? No engineer at Novell ask himself if exposing an Admin console to the Whole Internet is a good idea?
Furthermore, login (successes and failures) to the Webconsole are not written to log files. So I cannot even monitor if my WebConsole is under a brute force attack!
Here some technical information to consider:
    1) I have Groupwise 2012 SP2 running under Windows 2008 R2
    2) Since the Admin Webconsole is hosted under the same web site as WebAccess, I cannot restrict access to the URL http://<server>/gw/webacc?action=Admin.Open without blocking at the same time access to WebAccess using firewall or IIS rule.
    3) I do not want to use IPS to restrict access to this URL

  • PO in New Jersey is down... ooops!

    Hi.
OK we are a UK based group with a Groupwise PO sitting on a windows server in New Jersey. No power, no comms and staff cannot get to the site.
We have another New York showroom and users can get in there, but of course all their mail is based on the PO in New Jersey...
Is there any way I can get the server to forward all of their emails to a second email address. Then I can of course setup a secondary email address for these users... it's all a bit messey. I know they can not see the stuff queued up on our UK Server waiting to connect to their PO When its on I guess but I need some way of getting them in and viewing emails from now that are sent to their original email addresses if I just change their email addresses on their existing users and create new users with their correct address with that work or will edirectory just scream as it cannot of course connect to their po to actually change their original email addresses?
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm not a genius but know my way around a bit so any clever good ideas are appreciated.

Providing you have access to the primary domain you can rebuild the New Jersey domain and post office onto a temporary server. The high level steps are:
    1. Create domain and post office folders on a temporary server
    2. Copy .dc files from working domain and post office to respective folders on the temporary server
    3. Copy ofviews folder from working post office to post office folder on the temporary server and create ofmsg, ofuser offiles folders.
    4. Open ConsoleOne and connect to primary domain
    5. Update paths and IP addresses of New Jersey domain, post office and agents with those of the temporary server.
    6. Rebuild the New Jersey secondary domain and set database path to the temporary server.
    7. Connect to New Jersey secondary domain; rebuild New Jersey post office and set database path to the temporary server.
    8. Install the message transfer and post office agents onto the temporary server. Update the startup files accordingly.
    9. Start the agents.
The essentially recreates the post office. Post office should be accessible as before ( e.g. WebAccess ) but will have no messages. Any new messages will be delivered to the new post office and the New Jersey users should be able to work.
When the original domain and post office server are again available connect to the primary domain update the domain, post office and IP addresses accordingly. To merge the temporary mailboxes with the original mailboxes either connect to temporary server and archive the messages or copy the temporary post office to restore area and restore the messages.

  • New GWIA on Linux - ConsoleOne does not show all GWIA tabs

    Hi,
Last night I moved a POA and MTA to a new Linux server (SLES 11 sp1 on VMWare), which are running fine. I then had to install the GWIA to this server so I deleted the old GWIA object (which was running on Windows) and then ran the install for the GWIA on Linux. The GWIA agent runs on Linux now - at least according to the monitor on port 9850, but in Consoleone I do not have all the normal tabs associated with the GWIA object - just the "Groupwise" tab. All snap-ins, of course, are there because I can manage all other GW objects without a problem. Any clues? Thanks!

No, no, no. Mapping a drive letter is not the solution. In fact, it fixed itself after apparently running an update process at night. Everything is on the Linux server w/Linux paths in C1 - don't need any stinking drive letter mappings running C1 from the Linux console.

  • Outlook 2013 Crashes During Initial Email download

GroupWise 2012 sp3 running on Windows 2008r2. Mobility Services 2.1. We upgraded on 4/18/15. We are trying to set this up on his Outlook 2013. Everything works until it downloads 406 emails. Outlook then crashes and restarts. The next time it tries to receive, it crashes and restarts again. He has been running IMAP for years with no problems. Is there a limit on how many emails can be downloaded via Mobility Services?

None that I am aware of.
I've seen users with many more emails in their systems syncing to their mobile devices, so it isn't a limit on that
side. I would doubt Outlook would have such a low limit, but it a new function with Outlook to use Active Sync.
Does the number of messages change as more messages are received or deleted?
What does GMS show for the connection after this crash?
Which Windows is Outlook running on?
How much RAM?, Doe C: have lots of room on it?
First things I would look at are to make sure a basic health cleanup on the PC as I've found that solves a bunch of
problems as well as making it easier if more trouble shooting is needed.

  • GW802HP1 Openoffice Integration ODT issue

    Hi,
we just experienced that since version 3.2 (3.2 upwards, also with 3.2.1-8)of Novell Openoffice it is not possible to save Opendocument Text (odt) in a groupwise library under Groupwise 8.02 HP1 Windows XP Client.
It doesnt matter wether you save documents in a storage or at postoffice.
Anyone having this issue or can confirm that ?
The issue does only occur with document integration enabled. Of course this is the recommended and also installed standard setting.
    The Error inside Openoffice is:

The object cannot be accessed due to insufficient user rights.

  • Secure wireless authentication

I have just been reading all the posts about secure wireless access and I am
not happy with the direction Novell has chosen to take.
I have been extremely pleased with Netware, GroupWise & ZenWorks but Novell
is starting to loose it's appeal.
Let me summarize what I have learned and see if I have made any mistakes
    with my understanding.
    1. Novell has stopped development on their Radius server and have no plans
    to resume development.
    2. Novell contributed code to the open source FreeRadius project.
    http://www.novell.com/news/press/arc...2/pr05008.html
    3. There isn't any Radius server with 802.1x authentication that runs on
    Netware (Netware kernel).
    a. Novell's Radius server (BMAS or the newer NMAS server) doesn't do
    802.1x authentication.
    b. I have contacted Funk and this is their reply. Steel-Belted Radius
Server will run on Windows and Solaris (Linux is coming).
    http://www.funk.com/News&Events/sbr_linux_pn.asp
    c. MTG House hasn't gotten back to me about a solution for Netware. (I
am doubtful, I didn't find anything on their website.)
    4. You need to run a Radius server that does 802.1x authentication and will
    work/integrate with eDir.
    a. FreeRadius (Linux) will integrate with Edir.
    http://www.novell.com/documentation/...ius/index.html
    http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/15383.html
    b. Funk's Steel-Belted Radius server (Windows, Solaris & Linux is in
    beta).
    http://www.funk.com/radius/default.asp
    c. Aegis Server
    http://www.mtghouse.com/products/aeg...er/index.shtml
    5. You need a 802.1x Client to authenticate to a Radius server for wireless
    authentication.
    a. Microsoft has 802.1x support in their client. (read this from other
    posts in this forum)
    b. Novell isn't planning on putting 802.1x support in the NW Client.
(read this from other posts in this forum)
    c. There are 2 Radius clients that integrate with the NW Client for
    Radius Edir authentication.
    1. Funk's Odyssey Client ($45 - $50 per workstation depending on
quantity) + added annual maintenance costs.
$2281.25 for 50 Client licenses & annual maintenance.
    http://www.funk.com/radius/wlan/wlan_c_radius.asp
    2. Aegis' Client ($32 - $39.99 per workstation depending on
quantity) + added annual maintenance costs.
$2240.00 for 50 Client licenses & annual maintenance.
    http://www.mtghouse.com/products/aeg...nt/index.shtml
    http://www.mtghouse.com/novell_app_note_122204.pdf
    3. When FreeRadius is integrated with Edir is this separate client
    still needed?
I didn't see anything about a separate client being needed while
reading the Integrating FreeRadius with Edir documentation.
    6. FreeRadius support is going to be built-in to the next version of Edir.
    http://www.novell.com/news/press/arc...2/pr05008.html
Why didn't Novell contribute code to port FreeRadius to Netware?
At this point in time they are still giving us a choice between the Netware
kernel and the Linux kernel. To me that says they are willing to make
things work with both systems until they drop support for the Netware
kernel. Ok, so give me support for 802.1x authentication in the Netware
kernel. I don't have stray single purpose servers floating around my
network and I don't want to have to begin that practice just to get Radius
    802.1x authentication working.
I also won't put my district at a disadvantage by upgrading to the Linux
kernel until I know Linux well enough to administer it properly. I am the
IT department at this district so I don't have a great deal of extra time to
run about learning the new things I would LOVE to learn. I'm sure I'm not
the only person in this situation so Novell should take these things into
concideration before they just drop support for a product they say they are
still supporting. Obviously all of the real support is going toward the
    Linux side at Novell.
    Daniel Blake
    Milford Central School

Ok, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say fine the Netware kernel
might as well be considered dead. So they are giving me support via
FreeRadius if I just migrate to OES (Linux). Ok, I might/can live with that
    as a Novell decision.
But that still doesn't explain why they don't give us some client to log in
via 802.1x. Giving us the server but not the client is like giving us a
locked door without a key. That's just plain stupid. I would rather stay a
Netware - OES shop, but if Novell can't think something this simple through
then I'm a little nervous about staying with them. What could they think up
    next?
I guess Novell has decided to port all it's software to Windows cause it
sucks so bad at business decisions. GroupWise & ZenWorks run completely on
Windows now, so why do I need OES at all? Except for complexity &
integration issues of course. I mean why would I need to purchase Edir for
Windows if I didn't stay with OES? Or Nsure Identity Manager for that
matter. So if we start looking deeper into this we see Marketing all over
this thing. Novell Marketing has always done such a good job for Novell.
Novell has given me a real choice that will work though. If I migrate
completely to a Windows network it just works without any added costs. Heck
it even makes my installs easier without having to install the NW Client on
every new workstation. I can still run ZenWorks & GroupWise too.
Now, how is Novell Marketing going to screw up and make me hate GroupWise &
Zenworks so I migrate completely away from Novell products? Way to go
    Novell!

  • Guide for moving GW2012 from OES2 (32) to OES11 (64) on NSS?

    Hi there,
    I have to move a Groupwise 2012 system (no big deal - 30 users, 1poa, 1gwia) from OES2 (32bit) - to OES11 (64bit). File system is NSS on both.
I already set up the OES11 system but have not installed any groupwise thing.
Is there a general setup/Howto guide anywhere? I only find howtos for moving from Netware/Windows to OES11 but not from OES2.
    Thanks for any hints.
OH BTW: It's no migration, the new OES11 system should run parallel to the old OES2 system. At least for a while.... So new hostname, new ip, etc.... Just have to move Groupwise from one to the other...

    Hi,
    thx for your replys.
Yes, this is the upgrade guide to GW2012, but I am already on GW2012.
I just want to move an existing GW2012 System from OES2SP3-32bit to OES11SP1-64bit (Filesystem: NSS on both). I cannot do a server migration, cause the old server has to run for a while parallel to the new one - just without the groupwise system...
I think gwoelfels post comes most close to my problem....

  • Empty e-mail in Work in Progress Folder

We have GroupWise 8 running on a Windows 2008 server. The version of GroupWise on the server is 8.0.3.
One of our users started to reply to a message using the GW desktop client. She saved it as a Work in Progress. She re-opened it twice and added to it, once with the desktop client and once using Chrome and WebAccess. It was after that, that her message was empty in both clients.
Has anyone come across this before?

    Might she have sent it?
    Check the sent items
and even the trash bin to be sure.
Perhaps even do a search for the message incase it accidentally got
    dragged into another folder.
Are other messages showing in the WIP folder? Create a new one if there
    aren't any in there.
