"GRUB HARD DISK ERROR" possibly after update

Hi!
I rebooted my com to a GRUB HARD DISK ERROR after fiddling with wine and updating through pacman. Even the grub menu isn't shown... it just stuns there. Previously, I killed X server a few times using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace... i suspect maybe pacman was still updating when i did that or sth.
However, the files on the disk are still accessible, when i booted with knoppix. Not really sure what caused this. Any ideas greatly appreciated...

Managed to get in fine with super grub boot disc. Any idea how i should proceed? Reinstall grub or sth?
My pacman log shows that there had been a successful kernel update and...

In general, if you install a system in a normal way, the installer should take care of this for you. Probably you didn't choose to install grub in the MBR? (I don't see any other reason why you would encounter this situation, but if you've installed it in another way, please inform us in this thread)
At this point grub boots as bootmanager, but isn't able to start the linux installation. Well, look at it positive: you've made progress.
Can you issue:
grub-install --root-directory=/boot /dev/cciss/c0d0

Window - No Disk error message after update to iTunes 7.1

I updated to iTunes 7.1. After turning on iTunes for the first time after the download, I get a box that says "Updating iTunes Library". During this process, I get the dreaded error message: "Windows - No Disk" I clicked on it a few times and it went away. Then it came back and no amount of clicking would make it go away. At this point, iTunes no longer responds. I have gone thru this process now about 5 times.
What is the fix?
Does Apple answer this issue anywhere or is it left to its customers to speculate about this stuff?

HP Pavilion g4 2131tx, Hard Disk Error after Blue Screen of Death

Hello! I do not know what section shoud i post this problem, I apologize for it.
So my laptop is freezing for a days after BSOD. When I leave my laptop overnight for downloading torrents, I always receive the message "Windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown." when i woke up.
I already disabled all non-microsoft services, start up items and yet the desktop is still freezing right after the welcome screen but the welcome screen does not load too long.
The desktop freeze for more than a minute then it will go back to normal again until my laptop went to BSOD
and received this error from UEFI "Hard Disk Error." after restarting.
I ran the Hardware Diagnostic Test and I got the result:
Failure ID: RW042K-6MT6RP-MFPX1F-61BK03
Product ID: 65H69PA#UUF
I tried cleaning up registry and defragmenting disk and still no luck.
* My laptop is HP Pavilion g4 2131tx and still under warranty until June 2014.
* I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Service Pack 1
* My RAM is 4gb with a processor of Intel Core i7
* My AV is microsoft security essentials
* I am using Advanced SystemCare for cleaning up registry and defragmenting.
I was wondering if I could change my hard disk while it's still under warranty.

See Page 39. It can take any 2.5 inch wide 9mm thick laptop SATA hard drive. They are industry standard, interchangeable.

This is a nice compromise with size, speed and expense. You could install an SSD for maximum speed. Post back if you need help with software or anything else.

SMART Hard Disk Error after replacing HD

I SOOO hope that someboidy is able to help me.
I am NOT a novice but I am stumped.
I replaced the HD with the same model HD that the COMPAQ CQ58 came with because the old HD was shot - how that happend eludes me.
Anyhoo, after screwing a new HD in I wanted to put OS on it but I get the following error right after pushing gthe power button on:

I tried the LINK, it doesn't exist.
I also went to the Boot Options in BIOS in order to start from a USB stick and put the USB HD in first place.
When I reboot it does not recognise any USB stick. I tried Windows 8 and UBUNTU which ususally works on all machines I recoverd so far.
No whatsoever luck.
As I mentioned before:
I am stumped.
I have no recovery CDs and can't make one since I don't run Win8 on any of my PCs.
So, any suggestions????

Plug the usb flashdrive into one of the notebooks's usb ports Press the power button and then immediately tap the Esc key to invoke the startup menu. Choose F9 (boot opions) instead of F10 (BIOS setup) in the startup menu and then select the usb flashdrive.

how to solve error 1669
STEP 1: Delete iTunes from your computer. Also make sure you remove the cache(open itunes then press edit wich is located on the tool bar and then click on preferences and then go to advanced and click on reset warrnings and reset cache).
then go to your hard disk and go to program files and delete folder named itunes.
Note: If you have any libraries or locally cached data that you want to keep, temporarily store them somewhere until you get the situation fixed.
STEP 2: Once it is completely deleted, download iTunes 11.1 from Apple servers.
STEP 3: Download iTunes 11.1 from here.
STEP 4: Now connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to computer.
STEP 5: Click “restore”, it should present you with a notification saying a new version is available.

SMART Hard Disk Error - Replace Hard Drive?

A couple of days ago I recieved an error when I started my computer (HP Pavilion dv6-6071eo), saying "SMART Hard Disk Error" followed by a message telling me that the SMART hard disk check has detected and imminent failure. It told me to backup my files and then press F2 and run a hard disk test. On the last row it displayed "Hard Disk 1 (301)". I tried to run the hard disk test, which failed instantly. I also ran the BIOS hard disk test. It passed the short test without problems and then stopped rather shortly after the long test started with the error "Hard Disk 1 Full 305". My computer has also been running slowly over the last week. From what I've read so far it seems I have to replace my Hard Drive. Is this correct? If yes, would this be a suitable (functional) replacement: http://www.dustinhome.se/product/5010151237/western-digital-black-2-5-320gb-7200rpm-sata-300-16mb/#intcmp=searchProvider_dacsa. Also, would it be worth it (and possible) upgrading to an SSD for noise and heat reduction, which is a problem with this laptop (and several other simular laptops from HP) compared to other laptops. Have you checked to see if there is any free space left on the hard drive? A full hard drive will make the system run very slowly and it can also keep the system from working properly if it is full enough. The fact that you pass the short test means there is nothing major mechanically wrong with the drive. Just right click on the icon for the main drive likely C:\ in "Computer: and select "properties". If the drive is not actually full then I suggest replacing it. Yes, if you can afford an SSD there is no question that is the way to go. There is nothing not good about an ssd other than an occasional struggle to install it. I have been using ssds for a while and I have never had the installation problems we often see reported here but don't be dissuaded, we are here to help .

My laptop was toooooo slow and looks like some process was running
in the background especially lots of scvhost.exe. Tried some
malware removal and couldn't resolve it.
Now I'm not able to login to my system at all.
I have tried all possible options
a. Tried to run scandisk
b. Tried to start OS in safemode prompt(It stops at classpnp.sys)
c. Tried to start OS in safemode with netword
d. Command prompt
e. Tried to execute chkdsk, scandsk etc etc.
None of the options able to solve the problem. It keeps on giving me a message"Smart hard disk error" and sometimes it runs the scandisk and it keeps on gives me a message for each segment "File record segment 12345 is unreadable"
Don't know what to do. After reading many posts in the net, suggestions were to replace the hard drive I am worried about it.
It is just 1 year and 2 months I bought the laptop and now I dont have warranty as well. Dont know what to do.
Is there any way I can resolve my hard drive?

I have seen several people report Recovery hanging and not completing when the hdd is smaller than the original. Years ago when hdds were 20-40gb I could understand the problem with running Recovery from disks on a 20gb if the machine came with a 40gb_but I would have thought /hoped that HP would have eliminated that issue with todays huge hdds.From several posts here in the forum, the problem has not gone away.
If you install Linux now booting from Recovery Disks will wipe out Linux,so if you hope to dual-boot it will have to be reinstalled after recovering windows 7.

Mini 200-4200 - Hard Disk Error

I have: HP Mini 200-4200, pr nr B3R47EA#ABU, System Board ID 338D, Win 7 (factory installed) ...what else.
I´m not very computer literate, first of all. And second, I´m in Nicaragua on a gap year - little resources around.
The Mini is under warranty, I bought it in Oct 2012, London, it´s been gradually slowing down, which I contributed to having maybe too much stuff on it.. Until, something happend few days ago. After turning on and thinking for few seconds, it makes a little "bing", and showes "Hard Disk Error", Please rund the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.
When I do as it says, in a second (literally, with no thinking time), comes up:
Primary Hard Disk Self Test
Quick Test
Hard isk 1 Quick (303)
Primary Hard Disk Self Test
Full test
Hard disk 1 Full (305)
SMART check to Exit Testing
Hard Disk SMART Passed
So I press the Esc to exit and then comes up:
"Hard Disk Test" Failed.
Then I did the F10 tapping in the beginning (read in one advice post) to get to Bios:
I went to Diagnostics and pressed Primary Hard Disk Self Test. It doesn´t seem to do the test because in the same second as I press Enter, box comes with "Hard Disk 1 Quick (303)" , "ok", ...in the background I can see the Short Test Executing 0% Complete, Estimated time unknown...but I think it doesn´t do it at all. When I press the ok, nothing happens.
I´m not sure what to do. Or where is my nearest HP representative. Is there on in Managua? (or Esteli would be closer).
AND - is there a possibility to salvage any files?
Not sure if this is of any importance, when I go to the Diagnostics Log, the numbers that are listed there are 0303, 03F1, 0305. Repeating.
Please help to save my little Mini, it has been a good companion.

Thanks for the reply - I will call the local HP support (Nicaragua) tomorrow. And will post if stuff gets solved.
However - HOW CAN I SALVAGE THE INFO?
I´ve heard that warranty doesn´t cover that. But then again, if I ask a computer repairs place to do it, I risk the warranty? I´m not sure if HP allows to do it (in Lenovo the hard disk can be removed without trouble... I´m told...)
I also have additional Accidental Damage Protect Service w Pickup and Return...which I hastily did before travelling...and now I can´t remember what it covers besided "spilling the odd coffee cup" ....I can´t find any other terms and conditions other than the States version....
Any ideas how I can salvage the info?

Can't boot into bios due to SMART Hard Disk Error

My hard drive failed and now im getting constant pop ups to replace it
I'm thinking about transfering windows to an external drive until I can replace the internal one but I need access to the bios to set the boot priorty options anytime I use f10 to boot into the bios it's like it's skipped over and gives me the smart hard disk error screen where my only options are to boot into windows or run diagnostics.
I tried running diagnostics but each test resulted in an instant failure.

Zen vsision M - hard disk error

MP3 got slightly wet and after working for a while stopped working. Have tried Clenup, Farmat all and even uploading the firmware again - which failed. All I get is hard disk error.
Is there anything else I can try please as it was an expensi've player and my favourite to date.

Water & electronics do not mix. How did you dry out the player after the water incident? Chances are the hardri've may have rusted . You will not be able to reload firmware or anything for that matter

Recurring Hard Disk Error - New Hard Disk

I've been in contact with HP about a recurring problem with my Pavillion g6 - it periodically has blue screen errors and then won't turn on, displaying a "hard disk error". It then refuses to boot up for anywhere between a few minutes to a few days. I sent it in for a repair, it came back with a new display bezel (???). More hard disk errors. I called in and they shipped out a new hard drive for me.
Today I installed the new hard drive. When I tried to boot it up for the first time, I was greeted with yet another hard disk error. I ran a test, it claimed that the hard disk was fine (it used to say that before sometimes too, which is probably why they didn't replace it initially). Powered down, and turned it on again - it started up fine.
Now it is working, but I don't feel any better about it since it had that initial error. Is it normal for a new hard disk to fail right after being hooked up? It was obviously installed fine, as I am typing this post on a fully functioning laptop now. I am tired of living out of a portable drive (it is a lot like living out of a suitcase), so I would appreciate some assurance that the laptop isn't just going to crash again, but it seems to me that the new hard disk isn't going to be my solution.
I have an extended warranty - but I don't have the luxury of time when it comes to mailing it in, as I am a full-time student and use online courseware every day.

It is obviously not normal to get an error on a new hard drive. Equally obviously, it is not the drive itself. I wish I could calm your fears but I suspect you have some sort of an intermittent connectivity problem with the SATA port on the motherboard. All you can do is keep using it and see if the problem comes back. I might go in and triple check all the screws and connections, but that is just OCD, really.

Hp Pavilion dv4 Notebook Hard Disk error

Everytime I attempt to boot up my laptop, I am greeted with: "Hard Disk Error, Please run the Hark Disk Test in System Diagnostics, Hard Disk 1 (3F1)" Upon running the Hard Disk test, Quick test returns "Hard Disk 1 Fault", and Full test returns Hard Disk 1 Fault, SMART check returns as passed. What happened? Do I need to buy a new laptop?
Edit: After pressing escape to exit, up at the top left it says: Hard Disk Test Failed, Gard Disk 1 Quick (303), Hard Disk 1 Full (305)

No you just need to replace the hard drive. Can we have the full model number? A good hard drive is going to cost $75 or so and a super fast solid state drive will be maybe $150+. You might still be able to migrate/clone data. You might also look at the C:\ drive in My Computer or This PC and see how full it is. If you delete some stuff off it might take away the error message although doubtful.

Hard Disk Error 305

Hello everyone and thank you for reading this.
So I own an HP Pavillion DV6( I believe its a dv6 6145dx) and it is NOT starting up. Windows 7 Home Edition(I believe) 64 bit.
What I mean is that it doesnt get pass the Windows loading screen after I hit "start up windows normally".
So I tried to figure out what the error was and I went into the bios and did a Hard Disk test. When I first did this it ended on the short test and said Hard Disk is Full Error 305.
I left it like that for a while(maybe 3 weeks) before I finally got around to fixing it.
To fix it I got Linux onto a disc (Ubuntu to be exact) and started my computer up through the OS on the disc. I then cleared and deleted some files (music,old games) that I didnt need anymore in hopes that it would fix the error.
So I tried to boot it up again and it got the same problem as before, it couldnt get past the Windows loading screen.
I then went back into the bios and did the Hard Disk scan again. This time it got past the short test but did NOT pass the long test. The error message I got was Hard Disk Error 305.
Ive done a bit of searching(how I found this site actually) and I cant find a fix. Is my hard drive toast? Is there any easy fix? Should I reinstall Windows?
