GroupWise Monitor on Linux
I'm trying to follow the instructions for Add a Novell Messenger System to my existing monitor system.
Use web browser to http://<server name>:8200
Click Preferences
Add Agents
My problem is I don't know what to put in the Novell Messenger System Object: and User Name:
I have tried:
MessengerService.TreeName
MessengerService,TreeName
cn=MessengerService.o=TreeName
cn=MessengerService,o=TreeName
So are these Typed or or not?
Are they LDAP or eDirectory notation ( . or , )
Thanks David.

Polling information from GroupWise (Monitor) to Nagios
Hi,
I am currently setting up a monitoring environment based on an Open Moniotoring Dustribution server (using a Nagios core). The setup performs fine so far and I am almost done figuring out how to get the data I want.
One of the big things left on my todo-list is our GroupWise-cluster. Since the cluster was installed and is serveiced by an external company and I have close to no knowledge of the inner workings of GroupWise, we as a group decided that it would be wise that I use read-only-SNMPv2 to monitor those servers. I wasn't exactly pleased when I learned that SNMP doesn't work on 64-Bit-Linux-servers.
After learning that we have a working GroupWise Monitor running, I was wondering if it is possible to poll Data from the GroupWise Monitor and get it to my Nagios-server.
If not, what else can I do in order to get my all of my monitoring done with Nagios.
Thanks
FabianHi,
I thought it would come to a solution like this. I guess I dont't have to use/learn curl since this could also be done using any script-language.
I hoped to find someone here who has already written a script for that.
After talking to our GroupWise-guy I am left with two options:
1)Waiting for the next Version which is rumored to include SNMP for 64-Bit-Versions
2)Writing a script which would take time
I'm inclined to go for option 1 because of time restrains.
But thanks anyway.

Event Monitor on Linux question
We are currently running NSM 2.0. The engine is version 2.00.37 running on a NetWare 6.5 sp7 server. The two event servers are version 2.00.15 running on NetWare 6.5 sp7 servers. We are needing to decommission the two servers that are our current event servers and replace them with SLES. No plans are in place to upgrade the server running the NSM engine. I see from the documentation that we will need to upgrade NSM to 2.5 in order to run the event servers on SLES. The documentation states "installing the NSM Event Monitor for Linux requires OES2-SP1 or SLES 10 SP2." The directions then go on to state how to install on a OES2 box. Do you have to install the event monitors on OES2? Will the event monitors run on SLES 11?
We already have 64 bit SLES 11 systems in the partition and would like to use these instead of installing more servers if possible. If we need to install OES2 servers, is it OK if they are virtual?I guess I am a little confused. We have SLES 11 boxes with eDirectory 8.8.5 sp4 installed. These servers also run LDAP and hold read/write replicas of the partition the users reside in. Why do I need to run OES2 to monitor eDirectory events?

There is no problem installing on a virtual server.

SMC 3.5 to monitor a Linux PC
Will SunMC 3.5 monitor a Linux machine? How about a VxWorks OS/Filesystem?
ThanksWill SunMC 3.5 monitor a Linux machine? Yes:
http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=8&PartDetailId=SUNMC-3.5-LX-G-F&TransactionId=try
That package is technically for 3.5.1, but it can work with 3.5 as well with a minor configuration change.
How about a VxWorks OS/Filesystem?Only in the specific case where it's VxWorks for a 3800-6900 system controller, and even then only to get hardware status of the entire box. There is currently no native SunMC client for VxWorks... but you may be able to find ways around it.

I'm having trouble generating reports using GroupWise monitor. When I
run them, nothing appears to happen. I've seen other threads from a
while back where people were having the same problem, but didn't see
any solutions posted.
Has anyone been able to resolve this problem?
Thanks!

GWIA "not listening" in GroupWise Monitor
When I check my GW Monitor to check the status of GroupWise, I see that the
GWIA is listed as "Not Listening". Mail is coming and going through the
GWIA (as evidenced by this message).
The problem appeared after a power outage that went on long enough for the
UPS to shut down servers. Wehn I restarted them This problem appeared. I
am running GW 8.0.2 on OES2 sp2 (linux). I also have GWAVA 4.5 running on
the same box.
I am assuming that it has to do with settings in the monitor? The log says
the GWIA is not running. When I try and go to
http://myserver-ip-address:9850 I get an "unable to connect" error.
What am I missing?

Groupwise Monitor breaks MRTG & SNMP
On my OES Linux SP2 i configured MRTG to display lan traffic and cpu usage
and more; after installing GW Monitor MRTG stopped working. Found info in a
newsgroup thread saying that in /etc/ld.so.conf i have to insert line with
/usr/lib before line with /opt/novell/groupwise/agents/lib and run ldconfig
to make MRTG working again. It looks like that groupwise delivers older (not
compatible) librarys and breaks working (SNMP) system. It is not possible to
run MRTG and GW Monitor together; either GW Monitor or MRTG does not work
depending on existance of the line /usr/lib in /etc/ld.so.conf.
Ho to make both (MRTG and GW Monitor) working?

7.0.2 monitor agent, linux, email
How does the Linux monitor agent perform email notification? Have a complaint that not all events are being emailed, consistently.
Why not use our own GWIA? The destination is internal. Right now, it is going to the (a) GWIA. I can change it, if necessary.

Missing data in server monitor under linux and solaris
Some metrics are not displayed in our environments, specifically under the statistics tab, request statistics, active coldfusion thread, we always have a zero line. Also under memory usage, "cf threads by memory usage" is always empty. I have all three buttons at the top checked so they are monitoring. Is there something else I'm doing wrong?
Environment 1 : dell2850->centos5->vmware->centos5->32bitJDK5->tomcat6->coldfusion8
Environment 2 : sun5120->solaris10->64bitJDK5->tomcat6->coldfusion8
I'm specifically wanting thread info to check if I should increase the defaults in CFIDE configuration. Most everything on the server is being delivered faster now that we are using a 64bit JVM and have moved to solaris in production (from windows). But there are some sections of our cfm logic that are taking much longer now (2000% longer)
Thanks
AhnjoanHi all,
does anyone can write some info why java Threads are
recorded in the list of process (ps -ef) when you run
on a Linux box, but not the same when you run on
Solaris ? Which Thread support is more
performant/stable that on Linux or that on Solaris?
Thanks
FrancescoLinux treats kernell threads as light weight processes and displays them as if they are actual processes - they of course are not, so the results of 'ps' can be misleading. Solaris fully differentiates between its three concepts of threads, lightweight processes and processes and 'ps' only shows actual processes.
Both implementations in Linux and Solaris perform well.
By the way, Solaris 8 has an optional, slightly different thread model than earlier versions of Solaris (in fact it is more like NT's) and that can be more efficient for JVM's or other multithreaded systems running on SMP systems. It can also be worse - your mileage may vary. -

How to use different wallpapers on multiple monitors with Linux
Umm...ok. I use XFCE4 as my DM. It allows me to have a different wallpaper on each desktop.
Though I'm not interested in other DMs, what DMs would require that I use this third party tool?If you have multiple monitors and run Linux, you may want to display different images as your wallpaper on each monitor. Can anyone confirm whether this should or should not work? Or maybe point me in the right direction of what hardware is involved in that second port?
Nevermind. Apparently making sure the cable is plugged in all the way is an important step In case anyone else happens to be wondering about this, it works perfectly fine.
