GS70 Stealth Pro Questions??

Hi All,
The time has come for me to buy a new laptop and I'm strongly considering the GS70 Stealth Pro as a very strong contender.  I have some questions though before I make a decision.   I understand that it get's rather hot and I'm concerned about that.   Would these hot temperatures shorten the lifespan of the computer significantly?   I'm the kind of guy that likes to get at least 4-5 years out of my computers.   I mainly just do some photoshop and lightroom retouching of photos play a few games like War Thunder, World of Tanks, and World of Warplanes and do a lot of work in Visual Studio(no VMs) so I don't need a lot of power, but I do need a good bit.  What are your impressions of this pc?  Any assistance y'all can provide me would be greatly appreciated.

I own a GS70-2PE laptop and yes it can get hot all gaming laptops get hot no mather what, execpt for desktops ones they usually are alot cooler since it's like 10 times bigger and alot of room and have bigger fans keeping it cool while laptops only have 1-2 fans but this gs70 has 2 fans 1 for intel cpu and 1 for nvidia gpu so both have 2 heat pipes each instead of sharing with 1 fan so it shouldnt be a problem with life span on it when it gets around 70-80 c as long it does not reach max limit but if it does laptop will automaticly shutdown straight away to prevent damages.

  • GS70 Stealth Pro 2QE Crimson Red Edition Questions

    Hello all!
Well I'm looking to get myself a belated birthday present(was waiting on my tax return money) and am looking at the GS70 Stealth Pro-096 Crimson Red model and I have some questions for those of you that own the Crimson Red edition models and some questions as far as the Stealth Pro models in general.   My current system is a GE70 with 12GB DDR3, 1 TB Samsung SSHD drive(my own install) and a Crucial M500 120GB MSata drive running Windows 8.1.   I like to play several games like World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, and World of Warships(currently one of the beta-testers), but I also use the laptop for various Windows/Windows Phone app development and testing and I also use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to edit my personal photography and design the images I need for my apps as well as play around with a few things.   While this laptop is decent and holding it's own at doing all of those things, it's definitely not a master at anyone of those things as I average 35fps in WOT and it's not necessarily the best development machine.   What I'm wanting to do is take my gaming and my graphics/photography work and do that on the Stealth Pro and make the GE70 my development only machine, but I have some questions prior to pulling the trigger on this purchase.   As I will still use both for any email, office documents, music, and general everyday computing activity(browsing the web) as well.
    1.   Does the crimson red finish act as a fingerprint magnet?
    2.   Has anyone had any issues with running Lightroom and Photoshop on their GS70?
    3.   Has anyone had any issues with the screen arriving with 1 or more dead pixels on their GS70 that MSI refused to fix?
I'm sure I have more questions but those are the only ones that I can think of at this point.   Any and all feedback and assistance y'all can offer me will be greatly appreciated.

    I don't have crimson red GS70, but I have a normal one.
    So I can't answer the question 1.
However, as for question 2, it's definitely no problem because I'm always using PS on a GS70 sample, but I never used Lightroom.
And as for question 3, you can refer to this webpage: http://www.msi.com/page/NB_LCDPanel/

  • MSI GS70 Stealth Pro - mSATA Question.

    Hi there
I am interested in buying this machine. Collecting some information before I do that.
This machine seems to have 2 or 3 mSATA slots.
    Questions:
          1) Can I use my own mSATA drives in these slots OR the drives in these slots fixed from OEM?
          2) Does any one know what's the maximum capacity of these mSATA slots? is It 128GB, 256GB or 512GB?
    Thank you.

    There are three mSATA slots.
    http://dragonarmy.msi.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64976#.U_7AAMWSwuE
    1. Think you should be fine as long as you have the mSATA interface SSD.
(Safer way is to ask MSI for the tested SSD lists to avoid compatibility issue.)
    2. From the website, it should be 256GB.
(Try to google around if there are people who talks about 512GB on GS70 Stealth Pro)

Does the GS70 Stealth Pro-099 work with Kensington Locks (Does it have the Security Slot)?

It should be on the right side along with the card reader slot and USB ports, between the power connector and ventilation slots.
Thanks! I just wanted to be sure before purchasing one of the locks.

  • [GS70 Stealth Pro] RAID 0 Volatile Volume Cache Mode configuration

I discovered that in IRST there is an option to set a cache mode for my 3 ssd raid 0 array.
I've read the documentation by Intel and have some questions:
Are there any overall benefits/risks from enabling cache mode?
As I'm on a laptop, would write back be recommended? I read it increases chance of data loss on power interruption. What is the difference between how windows handles data integrity and the intel driver?
Read only mode seems to have the benefit of faster reads, does it have any downsides?
    Thanks for your help guys!

I just recently acquired a GS70 Stealth Pro, which came with only 1 128gb msata ssd. i picked up two more, put them in, for a total of 3 128gb ssd's, and have since enabled raid 0. upon doing so (and restoring an image i took with acronis) my laptop will now boot directly to BIOS when UEFI boot is on. If i change it to Legacy, the laptop boots fine, first to intel rapid storage, then to the OS. r/w speeds are around 1k and 500, and everything says that the raid volume is enabled. is there an issue with being on legacy instead of UEFI? and what exactly is the difference?
It seems like your system is installed under Legacy mode which doesn't allow you to boot up under UEFI mode.
You'll need to re-install the system under UEFI mode to do so. I'd suggest to use the MSI BurnRecovery to create the Recovery disks and recover the system under UEFI mode.
People share that the most obvious difference between Win8 Legacy and Win8 UEFI is the boot up time, but I've never tried it on the GS70 model.

  • MSI GS70 Stealth Pro 17, Nvidia Settings won't SAVE

Hello, I bought new MSI GS70 Stealth Pro without windows.
I Installed Windows 8.1 (Original ), than I downloaded drivers from MSI website, and GeForce Experience from Nvidia site, It installed automatically driver 340.52. It strange that on msi site recommended driver is "332.38".
And I have one problem, when I play, use laptop, it doesn't use Nvidia Graphic Card as recommended.
When I go to Nvidia Control Panel, Global Settings> And I change to use automatically Nvidia Card, instead of Intel Integrated> than I click Apply, Control Panel get stuck for 2 sec, Not respondig for 1 sec, and return. Now it shows Nvidia Card as recommended, and when I close Nvidia Control Panel, and Open it again, it shows Intel Integrated as recommend, So why it Doesn't remember the settings. Anybody knows the issue? It's annoying in gaming laptop with GTX870 I can't use it.

I still have problem with Watch Dogs, The game is not using the nVidia graphic card, always when I close the game and open it again, it forgets its settings. What should I do?
Try to downgrade the graphics driver and see if the issue still remains.

  • How important to update Bios, firmware, driver, utility etc for GS70 Stealth PRO?

I want to ask how important to update gpu bios, cpu bios, firmware and etc for my GS70 Stealth pro ?
I never update any of it from February when i purchased this Stealth pro because Im afraid  wrong and  make my Stealth pro broken.
Thanks for attention and sorry for bad english

um you cannot update anything inside cpu but you can update bios and firmware for touchpad and such but for bios you shall never update it unless you occure any bios issues where it does not behave propertly then you can update bios but other wise you shall not since some people do it and bam they would kill laptop since they accidentely flashed wrong bios for wrong laptop or so thats why bios is risky to update when you dont know how to and that you shall not do it even laptop is runing fine on it's current bios.

  • Slow boot after format on GS70 Stealth Pro

    Hi,
i reinstalled Windows 8.1 and now the boot time is notoriulsy longer, from almost instantaneously to 5-6 seconds. I know isn't too long, but annoyed me coming from 1-2 seconds.
Fast Boot is activated in Bios and same for fast startup in Windows...
All drivers, SCM and firmwares are updated.
    Any ideas?
    thx
    GS70 Stealth Pro
    2x128gb ssd Raid from Factory.

actually fast boot is not cache system but windows 8/8.1 has support for fast boot which means it doesent take long to load but if laptop powers it self off after a while when it has been in sleep mode then it goes into mode where it cache your data in RAM or something so when you power laptop back on it will say Please wait. or Resuming Windows. thats when cache system was used but if you power laptop 100% off then it does not cache anything.

  • [Solved] Msi Gs70 Stealth Pro Issues

Hello, i'm running the gs70 Stealth pro.  Everyone probably knows the specs already as they are listed on the site.
I was expecting to run pretty smoothly through most of the games but i tend to lag even on games that don't require that much intensity.
I will play games like "Sir, you are being hunted" and i still get about 15-19 fps on medium/high settings.  This game shouldn't even be a problem for the laptop, but its way too hard to play that game under these circumstances.
Games like "Planetside 2" lag pretty bad as well.  I'll get a solid 45 fps on low setting, and on high settings (not even ultra) the game lags too the point of unplayable.
Weird things will happen where it says something about the display driver failing, but it fixes itself.  This will happen at random times and is rather irritation.
I've updated my graphics card, and everything else.
    What could be the problem??
Thank you, i really enjoy this laptop, but at this rate.  It wasn't worth 1900 for; i wouldn't even pay 1000 for this to be honest.  I don't really wan't to send it back, i like the way it is.  Please help me.

Try to update the VBIOS from the website.

  • Network Adapter not connected to the computer. (GS70 Stealth Pro 2PE)

    Hi guys, please help me.
I'm currently using a GS70 Stealth Pro 2PE. I am currently trying all means to fix my WiFi card, the Dual Band AC 7260. This has happened twice already, during the first time, I could not use WiFi at all as it says it is not connected to the computer, but after waiting for approximately for a day, it fixed itself. Which was surprisingly weird. However, it happened again after 4 months, this time, there is no way to fix it, i tried resetting the BIOS, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, updating it by my Ethernet cable- which it always says its up to date.....
I am really at a loss now.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, i have tried uninstalling the adapter and installing the one available from intel which is the wireless/proset thing. But after installing it i do not see any driver in the device manager. Only the ethernet controller is only available in the network adapter list. So it is pretty weird as in the intel website, it states that it is the driver package, but after installing it seems like a software to manage wifi or bluetooth.

  • GS70 Stealth Pro slightly chipped body near screen

Hi guys, I'm just wondering if any of you GS70 Stealth Pro users out there can help me with this problem or if any of you have experienced similar which would probably be more helpful and advise what to do!

So as the title showed, my GT70 2OC cannot launch any game for some reason. (I've launched League of Legends, Dota 2, Core Master, Fifa Online 3 and CS GO, all those game cannot be launch.)I don't know why my laptop can't run any game, whichever game I...

  • GS70 Stealth Pro-212 GPU Memory

I recently purchased a MSI GS70 Stealth Pro-212 from THIS Amazon listing. In the listing it says that laptop has 6GB of "Graphics Card Memory", yet all my tests keep saying it has 2GB.
I understand that there is a integrated Intel GPU and a dedicated NVIDIA GPU. I am referencing only to the NVIDIA GPU. All other specifications match perfectly. Am I just missing something?

Yah, the other programs must be reading it incorrectly. GPU-Z Shows the full 6GB.

  • Would the GS70 Stealth Pro-24 be good for a Mechanical Engineering student?

I will be attending college in the fall with the intention of studying mechanical engineering. I am looking for a good laptop and I was told to find something with a dedicated graphics card. The Stealth Pros seem like they could handle 3D design and other engineering software pretty well. Can anyone with an engineering background give me any advice? Thanks.

Hey CBerger02, I am an PLC programmer in which have a 4 year degree in elctro/mechanical technician and am 2 years away from my masters in electro/mechanical engineering. So I think I could answer your question right quick.
If you want something that's going to be the best for what you need, its really dependent of the software you going to be using. If its straight autocad and maya, you'd be better off with the msi workstation, gt60 with quadro 4100 gpu and 3k screen.
If you want something that will be all around good for most programs, not great in any specific but good in pretty much every one, then the gt70 with 880m 8gb gpu and intel i7 4810/4900. **This is the one I have, its the gt70 dominator pro 890.**
If your willing to sacrifice some rendering time, but add slim and easier on the portability side, then yes, the gs70 ghost pro would be  a great option. It will run slightly warmer, and fans will be louder while maxing it out. But it offers superb specs for the space and weight provided.
Just make sure with the pro, that you get the x2 msata option or add your own. Most programs and rendering sessions will be cut into 20% of the time if you can read from and write to a ssd vs mechanical. But don't allow raid on the drives, just use the 2 msata as 2 individual drives. So youll have like c:/ d:/ with msata and then e:/ will be your mechanical.
Also the 870m will provide the best times for rendering sessions. Wont take away much battery as the 860m in the msi's is the keplar not Maxwell. But the extra cores/shaders/vram will help you out.
