GS30 Shadow and Gaming Dock internals (video)

GS30 Shadow and Gaming Dock internals
The GS30 Shadow is a light, slim machine with a high-powered, high-voltage Intel Core i7 CPU and the usual stuff you find in an MSI Gaming notebook. One thing it does lack though, is a dedicated graphics card, instead it comes with a PCI-E 3.0 x16 connector and a sizeable dock, the Gaming Dock, in which you’ll be able to fit a full desktop graphics card and a few other goodies.
To tell you more about the GS30 Shadow and the Gaming Dock, we’ve created a little video to walk you through the combo and what you can expect hardware-wise.
The video:

Docking is a brilliant idea, but my boyfriend is gamer and an engineer, he is trying to look for independent laptop for its high performance. Does anyone know where can I find independent one from docking?

  • PC Gamer published one review for MSI GS30 2M shadow with gaming dock

MSI’s GS30, with its Gaming Dock, is the first to actually deliver on the promise of using a normal desktop graphics card bolstering a thin ‘n’ light, non-gaming notebook.—Dave James
    Highlights:
1.You can switch between thin ‘n’ light laptop to gaming desktop in a trice
2.The dock’s connection to the notebook is a full x16 lane PCIe 3.0 socket.
3.It’s a beefy quad-core, octo-thread processor of Intel Haswell ilk running between 2.8GHz and 3.5GHz
4.There’s also a huge 16GB of DDR3 memory inside that little package too
5.With the CPU and Iris Pro graphics it’s a powerful little thing in its own right.

GS30 Shadow - The Gaming Dock
The GS30 Shadow was just launched at CES, and already there are questions going around, mainly related to the Gaming Dock. For those of you still unfamiliar with the GS30 Shadow, it's a slim 13.3” notebook with a high-end Core i7 CPU with Iris Pro graphics, Super RAID with a bunch of SSDs – with no real gaming capabilities of its own.
The Gaming Dock though, changes all this. You simply dock the notebook into it and through magic (a PCI-E 3.0 x16 connector), you can hook up any desktop graphics to your GS30. The dock holds said PCI-E connector, a bunch of USB ports, a Killer LAN port, audio jacks, a 3.5” HDD as well as speakers in the front panel. The idea is that you have everything plugged in at home (including external monitor(s), keyboard and mouse) and simply pop in the GS30 when you get back home from work or school.
Obviously there are technical limitations as well, that we want to highlight. You can't use the built-in monitor on the GS30, because all PCI-E signals are being sent to the gaming dock when plugged in. This also extends to the keyboard, touchpad and speakers, meaning you must have these separately on your desk. It's sort of the point of the Gaming Dock, using the keyboard on top of the dock would most likely be uncomfortable, but we still want to make it clear.
All in all, we're excited to have launched the GS30 Shadow with it's full-bandwidth Gaming Dock, as it fuses full-powered desktop graphics where you want it (at home) with a properly mobile notebook for the road.

Now the official youtube channel is offering an introducing video
    let's check it out!

  • GS30+Gaming Dock introduced by Le Parisien (France)

    Just saw this.
GS30 + Gaming Dock introduced by the french media, "Le Parisien".
    Quates translated in English
"To experience the latest PC, it's better to have a powerful computer, a big machine placed on your desk. But it's impossible to carry around with! Luckily, there are more and more small portable PCs which are powerful and light weighted launched by ASUS, Acer or Alienware who recently just introduced its Alienware 13. Interestingly, the brand MSI propose the GS30, a laptop with a <<dock>>, a square dock  where you may put the GS30 on top. This dock reserves a place for 3D graphic cards (extra purchase required). As a result, you may use the laptop itself away from home or multiplying its power by installing the laptop onto the dock and play games at home."

  • No video using S-VIdeo cable and Universal Dock

We tried using our Universal dock and my husband's Video iPod to view iTunes downloaded shows on our TV for the first time, and despite trying two different S-Video cables, we weren't able to get video (sound worked). Of course the warranty was up three weeks ago.
Any suggestions? Is it worth buying the special Apple video cable?

I have a new Macbookbook, about 2 months old, and at times running video, the fans starts and does not stop. how do you get it to stop. Also i am thinking once the video is done  the fan should be slowing down and getting quiet on its own.

Your fan(s) will run at high speed (i.e., loudly) while video is playing, and you can't get around that.
If your fans are not slowing down within 2-4 minutes after CPU- and/or GPU-intensive usage ends, and the application that was showing the video is still running, Quit that application. (In fact, if you're accustomed to Windows, you may not realize that simply closing a Mac application's window does not quit the application. You still need to use the Quit command in the application-name menu. There will always be a bright dot beside or below the application icon in your Dock for each application that is open.) Quit the ones you aren't using, and see whether that allows the fans to slow down without restarting the machine. If that doesn't do the trick, reset the SMC:

  • My complaints and Questions MP4 M4V video files and other complaints

My complaints and Questions MP4 M4V video files and other complaints
I have been scratching my head as to how to fix my problem and I found some answers and some questions along the way. First of all, I have a video that should be correctly formatted for my iPod. Its specs are:
    Kind: MPEG-4 video file
    Size: 19.4 MB
    Bit Rate: 125 kbps
    Date Modified: 8/18/2009 2:15 PM
    Play Count: 1
    Last played: 8/21/2009 12:25 PM
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Channels: Stereo
    Total Bit Rate: 360 kbps
    Video Dimensions: 352x264
    Video Codec: H.264
    F:\File\AnotherFile\A3rdFile\TheMovieFileInQuestion.mp4
Wow that was a chore. Apple! Let us drag copy and paste our info tabs information so we don’t have to type all this stuff when we are having trouble. **another problem and suggestion** right there.
Ok, back to the problem of the forum.
From what I can see from http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/specs.html this file falls in line of everything required in order to be able to play on my iPod. It plays in iTunes fine but will NOT sync with my iPod. I get an annoying message that states, “Some of the Songs and videos in your iTunes library, including “BlaBlaBlaiPondFixYourJunkBlaBlaBla”, were not copied to the iPod “My iPod” because they cannot be played on this iPod.” Why oh why can iTunes play this video file but my iPod cant. Especially when the specs on Apple’s website say it can.
So that was bugging me for a LONG time until I found my “Create iPod or iPhone version” option in the “Advanced” heading. Thank goodness this made my files playable on my iPod. Extremely LONG wait though. I know that other programs convert it in ½ the time. But times not to important as long as it gets done, (would be very convenient if it was faster though **Problem and suggestion**)
Ok, now that I have used the “Create iPod or iPhone version” option it has slowly but surly converted my video. Ok, here is my main problem, the new file which is the result of the conversions information is as follows:
    Kind: MPEG-4 video file
    Size: 35.4 MB
    Bit Rate: 125 kbps
    Date Modified: 8/18/2009 2:15 PM
    Play Count: 1
    Last played: 8/21/2009 1:28 PM
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Channels: Stereo
    Total Bit Rate: 658 kbps
    Video Dimensions: 352x264
    Video Codec: H.264
    C:\File\WhyIsThisNewFileInMyMusicFolder\TheMovieFileInQuestion.m4v
So basically it has made my file bigger *not a bonus in my book* greatly increased my Bit Rate *another interesting feature*, and I think the biggest change it has changed it from an .mp4 to an m4v.
Why does it need to be an .m4v I could have sworn some of my videos were or are in mp4 which shouldn’t matter anyway because I was under the impression that iPods could play mp4 files. So that’s my biggest complaint and question. Why can my 80GB classic iPod not play my MP4 files and why am I forced to convert them??
This conversion also creates 2 files in iTunes when I am done which is annoying because I have to go into my files info and look to see what file is the mp3 in order to remove it. Very annoying I can open my iPod options and see the files and some are faded (the ones it can not play) why can’t I remove them from that area.Suggestion Apple please make files that cannot be played on my iPod stand out some how for easier cleaning Suggestion. Thank you.
Speaking of cleaning iPods, when I moved my entire library to an external drive I was faced with a terrible problem. “This file could not be found, would you like to locate file”, I was faced with this annoying message at least 600 times. Now I am glad that iTunes has a little “!” mark to show dead links so that you do some minor cleaning, Good Job iTunes No compliant there. However iTunes has no way of selecting all the broken files for major cleaning (like in my case). Going through and deleting over 600 files 1 by 1 is extremely time consuming and annoying. **Suggestion Apple please add more cleaning features for organizing iTunes**.
Ok, speaking of organization now, another problem that appeared when converting my video files was that it put my new videos into the location where I have all my songs (my external hard drive) why can’t it put the new files in the locations of the original file? I have my computer highly organized and my original files were in that drive in that folder for a reason. If I could open my original file and skip the conversion, my iTunes would go to that specific folder to access the file which is fine. But now these new conversion files are elsewhere taking up space and disorganizing my computer. True I can go into the new location and move the files to where I want them (original location) but I don’t think I should have to hunt them down, copy, move, delete ect etc for all these files over and over. Very annoying, time consuming and should be unnecessary. **Suggestion Make file creation and location more customizable, and user friendly, your customers will love you for it**.
Well since I have gotten into Apples iTunes and iPod problems that I have had to face I might as well bring up one or two more problems and suggestions. About a month after purchasing my iPod a sibling bought one as well. His however is way more convenient then mine. I suppose he has a 5th gen. so here is my question: why does he have a search option and I don’t!!!! Why does he get more features every so often and I don’t?! Why can’t Apple write some software for us classic guys which got the iPods going! It’s very annoying when I have to spend more time looking for the song then I spend actually listening to it, when he can pull his up in like 3-6 seconds? I highly doubt the hardware between our iPods is that dissimilar and even if they are why cant software be written for us. **Suggestion treat all your customers good not just the newer ones, and make some more features for the classics like me and my iPod.” We will be grateful for it I promise.
Ok, I am almost done. Let me just recap my questions, I know my post is kind of lengthy.
#1. Why can’t my iPod play MP3 video files? And why do I have to convert to almost all the same settings except changing it from an mp4 to an m4v. according to Apples own site I should be able to play .m4v .mp4 and .mov files!! Note: remember iTunes plays them fine but my iPod will not.
#2. Would be much more convenient to be able to copy the information from the windows in iTunes so that problems and trouble shooting would be much easier. A little check on off options in iTunes advanced settings would be terrific.
#3. Why is the conversion so slow? Please speed it, you have the power. Convenience is the thing that sells products.
#4. Files that cannot be played on the current iPod need to be easier recognized for simpler cleaning.
#5. Also make an easier way to select all dead link files for faster cleaning, deleting, etc. This one is important.
#6. Make a user friendly way to change where my files are going to end up once I convert them for iPod more options and better customizable settings are need.
#7. One of the most important is ADD A SEARCH OPTION. I and we classics will LOVE Apple for it.
For you readers, I apologize for the long post, and any grammatical errors you might find throughout it. These are problems that I have faced with these programs and hardware and I wanted to make sure they got acknowledged and hopefully addressed. Any information about why I cannot play MP4 Video files on my iPod would be the best. If anything in my post gets answered that’s the one I want most. Will save me a lot of hassle.
Thank you all and I look forward to your suggestions and comments. All are welcome and appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Bond, James

Was playing with iTunes and thought of another suggestion! Let us play files in iTunes from an iPod! A friend or sibling should be able to plug his iPod into my computer open iTunes and play any of the files there. Many times I have wanted to show a movie clip or video to a friend, and I have the dock so I can do it on my T.V. but play it on their computer in their iTunes forget it. That would be a very nice feature as well so we can watch our movies at maximum size or listen to music on a better sound system, just another suggestion that would be nice. Thanks

  • IPhone & Universal Dock - No video out after resume from pause

OK - original 16GB iPhone, latest universal dock and Apple Composite cable, hooked to a 42" Sony LCD TV. iPhone is at latest revision.
Used to be that if I used the remote to pause a video, I could wander off, make a cup of coffee, and when I came back, even though the iPhone was locked, I could press play on the remote and carry on where I Ieft off. Recently though, when I try to resume from the paused state, I get sound but no video and I have to walk over to the docked iPhone, unlock it, and then I get video out.
I can only assume that this bug was introduced (or the previously working feature was removed) by a software update. Whatever the cause, it is a pain.
The cynic in me would assume that it is Apple's sneaky way of reducing the feature set to below the minimum expected so as to drive users to buy an Apple TV. The optimist in me assumes it is a bug and it CAN BE FIXED IN THE NEXT RELEASE!
    Anybody else experienced this issue?
    Message was edited by: TheFamousJames

I also believe this is a bug, but I found a workaround. I after starting the video you press the wake-up button, the iPhone screen goes off, but the video keeps playing. Now if you pause using the remote, you can also resume using the remote without having to unlock the iPhone.
The weirdest thing about this is that after doing it once, you can unlock you iPhone and be able to pause and resume as expected. As soon as you change the video (that is, you turn the video out off) the iPhone forgets what he just learned and doesn't resume from the remote again.
So as a rule I always turn the iPhone screen off after starting a video. So I'm able to use my remote nicely. I hope this works for you too... and that it gets corrected in the next SW version!

  • I want to get an iMac to learn Logic Pro primarily and gaming secondly

I am new to all this (computers, Logic Pro and video games) but I want to learn. Is an iMac a good computer to run Logic Pro (I am also considering Mac mini)? I am also wondering about the nvidia geforce gtx 780m with 4 gb dedicated ram. How many years down the road will this graphics card be good for. From what I hear pc gamers have to periodically be upgrading things like graphics cards on their computers to be able to play newer games in the future, but I don't have that option with say this graphics card on the 27 inch imac, so I guess my question is, for how long will this nvidia geforce gtx 780m with 4 gb dedicated ram be good for before it becomes obsolete, 3 years, 5 years ,maybe more or less I do not know. I was thinking about getting a Mac mini for the Logic Pro and getting a play station 4 for gaming or just getting thr iMac and use it for both Logic Pro and gaming and forget about the play station 4. I need some real help over here, so if anyone could please help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. P.S. I have also heard that the Mac mini is a good option for Logic Pro being that it has the integrated graphics card and Logic Pro is not a really graphic intensive app, so maybe I would be straight going the Mac mini and play station 4 route.

You are better off getting a dedicated gaming box for gaming than using a Mac for heavy gaming.
Unless you go with a top of the line iMac with just about all of the optional components, Macs do not make great heavy gaming machines. Plus, a gaming box is sooo much cheaper than a Mac for gaming.
For using Logic, I would just go for the 21 inch screen iMac and get it with the optional  full 16 GBs of RAM and optional i7 CPU and, if you can afford all of the options, get this iMac with the optional Fusion drive, too!
The combination SSD and hard drive in the fusion drive will help make up for the slower 5400 RPM drives that they are putting into only the 21 inch screen models.
With this configuration, this iMac would last you, at least, 5 years.

  • Dock + iPod Video Out

    Hi all,
can anyone tell me if while the ipod is docked, the video out on the ipod can be used to view photos/videos ?
    Thanks
    Chris

I'm working on a similar problem.
When I connect a dock connector with usb charger the a/v out still works.
But when I connect the dock connector from my cars interface (which takes control of the ipod) I lose the a/v output from the 1/8" jack and headphone.
I am considering removing pin 8 on the dock (Video) in the hopes this may work. But I am concerned it is a software issue where if an "accessory" like head unit interfaces take control of the ipod then it shuts off the a/v output.
I wish their was a menu setting for this as all I need is to split off the video signal.
    I'll post if I find a solution.

  • Does macbook pro of early 2011, macbook 17'' possess 3D vision and gaming ability?

Does macbook pro of early 2011, macbook 17'' possess 3D vision and gaming ability?

No 3D vision, but the top end 2.2+ 15" & 17" supports a pretty decent video card for 3D gaming, for a laptop, scores 30 on Cinebench. WOW will play on highest settings 50fps and better.
But still a Windows tower smokes anything Apple has and you can replace the video cards, so if your serious, you should go there or get a Playstation, better bang for the buck.

  • Rendering Drop Shadows and Text

You know... for a system that can play 16 video streams in HD and dynamically adjusts the playback quality to handle all of that to play in real time......
why does a drop shadow and crawling text require a render on 2 streams of SD video?
I'm editing plain NTSC 29.97 DV footage..... my sequence settings are the same as my clips... all footage plays fine and generates a green preview bar for when I start getting complicated..... but when i add a drop shadow....... no matter what.... no matter how many streams are on... (even if it's only one) red render required to play.
It just seems odd that it can handle so much more information than what a drop shadow seems to generate..... the same happens with scrolling or crawling text. Is there anyway to get this in a preview..... so i don't have to spend 4 minutes rendering something that might not even work the way I want it to in the first place?
