GRRR!   How to stop itunes from opening when plugging in touch??

the option "open itunes when the ipod this connected" is grayed out, on the Summary screen, in itunes. I've googled and others have had this same issue with NO ANSWER.
EDIT: s c r e w it. I got took ituneshelper out of startup, using msconfig. it shouldn't require these kinds of workarounds!

Image Capture only has an import into option.  There is no option to select what happens when a specific device is plugged into the computer.
The settings in Image Capture are specific for each of your iPhone, iPads, cameras.
Plug in each of your iOS devices. Select it in the devices list.
The set "Connecting this iPhone/iPad/Camera   opens" and set it to "No application".

how to stop iphone from autoplaying when connected to your car audio USB ?

You need to remove the association that Windows has with that particular file type. To do that, you need to open Windows Explorer. From there, click on Tools, then Folder options. Click on the tab that is named file types. You then need to find the extension for the photos that appear in the iPhone, then click that registered file type. Once you do that, there is a section to select the program to open that file type with. You can click on the change button, and that will allow you to change the program that it opens with, or restore the default. There is also a box that can be checked to always use the selected program. If you unselect it, it will prompt you next time on what program to use.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to stop iTunes from launching when iPhone is connected?

I have the "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods" checked in my Windows version if iTunes. But when I try to charge my iPhone, it still comes up. Is there any way to disable this. Windows also detects a camera device. I do all my iPhone stuff at home on my Mac, but at work I have a PC and I want to be able to charge my phone using the USB cable. But I don't want iTunes to launch or the PC to detect the camera device. Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks

    SteveFLHTCI:
Here's what I did using Windows Vista Home Premium. First, when I connected my iPhone, an AutoPlay dialog box popped up asking me what I wanted to do. Towards the bottom, there was some blue text that stated "Set AutoPlay defaults in Control Panel" and I clicked on it. When the Control Panel AutoPlay applet opened up, I scrolled down towards the bottom and found a list of devices which included "Apple iPhone." From there, I selected "Take No Action" from the drop-down list and have lived happily ever after.
    Hope that helped. Good luck.

  • How to Stop Quicktime from Opening when Downloading a Song?

I'm trying to download a song from an artists website. When I click on the song, a new window opens and quicktime starts to buffer the song for playback. This happens with both IE and Firefox.
How do I disable this? My laptop doesn't do this, but my main desktop is.

Why not just right-click and save the linked file to your computer?
Open the .mp3 with any app you choose.
You can disable the QuickTime plug-in from playing .mp3 files in a browser window by opening the QT Control Panel/Advanced and click the MIME Settings button. Remove the check mark for the .mp3 format and restart your browser for this change to take effect.

How do I stop Iphoto from opening when I plug in my Iphone?

Having the preference in iPhoto makes perfect sense to me.  After all, iPhoto is the application that opens.  You would expect that is where you should provide some guidance not to open.
What puzzles me much more is why you would post this comment more than 18 months after wjosten answered the original question.

  • How do I stop mail from opening when I launch safari?

Can someone please let me know if there is a way to stop mail from opening when I launch safari.
    Thanks

You are really confused. There are several things I'd recommend, first is becoming more familiar with your computer by visiting (and bookmarking)
    Mac 101
    Find Out How Video tutorials
    Switch 101
Next, you have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support when you buy any new Mac. You will find the phone number in your manual or you can also click the AppleCare Contact Info if you cannot find it. However I would STRONGLY recommend carefully reading your manual. The AppleCare people will be able to help you sort out what you have done. You can also visit and Apple Store and speak to a Genius for free, just make an appointment.

How to stop iPhoto from opening each time I add a photo using Yosemite

    Add image to iPhoto Library
From where.  I don't think you can keep it mininmized when importing because if it runs into a duplicate it will present a warning window for you to make a decision in. Therefore, it will always be open when importing.
You can send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

  • How to stop QT from opening my browser when I play an .mov ?

How do I stop QT from opening my IE6 and sending me to the ULR associated with the .mov? It is getting obnoxious, since file that I want to watch opens about three different browser windows... those open several more.

I hope there is some other solution as that seems like a horrble feature. Perhaps there should be a button to hid cloud content or to only play local content.
Who really wants to make local playlists all the time?

  • How do I prevent iTunes from opening when I pug in my iPod?

How do i prevent tunes from opening when i plug in my ipod?

This will occur when there are photos and/or videos in the Camera Roll, which should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
Depending on the iPhoto version you are running, this can be done via iPhoto preferences > connected camera opens > select no application.

  • How can I keep iTunes from opening when I insert a CD?

I have gone through the preferences again and again, and I can't find a way to keep iTunes from opening whenever I insert a CD. iTunes is not my preferred player/encoder, and I don't want it to open unless I tell it to.
Case in point, I'm converting many CDs to mp3, using an application that gives me the filename format I want (iTunes isn't that flexible enough to do that). It is annoying for iTunes to keep butting in, every time I insert a CD!
    Thanks for any advice.
    L.

When you first insert a CD your Mac comes up with a box saying
"You have inserted a CD" (duuh, Apple...)
Then you choose from a pop-up menu that offers "Open in Finder", "Open in iTunes", etc
At some point you (or someone) has chosen "Open in iTunes" then checked the little box that says "Make this the default from now on".
If you go into System Prefs (as already mentioned) you have a choice to reset what you want to do with a blank CD.

  • ITunes 8 - Win: STOP iTunes from launching when I connect iPhone???

    Hello,
I have searched around a lot and have seen various responses to this question, but cannot seem to find a definitive way to stop iTunes from launching every time I connect my iPhone 3G.
If this is possible, can someone please provide specific instructions on how to do this?
    Windows Vista - iPhone 3G - iTunes 8
    Thank you!

    Google is your friend, Chad.
Found this link: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?p=513358 with some info excerpted below.
    "+However, there is a workaround solution:+
+Allowing auto-syncing for all devices in Preferences, and then turning automatic syncing off for the device in Summary, corrects the problem and prevents iTunes from auto-launching when the device is connected.+"
It may be Mac specific, but maybe not. Try it out. If not, continue to Google for "Disable iTunes Auto Launch (or auto start).

  • How to stop iTunes from looking in old media folder location?

Several years ago, I moved my iTunes media onto an external drive attached to my Airport Extreme, because I was  running out of room on the internal drive.
I had all the usual problems with iTunes looking on the internal drive, but it mostly worked okay, as long as I didn't mind only being able to access my music at home.
A few months ago, I got a 2TB internal drive, and told iTunes to use the default media folder location on the internal drive again. I also check to keep iTunes media folder organized, and to copy files to the iTunes media folder when adding them to the library. I had already manually copied the folder structure over from the external drive.
I noticed that when I would start iTunes, I would see the activity light on the external drive, and it would be mounted on my Desktop. I checked, and the location for the media folder was still correct in preferences. I checked a file or two and (this seems to be gone in iTunes 12.1) it was still showing the file location on the other drive.
I tried to manually "cut the cord" by renaming the folder on the external drive, but iTunes was cleverer than that.
What do I need to do to stop iTunes from looking for files in the old location? I'd like to reclaim that space, but I'm afraid to remove anything over there, in case iTunes has been putting things over there instead of the new, correct location.
    This is a MacBook Pro 8,2 i7, with 10.10.3 and iTunes 12.1.x.
    Thanks,
    Sean

Manually moving files yourself and telling iTunes where to store media in preferences does not do what oh so many people who come here with issues think it does. Changing iTunes' media storage preferences only tells iTunes where to store new media.  iTunes still looks for old media where it last saw it, namely on your external drive.  You have to let iTunes do the relocating of the old media files by consolidating to the internal drive.  It will cheerfully ignore any changes you do in Finder yourself.

  • How to stop iTunes from adding songs to library automatically???

I love iTunes and almost everything about it. Pretty much the one and only complaint with it is that every time I download a music file (not to my music folder), iTunes can be completely shut down, but starts up and adds the file to my library. I download a LOT of random files that I listen to once and delete immediately, or I will download music to one folder and move it to my music folder at a later date, so having iTunes automatically adding all of these files to the library on its own free will is going to force me to uninstall it. Is there any way to stop iTunes from doing this?????? Even if it were to just add the files only if I played them in iTunes vs any file I add my my computer?

I think you aked this before and didn't get an answer. I don't really know, but here goes.
Any thing iTunes plays it adds to the library and I guess that iTunes is set as your default player for the type of file you are downloading.
You don't say exactly what you are doing but you are using another program to download music files. I am guessing that somewhere in the Options or Settings of the program you are using there is a setting to play after downloading, maybe you can turn that off?

  • How can I stop Itunes from opening by itself?

Itunes keep opening by itself and it's getting pretty irritating at this point. I haven't purposefully gone into it in days, but it keeps popping up and starting to play music anyway. I quit it every time, but then, sooner or later, the same thing happens again.
I've done some searching to see if I could find any solutions, but the suggestions I've found haven't done anything. For one, I took "Itunes Helper" off of my "Login Items" under my account, but that didn't do any good. I also checked to see if I have any Itunes widgets running on the dashboard and I don't. I even disabled the Itunes widget. I've read that other programs could be opening it, but I don't have any new programs on my computer, so if this wasn't occurring before because of something else, I don't know why it would be now.
This is kind of driving me insane, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Pure guesswork, but when I had problems with iTunes launching again and again, the reason were my external speakers. I simply had to unplug the speakers  from the line-out socket, and iTunes stopped launching on its own.
