GS70 Stealth Keyboard Lighting

Hey,
I have just got my hands on the GS70 today, and everything looks good, other than the keyboard lighting (small issue but bugs the hell out of me). Some of the lighting does not work, for example the F7 F8 F9 F11, the left ALT and the number pad. I was just wondering if that if anyone is facing the similar problem.

Most likely this is a hardware issue and the won't be much you can do about it. I would RMA it....

Is the steelseries keyboard that comes with the original GS70 Stealth (GTX 765M) programmable? I have KLM for altering the backlights of course, but i was hoping for a way to set macros and such if possible.

GS70 STEALTH powerful tool "Hotkey Config"

Hey guys,
I've noticed that there are some people like me who only owns the previous GS70. (I feel quiet disappointed when I found out that SteelSeries Engine don’t work my GS70 Stealth:( )

Had it tested on my GS70 and it works better than I thought, so think might be a good idea to share with you guys.
It needs a special version of EC and Hotkey Config.

I've used it in LOL also Street Fighter 4 and have to say it works quiet good.
The delay between each key can be adjusted so I can gives combos easily in Street Fighter.
I’m still trying out on different games, will keep you guys update if I have any news.

Except the keyboard backlight color is controlled by Keyboard LED Manager.
You can create profiles with different macro keys and use them in different scenarios like SSE does.

GS70 and GS70 Stealth

Hello all
I have a small question that is on my mind and hoping someone can shed some light on the situation
I am sort of looking to get a new laptop for myself and have seen the GS70 and GS70 Stealth, my question is, what is the difference between the 2 of them or are they both the same?
also is it worth to get them now, or is there going to be some great laptop that msi will be releasing that is worth waiting for.
any response would be greatly appreciated

New MSI keyboard lighting not changing colour

Hey guys.
I purchased a GS70 a couple of days ago. So far I'm very happy with it, but after opening up the KLM thing the keyboard won't change at all, despite showing the changes on the screen? Any help would be very much appreciated as it's starting to drive me crazy!

Have you update the BIOS and EC firmware?

MSI GS70 Stealth '6' key not working

Hi all.
I recently got an GS70 Stealth.
So far I've been extremely impressed by it. It's damn quick, and plays nearly all my games at high settings.
I've only one issue though.
The keypad '6' doesn't work consistently. 99% of the time it doesn't work.
But sometimes, after repeatedly tapping it, it does work, and consistently, *but* if left for a bit, it stops again.
Repeat ad infinitum.
Is there a way to fix this without replacing the keyboard?
I'd rather not void my warranty by replacing it myself, and also I would rather not send it back to the supplier as this is my daily work machine.

Well, I took the plunge and re-gooed the heatsinks to see if it would make anydifference to the temps I was seeing.
Turns out it does. Where I was getting to 90-93 on a full load, and it would reach those temps fairly quickly (2 minutes)
Afterwards, I'm seeing it get to perhaps 80ish (celcius), and it takes a very long time for it to creep up to perhaps 87.
Keep in mind this is on a full load too.
All the above does have some relevance
Once I put the whole kit and kaboodle back together, the keypad '6' seemed to work correctly.
Which is when I remembered that the keyboard ribbon cable seemed to be slightly off center and in the connector on a very slight angle.
This I remember because it was bloody hard trying to line it up centered.
As you look at it, it's off to the left a millimeter or so, and tilted to the right to fit it in.
Do you think this would have been the cause of the problem?
Or perhaps it could have been caused by a screw contacting or pushing something? (An old laptop had this problem)
Just tested it again this morning, after 12 hours. Still working, but I think a keypress or two might have been missed. I'll check it again in a few hours.

Yoga 2 Pro keyboard light

Hi,
I have a Yoga 2 Pro for just a few days.
I noticed that the keyboard light is not workiing properly.
Sometimes it lights up, sometimes it does not.
Sometimes I can turn it on and off (fn + left space), sometimes I cannot.
Once it came on by itself, but when I pressed a key - a letter key - it turned off and I could not light it up again.
I noticed that when it does not work, if I change mode (from laptop to tent or tablet and back to laptop) most of the times I am able to take it on.
I am guessing this is a hardware problem.
Am I right?
Is there anything I can do to make sure it is a h/w failure before getting it to a service center?

Keyboard lights will not stay off no matter what I do on my MacBook Pro. Why??

I've got a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo.
I have ALWAYS left the keyboard lights off for the 4 years I have had it.
But lately, no matter what settings I change or what I try, I cannot PREVENT the keyboard lights from coming on when I've been away from the computer for a long period of time.
Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light is NOT checked in System Prefs. I have reset the PRAM, and left the laptop off with the battery off for hours in hopes of resetting it.
Nothing will work. Almost every time I am away from my computer for hours, I come back and the keyboard lights are on. And when I tap the keyboard light brightness buttons, it just gives me the buster symbol (white circle with a line through it) on screen below the keyboard light brightness indicator for a few seconds. Somehow continuing to tap those buttons eventually makes the lights just turn off. Or holding my hands over the whole keyboard to trigger the sensor can suddenly allow me to control the on/off brightness with those buttons again. In which case I try turning the lights off completely or turning the brightness so low that it goes off.
But once again, when I wake up in the morning, I find the keyboard lights on.
Now the ONLY thing that has changed since this started happening is that I added a new User account. BUT that should asbolutely not cause this problem. I have checked to see if the System Preferences for the keyboard lights in the new user account were causing a conflict, but no, they are exactly the same as my main account.
I have not tried deleting the user account yet because I actually want it and would find it very hard to believe that was the culprit. It's just the only thing I can think of that changed shortly before this started happening.
Is there anything else I can do!?! Is there some preference file that controls the lights somewhere that could be corrupt that I need to trash?

From reading up of other forums with the same problem i have come up with two reasons why it is doing that.
first try doing a smc reset
if that does not work then it is a hardware error. Many people have had the problem and they have not been able to fix it so good luck

Problem with Battery and Keyboard Light

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong section. This is my first time on these forums.
Just today I was skyping my girlfriend on my Macbook Pro (that I got in the summer or 2010). I have SmcFanControl installed and I regularly use it to monitor/increase my fan speed. As I regularly skype and play WoW on this computer, my computer temp often sits around 160-170 degrees F.
Today it was at around 170 and I had it on my lap. I sat up and jostled the computer a little and it shut off. The power cord light, which was green, immediately turned off. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in and it stayed off. The computer wouldnt restart for about 30 seconds. Finally after hitting the power button several times it turned on.
It worked fine for 10 or so minutes. I assumed I just moved it too suddenly, although I have never had a problem with that before. Then, I moved again and it shut off AGAIN. It took another 30 seconds to register the power cord and to turn on.
This time, when it booted up, it said my clock was set to a date before 2008, althought it was still at Feb 16, 2011. Also, as soon as I turned it on, the fans were going full speed (as loud as when i have SmcFanControl set at 6200 rpm). I opened SmcFancontrol and it says my computer's temp is at 32 Degrees F and 000 rpm, which I know is not correct. I can't change the speed of the fans and the temp of the computer hasnt changed at all.
Also, my battery icon has an X through it and says "No batteries available" "Power Source: Power Adapter." The green light is very dim on the charger.
AND on top of this, my keyboard lights no longer turn on, even pushing F5 and F6. I am in a dim room so they should auto turn on.
I am afraid that I may have overheated the computer, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice. I was thinking of opening the back up but I dont have a small enough screwdriver at the momment. I also tried doing the "top -u -s3" command to check cpu% and my highest one is Firefox around 10-15%.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking this is gonna require a look at the Apple Store, however I am an out of state college student and I'm not returning home for another week and I need my computer for assignments.

SMC reset works best with anything that relies on power for the machine. When it comes to batteries SMC reset and PRAM usually do the trick. Also a lot of people miss this, do not plug on the top plugs use the lower plug.
As for the temperature on the lap, expect a lot of heat, the computers are designed to lay on flat SOLID surfaces. The underbelly on aluminum chassis laptops act as a heatsink. In addition the rubber feet keep the product high enough so air can pass through and help cool the system.
As far as the adapter you can have AppleCare send you without waiting a week for it. If it is an obvious hardware problem they may do an exception for you if you are out of phone support. Highly recommend APP for the phone support. You would have a battery on it's way to your current location in a couple days!

You probably should have addressed this issue when you originally noticed it. If you have Apple care, then you still can have this rectified under the warranty provisions.

@kiki1871: This would be the last option I would take. I cloned the HDD before replacing it to avoid the whole OSX installation & backup procedure. I wonder if I could download the driver and install it now. Any hint wherefrom I can get it?
