GS70 Stealth Intel Rapid Raid Problems

Hi everybody,
I bought my GS70 a year ago, and last month I decided to try the super raid that they talked about in the website. I already had an SSD almost since I bought it (actually I won a contest in the spanish forum about posting a review of a game using the GS70 :P) but I didn't have enough money to buy the second one.
I have configured the raid 0. Windows recognise it and I have tested it speed:
The pic shows my HDD speed, my first SSD alone and the Raid 0.
My problem is that since I have done it, Intel Rapid says that there is an error and it doesn't recognize the raid
Sorry about the spanish, but the Spanish forum doesn't exist anymore. I can translate the text if someone needs to understand clearly what it says.
Thank you in advance

No, here is not the right board for your post. It should belongs to Gaming Notebooks.
Which GS70 model do you have? The GS70 Stealth?
Here is a tutorial made by MSI which you can have a look:
Make sure you didn't lost any set ups while creating the RAID 0 volume.
If your GS70 originally has the pre-installed system, then create the recovery media for the system restore after you installed the new SSD.
If you're using the windows installation disk, make sure you use the official drivers downloaded from MSI website.

  • Help Intel Rapid Start Problem U410

I've suddenly started having a problem with my U410 laptop. Everytime I put it on it shows a message that my system does not apear to have Intel Rapid Start Tecnology enabled. Ive checked the bios and it shows it being enabled but also that the IRST Partition status INVALID.
Can anyone pleas help me resolve this, I'm running Windows 8.1, the laptop is now out of warranty.

    Hey everyone,
I registered just to at the very least post a possible solution to this problem. Was working on a U310 Touch unit tonight and came across the very same issue described in this post. Upon starting the unit in Windows 8, you get to the desktop and get a lovely message about Intel Rapid Start Technology not being enabled on the unit. Well, I went into the EFI BIOS and discovered that iRST was in an invalid state. Upon further investigation I noticed the 25GB partition (all within the same single hdd, as this unit did not have an ssd inside) was visible to the end user through Computer as a regular disk.
So the solution? Well, the partition somehow got unmarked as the hibernation partition! In my case, the fix was to use diskpart, select disk 0 (only hdd in machine), select the 25GB partition (was partition 7 I believe for my case) and ran this command (from the Rapid Start user guide and a microsoft forum post):
    set id=D3BFE2DE-3DAF-11DF-BA40-E3A556D89593
This magical command sets the partition which we selected to be the hibernation partition. Once I rebooted, the error messages never came back, and I checked in the BIOS and now iRST says "Established", and everything is back to working order!
Hope this helps someone, took me a little while to figure this out.
    ** SMALL EDIT **
I used the default settings in the BIOS, set as AHCI in this case (no ssd, single hdd) when I checked after resetting to defaults.

Like in that link    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=102476.0  I've same problem and I could'nt solve this. My SATA Disc are 2 x Samsung sp1213c and Its raid0 in sata 1-2-3-4 on board (I changed ports to solve problem but not solved)
When I set jmicron sata controller (jmb361) as IDE or SATA and at same time I set Raid my sata DISC on option ıntel ICH7DH(in integrated pheriperals in SATA configuraitons)  I got a "Warning: have option can not be invoke (Vendor ID:XXXXX, Device ID: XXXXX)" message. When I set the Jmicron Ide contoller as Disabled(devices on IDE2 cannot work) and My sata discs are detected and I can set my disc as raid (so I can use CTRL+I option)
I can use Raid like above
When WinXP installation I pressed F6 and I chose  " iaStor_ICH7DH = "Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)" " and windows read files my diskette and resume installation. I can see my Drives and can select for installation. After format my raid 0 drive(s) as NTFS and when started copying windows files windows alert me to plug diskette and press enter for iastor files again. But Windows couldn't read same files from same diskette at this time (!!!!!)( diskette works fine and not has bad sector)    I don't know what the reason responsible from it. I have to press esc Ignore this files. After copying files and first reboot The windows XP logo come and 2 -4 seconds later Blue screen is come. Make sure you are using Windows XP SP2 installation CD.
If you have problems integrating the drivers using a floppy disc you can try to use tools like XP ISO BUILDER or NLITE to integrate the necessary drivers into a whole new installation CD.
Which BIOS Version are you using?
    My bios is 7.44
    I use SP1 Wındows XP
I also tried integrated drives and when Press S key to read diskette Windows alert me like message "Windows have this driver if you want to use press enter to continue" like that
I used different program to integrate Raid/SATA drivers to XP

  • [GS70 Stealth Pro] RAID 0 Volatile Volume Cache Mode configuration

I discovered that in IRST there is an option to set a cache mode for my 3 ssd raid 0 array.
I've read the documentation by Intel and have some questions:
Are there any overall benefits/risks from enabling cache mode?
As I'm on a laptop, would write back be recommended? I read it increases chance of data loss on power interruption. What is the difference between how windows handles data integrity and the intel driver?
Read only mode seems to have the benefit of faster reads, does it have any downsides?
    Thanks for your help guys!

I just recently acquired a GS70 Stealth Pro, which came with only 1 128gb msata ssd. i picked up two more, put them in, for a total of 3 128gb ssd's, and have since enabled raid 0. upon doing so (and restoring an image i took with acronis) my laptop will now boot directly to BIOS when UEFI boot is on. If i change it to Legacy, the laptop boots fine, first to intel rapid storage, then to the OS. r/w speeds are around 1k and 500, and everything says that the raid volume is enabled. is there an issue with being on legacy instead of UEFI? and what exactly is the difference?
It seems like your system is installed under Legacy mode which doesn't allow you to boot up under UEFI mode.
You'll need to re-install the system under UEFI mode to do so. I'd suggest to use the MSI BurnRecovery to create the Recovery disks and recover the system under UEFI mode.
People share that the most obvious difference between Win8 Legacy and Win8 UEFI is the boot up time, but I've never tried it on the GS70 model.

  • [SOLVED] Problems installing on Intel Matrix Raid / FAKE RAID

Using Intel Rapid Storage Technology - Option ROM - 11.0.0.1339
    I've created a:
RAID0(Stripe) Strip 32KB Size 214.3GB Status Normal Bootable Yes
Volume which I want to install Arch on.
I've gone through this all the way to a successful install using Fedora (if that is of any help whatsoever)?
So, with Arch, I have read and tried:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … e_RAID_set
As soon as I do a UEFI or BIOS install of Arch and run lsblk I get:
    sda-
    md126
    sdb-
    md126
(and using gdisk can create ef00 200M partition and root such as: md126p1 md126p2)
    Once I follow https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … e_RAID_set, and, do:
    # modprobe dm_mod
    # dmraid -ay
    [  39.383447] device-mapper: table: 254:1 striped: Couldn't parse stripe destination
RAID set "isw_dejgjdecda_SSD" was not activated
ERROR: device "isw_dejgjdecda_SSD" could not be found
I am hoping I may end my story here and someone will reply something along the lines of "well, that's because....", and I can continue on my determined attempt to install Arch on this RAID Volume.
However, obviously, I have not just given up at this point, so, some more info just in case it helps:
I can access /dev/md126 in gdisk and use gdisk fully
    I can mount/pacstrap/genfstab/chroot/
Then - problems arise - I cannot seem to get the install to boot after having tried either UEFI or BIOS boot using Syslinux, Gummiboot & Grub - always used GPT for the Array by the way.
Any ideas?  Is there a module to load?  I'm still a newbie guys, so, apologies for any glaring mistakes....
Thank you all very much for any help with this.

  • (Re)activate Intel Rapid start technolgy (RST) & RAID @U310

    Dear community,
I have been frustrated about this for long time. Got U310 with win8(24GB SSD+500GB HDD).
People says I should set RAID in BIOS. But I got only error and cannot do recovery. So I set back to ACHI mode and system restored. Then error: "Your system does not apear to have Intel Rapid Start technology enabled".
    - Yes, I have tried to set BIOS ACHI to RAID, no start.
    - SSD 24GB is in device manager, not paritioned.
    - intel RAID software installed
    - So the point is: I have to activate in BIOS ACHI to RAID, but then Pc will not start.
       So whats is the problem?
Now the partitions looks as this:
Could anyone help me, how to reactivate the RAID/ fast caching technolgy of RST?
Another frustration is: how to backup my system(win8) to USB media, so that I could restore factory state?
appreciate any advices, thanks in advance!

    Hi,  bradlutz1
thanks for your reply! How do you identify it is defective?  You have now a RAID enabled U310 or U410?
My SSD HD can be manually partitioned and use as a normal R/W HDD. Just it cannot set to RAID I think, which should be set to before install windows 8. checking into BIOS, the Intel Rapid Storage technolgy (iRST) is enabled. But I still have problem( see screenshot): How does it look like for yours?
On the other side, I use windows 8 recovery programm created a USB drive as recovery media. I want to use it to reset /recovery my PC to factory default with RAID eanbale.
First I set BOIS to RAID. Boot from HDD, but still failed, it says (I think AHCI could go thru):
Seeing from the partition picture in my first post, I think the last 20G partition is Lenovo recovery, but how to backup it and restore?
Very annoying also, the Lenovo program OneKey Recovery program 8.0(for win8) gives no option to create factory DVD/USB media, while its ver. 7 did:

  • [Solved] Problems with my new GS70 Stealth

    Hello!
I've just bought my first MSI product. Which is the GS70 Stealth laptop.
Now, I'm not a PC newbie so I immediately checked that everything was working on it as soon as it was delivered at my door.
I began testing the hardware if every key, button, socket etc worked, which so far I haven't found any issues with.
I have however noticed that when I log in after reboot, it takes about 1 minute for my network connection to be established. I tried to reinstall the Killer E2200 driver which didn't help. I have never had this issue before and I've tested with 3 other laptops in my home which did not have this issue.
Is this a common issue with this network card/driver?
I also noticed that when I lock my PC (windows+L), it says "Please Wait". After about 10 seconds which in my opinion is quite long since it has SSD, not to mention RAID 0 SSD's, the lock screen is presented. And when I try to access my desktop again, I press on any key which should prompt me for my local user credentials, it just says "Please Wait" and after about 1 minute, goes back to the lock screen.
I've followed a few Windows 8 threads on Microsoft Technet after I installed about 200 windows updates, which were about the same issues as I had. Microsoft support recommends everyone with this problem to do a recovery. I don't tend to do recoveries on my PC's as I have a bad experience of it. I'd rather just install Windows 8.1 on my GS70.
Before I do that, I'd just like to know if this is anything common with this model or if it's just a faulty Windows 8 installation by the provider?
    Best regards.

Alright, I'll just try to reinstall my PC with Windows 8.1. As I'm quite sure this current installation is having issues. If this doesn't make any difference to my network issues, I'll contact their support.
I hope it's nothing wrong with the network card
    Thanks Svet for your help.

  • MSI GS70 Stealth Power Button problem

I just got my gs70 stealth laptop. The power button keeps changing between orange and white almost every second. Am I missing some driver?
    Please help, thanks!

    Svet it correct.
Most likely there is something that is causing the computer to use the NVidia dedicated graphics card for less than a second, over and over. It could even be the monitoring program that is included with the NVidia drivers (to allow you to see what programs are accessing the video card, this will cause the card to get enabled as you describe over and over).

  • Z77A-GD65 and Intel Rapid Start -suddently a problem ?

    Greetings.
Have been using Fast Boot with my mobo since I learned how to do it, and it has worked flawless. But suddently something annoying is begun.
When power on with IRS active, it starts to load with black screen, but after about 5 seconds, the hdd-led turns off, and my monitor goes to sleepmode (no signal from graphic-card). It then just hold there for 15-25 seconds, then wake on again and boot to windows 7.
At first I had an access-code to log into windows, and with this active the pause 15-25 seconds is after the screen to type password is on, but BEFORE I can actually type anything.
    What can cause this error?
On a secondary SSD I have installed Windows 8, incl. Intel Rapid Start, and the error is ALSO there! So my guess is, that it is something in the BIOS, but I have not changed anything in BIOS (just the bootorder to start from either SSD1 or SSD2 (Win7 or Win8).
Please help if you can. I have braged about my 10 seconds start to a friend, but when I showed it to him, I had this silly error, so instead of 10 seconds it took 33 seconds. It was so embarrassing for me

Is the hibernation partition large enough? (= to the amount of ram you have installed)
Since this worked for awhile, what changed?
Did you install some new drivers, new bios or new hardware?
Might want to update the firmware of the ssd's
If you wish, you can try the newest bios: >>Beta BIOSes<< When used with the forum flash tool, it will update the me versions. Aftwards, you will need to re-install the me drivers.
Yes, it has worked, so partitions is OK. The strange thing is, that I have not changed drivers (oh yes, a driver for my  Nvidia graphic card, but that was after the error began, and only in Windows 7), no new BIOS settings I can remember of, no new hardware. It just started this about a week ago without I have changed anything. I have tried to reset BIOS, and load an earlier setup-profile of BIOS (my OC-settings), but that did not help.
Oh, BTW, I can't install Microsoft SDK tool as seen here:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/177443-gathering-startup-shutdown-sleep-hibernate-reboot-trace.html
It begin install, but suddently under install, it starts to uninstall again without any error. I have an idea, that this tool might show me what is going on when starting IRS, but that might be a mistake?

  • Your system does not appear to have intel rapid start technology

I have a Lenovo U310 with windows 8 and wish I could take it back. Problem after problem with this computer, both hardware and software related. I started getting this message about the Intel rapid start a couple of days ago. I went into this forum and one of the specilists suggested going into BIOS and change the SATA controller working mode to RAID and to enable IRST which I did. Now the computer can not start. It tries to load and it says that the recovery system failed. I can get to the BIOS menu again but I wont let me get to configuration screen. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks

    hi yzarate,
I'm sorry to hear what happened,
If the system is giving you a failed to start Option,  Restarting it May sometime give you option Like Safe mode,
If you're getting that, select that option and it should be able to start you system while in RAID then restart the system again once booted back up.
If you're not getting that message I would suggest go back to BIOS
go to the Exit TAB, Select Load optimized default or press F9 to load defaults, F10 to save and Exit and hit enter,
Try loading BIOS again and see if the configuration tab will be available,
    Best Regards

  • [Z77A-GD65] Intel Rapid Storage Technology 11.5.0.1207

    Hi,
I've been updating some drivers today on a new build (in sig. below) with W8RP following the recent release of new drivers.
    Updated drivers to latest for Chipset, VGA, Intel Management Engine, but when I get to RST I get the following error;
'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.'
I've rebooted after each driver update.
This also happened to me a few days ago on a previous OS install on this machine, but on that occasion the version on the supplied DVD with the MB was the same version number and worked fine, of course this is now out of date.
I have my SATA controller set to RAID and I see my drives in the RAID ROM prior to POST but as yet no RAID ARRAY set up, but last time I did this, that was done when following the prompts when starting RST the first time.
I'm trying to use my SSD to accelerate my HDD but not sure why I get the above error message :-s

    Hi xmad,
Thanks for that, somehow some confusion had crept into proceedings and I was trying to use the Rapid Start package which is now no surprise why it was complaining at me because I don't have that switched on in bios at the moment.
The link you supplied is right, I had that already but somehow had got it confused with the Rapid Start one.  It also has the floppy file set for supplying during OS install which is not separately highlighted on the downloads page like it is for the earlier version. Extracted and tested the setup file in the package you linked to 'intel_rst8_mb' which completes setup now.
I've taken my driver / utility load sequencing from Live Update 5 History Tab prior to me uninstalling it.

  • GS70 2pc intel hd graphics

This is a great laptop (gs70 stealth i5) the specs are really nice i have a i5  .. 860m graphics card but i think this laptop has heating problems because the new stupid nvidia tehnology with forces u to use the integrated cpu graphics card  INTEL HD GRAPHICS as your main card wich results in  killing your cpu and your gpu's capabilities and  overheats them.
Is there any way  to completely disable from bios the stupid intel hd integrated graphics wich overheats this laptop uncesarely and slows down the 860m graphics card?
And if it is possible to upgrade my CPU to i7 4700hq. Thx

You can't disable the integrated Intel iGPU because you won't get ANY video output without it. It's required in order to work (as some of the display outputs pass through the Intel iGPU in order to get displayed....).
As far as the overheating and comparing to the Asus, the Asus is a larger notebook with much more cooling area, what do you expect? This is just common physics....
The notebook is not strained by the Intel iGPU at all. Your i5 is going to use more CPU power simply because it's a lower CPU. Pretty much common sense to be honest....
The differences between the i5 4200H and the i7 4700HQ (those are the 2 I'm assuming we're talking about) is very small. In fact the only big difference is the i7 has 4 cores and handles 8 threads, compared to the i5 that has 2 cores and handles 4 threads. The GPU is actually the same part (4600) and the only difference is the core clock speeds (i5 is 1.15GHz, i7 is 1.2GHz).
This all comes down to cooling. The Asus has more room inside it for a cooler (which is why it's a larger laptop....), so it will run naturally cooler.
The best thing I could recommend would be to repaste the CPU and GPU. That should make a little bit of a difference depending on what's going on.
But I don't really see any big heat issues here.....nothing unusual at all to be honest.
