Growing Library: Moving to a ministack to be editable.

Hi:
I have a question about moving an imovie library so it will be editable onto an external HD. Should I just move it over in the finder and then open imovie and specify a folder in prefs?
Any help would be great!
Thanks.

I actually am illiterate on the use of the finder to to view photos in folders.  I guess I will go to a class at the local Apple store for a lesson on the uses of finder .
My method of viewing my photos are through events in I photo.
    1. Download  from camera or scan  in from old photos.
2  I organize photos into events by occasion, or happenings in a certain year, or a group of photos with memorabilia of a certain person from childhood and on. etc.
    3.  Because Iphoto does not allow rearranging as I was able to do in my old PC with Corell,  I drag all of the photos to an " album" on the left side of sceen.
    4.  I arrange photos in "order" after which I number each photo in sequence. I do this for a few of reasons.
              - if a photo is accidentally deleted I know it.  I can usually remedy this by checking my trash or
    rescanning.
              - I can sort by title without complications and this holds in "album"
    5.  The pictures will re arrange automatially to match the album in I photo.
    6.  This worked great in I-photo 09 but now in mountain lion the pictures in events go back to "
sort by date" and will not hold "sort to Title"each time I photo is closed down.  What a nuicance it is to have to go  to view and click "title"  again and again every time Iphoto is opened.
    7. Can I go back to Photo 09? .

  • ITunes Locks up when Library moved to NAS

I recently bought a Synology DS1511+ NAS in part to store my growing iTunes library. So I followed Apple's directions for moving my iTunes Library; changed the default library location to a share on my nas, then consolidate the library to have iTunes copy everything to the new location, and finally moved the library database files. However, After I would get done watching a movie, which would play fine, iTunes would lock up consistently when I would try to click on another section like music, aps, and ect... When I moved my library back to local storage no lockups. Does anybody have any ideas? I know more and more people are using a NAS to storage their iTunes Librarys, so I thought this would be pretty simple. I'm running Windows 7 64 with a 1 GIGBIT network connection to my PC and NAS.

If it works fine when the library is local but locks up when the library is on the NAS, that would indcate either problems with the NAS or the network.

  • Unable to sync my ipod-library moved to external harddrive

    Please Help
I have moved my library to an external harddrive, and had no problems for quite a while, but now i cannot sync my pod.
It is saying that the original file cannot be found. I have made sure that itunes is looking in the right place, and can make it find them manually (when it asks if I wish to locate it, I can go straight to the correct file), but with over 2500 tunes, this is going to take forever. Any one have any thoughts on how this can be rectified?
I have tried consolidating the library as suggested elsewhere in this forum, but to no avail. HELP!

You get exclamation marks or dead tracks because iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible.
The most likely thing is that the external drive letter has changed, but that is just a guess. If it has, can you change it back?
If that's not it can you confirm your configuration.
Is you iTunes folder containing the library files located on your c: drive with just the music on the external drive.
If you go to Edit>>Preferences>>advanced, what is the setting for your iTunes Music folder?
What letter is allocated to your external drive and what is the name of the folder containing the music.

  • IPhoto library moved to new external HD- now doesn't show up in iPhoto

Hello- Yesterday I successfully added a Maxtor One Touch II external hard drive to my system, and partitioned it for a bootable backup and extra storage. I did backup the entire computer at that time.
Today I moved my iPhoto library (my first step in making some room on my internal hard drive) to the extra storage partition on the external. Everything went fine, I was able to work with my photos and made cd backups of about 2/3 of the library. Since all looked well, I did start trashing images and data from the old iphoto library in the Pictures file from the years that I had backed up on cd.
After a computer restart, I opened iPhoto to a vast grey emptiness. It is obviously not finding the new library on the external HD, but it is not giving me the dialog box to give it directions. The new library folder shows up on the external- how do I direct iPhoto to the new location? It does not appear that iPhoto has created a new empty library in my Pictures folder, the only thing there is the old (now incomplete) library.
    Thanks!

Looks like I'm back in business!
Yesterday, I'd tried renaming and changing the location of my old library folder with no results. In my panic, I totally missed the instructions to hold down the option key to get the dialog box and never tried that.
However, when I tried it this morning- still nothing! I found the new library on the external HD and clicked on it, but still no pictures. So moved the old library again, and I shut everything down (again) and restarted- and now it's working fine. I quit iPhoto and opened it several more times to make sure it was still working and it is.
Thanks for taking the time to respond!

  • IPhoto library moved to external HD

I moved my iPhoto library to an external drive to free up space on my mac HD. Now the projects I've made and shared on youtube, that have iPhoto videos in them can't be found, so I get a message that they will show up as blank frames. I am able to see the iPhoto videos in the Event library under "Macintosh HD".
Also, I noticed that with iMovie 09 you can store both events and projects on the hard drive. How do you move the projects to the hard drive? Anyone know if there is there an update for iMovie coming out soon?
    Thanks

this may help, I've tried it but haven't checked my screen saver to see if it can find all the photos

    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • IPhotos Movies won't load after iPhoto Library moved to external harddrive

I recently moved my iPhoto library to an external harddrive (as it was getting too large). Since then, whenever I try select iPhoto Movies in iMovie my iMac freezes up. Not sure whether this is because:
    - iMovie cannot find the moved library, or...
    - iMovie is trying to reload hundreds of movie clips and freezing in the process
Is there a way to fix this, please?

  • IPhoto Library moved?

    Hello,
I think I've lost all my photos. I have iPhoto 08, and was trying to make photos available to all users of the iMac. I moved the iPhoto Library into the Shared users folder. Things weren't working and I moved the library back into my personal pictures folder, now my photos seem to be gone. Before I moved the folder initially, I "show package contents"ed the iPhoto Library, and did this again after I returned the folder. The package contents seem to have changed, I'm pretty sure there are missing folders now.
I think they are lost forever, is there any way to recover them?
    Thanks for listening

Thanks for taking the time TD,
I don't remember touching anything inside the package.
However I forgot that I did try to duplicate the Library initially. This was taking longer than I expected and so I cancelled the duplication.
I now have 2 iPhoto Libraries.
    One in Macintosh HD/Users/username/
That one has the following folders:
    Auto Import
    Contents
There are 10 other files in the package. I seem to remember on first look having 2? additional folders inside, that looked like they stored the photos.
    The other library is in
    Macintosh HD/Users/username/Pictures
The only folder in that package is "Contents". There are 2 other files in the package.

  • Managing a growing library

I've searched for the answer to my question with no luck, so here goes.
I've got a growing iTunes library, and when I get a new 80gig video iPod in the next week or so, it's only going to get worse. I want to move my iTunes library from my Powerbook to an attached 400gig external Seagate drive attached by USB 2.0.
    Two related questions:
    1. How do I go about doing this?
    2. How do I then make iTunes on my Powerbook automatically link up to the library on the external drive when iTunes launches or when the iPod is connected for synching?
    Thanks for your input.

  • IPhoto Library moved to External Hard Drive and need help moving library

Hi - Recently I had my hard drive replaced. I purchased Disk Warrior and moved all files to my external hard drive. Now that my hard drive has been replaced, I'm having trouble moving all my photos back to iPhoto. Nearly all of my 8K+ photos are blurry after I import and enlarge. The ones that are fine have dimensions of or more than 1K x 1K. The digital photos that I moved and are blurry when enlarged are 340x360 (hundreds range). How can I correct?
    Thanks so much in advance.
    Audra

I think I might need to back up ---- So I had a failing hard drive, went to Apple and purchased Disk Warrior. Installed Disk Warrior and tried to recover everything from my hard drive. Then all that was recovered was supposedly moved to my external hard drive. I have now received my computer back with the new hard drive. I plug in my external hard drive and have been trying to move all my images from the external hard drive to iphoto. In both places (external HD and when the photos are imported), the image is at the lower dimensions.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Iphoto Library moved to Time cpsule but wont let me select. Help?

I have found that my HD is almost full and I have over 14k photos in my library. I copied the library to my TC wireless ( took overnight) and now Iphoto will not allow me to select from new location on my TC.Any ideas how to wirelessly do this or is it futile with a wireless TC, and I need to be wired to it?
Kind of thought the wireless part was the sell on being able to store things with multiple computers being able to grab data from it in the house.
    Thanks
    LPM

Ya, I would like to edit and organize as well however if i do not need them, i can just leave them in my TC. The problem is that when I open i photo and hold the (Alt button) i go to select the file in my TC and it is grayed out. it wont let me?
I have no problem starting a new library on my HD or even on my other wired External drive ( Almost full though)
Just a ton of pics and videos.

  • IPhoto library moved to Time Machine now missing

So I needed to beckup my HD and re-install Mac OSX, so I deleted my Time Machine file, and used the HD on it as a backup for files...everything.
Now I re-installed MAC OSX and my iPhoto library is nowhere to be found!!! Where did it go? I am really freaking out here, panicked, I NEED THAT LIBRARY!!!

Apparently it (the iPhoto library file) was hiding. It was ducked inside another Photos folder, and to further confuse matters, the newer, more recent file was actually smaller in size than the older iPhoto file (from iLife '06 I think).

  • IPhoto library moved, missing pictures

Yesterday I was looking for my iPhoto library and clicked on the backup which was last updated March. As it is on external hard drive, now when I open up my iPhoto it goes to those pictures, without the pictures from the last 9 months.
Everytime I look for them, it links me to the old library.
Any way to find and reinstall the current library, as I can't find it?

Thank you, this is exactly the problem.
It seems that I had two iPhoto libraries named 'IPhoto library' on each drive and when I clicked on the external drive it went to the old drive.
Thank you for the help, as now I can run two separate libraries.

  • Harddisk to small , using referenced library, moving files to bigger disk

    Hi !
I am using aperture for referencing files, what problems can be expected if the harddrive will be to small and i have to move all files to a bigger disk ?
i am sure to have the new harddisk named exactly as the old one , does aperture will find all my data ?

One way to deal with this issue id simply to relocate the Master files. Copy them to the new drive, In Aperture choose File> Manage referenced files. If the reconnect options are not readily available , click the show reconnect options button. Navigate to the new location and click. Click the reconnect all buttom. Click done. iView Media Pro will find the files if you move them to another drive and rename it the same name as where they came from, but I haven't tried this with Aperture and I don't believe it's documented because it's so easy to actually move the masters and reconnect. You can also choose to have Masters on several different drives if your images out grow your original location. By choosing manage referenced images, you can locate where each image is if you have the need.
