GS70 2QE - Help needed.... non of my USB ports work :(

Hi guys and gyals...
First time posting here and I wish it was in a positive light but unfortunatley I have an error on my laptop thats preventing me from using it.
So I purchased a GS70 2QE with 970m and 4720 processor. I was very happy for the first two days with its performance until the time I had to use the USB ports. I realise that non of them work at all. Im normally quite good at solving tech issues but this one is going beyond me. Ive done updates on all intel/windows/nvidia drivers as far as I can tell, plus Ive checked the BIOS for usb settings and they are all enabled. Ive switched off the power saving for usb function as well as doing TWO complete reinstalls of windows and still I have no usb.
On the device manager all usb devices seem errorless except one... 'unknown USB device (link in compliance mode)', might I add that nothing is plugged in at this time. Clicking on this brings up the following:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
The SuperSpeed link to the USB device keeps going to an error state Compliance. If the device is removable, remove the device and then disable/enable from device manager to recover."
Ive attempted to uninstall all usb devices and reboot yet windows just reinstalls the same things and I get the same issue.
Now unfortunatley MSI arent so great. Ive called their UK support number 4 times and its just rang through after 30 mins each time. I have also sent an email to support.... no response.... What the hell is this all about... when I purchase a machine thats this expensive I kinda expect some support value.
Anyway Im in limbo now, cant work, cant game, cant do anything but browse the net with my trackpad. Other than this issue Im happy with the laptop.

Im on win 8.1 out of the box. On 8.1 page theres no drivers for usb 3.0. Now I know there is a problem whereby intel havent released drivers for usb 3.0, all drivers are being given by microsoft as I understand, and the only work around is to use win 7 drivers that are edited. Now I have tried this and while the extensibile host controller accepts the new driver it still doesnt make the ports work. Im hoping that this issue with intel and usb 3.0 is the problem as I would like to solve this out as a software problem as opposed to sending it off for a hardware fix.
After your post I downloaded the win7 usb 3.0 drivers and eventually edited them as per this page:
Google search: plugable windows 8 and host controllers
As I stated above, no luck....

I have tried mouse. keyboard and a generic USB stick with a LED. None of the USB ports work on the replicator. Everything works fine when connected directly to the W530. The replicator ports must not have power because the LED doesn't come on.

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!   First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 15 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that didn't work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
If that still didn't get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
A bad internal PRAM battery can also cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!   Also, here is Apple doc.#88338 on getting FireWire to work.

  • I did factory install on my hp probook 4520s and usb ports worked

did factory instasll usb ports worked after restarting it saids usb ports cannot start in deviice mangager

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • Help!! Ipod Video usb Port Not recognized !

Could anyone tell me what's going on with my ipod video 30g?
My friend borrowed my ipod for a file copy to his desktop, when I got it back and pluged it in the dock, the computer said: usb can't be recognized.
I am sure that the USB hub of my IBM is perfectly okay. And It is okay for the ipod to play music, photos and videos.
By the way, My friend's External Portable Hard drive also had the same problem after connecting to his desktop.
Have we got the Ipod usb port burned? Is there any way we can fix it?
    Thank You!

    Also see this:
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize IPod:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
It seems that many people are still getting the 'USB Device not Recognized' problem from time to time. Unfortunately there is no easy fix.
Firstly, it's recommended that you make sure every one of your motherboard drivers are completely up-to-date, but you probably already knew that.
In XP, after a USB port isn't used for a long while the USB driver built into the OS sets the OHCI controller to suspend. When you plug a device back in, it can sometimes fail to 'wake up' properly. This problem was supposedly fixed in SP1 but there is a related registry hack that may still be able to help.
    Run regedt32.exe and navigate to;
    HKEYLOCALMachine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Usb
Create the Usb key if it doesn't already exist. Under this key, create a new DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend and give it a value of 1. Then restart the PC.
A long shot perhaps, but I recall having similar problems with a USB hub built into my Microsoft keyboard and adding this key seemed to solve it. It wouldn't hurt in trying .
Alternatively, removing all entries relating to USB in Device Manager and all associated USB drivers will force XP into refreshing the USB driver stack.
    Begin by unplugging all USB devices, then use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall any USB driver software. Next, boot up into safe mode and go to Device Manager. Once in device manager make sure 'Show hidden devices' is checked under the View menu. Uninstall all device entries in this order;
    1. USB peripheral devices (printers etc.)
    2. HID and/or Composite USB (Human Interface Devices) You're using PS/2 input devices so you may not have this entry.
    3. USB Root Hub(s)
    4. USB Host Controller(s) (Universal or Enhanced Host Controllers)
Then boot back into Windows (not safe mode) and it should populate the Root Hubs & Host controllers again. Proceed to plug your USB devices back in, starting with your powered hub. Be aware that most USB printers and scanners need to have their drivers installed first before you plug them in.
Hopefully some of this may be of help, let me know how you get on.

  • Help needed w/ JDeveloper and Raptor not working for me in 10.4

Well, I've been successfully running the previous version of JDeveloper, 10.1.2.0.0 (Build 1811) for a few months on my OS X, Tiger (10.4) laptop. I recently tried to get Project Raptor running. I'm using Apple's version of Java from Software Update, J2SE 5.0 Release 3 which is the most up-to-date version I can find anywhere.
My problem is this. I can do most anything fine, but as soon as I try to Debug an PL/SQL function in either Raptor, or the JDeveloper 10.1.3 build I get an error "Unsupported feature Vendor Code 17023" when I click OK in the Debug PL/SQL dialog box.
Thing is that this works just fine in JDeveloper 10.1.2.0.0 (Build 1811). The thing that is interesting is the 10.1.2 JDeveloper uses the Java 1.4.2 where Raptor and JDeveoper 10.1.3 use the Java 1.5, I'm guessing it's a problem in Apple's Java 1.5 but can anyone else verify this or offer help to how I can make it work?
    tks

I fail to get the error message you describe. What I get is:
    ===========================
    Connecting to the database test10.
Executing PL/SQL: ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_DEBUG=TRUE
    Executing PL/SQL: CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP( '10.0.1.103', '52221' )

  • USB Ports work Intermittantly on Pavilion Notebook

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-2270us Entertainment Notebook PC that is running Windows 7. The USB ports seem to work intermittantly. There are two regular USB ports on the left hand side and one on the right. I have an iPhone, Adidas miCoach, and wireless mouse that I usually have plugged in, and lately nothing is recognized.
Sometimes I get an error that the USB device is not recognized, sometimes I get nothing at all as though the ports aren't even there.
I have tried taking out the battery, replacing and rebooting. I have also tried uninstalling the USB Root Hub, and then the Root Hub plus controllers. When I did this it seemed like it worked - I plugged my mouse in and it worked! I plugged my iPhone in and now nothing works again.
I have Norton 360 Installed (in case that is an issue), and I also have some old Sony Ericksson software that I've recently uninstalled because someone told me that it wreaked havoc on their machine in terms of their device drivers.
The laptop is just out of warranty (Dec 2010) so this is a relatively new machine. But I love all my gadgets and need to be able to use them all!

Right Click on all devices which are recognized as unknown and Choose Uninstall one by one.
Please ensure you also do this for any and every item under Universal serial bus controllers as well. After this restart your computer and you should be good to go.

  • Why wont my USB ports work?

Hello, this is my first post and i am after a little help.
i am having problems with my usb ports, i have a k8neo platinum mobo. i have usb ports on that, i have two front usb ports and i have a 4 four in a pci slot. a few weeks back they work working, i had been using a pen drive fine and my friends external hd connected through my front usb ports. now for some reason none work. i have tried my pen drive in every usb port and none work, the pci usb ports dont recognise it and all the others dont see anything at all. i have checked the bios and that seems fine. i dont know why they would just stop... i run win xp pro with service pack 2 so it should have no problem? any help would be great.

Fenix, after reading your post above, I decided to check my Antec case's wiring, manual, website and check the MOBO manual. In my instance the case, disregarding the 9th wire, and the MOBO agree. I did find some interesting information about the connector block and the Antec case. I bolded the warning information:
    http://www.antec.com/us/support_roductInfo_FAQ.php?Qnumber=5&FAQno=14
    Quote from: Antec
What is the typical pin configuration of the Antec USB connector?
The Antec USB connector follows the Intel standard layout. Majority of the motherboards follow the same standard as well. Intel Standard 10pin Layout
    Pin 1 = Power Pin 2 = Power
    Pin 3 = Data - Pin 4 = Data -
    Pin 5 = Data + Pin 6 = Data +
    Pin 7 = Ground Pin 8 = Ground
Pin 9 = Key or Blocked pin Pin 10 = Ground
Warning: If your motherboard contains a USB pin labeled OC or NC, make sure that no wire goes to it. You can lift the black tab and pull the wire out or simply clip the wire going to it. The pin for it is usually in pin 10. When a wire is connected to OC or NC, all the USB ports can stop working, the system can automatically shut down, or the secondary IDE is disabled.
In your case, rewiring may have been the solution, but, as you can see, in my case, and I suspect in many, if not most, cases, the solution of removing the 9th wire at the #10 pin is the correct course of action.
I think you should post your solution, but please identify you Case's make and model as this solution may be limited to that case or to certain cases.  I think double checking to ensure that the wiring of the case matches the pin configuration is a very good course of action. There may be several solutions to this problem and yours or mine may not be the only ones.

  • No usb ports work, can't instal usb 3 driver

I received an HP Elitebook 8540w laptop from work, the hardrive was wiped with just the OS installed (windows 7 pro 64bit). I downloaded and installed all applicable drivers from here.  Everything seems to work except the usb ports.  There are three usb 2.0  ports on the left and two usb 3.0 ports on the right.  None of them will recognize devices installed in them.  My usb optical mouse's laser will flash for a second when it's plugged in and my external drive (1TB Passport) will spin up but never shows in nMy Computer as a accessible drive. Device Manager shows 2 Generic USB Hubs, 2 Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controllers, and 2 USB Root Hubs.  Comparing this to my other Elitebook 8540w it is missing a Renesa USB 3.0 Host Controller Hub.  THis was one of the drivers installed with the others above but it's not showing anywhere.  I've since removed and reinstalled this driver several times with no changes. Runing the USB 3.0 Host Controller Uitility that installs with this driver gives a "USB 3.0 Host Controller not found error." Please help!

Hi, Please check your IT deparment, they may disable USB ports elsewhere. My working laptops (all of them) have same "problem", my IT department even disabled C: drive, optical drive I can't see them anywhere. I can't see Devive Manager. I can only use USB ports to charge my phone or tablet. Regards.

  • Making Your USB port Work For You

I'm thrilled we now have a new board to get our customers’ feedback! My name is Alysia Eve and I am the Worldwide Product Portfolio Marketing Manager for ThinkPad. Our team is responsible for developing, building and launching new ThinkPad products. As we look to the future we want YOUR feedback to help shape our products and features. Our goal is to develop products that not only meet your needs but you love owning and using.
For our first post, we are looking for input and thoughts about our Always-On USB feature. The Always-On USB feature is indicated on the system by a USB symbol with a power plug next to it. The Always-On USB port allows users to charge external devices even when your computer is in sleep or hibernation mode.
We would appreciate your input on the following questions:
Do you know one of the USB ports can charge your cell phone even when the PC is turned off?
Do you know from 2013, ThinkPad’s have a rapid charge feature on one of the USB port to more quickly charge your cell phone?
Does the battery icon next to the USB port sufficiently indicate that you can rapidly charge your phone?
Do you find this feature valuable?
Would you use this instead of your cell phone charger on a trip?
    We really appreciate your thoughts!

    Hello,
    In response to your questions:
Q1:  Do you know one of the USB ports can charge your cell phone even when the PC is turned off?
A1:  Yes, assuming it is enabled in the BIOS/UEFI firmware.
Q2:  Do you know from 2013, ThinkPad’s have a rapid charge feature on one of the USB port to more quickly charge your cell phone?
A2:  Yes, assuming it works with the various devices I carry, all of which have different, incompatible high-current charging modes.
Q3:  Does the battery icon next to the USB port sufficiently indicate that you can rapidly charge your phone?
A3:  I've rarely needed to use it, since I carry a small external USB charger with me (4.2 amp 2×USB charger, international voltage compatible).
Q4:  Do you find this feature valuable?
A4:  I've used it on occasion, but it doesn't offer a much additional functionality beyond what I already carry with me.
Q5:  Would you use this instead of your cell phone charger on a trip?
A5:  No, I never travel without an external USB cell phone charger.  It is more convenient to use an external USB charger and put it away when finished than it is to take out my entire notebook and have it charge a single device at a rate more slowly than the portable charger does.
    Comments:
I typically travel with two smartphones, a 4G wireless hotspot, a tablet, an ebook reader and a Bluetooth headset, all of which charge via micro USB jacks.
    Regards,
    Aryeh Goretsky

  • If my left USB port works, will a Left I/O Board replacement fix my issue?

I recently bought a Macbook Pro 2.33GHz off of craigslist. The seller made it seem like the issue was a dead battery because it would not take a charge. I have been looking online and it seems like the Left I/O board could be the issue. I have no problem buying one of these and replacing it myself, but I want to know if that could be the issue even though my left USB port and headphone jack works (part of the same board).

    Hi acceler8,
before making a decision why not simply take the battery for testing at a local Apple AASP or store or try it in another MBP? If the battery proves to be the cause of the problem, then a new I/O board is not likely to do much good. If the battery is fine, then the I/O board would be one of the candidates as the cause of the problem. But a "battery that won't take a charge" usually results from either it being defective, OR from it having been allowed to discharge to a point where its own built in microprocessor is no longer able to operate (in the latter case they can sometimes be revived, if they have't been left too long).
But it is far easier/cheaper to get the battery tested first, than to go to the work and expense of replacing the i/o board and then find you you simply really needed a new battery anyway!
If the computer runs fine off the mains power supply it is unlikely to be the I/O. More likely to be the battery or the logicboard.
    Cheers
    Rod
