GS70 2QE (970m)- Any Fan control software?

I am looking for a Fan control utility that will work for the GS70 2QE, This is a brand new laptop of the latest generation.
I would like to turn the fan speed up manually during heavy computing loads to avoid the bouncing of the CPU clock due to thermal scaling. (Cools down, clocks up, gets hot, clocks down).
Thanks

Wondering how it worked? Can share with us?

I've just seen fan software for GT70 - no idea if it could work for a GS.

  • Fan Control Software

I am trying to install the new version of SMC Fancontrol on my Intel Santa Rosa MBP. When i try installing it tells me that there can be no other fan control software running. My question is how do I turn off the existing software, and/or what am I doing wrong. I want to be able to turn up the fans whenever I need to do model and image rendering.
    Thanks a lot.

It should do that automatically depending on how hot it gets.
If it doesn't do this run a hardware test to see if there are fan or sensor problems.
As for the SMC fancontrol problem, no clue, maybe email the developer.

  • Fan Controlling Software Issues with K8N-Neo4-F

    My mobo is a K8N Neo4-F 3.0.
    1. Is there anyway to control the Northbridge and System fan using Speedfan? I searched so far without any solutions.
    2. I tried MSI Corecenter for a while (the last version), and it triggers the alarms and atempts to shut down the system without any visible reason everytime the PC comes backs from hibernation. I have the latest BIOS and latest drivers on my PC. What could be wrong?

It could be the sensor is bad on the system fan or the header itself. Is it possible for the wire from the NBFAN1 to reach the CPUFAN1 and the wire from the CPUFAN1 to reach the NBFAN1?  That way we could test to see if it's the fan or MOBO header? I'm not sure this is possible, but it occurred to me as a test.  According to the manual, both headers have the same configuration and 12V feed. I think the amp specs are the same for both headers(someone that is better with electronics should speak up here). Make sure you have the CPU fan set to 100% or whatever as I'm not sure if the NB fan can or should be speed adjusted.
According to page 2-16 of your manual, it only mentions control of the CPUFAN1 header:
    Quote
    Fan Power Connectors: CPUFAN1 / SFAN1 / SFAN2 / NBFAN1
The CPUFAN1 (processor fan), SFAN1 (system fan 1), SFAN2 (system fan 2) and
NBFAN1 (NorthBridge Chipset fan) support system cooling fan with +12V. It supports
three-pin head connector. When connecting the wire to the connectors, always take
note that the red wire is the positive and should be connected to the +12V, the black
wire is Ground and should be connected to GND. If the mainboard has a System
Hardware Monitor chipset on-board, you must use a specially designed fan with
speed sensor to take advantage of the CPU fan control.
    MSI Reminds You...
    1. Always consult the vendors for proper CPU cooling fan.
    2. CPUFAN1 supports fan control. You can install Core Center utility
that will automatically control the CPU fan speed according to
    the actual CPU temperature.
    3. Please refer to the recommended CPU fans at AMD® official
    website.
But, In addition to finding out about this issue, I can't stress enough about getting a better PSU.

  • Fan Control Software for iMac G5

do you know any software that makes me able to control the fans of my imac. I want to change the speed of my fans.

You can control the fan speed to a certain extent by going to system prefs>energy saver>options>processor perfromance and selecting "reduced". This should slow your fan speed down, but I am not aware of any software program that will contriol your fans speed. It wouldn't be a good idea anyway to interfere with the settings the machine selects for itself, the iMac is very sensitive to heat and shouldn't have fan hacks.

  • PowerBook fan control software?

I know of this software for controlling MacBook and MBP fan speed:
    http://81.169.182.62/~eidac/software/page5/page5.html
but it is Intel specific. is there something similar for PowerBooks, specifically the second to last 17" model?

As far as I can tell, no, there isn't. I've searched and haven't found any.
Actually, if you keep your PB on a cooling platform.....I use this: http://roadtools.com/) whenever using it, your PB should virtually never overheat. I've been using Temperature Monitor: http://bresink.com/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html and, currently, Hardware Monitor: http://bresink.com/osx/HardwareMonitor.html for the past couple of years and have NEVER seen my PB go beyond 142 degrees F.
The left fan cuts in when the PB's temp reaches about 140 F and deactivates when the temp drops to around 130 F.
The right fan will activate only if the PB's temp reaches critically high levels, perhaps 160F, but it's never activated since my PB has never even come close to critical temp.

  • 27" hot at the top. FAN Control Software??

I've heard the fans on this thing go really high during startup. Is there any software I can download to have fun control over my fans in my 27"?

I like http://www.lobotomo.com/products/FanControl/index.html as it is more complicated than FanControl.

  • Battery and smc fan control

will running that software do anything that would kill your battery faster than if you didn't?
    thanks!

The design idles the fans normally at 2000 RPM which is sufficient. Fan software does nothing more than increase the idle speed of the fans. That simply means the fans won't increase in speed until the temperature sensors report a higher temperature than would have normally caused the fans to ramp up. For all intents and purposes all this does is keep the computer cooler during idle. Unless you keep your room temperature very high or do not allow proper air circulation, there's little need to use fan control software.
I have both a first and second generation MBP and neither computer requires any fan control software and they both run normally. I've had both for two years now.

  • GS70 2QE - Shift Profiles

    Hi,
Just got the GS70 Stealth Pro Red Edition and was wondering what profile are you guys running with? i basically want to have it as silent and quiet as possible when surfing the web, word docs etc but when running virtual machines to ramp up the power and fans but stilll try to keep it as silent and cool as possible. so my question really hinges aroud do you need to change SHIFT profile manually when working on more intesive cpu activities or can this be set at software level?
Also, anyone use any fan control utilities for manually setting fan speeds etc?
    Thanks

do you have the new gtx 970M in yours? or 870M? since my gs70 2PE is quiet when browsing, doing doc work and so and i use usal default profile but mine does not have shift profiles.

  • Custom Hardware Fan Control - problem if speed pin not connected?

    Hi There,
I am planing to install a hardware fan control (poti) to my MacPro 1.1 rear fan. (because I have a defective northbridge temperature sensor and the fan is running at maximum speed... so i thought of slowing it down with a fan control for the pci slots)
I read that the pinning of the Fan is: Gnd, 12V, Speed, Control Pin (analog Voltage)
So when i would attach a fan control (just a poti) between some +5v and the Control Pin I think I should be able to control the fan manualy - am i right?
But then the speed signal is not the speed the mac pro fan control software think of... so would it be a problem e.g. if i disconnect the speed pin from the mainboard fan connector?
what would happen then? is the mac pro powering up the other fans for some kind of failsafe?
Or have you other suggestions how I can lower the speed of the rear fan manually?
    thanks in advance,
    Stefan

Take a look at the project some have undertaken to go with water block.
Send the motherboard in to have a 'skilled' electrician? repair the board perhaps.
4 fans, 3 under the control of SMCFAnControl utility. Maybe disable the one fan and make up for it with your own fan and running the others efficiently.
There are also VGA copper coolers.
FBDIMMs bleed heat: maybe the RAM fan cooler kit in there to deal with large source of heat. New higher density DIMMs are better made and few DIMMs = less heat even if 4GB.
Use ice packs, dry ice and liquid nitrogen to super cool :-)

  • No fans working withouth Lubbo's fan control

    Hi.
I recently installed on a Boot Camp Partition, Windows 7.
I installed correctly all the drivers using my iMac installation CD, in windows. However i can't get the fans working, if i don't use Lubbo's Fan Control software: this is the only way to get them working.
But this software if for the macbooks, so i can't get the fans work properly.
My iMac is a 2011 model, if you need to know
Can someone help, getting my fans working correctly on Boot Camp?
    Thanks to everyone.

Apple has a big weakness and this has always been an issue.
I used InputRemapper for years also.
Windows on Mac is less than 100%, enough so that while I still (right now) running 7 on Mac Pro, I ended up building a couple PCs too.
For a long time - over a year - my hope was to get SpeedFan to work, but that never happened.

  • What Fan Cooling software to use on imac? (Leopard 10.5.1)

    Hello,
I'm a frequent online user (online games, websites) and I would like to know what kind of fan control software can I use to cool my imac.
If you suggest one, tell me what specific settings I need to cool my imac properly.
    Thanks,
    Michael

Energy Saver in Apple menu -> System Preferences can manage performance of the machine within specs. No other fan control software does it within spec guidelines, and could without meaning to cause the machine to overheat if it turns off the fan when the machine needs to cool down. Please identify your iMac:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301724
and see if it is under one of these exchange programs to see if the power supply may need fixing so the fan operates only when necessary:

  • GS60 2QE VS GS70 2QE | CPU Fan managment

    Hello,
So i've actually ordered the msi gs70 2QE stealth silver edition.
When i unpacked it, i have been very surprised by the actual size of the device. I tried it, it is everything I expected, but the size of the notebook is too much for me.
So i decided to order the msi gs60 2QE ghost pro, which has a 15" screen with the exact same specifications, less ports, but basically, same core, same GTX970M, same ram.
I unpacked it and i am very happy about the size, everything seems better designed, and the size is just what i need.
But i had another sad surprise with this one when i turned it ON.
The computer's fan makes a lot of noise, nothing like the GS70 2QE
I don't get it, it seems like it has been configured differently.
The CPU is always around 38°C on GS60 and CPU fan run all the time at 2891 RPM.
When on the GS70, CPU is always around 48° at 0 RPM, fan run rarely at 3000 RPM to cool down for a sec.
    I love a 1000 time more the GS70 configuration.
I don't understand why MSI didn't make the same on the GS60.
    Is there any particular reason?
It gets really annoying when you're just quietly reading an article browsering online.
Please MSI, do something about it. It literrally kills the good experience I had on GS70 that i returned.
My feelings are mixed about the purchase I just made, when it should be excellent. All of this just due to really annoying constant fan noise

Considering the difference of the size between GS60 & GS70, I don't think their thermal characteristics would be the same.
The size of the fan (the volume of air flow), the length of the copper pipes, the number of the fins near the outtake and etc., are all different.
    here you can see diffirence
    MSI GS60
    MSI GS70
keep in mind GS70 picture is from a 2013 version since that version only had 2x msata + sata at that time but version 2014 and up has 3x msata slots + sata

  • Fans dont respond to smc fan control any,ore

    Hi,
I was just about to replace my left-hand fan due to loud grating noise but upon removal of the top case and inspection I noticed plenty of fluff and hard debris in the fan bay so removed it, cleaned and the fan works silently now.
Only trouble is, now -even though the fans are at 2000rpm approx I have no control over them as they have stopped responding to the slider/min. speed settings on smc fan control. Is there any reason for this?
Have reset SMC on the MBP using the power button for 5 seconds but no joy.
I konw this forum doesn'y cover 3rd party apps but wondered whether it was a hardware issue first.
    Help gratefully received.
    Regards,
    Ben

I had a similar problem before. Please note that it is important that you uninstall smc program and once then do you do SMC reset.
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer’s battery.
    3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
    4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
    5. Press the Power button to restart the computer.
Once you done that you should reset PRAM and NVRAM
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Now try to install software again.

  • Any ideas for security and parental control software yet???

Just received two of the touchpads from the fire sale and gave them to my kids, both under 10.  I am very interested in limiting the sites that can be accessed through the browser, as well as a few other things.  Has anyone found a practical means of doing this?  I'd hate to give up on this and switch it over to Android, especially since there is only Gingerbread available.  But, I just don't know what else I can do about these.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Please take this post with a grain of salt. I don't claim to be a security and parental control software expert, but I have researched these solutions and have some personal experience with them. That being said, here's some ideas to get you started.
As speedtouch mentioned, OpenDNS is a fantastic solution for website filtering. They have a great set of filters that can be customized and are one of the easiest systems to set up. Simply install an updater app on one of your desktop computers (or directly on your router if it's supported), configure your router to use their DNS servers, and you're good to go. I personally use this system mysefl and it works really well. The only downside in my experience is that there is not a temporary override system (at least, not in the free version that I use). An example of when this might be handy: my wife goes clothes shopping and looking at new bras. Every once in a while, a perfectly legitimate site might get blocked (in this case, probably something I don't want my kid looking at but perfectly fine for my wife). The option to "temporarily override the block" or "temporarily allow" the site would be nice, but it doesn't exist.
Another FANTASTIC solution that I've used in the past is the Astaro Security Gateway. They have a free home version of their "Software Appliance" that goes above and beyond OpenDNS. I haven't used it in a while, but when I did it was able to not only filter web sites but also monitor Instant Messaging and other online activites. It's a bit more involved as you need your own hardware (I used an old computer with 2 network cards and stuck it in between my router and my broadband modem), but the results are pretty powerful.
The downside to all these solutions, however, is that they will only work when the TouchPad is on your network. If they connect to a neighbors network of if the go to a friends house, all of these systems will be moot because they are completely bypassed. The only way to monitor that content from ANY network would be to install an application on the device itself and to my knowledge, none exist.
