GSM and EGSM

Dear Posters and Readers,
I am planning to buy the N900 from the USA to use it there eventually, but I will be traveling to Lebanon (Middle-east) during the holidays and I am going to buy a new SIM once I get there for it is much cheaper than roaming.
Now I read the specs on N900's page, and I read the network specs of the providers in Lebanon, the thing is that N900 supports "E"GSM on all bands 850/900/1800/1900 and providers in Lebanon broadcast on GSM 850/1800.
My dilemma is, will the N900 connect in Lebanon looking that it supports EGSM ?
Is EGSM backward compatible ?
I asked Alfa and MTC (the 2 providers in Lebanon) about that, Alfa peeps said it was okay and it's going to work just fine, but MTC peeps said it won't work. Then I said i'd ask the official resellers of Nokia in Lebanon (there were 2 of them a month ago, now they're three, so I decided to ask the oldest 2), MeaTel peeps said it won't work, FCC peeps said it's going to work just fine.
So which one is it ? Should I worry about this or not ?
Any ideas are appreciated.

E-GSM stands for Extended GSM. As the name suggests, it is an extended version of GSM in terms of the frequency bands supported. The underlying technology remains the same.
Therefore, your N900 will work just fine in Lebanon. There's no need to worry.
Cheers,

    Dear All,
    I have N73 ME.
    Firmware: V 4.0812.4.2.1
I am using Vodafone Line and I am living in egypt.
I have a problem with the network of the device. The device is working fine only with the Network Mode UMTS, but not working with GSM and Dual Mode, which makes it doesnot have network signal  in many areas, while I have another Nokia 5200 phone whick works fine in these areas.
Is it a Software or Hardware problem?
and what is the solution for it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If it's still asking for the seller's Apple ID and password, then he most likely did not actually remove the iPhone from iCloud. If the problem persists, return the iPhone and get your money back. The seller can figure out the problem and resell the iPhone later.

  • Record GSM and ADPCM in wav files

    Hello,
is there any way to record .wav files using GSM and ADPCM format(tritonus implementation for example). I need to record .wav files in this formats and send then through a network to another computer.
Is somebody has a code example please, post it or send me it to my e-mail:
    [email protected]

why these files don't work in iTunes 5. Perhaps there is a bug in iTunes?
    A bug or a new "feature". ;-)>
The problem is unique to iTunes 5, as I said - I had no problems with any iTunes version through 4.9.
The important thing is I will still have access to the files for classroom use (and I also just plain listened to them as well).

  • Sony phone with Quadband GSM and CDMA support

Can someone please recommend me a Sony phone comparable to Nokia 2730?
I'm looking for a Sony Ericsson phone with the following capability:
    Quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900
    WCDMA 900/2100 and GSM 850/900/1800/1900
    WCDMA 850/1900 and GSM 850/900/1800/1900
    Automatic switching between GSM bands
It doesn't have to be a high-end 3G or smart phone. A simple one that could support those operating bands would be great. Sony Ericcson's website is not much help at these things, emphasizing too much on content capability but not the raw technical specifications.
    Appreciate your suggestions. Thanks!

In fact the SE website does give precise information on GSM and UMTS frequencies under the Specifications section of each phone.

  • What are the difference between Model A1586 (GSM)* and Model A1524 (GSM)* as shown in the apple website?

    Hi,
I would like to ask about some information on iPhone 6Plus
Can i know whats the difference on these two models between Model A1586 (GSM)* and Model A1524 (GSM)* as shown in the Malaysia apple website?
If its different, then the product which consumer wanted to select, will it be all the model same price in Malaysia?
    Thank you.
    Your sincerely,
    Nick

"why should Apple manufacture the 2 models as different models?"
Apple doesn't manufacture two models with the same model number.  The "1429" iPhone can utilze either the GSM or CDMA protocol, depending upon the carrier's system.  In the US, Apple offers an unlocked "1428" iPhone 5, for use on GSM networks.  I live in Bangkok, and Apple - and Premium Resellers - offer the "1429" iPhone, which can be used on either GSM or CDMA networks.

You do see the devices heading on the left sidebar? If you don't see the sidebar, go to View>Show sidebar in the iTunes menu and then check to see if the device appears.
If that isn't the problem, go through the troubleshooting steps. It could be the Apple Mobile Device Service issue.

  • HT3939 Gsm and cdma inquiry in Middle east

which iPhone model support the both gsm and cdma  in middle east ??

Yemen is not listed as there are no LTE networks, as per this Apple Doc.
Also that Apple do not sell iPhones in Yemen, officially.
Moreover, CDMA iPhones are for a specific operator whereas GSM unlocked iPhones are available.
Please remember, Warranty and out-of-warranty services of iPhones are provided by Apple in the country of sale only.

  • WRT120N for gsm and pc

Hello, i've got the following problem/question. I have W-less router WRT120N and i'm using it for WLAN connection for one laptop. My internet provider has restricted the TTL and i can't share internet between more computers. But i'm wondering if i can set up it some way to use the Wireless net from my gsm (nokia). The gsm founds my WLAN but can't connect and thats may be because the TTL is restricted. I have connected the lan cable in one of the 1,2,3,4 ports, not in the Internet port and i think i'm using the router now just like a switch. Can I do something to set up the router so i can use the internet from my phone, too. I have nothing against if i have to disconnect the pc to use the internet from my phone. Just want to connect my phone to the net. I'm using an IP adress, i mean it's not set to Obtain an IP adress automatically. So ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Simply because they have their own profile when you first connected to them. So whenever you try to connect again, you won't have too much problem. If you have changed settings on your router, then you have to delete the wireless profile in your phone before connecting. Check your manual on how to do it.
Let's try some troubleshooting on the router.
Check this procedure. Don't setup PPPoE. Select Static IP in Internet Setup then key-in the IP address assigned to you. Here's the procedure. Under Basic Setup tab, go to Advanced Routing sub-tab, select Gateway instead of router.
Connect your laptop to the wireless ISP, post the IP address is assigned to your computer.
Same procedure, connect your laptop to the router, post the IP. Here's the procedure.
