GS70 Stealth Noob Question. Help?

I kinda have a noobish question. It has to do with the GS70 Stealth. So my laptop is old and I decided to buy a new one. I cam by an offer at this computer store close to me.
Heres the offer
 http://www.mediamarkt.at/mcs/product/MSI-MSI-GS70---Gaming-Notebook,10255,252053,1051161.html
A little bit pricey, but oh well. So I'm not that much of a gamer, but I do usually play bf4 or bop2 or cod ghosts. Running them in medium graphics works for me. So I saw the GS70 has a GTX 765M, which is said to run games i stated above fine at High Graphics. Then I notice it was the core i7 with the clock speed of 2.4 Ghz.
Now, back to my noobish question, The offer nor the MSI official website say anything about "Intel Turbo Boost"
So my question is: Does the GS70's processor have Turbo Boost? OR has it been disabled by MSI ( if it can ). OR did they just not state it at all.

It has Turbo Boost. It just doesn't say it on the webpage.

  • GS70 Stealth Pro Questions??

    Hi All,
      The time has come for me to buy a new laptop and I'm strongly considering the GS70 Stealth Pro as a very strong contender.  I have some questions though before I make a decision.   I understand that it get's rather hot and I'm concerned about that.   Would these hot temperatures shorten the lifespan of the computer significantly?   I'm the kind of guy that likes to get at least 4-5 years out of my computers.   I mainly just do some photoshop and lightroom retouching of photos play a few games like War Thunder, World of Tanks, and World of Warplanes and do a lot of work in Visual Studio(no VMs) so I don't need a lot of power, but I do need a good bit.  What are your impressions of this pc?  Any assistance y'all can provide me would be greatly appreciated.

    I own a GS70-2PE laptop and yes it can get hot all gaming laptops get hot no mather what, execpt for desktops ones they usually are alot cooler since it's like 10 times bigger and alot of room and have bigger fans keeping it cool while laptops only have 1-2 fans but this gs70 has 2 fans 1 for intel cpu and 1 for nvidia gpu so both have 2 heat pipes each instead of sharing with 1 fan so it shouldnt be a problem with life span on it when it gets around 70-80 c as long it does not reach max limit but if it does laptop will automaticly shutdown straight away to prevent damages.

  • GS70 Stealth Owner needing help

    Ok so I didnt see anything posted about this in any previous posts (maybe im blind). But i have been having alot of internet problems with this laptop, i have a ping of 40, download speed of 50 and upload of 3 on my desktop. When i am on this laptop it seems to drop significantly. Also when i watch stuff like Twitch.tv it seems to stutter on my laptop but not on my desktop. It also seems very slow for a laptop with the specs that it has.
    Granted I dont know very much about computers, and I purchased this laptop because of MSI's excellent name and product reviews.
    If i could get some help that would be awesome
    This laptop is by no means bad it is just i am having problems with it because i dont know what to do.
    I would appreciate some help, i tried downloading all the drivers but some of them didnt work.

    Could be a router issue.  You may need to reboot the router to get good download speeds.  The download speeds are faster.  I also own a Samsung Chronos7 17 Inch, and I was getting maybe 2MB a second download speeds on Steam.  On the GS70, that shot up to 5 MB a second.  So there is a speed difference.

  • IChat Video noob question- Help!

    Hi, I've scoured this forum for answers and I just can't find anything (maybe my question is just too asinine).
    So, my stuff:
    I have both an AIM and my Google talk accounts set up on iChat 4.
    On my home network there is a PC and this macbook Pro (Leopard 10.5.3) connecting to a Linksys Wireless-B router model BEFW11S4 v.4. DHCP is set to "Disable".
    I run Peerguardian but have allowed every port that iChat has requested.
    Oh, and I have Comcast (just typing that is painful).
    The PROBLEM:
    I'm trying to video chat with a friend who is running Tiger on an iMac and has iChat 3. He is connected directly to the internet. When I log in to either account or both there is no option for video chat(that is, the video, phone and share screen icons are blacked out) by either of his names, in AIM or Jabber. No option to invite for video chat.
    Only one of my Jabber buddies has this option not blacked out in the buddy list.
    I'm assuming there is something wrong on his end, but we both walked through our settings over the phone.
    Is this his problem, my problem, BOTH of our problems?

    At both ends the Item that says Camera Enabled and Microphone Enabled in the Video menu of iChat should both be ticked.
    In the View menu the Show Status items for both Video and Audio need to to be ticked.
    Can you confirm those first please.

  • GS70 Stealth Pro 2QE Crimson Red Edition Questions

    Hello all!
       Well I'm looking to get myself a belated birthday present(was waiting on my tax return money) and am looking at the GS70 Stealth Pro-096 Crimson Red model and I have some questions for those of you that own the Crimson Red edition models and some questions as far as the Stealth Pro models in general.   My current system is a GE70 with 12GB DDR3, 1 TB Samsung SSHD drive(my own install) and a Crucial M500 120GB MSata drive running Windows 8.1.   I like to play several games like World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, and World of Warships(currently one of the beta-testers), but I also use the laptop for various Windows/Windows Phone app development and testing and I also use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to edit my personal photography and design the images I need for my apps as well as play around with a few things.   While this laptop is decent and holding it's own at doing all of those things, it's definitely not a master at anyone of those things as I average 35fps in WOT and it's not necessarily the best development machine.   What I'm wanting to do is take my gaming and my graphics/photography work and do that on the Stealth Pro and make the GE70 my development only machine, but I have some questions prior to pulling the trigger on this purchase.   As I will still use both for any email, office documents, music, and general everyday computing activity(browsing the web) as well.
    1.   Does the crimson red finish act as a fingerprint magnet?
    2.   Has anyone had any issues with running Lightroom and Photoshop on their GS70?
    3.   Has anyone had any issues with the screen arriving with 1 or more dead pixels on their GS70 that MSI refused to fix?
    I'm sure I have more questions but those are the only ones that I can think of at this point.   Any and all feedback and assistance y'all can offer me will be greatly appreciated.
    CGD

    I don't have crimson red GS70, but I have a normal one.
    So I can't answer the question 1.
    However, as for question 2, it's definitely no problem because I'm always using PS on a GS70 sample, but I never used Lightroom.
    And as for question 3, you can refer to this webpage: http://www.msi.com/page/NB_LCDPanel/

  • MSI GS70 Stealth Pro - mSATA Question.

    Hi there
    I am interested in buying this machine. Collecting some information before I do that.
    This machine seems to have 2 or 3 mSATA slots.
    Questions:
          1) Can I use my own mSATA drives in these slots OR the drives in these slots fixed from OEM?
          2) Does any one know what's the maximum capacity of these mSATA slots? is It 128GB, 256GB or 512GB?
    Thank you.

    There are three mSATA slots.
    http://dragonarmy.msi.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64976#.U_7AAMWSwuE
    1. Think you should be fine as long as you have the mSATA interface SSD.
    (Safer way is to ask MSI for the tested SSD lists to avoid compatibility issue.)
    2. From the website, it should be 256GB.
    (Try to google around if there are people who talks about 512GB on GS70 Stealth Pro)

    It should be on the right side along with the card reader slot and USB ports, between the power connector and ventilation slots.

  • [GS70 Stealth Pro] RAID 0 Volatile Volume Cache Mode configuration

    I discovered that in IRST there is an option to set a cache mode for my 3 ssd raid 0 array.
    I've read the documentation by Intel and have some questions:
    Are there any overall benefits/risks from enabling cache mode?
    As I'm on a laptop, would write back be recommended? I read it increases chance of data loss on power interruption. What is the difference between how windows handles data integrity and the intel driver?
    Read only mode seems to have the benefit of faster reads, does it have any downsides?
    Thanks for your help guys!

    I just recently acquired a GS70 Stealth Pro, which came with only 1 128gb msata ssd. i picked up two more, put them in, for a total of 3 128gb ssd's, and have since enabled raid 0. upon doing so (and restoring an image i took with acronis) my laptop will now boot directly to BIOS when UEFI boot is on. If i change it to Legacy, the laptop boots fine, first to intel rapid storage, then to the OS. r/w speeds are around 1k and 500, and everything says that the raid volume is enabled. is there an issue with being on legacy instead of UEFI? and what exactly is the difference?
    It seems like your system is installed under Legacy mode which doesn't allow you to boot up under UEFI mode.
    You'll need to re-install the system under UEFI mode to do so. I'd suggest to use the MSI BurnRecovery to create the Recovery disks and recover the system under UEFI mode.
    People share that the most obvious difference between Win8 Legacy and Win8 UEFI is the boot up time, but I've never tried it on the GS70 model.

  • Noob Needs Help - Importing Html Pages into "My Site"

    Greetings
    I am sure this is a noob question that may have been asked, but I couldn't find it by searching so here goes.
    I jumped right into Dream Weaver, following an online tutorial... and have a decent webpage but I must have skipped some steps or missed something and I would hate to backtrack and do it all over again...
    When I began, I just started working on a HTML page... and now that its done, I want to make it a template etc...
    But I never created a "site" as far as SITE > NEW SITE etc.
    So now that I have, I need to tell DW that "These pages are included... these images are included, all that neat SPRY stuff I have done needs to be "in the site".
    I am looking for a button that says, "Hey dummy, you need to select the pages that are included in your site" but can't find it...
    Any help?
    Thanks, in Advance

  • Another Noobie question - readLine()

    Hi all
    This is another one of the extreme noob questions. I wrote a small program to read form a text file
        String NetworkLine = new String();
        try{
            FileReader inputFile = new FileReader("Test.txt");  //
            BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(inputFile);
           try{
               while (in.readLine() != null){
                NetworkLine = in.readLine();
                System.out.println(NetworkLine);
           }catch (IOException e){
                System.err.println("Error in reading the file");
        }catch (FileNotFoundException e){
            e.printStackTrace();
        }My Test.txt is
    One
    Two
    Three
    Four
    Five
    Six
    without the *
    The output I get is
    Two
    Four
    Six
    I cannot figure out why only even no. lines are being read. I inserted a breakpoint at the line
              System.out.println(NetworkLine);This shows me that only even no. lines are being read by readLine(). Any help will be appreaciated.
    Thanks
    Ayesha

        String NetworkLine = new String();
        try{
            FileReader inputFile = new FileReader("Test.txt");  //
            BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(inputFile);
           try{
               while (in.readLine() != null){  // <-- This reads a line, checks it for null ,and drops it
                NetworkLine = in.readLine(); // <-- this reads the next line
                System.out.println(NetworkLine);
           }catch (IOException e){
                System.err.println("Error in reading the file");
        }catch (FileNotFoundException e){
            e.printStackTrace();
        }So the upshot is that you print every other line.
    Corrected:
        String networkLine = new String();
        try{
            FileReader inputFile = new FileReader("Test.txt");  //
            BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(inputFile);
           try{
               while ((networkLine = in.readLine()) != null){
                System.out.println(networkLine);
           }catch (IOException e){
                System.err.println("Error in reading the file");
        }catch (FileNotFoundException e){
            e.printStackTrace();
        }

  • Noob questions...windows emulation on mac OS 10.4

    getting my ibook later this week and was wondering about windows emulation. i don't have an intel processor in my ibook (obviously), so what's your recommendation for a product that runs windows on a mac? and, total noob question, do i have to buy a copy of windows? i already have windows on my dell laptop.
    thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello,
    so, do the new macbooks have some kind of software
    pre-installed that runs windows? my friends who just
    got a macbook tells me he can run windows programs if
    he needs to.
    The MacBooks have Intel processors in them. So, no emulation is necessary. They can directly install and run Windows if they want.
    The reason you need a program like Virtual PC on an iBook is because it uses a PowerPC processor which Windows cannot communicate with. And, the PowerPC Mac's architecture is completely different.
    So, that means you need a program like Virtual PC to completely emulate an entire PC computer. Basically, it is a program that simulates a real computer and then translates those Intel instructions into PowerPC instructions that your iBook can understand.
    There is a severe performance penalty for all this translation. The iBook G4 will not perform like a regular Windows PC. It will be much slower, and you will need to be more patient. With a G4 iBook, you could reasonably expect your performance to be comparable to a 300 MHz PC running Windows XP.
    With a 1.8 GHz iMac G5 and 2 GB of RAM, I was experiencing performance comparable to a 1.3 GHz Intel Celeron system with 256 MB of RAM (which I happened to have around for comparison).
    But, for more intensive tasks, the performance was more comparable to a 500 MHz system.
    Anyway, back to the Intel Macs. Those machine's only need a free Apple Utility "Boot Camp" to provide the drivers and create a Windows compatible boot partition:
    http://www.apple.com/bootcamp/
    And, then they need Windows XP Home or Pro. That's it.
    With programs like Parallels, they can run Windows inside the Mac OS (or along side it) much like you would with Virtual PC:
    http://www.parallels.com/en/products/workstation/mac/
    i am trying to figure out where this might be useful
    in the first place.
    It is useful if you need to be able to run Windows software, but don't want to buy a PC. It's more convenient to have one machine that can do everything than it is to have a Mac and a separate PC.
    Feel free to ask additional questions if you have them. Or, if you like, hit solved on the post if you feel everything is answered.
    But, do let me know if I can answer any additional questions or need to re-state something clearer.

  • GS70 Stealth - grainy screen?

    Hi,
    I just received my new GS70 Stealth and, while I love everything about it, I can't help but notice that the screen is very grainy or dirty. I know this is the nature of most matte screens but I would like to make sure if it's normal in the MSI GS70? The graininess is mostly visible on white surfaces. Also, if it's normal, is there anything I can do to "tweak" it? I admit I'm still in the process of installing drivers etc. Haven't done any calibration yet, so I suppose that might help?
    Adam

    I don't know. I'm not sure how to describe it. It looks like there's a film of water over the display. The "white" surface is slightly "rainbowy". It's subtle, but kinda irritating. Apart from this, or maybe because of this, the screen seems to be causing a lot of eye strain to me. The text seems kinda not sharp. Might be because I switched to Windows 8 also, I suppose.
    Also, my space key is squeaking horribly -_- I have until monday to return the laptop or take a replacement. Any suggestions?

  • Noob Question Re: Encoding to DVD

    This is my first post in the adobe forums , so hello all!
    I've been trolling this, and numerous other sites, hoping to understand the basic process of editing -> CD creation.
    So here it begins...I am working on "work-out" video tape. The footage was shot using a Canon H10 to removable memory card. All files are .MTS, which don't pose too many challenges for my computer (i7 processor w/ 6MB memory) after the most recent PP update. Editing, adding AE, titles, graphics, or using Sound Booth is relatively painless. I have a total of (4) timelines that comprise the total video (Trailer, Intro, Instructions, and Workout). As I edited the video I'd often render what I had testing formats such as avi, MPEG2, FLV/4, Blu-Ray H.264, etc. I was amazed with the clarity and sharpness as I stayed with in the confines of 1980x1020. So I have no problems there. Once the editing, I first created a blank timeline and pulled into it the other timelines to make on timeline called "Video Complete". I dynamic linked that timeline to Encore and found out that amount of data, in that format, created a very unstable Encore - it screamed and hollered about running out of memory, etc. I watched several tutorials and found that dynamic linking the indvidual timelines gave me a much more stable Encore.
    So I had the untranscoded .MTS files in Encore. I created my menu, linking the timelines, etc and built my project using the standard 720x480 (I believe) format. To say the least, I wasn't at all happy with the final product when watched on the television. Very pixalated/jagged around letters, etc.
    I don't mind shopping around for the correct answer or putting my time in on research, I'd just like to know if I am on the right playing field and/or headed in the right direction.
    So basically my questions are:
    1) Is dynamic linking .MTS files to Encore the correct approach as opposed to rendering the .MTS files in PPro to avi or MPEG2 before bringing them into the Encore project? (Based on wanting the best DVD quality possible)
    2) Transcoding settings for individual timelines should remain on automatic or should I adjust them and transcode before clicking on build project?
    3) Since I was able to see MPGE2 renderings (from PPro) on my computer screen as sharp and clear, should I expect the same quality from a DVD product?
    Any information would be helpful - thanks so much.
    Joe

    Re: Noob Question Re: Encoding to DVD
    Hi, great questions:
    I think this is a sound approach. MTS is short for MPEG-2 Transport Stream, so it's already MPEG-2 but will of course have to be re-transcoded for DVD to standard definition. If you want to experiment with high definition, you could try stripping the streams out of the MTS using a third party tool such as what you might find at videohelp.com - or not. Less transcoding is always better, but may not be practical. There's probably little advantage to doing this on the DVD side, but it might be worthwhile for Blu-ray? Or not.
    First, try using Interpret Footage on the asset (the MTS file itself) - set it to SD Widescreen. You may need to Revert to Original if it's already transcoded. Try building another DVD and check the footage.
    For the most part, yes. Of course, they will be standard definition on DVD.
    Message was edited by: jbowden
    Jbowden,
    Thanks for the response. I will check out "Interpret Footage" on the asset of the MTS file and toggle to SD Widescreen. Will do that tonight so I can compare the two for quality.

  • SSD and HDD? Noob questions

    Hi, I've just purchased a reconditioned Thinkpad W540, spec is Lenovo ThinkPad W540 16GB, 256GB SSD, i7-4800MQ 2.7Ghz, 20BHS1DJ00. Noob question, because I've not owned a SSD before, can I install a normal hard drive as well? There are 1TB external drives going for around $70. I've just noticed these hard drive caddys - should I be using one of these? Are all HDD SATA II or III these days? Could I use this drive :  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1TB-HDD-HARD-DRIVE-FOR-LENOVO-THINKPAD-W540-Quad-Core-L430-L440-L540-S540-/321439122240?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 With this caddy: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nimitz-2nd-SATA-HDD-Caddy-for-Lenovo-Thinkpad-T440p-T540p-W540-/121509644281?hash=item1c4a8a07f9 Second question - what is the recommendation regarding installing software. Should I put it all on the SSD or on the new hard drive? I'll be using the Adobe suite so there's the whole scratch disks issue to get my head around. Thirdly, how do I prove my copy of Windows 8 is genuine and is there a backup of it sitting on my harddrive somewhere? I didn't receive a W8 disk. Thanks in advance for your help.

    1) SATA versions are cross-compatible with each other, so you should be fine regardless of which SATA it is.
    HDDs are also standard parts and aren't tied to a specific system. You can use anything that's 9.5mm thick and 2.5" diagonal. (Excluding WD VelociRaptors.)
    The caddy should work fine. Functionally, they're just a glorified cable. Third-party caddies may have a different fit and finish from the rest of the chassis, though.
    2) Depending on how much software you have, you'll want to choose the ones you use often and put those on the SSD. Ideally, none of the software you want to use while on battery should be on the HDD (avoids the HDD spinning up, thus draining battery).
    As for Adobe and it's scratch disks, I'd provision a bit of the faster SSD at the risk of wearing it out sooner. The speed helps especially if your workload is heavy. Ideally, you would have enough RAM to never need to page to scratch disks.
    3) The Windows 8 key is sitting in the BIOS. The installer should pick it up automatically.
