GroupWise Webaccess timeout on iPhone

I'm working for an organization's IT, and one of our users started to use Groupwise Webaccess with the browser of his iPhone, and experienced that the inactivity timeouts (when the webmail server kick you out after given ammount of idle time, when no communication is between the server and the web-browser) happen much earlier than his office PC, with various browsers.
Currently the timeout for webaccess is set to 30 mins on the server side, and it works fine with Internet Explorer, Firefox, even with Mac version of Safari. However, on iPhone's Safari it happens after 5-10 mins (which can expire fast when you compose a message). Moreover, this is not affected by the timeout-setting of the webacccess-server, so extending the timeout from 20 to 30min on the server had no effect on the iPhone-browser timeout, it remained 5-10 mins.
What we already did on iPhone: upgrade to the latest iPhone software, cache/history cleaning and reboot, based on the suggestions of http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7097917&#7097917 , but in vain, the problem still persists.
Any idea and suggestion is appreciated, and thanks in advance!

update: the problem persists after upgrading to the new iPhone SW (v2.2.1)

    There are several TID's about this issue, like:
    10051447: Error:"Unable to communicate with GroupWise WebAccess Agent" on login
    Unable to communicate with GroupWise WebAccess Agent
    Also do a search here in the forums for that error, it will show many threads that will get you going.

  • The Groupwise WebAccess can be recognize after install

    HI All,
    After install the groupwise webaccess, I try to configure webaccess, this error shows
    "GroupWise WebAccess is not installed. Please install it and run GroupWise WebAccess Configuration again"
    I enable proxy module already.
    Could you tell me how to debug this case?

    I tried 3 times with another server.
    After install Webaccess, I checked in the apache configuration and there is nothing related to webaccess like what i saw in groupwise 2012.
    Updated: I have just installed webaccess 2014 successfull in the upgraded system(from 2012 to 2014) .
    So I think the webaccess needs more requirement than ibm java 6 and apache2 & tomcat6.

  • Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError with Novell GroupWise WebAccess Version 6.5

    Before I upgraded to Tiger (10.4.4) yesterday from Panther (10.3.9) & the latest version of Safari (I did not write down the exact version as I wiped out my hard drive when upgrading), the Novell GroupWise WebAccess version 6.5 was working perfectly fine.
    However, since the upgrade & using Safari 2.0.3 (417.8), I am getting the following error message after submitting my loginID and password.

    Both Safari and Netscape has out of the box setting, and both have Java/Javascript enabled.
    Both have Java 1.3.1 Plug-ins

    Never mind. I found the solution myself...

  • Groupwise Webaccess Basic Interface via NAM (Access Manager)

    Hi,
    I have just setup Groupwise as a protected resource behind NAM (Access Manager), and it works great. The only issue is that I did not take account for the mobile users using the webaccess basic interface. What I think is a possible solution is to have a different URL for the basic interface along the lines of http://portal.website.com/gwbasic, but what I need to do is to be able to get webaccess at the backend to open in basic interface mode from NAM. Can anyone please give me some clues of what needs to be passed in the headers to get Webaccess to render the basic interface?
    Thanks,
    Mark Currie

    Yeah I flipped a coin whether to post it here or in the NAM forum...I don't normally like to multi-post, but I think I will make an exception is this case as it concerns both products...I've been trying to capture the post from the webacc login screen to see if I can fool it without much success so far....Need to do SSO as their are quite a few line of business apps that are being NAM'ed. Thanks, Mark Currie

  • GroupWise Mobile Server and iphone.

    Hello,
    I have several users with iPhones and they have started calling us about synchronizing this device with our GroupWise system. Does GroupWise Mobile Server ver. 3.0.1 support iPhons? If not, Is Novell working on a new release version that will support iPhones?
    Thank you very much.

    I just threw out the "Novell claims to" part just to fire a few people up.
    It would be nice if the Novell would offer something to their real customers
    rather than just distant blogs notes here and there.
    There used to be a time that if you had any questions about a new or
    promised product release you could contact your Novell sales rep. Right now
    I have no idea if I even have one, much less if he or she would have any
    answers.
    My comment that Novell claims to be working on a solution is not false,
    publicly there is no proof of the product that was at first announced to be
    released in the fall of 2009.
    The real GroupWise customers will be lucky to even see such a product by the
    fall of 2010 and my best bet, it will be early 2011 before such can be
    implemented at least around here and after seeing the flaws in GW 8 that
    were shipped, I don't expect it will be stable until the 2nd version or
    couple of services packs later.
    Simple fact is, I can't depend on Novell for a mobile solution for email. I
    have to find some other cheap solution or change email platforms.

  • Multiple abends on server hosting groupwise webaccess

    Hi all,
    I've suddenly got a problem with my Webaccess agent, this started happening a couple of weeks ago and I've tried to install the agent on another server.
    Problem:
    After the server abends about 10-20 times i get this message in agent log window:
    Error: Request aborted while waiting on locked conversation
    After this message occurs nobody can logon to mail, we only get unable to communicate with post office agent. After restart it works again for a few hours, then abends again.
    Thanks for any help, as this is driving me mad!

  • Network connection timeout during iPhone upgrade

    This topic has been mentioned many times but it seems there are still many unresolved cases. So here's another appeal for help, maybe someone will go "AHA" !
    I have disabled my firewall by stopping the service. I disable my anti virus software. My connection is hardwired. The connection is FiOs and very fast. The computer is pretty "vanilla" as I don't tinker with it. Another phone/computer in the household is able to upgrade.
    The download appears to finish but fails in the processing file step. I assume there is some additional communication back to apple at this point that is timing out for some reason.
    Can anyone suggest a workaround? Or perhaps a suggestion of some other windows or network settings that can cause this failure. Something on my system is clearly blocking the communication as I have never been able to upgrade on this computer.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    I have the same problem. After waking up the MBP from sleep, my connection to my external Volume via AFP is lost. (ML 10.8.2.)
    Though i checked a lot of forums, but didn't find out how to solve this problem.
    I hope, somebody will find a solution …
    Cheers
    Alex

  • IPad issue with WebAccess (8.0.2.hp2)

    Hi.
    Accessing the webaccess page is generally fine, when using an iPad.
    writing a new email also opens. recepient's address can be entered fine, same for
    subject. But the main "edit" for the email text cannot be used to enter any text,
    the focus & cursor cannot be placed in it.
    Who knows, what's going wrong here?
    Regards, Rudi.

    Hi.
    >This is the only way at the moment, I think... 'How to Enable IPads and
    >IPod Touches to Automatically Use GroupWise Webaccess Simple Templates'
    >(http://www.novell.com/support/php/se...rnalId=7006843)
    >There should be better support for iPad/iPhone in next GW release.
    I can't believe it!
    Hm. Just tried the "basic interface", now I'm wondering, if this really is the same
    as "Webaccess Simple Templates", I'll edit the config files as mentioned in
    TID7006843, thanks so far, Rudi.
    When using an IPad to access GroupWise Webaccess, the ability to navigate is
    hampered by the css (Cascading Style Sheets) that are used in the default view
    presented.
    Resolution
    The Webaccess Application can be modified to detect when an IPad or IPod Touch
    browser is accessing the system and return the simple templates instead of the css
    templates.
    To set this up, please follow the directions below:
    1. Locate the webacc.cfg file for your Webaccess Application. The default locations
    are listed below:
    a) Linux /OES2 - /var/opt/novell/groupwise/webaccess
    b) NetWare - sys:/novell/webaccess
    c) Windows - c:\novell\groupwise\webaccess
    2. Make a backup copy of the file before changes are made
    3. Open the file with a text editor
    4. Within the file, there will be a section where there will be many entries that
    start with "Templates.UserAgent.#.id=*string reported by browser*". Note the entry
    listed with the largest number. Afterward, create 4 new lines. If the highest
    existing number in an existing entry is 8, then an entry should be created like the
    one below:
    Templates.UserAgent.9.id=*iPad
    Templates.UserAgent.9.interface=simple
    Templates.UserAgent.10.id=*iPod
    Templates.UserAgent.10.interface=simple
    5. Save and exit the file
    6. Restart Tomcat using the one of the commands below and then test with your IPad.
    a. To restart Tomcat on NetWare enter the following commands from the console
    java -exit
    tomcat4.ncf
    b. To restart Tomcat on Windows, open the Services Console and right-click Tomcat
    5.5 and choose Stop and then right click again and choose Start.
    c. To restart Tomcat on Linux/OES2, open an terminal window as the root user and
    issue the command "rcnovell-tomcat5 restart". On other SuSE Linux Enterprise
    distributions, the command will be "rctomcat# restart" where the # sign represents
    the version of Tomcat that is running.

  • Install WebAccess 8 on Windows Server 2008 R2

    I am running the installation of the GroupWise WebAccess 8.0.2 Agent and Application on a Windows 2008 R2 Server. The domain is on a local drive, running IIS7, and installing to the Default Web Site in IIS. It appears that the installation completes successfully, but there is not WebAccess site on the IIS site.
    After a couple of attempts, I noticed that toward th end of the installation, a command prompt flashes briefly displaying the following:
    Configuring Tomcat to work with IIS. Please wait...
    'C:\Windows\system32\servermanagercmd.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
    I have confirmed that this executable is in that location, and I can manually run it.
    Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!

    I have this SAME issue right now....if anyone has an answer, or if you obtained one Jose since last August, I'd appreciate hearing what the answer was....thanks......

  • Install GoDaddy Wildcard SSL cert on GW WebAccess - ver.8

    I have followed all of the documentation regarding generating a CSR, creating the new eDirectory object from which that CSR is generated, then subsequently downloading and doing the "read from file" SSL cert installation, and it won't validate.
    I have a NetWare 6.5, SP8 server running Apache/Tomcat and it's our GroupWise WebAccess server (version 8).
    I want to encrypt the sessions as well as the authentication from the GW WebAccess login screen (right now, it's just http://).
    Our institution purchased a wildcard, unlimited subdomain, SSL certificate from GoDaddy to use for this, and other, SSL cert. needs.
    No matter what I do, it won't work.
    I am using ConsoleOne to create the new eDirectory object according to the documentation, generate the CSR, and install the certificate, but to no avail.
    Can anyone help?

    Only difference between a wildcard and a regular (apart from price) is that
    a wildcard covers all hosts in a domain,. Ie *.acme.com, whereas a regular
    cert only covers a named host, homer.acme.com

    I am running SBE 2.0 upgrading soon to SBE 2.5. I am not using sub domains, so I think I should be fine with just a normal cert. The real reason I want to go with a cert from a CA instead of a self signed is for webaccess.

  • Redirect default page to Webaccess

    Hello,
    I have installed GW Webaccess V7.0SP4 on SLES 10 (eDir V8.8.3).
    NO OES!
    I read a lot of documentations and postings to the following issue. But nothing helps - for that following issue.
    I am only want to redirect the default page of the Webacces Server to the /gw/webaccess url. On NetWare no Problem but on Linux ???
    Lets say: Autochangechange https://webmail.xxx.de in https://webmail.xxx.de/gw/webaccess in users browser.
    I create a index.html containing following code.
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0; URL=https://webmail.xxx.xx/gw/webacc">
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="#ffffff">
    <p> Loading GroupWise WebAccess........ </p>
    </body>
    </html>
    But where should I copy these file ? Where does Apache search for index.html on Linux. I try a lot of different directories, which was named in a couple of TIDs but nothing works. Restart Server wont help, too.
    Main Question: Where could I find index.html and apache config file on SLES10 GWWEBACCESS installation?

    I just put the following index.html (modified the redirect in the default Novell index.html) in the /srv/www/htdocs

  • WebAccess Admin Portal not working after upgrade to GW 2014

    GroupWise was upgraded from2012 to 2014 on a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 64 bit. GroupWise WebAccess is working fine but when I try to get to the WebAccess Admin console, http://server IP/gw/webacc?action=Admin.Open, I received the following error message after I put in my login information (yes, it does bring me to the login screen).
    Error message: Unable to connect to the GroupWise Admin Console @https://127.0.0.1:9710/gwadmin-service/system/whoami
    It was functioning before the upgrade. On the GroupWise server, if I go to http://127.0.0.1 it does take me to the Welcome screen and if I go to http://127.0.0.1/gw/webacc I can successfully log into my GroupWise WebAccess account.
    Why can't I Access the WebAccess Admin Console?
    Thanks,
    Kim Akey

    I believe you must use admin user you defined for the new Gw2014 administration web console for login.
